Vetra decided not to go for the Puck herself, but to distract her enemies with a Wollongong Shimmy, which would have worked beautifully for all five puck grabs if she hadn't tripped over herself the first few times as she was figuring out how to shimmy properly. Still, it worked enough to distract Macedo a couple of times, though she did manage to grab the puck twice and send it off to her teammate Montgomery, who only scored once against the brick wall in goal that was Gwild. On the other hand, though Ironwoods seemed to be scared of their own teammate Vetra at one point, they did manage to sink two goals behind Mozor, bringing the score to 2-1 Scaly Wings. The Puck
In the corner, Avaline and Gagné duelled with their high sticks as if they were swords. It was Avaline who got in the first hit, a stick to the face that caused Gagné to collapse on the ice. Referee and judge Aulis Vorozheykin blew his whistle, then carried Gagné off the ice. The Scaly Wings were in the lead, but down their defence. The Defence

Go, go, go!

Being a winger, apparently, meant more of passing to the fourth-year boy on their team rather than trying to score herself. Manu watched the puck sail into the opponents' net once, but into their own net two times, all throughout feeling rather distracted by the feinting moves of the dark-haired girl on the other team (@Ebony Vetra). Manu hadn't missed her wave at Aly, and the Brazilian herself had been rooming with Ebony for the last few nights whilst here at Koldovstoretz. Surely it would have come up, before, that Ebony and Aly knew each other - but, then again, Manu herself hadn't brought up that she knew the Ravenclaw seventh-year either. She resolved to ask her yurtmate about it once they were done being enemies.
The score was a resilient two to one with Manu's team down by a single goal, but the Castelobruxo duellist wasn't entirely unused to the idea of being the underdog. Many had told her, in the past, that her school was not known for duelling or offensive magic, and so why bother trying to win duelling competitions? Many had told her that she wasn't of pure magical blood, so why bother trying to do magic? And yet, she had come out on the other side each time stronger and all the better for it.
Manu nodded to her teammates, awaiting the next motion that would tell her what to do for the next play. Despite being down by one, they were also up by one person-wise. Hopefully, they would be able to salvage a gold medal yet.

| ___ | It was strange, playing a game so similar to Quidditch with teams of four only and nobody to cheer on the bench. The vast frozen lake felt oddly empty, though a packed scenario was not an image that Ebony was familiar with either. Perhaps that vastness rendered her somewhat bewildered, because upon the commencement of the match, the Scottish girl found herself a wee bit confused. She was ostensibly a winger, yes, but the brunette still hadn't quite fully grasped the scope of the supposed role. The discussed play was for her to perform a series of feints as a distraction. Ah, so a winger was a chaser of some form, was that it? Or perhaps a substitution for a seeker? Rather befuddling. One might argue that it would have bode well for her to have done a little preparation. She could have benefitted from a tad of studying or practicing of strategy, perhaps, but of course the beater -- or winger, now -- was not so forward-thinking. The feint, the Wronski Feint. Though -- there was no Snitch in this game, was there? So it bore closer resemblance to a Wollongong Shimmy, in which she had observed @Winnie Athanatos perform several times. The question was rather how to carry it out on the ice and in the clanky hockey skates. Struggling already to propel herself on the slippy surface, it was quite (very) challenging to do so. Ebony found herself threatening to topple over, the hockey stick the only thing keeping her upright, as she attempted to perform some sort of hullabaloo with her skate-cladded feet. The inept winger seemed to eventually get a hang of it, surprisingly, though she wasn't sure whether or not it really worked. The distraction seemed to have functioned slightly, given @Cassandra Ironwood's goals. Though @Harlan Montgomery was still able to get a shot in, the Ravenclaw did not miss her fellow eagle @Ari Gwild's phenomenally sturdy block. Truly clueless about the game (she had signed up for fun), Ebony initially wasn't sure how the defense was to function and how people were taken out, if they were at all. Her queries were soon answered, however, as she winced upon the hit in the face that @Quentin Gagné took, watching apprehensively as the Beauxbâtons boy was carried off the ice. It seemed hockey was as violent as Quidditch, if not more. |

✩ As the puck being dripped by the referee, Cash went for it. But at the same time, they did feel something off. But the green eyes pushed aside that feeling and took a deep breath to center themselves. Once Cash focused on the task at hand, they dribbled the puck with their hockey stick on the layer of the Lake's ice.
Cash smirked when they managed to score the first goal for their team, and when another scrimmaged to battle got the puck again, the sixth-year won. "Ha! In your face, Mozor," They said to the other team's goalie. Cash didn't have any beef with the boy, nor did they know the other boy that well.
But like most sport Cash was in, the competitiveness got the best of them. Every time Cash scored the goals, the distinctiveness of Ronnie's voice amongst the spectators could be heard. Cash wanted to rebuke their ever-so-sunshine and rainbow personified, but the Second-String Keeper of Slytherin needed to get their head in the game.
Cash skated on the ice for a brief second as something was going on between both of the Beauxbâtboys boys. The boys treated their hockey sticks like swords that they had to use during a duel. Cash then clenched their jaw when they saw Quentin Gagné was carried off the ice because the other Beauxbâtons boy had bonked the French kid in the face.
Cash winced at that. One round in, and the Scaly Wings had down one player. Cash and their other two teammate need to regroup so they come out as a victor in this game. A player for a player. Cash won't let Quentin's effort go in vain. The other team must pay for what they did to their team.
When Cash thought that the hockey game was not as brutal as Quidditch, boy, how wrong they were!✩

