There was once an angel, born a child of the sun and destined to live on earth among mortal like herself. Her soul, radiant and ever so bright; her heart, always loving and ever so warm; her eyes, full of understanding and ever so compassionate; her words, sweet but laced with her own sorrow that she tries to hide. Her features were those of a healer, but the burning of her soul showing the determination to withstand the darkness attempting to envelop her. No, she would fight until she had brought her light to all those in need.

But dearest sunchild, you mustn't forget yourself.

While shining for others, being the sun's perfect daughter, Lyanna would forget to shine for herself. To find the happy nook in life and make herself comfortable on it. Especially now, her mother disappeared and her being caught in a storm of evil greed and revenge, she would need to see the light to make her way to the shore unscathed. But it wasn't easy. Failed attempts that led to more hurt, insomnia, you name it. There were times in which the sunchild wanted to give up completely. But those were also the times that Lyanna steeled her breath and uttered words of courage to herself, running through the rain laughing and crying and tasting the salt and pure wetness on her tongue. Bittersweet. The eye of the storm, one could even call it.

The sunchild would make it.

It was the little things that symbolized her success, her steps forward, away from the abyss. First, going to Swansea with her best friend during the summer. Then attending the fall ball. Duelling Co-Captain. Quidditch Player. And finally, presenting herself at the IMOG event and joining a yurt with her best friend @Avery Gray and a few others. While their yurt's theme may have been respect, when it came down to it it was their friendship that would never crack. Unlike so many things in life, the sunchild could be certain that it wouldn't shatter. Aside from yurts, there was one event that Lyanna had chosen to attend.

Figure Skating seemed promising.

An art like so many others, it required precision and skill. However, instead of being like a duelling match in which one would get hurt by nature, this was graceful, elegant, refined to the rhythm of a classical piece that would captivate the audience. But not just the audience; for this was not for the crowd. No, Lyanna had enrolled for herself, because deep dow she knew that it would lift a certain weight off her chest.

The sunchild did not come to win, but to fly.

Tchaikovsky would begin to play, and Lyanna would glide onto the ice, gracefully and on tempo as a white swan, almost angel-like. Her routine was not a limitation, but a pedestal to her skill and elegance. The eloquence of the notes as they filled the air with their music would do its job, the sunchild's specially-chosen garments glistening in the cold winter air. As she would then attempt her quadruple flip, the swan would utter the word "Periculum" before touching the ground at the height of her jump. Doing it "perfectly" would not matter. Not anymore. For the sunchild was alive, and it felt amazing.

ROUND 1
A note to all players: The word count minimum is 200 words. The next deadline to post and submit strategy is 168 hours from the time this is posted. If you believe a mistake has been made in the calculations of this round, please reach out to me, Aulis Vorozheykin, ASAP so it can be addressed promptly. Rolls can be found in the roll-channel chat on the Discord. If you do not have Discord and wish to see the rolls, please owl me.
The Actions
The first round of the soloists' figure skating went swimmingly, albeit with a bittersweet open as Contraire fell out of her jump and her wand fizzled without the creation of snowflakes. From Connor came a dazzling display of a triple layback spin with a lovely snow shower, which was similarly kept up by Machavariani as she completed a triple axel. Wagner brought the crowd to their feet with the lone quad axel of the first round, continuing the trend of snowflake charms. The lone man, Stone, landed a double flip and the first Blue Sparks Charm of the day.

Hunter and Jones seemed to wow the judges with perfection, the former on her double axel (but not her admittedly still-successful Snowflake-Creating Spell) and the latter on her Nix Facitur, which put everyone else's to shame as she landed a triple axel as well. Argentum's triple axel and Red Sparks Charm were successful, too, as were the quad flip and similar charm from Oak, and the halfway point of the programs came here.

Still one more round to go. It's still anyone's game...

Winter was often viewed as simply merciless, the ice unforgiving, unwilling to soften the blow of a hastily-made error. However, in the face of such potential for failure, Livia found it far more important to focus on the importance of success. The movements of her arms felt like dance; the rush of the spell, like a well-performed duel. Even the carving motion of her skates in the ice reminded her of her beloved sculpting and warmed her soul, fighting away the frigid chill of the air.