Despite Raphael's half-hearted attempt at "bonding" or "team spirit", the rest of his group did not seem very inclined to play along. Or communicate. At all. Shrugging, Raph got into position to wait for the starting signal. His position, at least, was largely independent of the others, so communication was really secondary. He'd do what he did best, as he'd figured out during his short career as a Quidditch player: Inflict extreme violence. And with Quentin on the other team, he knew that he should not hold back if he wanted to leave this rink on his own two feet. His fellow Beauxbatons player got an acknowledging thumbs up in return for the proposed bet. He did enjoy a good dessert every now and then - more so if it was someone else's treat.
Admittedly, Raph had been a bit surprised - or confused - when he'd heard that it was apparently allowed to whack your opponents with the hockey stick. It didn't seem like it should be, not in a Muggle game, but perhaps they had made some modifications to the rules to assimilate it to wizarding sports and their more violent tendencies.
Either way, he took off towards Quentin, both of them heading into confrontation with the same obvious intent: Take out the biggest threat on the field first. (A well-proven Quidditch strategy.) It was over very quickly; either thanks to luck or because his training paid off, Raphael managed to duck beneath Quentin's swing and return it with a well-placed one of his own. The blunt impact made him wince; somehow, this felt a lot more direct and personal than whacking a bludger at someone, or throwing them off their broom to crash to the ground, even if the result was the same. Maybe he should buy Quentin that canelé after all, in apology.
With Quentin removed from play, Raphael turned sharply to survey the rest of the game state, only to frown mildly at his team mates when he realised that they'd already given up the lead to their opponents. Ah. Well. They had only just started, and if Raphael had his way, by the end of the match the other team wouldn't have enough players left to put up a fight.

| —— | ![]() you better run, got the wand, already won. the parasite under your skin, the predator hiding within. ━━ summary, this thread is happening on FEBRUARY 17TH, 2026, in the EVENING with THE HOCKEY PLAYERS. / wc: 218. Well, shit. Harlan really thought he had that shot secured until that annoying bird blocked it in the nick of time. They had been down one point, but the other members of his teams were upper years and quite frankly, incredibly skaters. His own skates were rented, he hadn't the funds for proper ones but the pair he had been borrowing seemed to be working well enough. All he had to do was focus on his swing and how it worked the same as throwing a Quaffle into a goal. Granted, Harlan had never done that in an official game yet, but he'd done it tons during practice. " Great job, Raphael! " That was a nasty looking hit and at least turned the game a little more into their favor with it being 3 vs 4. Stick gliding directly above the ice as Harlan skated himself back into place for the next face-off. His gaze still had been on the Ravenclaws of the other team, wanting to remind them that Gryffindor was scary as hell both on the Pitch and on the Ice. Nothing was going to stop The Misfits from their win. " Let's get it. " Locked in and eyes on where the puck would be, Harlan was ready to pounce as soon as the next round would begin.

The Misfits vs. The Scaly Wings

With a drop of the puck, the game was on, and the rink devolved into the vaguely organized chaos of a sport that pitted two teams against one another. A battle for the object of hockey’s desire ensued, players dispersed from their starting positions, and strategies formulated in plotting minds were employed on the ice for the first time. On the part of the Misfits, said strategy essentially said “spread out and do your thing.” Harlan and Manu were the only pair working in tandem, with the latter attempting to feed the puck to the former before an attempt to score. Raphael, on the other hand, singled out the largest player on the opposing team and threw down the proverbial gauntlet without hesitation. The title of “defence” for his position seemed rather ironic considering the instantaneous aggression on display. Defence on Defence violence, as it were.
As for Marshal’s role, he had one focus alone: the puck. He harbored no concern for any distraction, shimmying or otherwise, employed by Ebony Vetra. His vision was tunneled on that small, black object that rebounded sporadically from stick, to skate, to wall. The first threat came when Cassandra Ironwoods broke away from the crowd, puck gliding before the Center at the guidance of their stick’s head. Marshal’s muscles tensed, knees bent behind their pads, arms poised to either side of him as he assumed a ready stance. The experience felt akin to when a bludger closed in on his broom in the sky, the noise of the crowd fading to nothing, vision tunneling on the object like he was a hawk and it a mouse. The only real difference was in the utility of the stick in his hand, and the nature of what he protected — a goal instead of his teammates — and he was to guard it, in his adrenaline-honed eyes, with his life.
Cassandra closed in. The stick guiding the puck pulled back in preparation to strike. Marshal anticipated the shot, yet this would not prove an opportunity to demonstrate his dexterity after all. At the last moment he registered a brief moment of hesitation from Cassandra, a momentary flick of the eyes that proved fatal for the shot’s trajectory. The goalie watched the puck sail wide, passing harmlessly by both him and the net he protected. Manu swooped in then, gaining control of the black disc and taking it out of threat range. This allowed Marshal to relax momentarily, though he still eyed ensuing events with a critical eye.
Manu passed the puck off to Harlan, who took the presented opening to send it toward the Scaly Wings’ goal for the first time. The attempt was thwarted by Ari Gwild, who appeared as a solid wall before the net.
As another scrum for the puck transpired thereafter, Marshal heard more than saw the blow landed by Raphael to the face of Quentin Gagné, followed by a collective “Oooooooh” from the crowd.
Glancing that way, the sixth year saw his teammate towering over the collapsed heap of Quentin, an instinctive wince creasing his features as the whistle was blown for the injury. Hockey was one of the more violent muggle sports in general, yet was typically tempered, at the very least, by policing the use of players’ sticks for direct attacks against opponents. This version had no such rules, and Raphael had clearly resolved to take full advantage. When the French student had insisted he was good, Marshal supposed he’d meant good at beating the puss out of people with a stick like a caveman. The Gryffindor was far from disappointed.
The match resumed, and he quickly found himself pitted against Ironwoods once more. This time the Center showed no hesitation, the shot sent on target, yet the goalie’s reflexes proved swift, the mitt on his left hand closing around the puck before it found the back of the net. Throwing a glance toward the thwarted shooter, Marshal shook his head in a light taunt, silently admonishing the audacity for assuming he could be scored on. Unfortunately, it would not be long before the boy regretted the gesture.
Shortly after, Manu would set Harlan up with a perfect pass and the Winger finally capitalized, his second shot attempt soaring past the Wall of Gwild to give them the first lead of the game.
Marshal raised his stick in celebration, though his exultation would not last, as Ironwoods subsequently snuck not one, but two lethal shots in quick succession past his own guard. The sixth year growled when Cassandra verbally returned his previous taunt, a shake of his head punctuated by the sharp smack of his stick against his helmet, as he attempted to force his head back into the game. The two shots had been nigh unstoppable, to the point that he questioned if the Slytherin had, in fact, played hockey to a significant degree in the past. But it mattered not. He was better than this, and the game was far from over.
”Try it again,” he snarled.

The Misfits vs. The Scaly Wings
The moment the puck was dropped, chaos erupted. Skate blades tore across the ice, bodies and sticks collided, cheers from the crowd rang in the distance. Adrenaline found its way into Ari's blood as he watched his teammates fight for the upper hand and waited for someone to come his way. While he was lucky enough to be in a position that did not require a ton of movement, he remained on guard should someone try to score to goal.
Sure enough, someone did head his way, a member of the opposing team he didn't catch the name of. A move was made to get the puck past him, but the advantage of fast reflexes paired with long arms and legs kept the puck from hitting the net and instead it hit his gloved hand. Off on the sidelines, he heard a voice yelling his name and cheering, and immediately he knew it was Elena. He couldn't help but smile behind his mask as his heart swelled with pride. He was going to give the rest of this game everything he had.
His team gained control of the puck once again, but weren't able to score, and soon it was back to being on the defense. The same person as before flew across the ice and hit the puck with just enough speed that Ari couldn't move fast enough to block it. While he was disappointed in himself for not being able to block it again, his hopes were not completely diminished. In fact, they were heightened by Ebony's ability to score two goals on the other side of the lake. There was still ample amount of time left in this game for the Scaly Wings to secure their victory.
That hope, however great and strong it appeared at first, was teetering on the edge of a cliff now. His eyes darted back and forth between Quentin and another opponent as they battled on the ice. Then, a hockey stick was raised, and Quentin went down hard, hard enough to not get back up. Ari watched them pause the game and carry him off the ice, thankful he was still alive but enraged that such a move was not penalized. Something would have to be done to keep the odds in their favor, and it was not going to be easy.

We have an elbower! Montgomery decided to put hisDebuff Fouls
It was Macedo versus Gwild for the puck, with Ironwoods waiting near Mozor in case they managed to set up a no-look passing kind of play. Unfortunately, Macedo's skills with stick-handling were just too strong, and she managed to grab the puck and score five entire times, bringing the Misfits out of their deficit and into a strong lead. With no goalie, it was easy to score. The Puck
Having had such success with high sticking the first bit of the game, Avaline decided to do it again, this time towards Gwild. Once again, the referee's whistle would need to sound, and Gwild was carried from the ice off to the medical area to join his teammate. The Defence
Perhaps in revenge for trying to elbow her earlier, Vetra skated towards Montgomery, seemingly with all the intent to blatch him. Referees whistled even as Montgomery skillfully evaded the boarding attempt, but Vetra would still need to hang out in the penalty box for the last few minutes of the game. Ironwoods would need to stand, the lone remaining person on the ice, to defend the Scaly Wings. A three-man advantage is just cruel, genuinely. The KOB Fouls