She let her skate's blade skid across the ice, took a deep breath and leapt. Airborne. She held the breath as she brought her arms inwards, beginning to spin tightly. One. Two. Three. A half. Her foot landed, slid backwards; her hands went out to balance the end of the spin. Only then did she exhale, her breath puffing up in the frigid air. Snow fell down around her, glittering in the daylight.

Livia continued to skate alongside the music, holding her usual rigidity at arm's length. She closed her eyes, inhaled, exhaled. Opened them again. Spun. Skated. Spun again. Then, another cue hit in the music. Yes, there it was – time for another jump.

One skate left the ground, the other following suit. Fluid movements, perfectly in line with the rhythm of the music as Lyanna performed her quad flip through the air, red sparks flying from her wand while in the middle of the jump. Immaculate, just as she had hoped but not necessarily expected. After all, skating on the Great Lake back at Hogwarts whenever it froze over certainly didn't count as practicing like a professional. But if there was one thing the sunchild had learned about skating during that time, it was that what mattered most was pouring one's heart and soul into their routine and the music accompanying it, just as she had done today. And then comes balance, the core on landing a jump. The ice does not forgive, any misstep and the game is done.

There are the people who constantly worry about falling, not even daring to play the game or unconsciously failing due to the mere anxiety of such. But then, there are those who spread their wings and jump, knowing that their is both chance of flying and falling, but that they are not afraid to take a risk if it gives them a chance to live. For what is life about, if not taking chances?
Lyanna was the latter, now. Deep down, she knew she needed this. And if she fell, would it crack her? No, it would not. Because she was used to falling, she was already at the bottom of the pyramid of happiness, she had no where lower to drop to. And therefore, with the mindset of one who can only achieve what they already have or better, she felt as light as a feather: Nothing could stop her from feeling, living, the cold piercing air on her skin, breathing once and for all.

As the music continued, the sunchild's courage heightened at the prospect of having successfully performed her quad flip and red sparks charm. It was her best move, however, and attempting anything different would ruin the rhythm to the routine she had devised. There was one thing that she could do to spice things up and earn her one extra point, though. It was certainly daring, and would require some improvisation on the spot. Whether it would work was certainly a good question, but judging by Machavariani's previous spell, it would take a bit more than a well-performed jump to even come close to tying first place with her. The Bubble-Producing Charm. Lyanna's quick wits were able to think of the perfect moment to cast it, just as she would finish her jump and spin around once when landing, casting the spell around her like a cloak of water and soap. For a good outcome, she could only hope.

The music slowly gained momentum, and Emiline glided with the music. The ebbs and swells of the lyrics, the beat of the music guided her into each movement. The sound of her skates on the ice landed and glides with each piano key pressed. Listening carefully, she heard the part of the song leading up to the beat- drop and meaning the part of the song which would be perfect for either a jump or a spin. As the song built up to the beat drop, she gathered momentum and skated towards the centre of the rink. Leaning back, and spinning tightly, she performed her triple camel. Reaching her arms back in a graceful curve, she grabbed her right shoe and spun holding it up behind her head. Slowly, she then lowered it gently to be more arabesque level then gently placed it back down on the ice.

She glided out from the centre and pulled her wand from her navy blue, glittery sleeve. She smiled confidently at the small audience, then at her other competitors then cast her bubble charm. Speeding up her skating, she flew around the edge of rink, making sure her charm followed behind her like a ribbon. then she uncast her charm and gave a curtsey as her music slowly quietened and then trailed off. Signifying the end of her performance. .

Casey smirked when his head bowed down upon his landing, a sharp scrape of the blades of his ice skates accompanying the balance of his knees and feet. He knew he wouldn't come out first in this whole event thing, but he was feeling like the top dog. Something about having the rink to himself, swirling on the ice to a tune that was solely for him, with a routine and tricks he himself came up with and would perform himself gave him something that not even a "peace of mind" could label it.

The music picked up and so did he. Every steel-toed slap of the shoe to the rink matched the bass of the track playing overhead. He leaned on one side and on another, chancing jumps every time he felt the urge for them, and landing into spins when his skates hit the ice again. The breeze from his speed got caught in the curls of his hair and for the first time in what felt like forever ago, he smiled. Sincere and excitable.

The final verse of his song was underway and he most certainly wasn't going to drop the ball at the last minute. With all this feel-good energy in him, he knew he ought to see the whole thing to the very last note. He wanted to.

He turned himself back around and headed straight for the centre of the rink. Wand still in hand, he quickly calculated how he wanted his big bang to go. Of course, he knew what to do - never would the man just wing a routine on its first go - hence why every calculation was necessary when he pictured his final steps in his head.

He gripped his wand tightly and prepared for the climax. Once he hit the bullseye on the rink, he went for it.

But if it failed...

"You made me a shadowboxer, baby."
Time seemed to freeze as they spun midair, breath fighting against their ribcage and eyes squeezed shut. All of their senses seemed to attack them at once - the biting cold, the sound of their own pulse and the smell of sweat flooding their mind.

The pressure of their blades against the ice brought them back to reality as they landed with a sophisticated flourish. In the hazy corners of her eyes, Valour could see the crowd explode into applause, their blurred faces roaring from afar. She fought the smile on her face, focusing on her dark, emotive performance, but could not help their heartbeat hammering with adrenaline and burning pride. Every move so far had been executed to perfection.

Valour sped across the lake, sending a flurry of ice shavings into the air like a bout of fresh snow. Continuing to build momentum and velocity as the song approached its peak, Valour pointed their wand to the sky mid-spun and murmured, “Nix facitur.” Dancing and weaving amongst snowfall felt only right for the I.M.O.G. Whether she was destined to win, or to go home title-less, they knew that they would at least return to Hogwarts having settled their own personal score.

The end was fast approaching and Valour knew with their ferocious competition they would need to go big or go home. What better way to prove their worth than to take things to the next level? A quadruple axel was sure to secure them a spot on the podium. Closing their eyes and letting their focus settle on the wind against their cheeks, they elegantly built speed, outstretching their arms as they basked in the glory of performing on such a stage. They were a vision of thunder and lightning in their black and silver leotard, flashing before the audience’s eyes. Slowly, they pulled their arms tight into their chest and prepared to take another leap of faith.
"I wanna be ready for what you do."

Focus, focus, focus! Kaitlyn focused on her triple layback spin and snow spell. She beamed as her spin was successful, along with her spell. It always felt good to do something correctly! And even more so, when her spellwork agreed with her actions. She giggled quietly, breaking her spin, and completed a lap around the lake. Her blue eyes focused as she imagined how many points she was potentially racking up. Hopefully, she could be successful in this competition!

Yet, the young Slytherin student also knew that she needed to be careful … but not to shy away from a big bang. There was not that much additional time to second-guess herself. No, that would be rather devastating, after all! She needed something … anything … to wow the audience, and the judges! As such, her mind ran through her possible choices! There were only so many things she could try, after all, as a solo ice skater.

Kaitlyn prepared herself for a quad lutz jump. Her wand was still safely in her hand, gripping it with ease. What better way to show something wow-inducing than fireworks? Or, in this case … sparks! “Caerulimillious!” She shouted, pointing her wand up in the air, hoping to have a successful finish! Maybe the burst of blue sparks could help inch her toward victory … or, at least, a good respectable finish. This was her first time doing something like this, after all.

As soon as Samantha's skates hit the ice and she didn't feel herself wobble, she let a gentle smile grace her features. The snowflakes swirled around her as she continued skating, her soft blue dress fluttering around her legs as she danced around the rink. As her nervousness decreased, her movements felt more stable and her confidence rose. Probably bordering on overconfidence for a moment as she murmured the spell, "Multicorfors."

If the spell would succeed, her pale blue dress would shift to a luscious pink, mirroring the image she had in mind of the Sleeping Beauty play she saw with her grandmother. She had been eyeing the beautiful pink outfit one of the ballet dancers wore that entire evening. Samantha hoped her outfit mirrored the rich color she had in mind. Without bothering to look down at her dress, she skated forward, preparing herself for the double lutz she would perform.

Her nervousness spiked a split second before the jump. Maybe she had calculated this wrong. Maybe her ego had gotten the better of her. But there was no time left to rethink this. She had practiced meticulously, there was no backing down now. With another deep breath, she steadied herself and prepared to perform the double lutz.
