While Evelynn had been successful in taking the thief down, the landing of her broom had reminded her of the chilled air, and ground. But she would not let that stop her, even as she struggled onward, the questions that she wished to receive answers for foremost on her mind. Though they would go unanswered as the thief made their escape, and she could not push the chill away any longer. Hopefully her partner would notice and get her warmed up quickly.
Giving up on his quest for chocolate, Vlad instead returned to the castle, deciding to follow the clue he had received. While his intentions were good (perhaps), the flames headed towards Evelynn were quite a shock, and if they landed would likely do some damage. Unfortunately, that was exactly what happened. The flames that had left Vlad’s wand, hit Evelynn, not wavering left or right, but a direct hit. Given Evelynn’s frozen state, she had not been able to dodge, and the flames caused more damage than would normally occur. They also would not go out without a battle, feeding on whatever they could of Evelynn’s surroundings and her clothing.
Marshal was concerned about his partner, focusing on her as he made his way to the ground. He was determined not to repeat the mistakes from earlier in the night. However, the thief made their escape. But he was exhausted and his partner in crime was struggling or at least, so it seemed. There would be no question about staying out any longer, trying to capture them again. Instead the safety and warmth of the castle beckoned them. Unfortunately, they would be delayed by Vlad’s arrival and subsequent fire-setting. Horrified, and angered by the actions of the interloper, Marshal sent the Full Body-Bind Curse Vlad’s way, their anger seeming to fuel the spell. Vlad would fall backward from the force of the spell hitting, but he would make no sound as he could not move his mouth. Would he be stuck there all night, in which case, he most definitely would be a frozen block of ice by the time someone discovered him or would he somehow be saved before the morning?

It didn't matter that he was doing things with good intentions, as he still got struck by a neanderthal who paralyzed him, locking his muscles up in his body like he were stone. The worst part of this was not the fact that he was rigid, it was the fact that he couldn't speak. How else were people supposed to hear and appreciate his ever so wonderful Southern drawl if he couldn't manage to get a damned syllable out? He just wanted to pull out some phrases and sound like more of an idiot than his author is writing him to be.
The best part of this whole... moment prior being paralyzed, at least, was he managed to get his spell to strike the target, that ever so stunning girl that had something going on. And if helping her made HIM the villain, the town fool, then fine, he was taking that label and he would wear it proudly. First things first, he needed to break free. No, not to the tune of Queen's song, but to break free from the paralysis that boy bound him with.
He mentally huffed angrily, visualized himself blowing sharp and intermittent jets of smoke out of his nostril like a dragon releasing the smoke from his belly full of flames.
This boy? Vlad was going to kill him.
He had to. There was no other outcome to this situation he would find himself in that wouldn't involve him giving the boy a black eye. He needed to regret this. He needed a reminder NOT to mess with Vladislav ever again. Never again would one attack him for helping someone. He felt his core burn, the back of his head throb a bit from falling backwards, and yet still all he wanted was revenge.
His hands laid awkwardly, one draped across his forehead clutching the wand emitting an odd yet slightly colder temperature (thestral tail hair core) over him. (Aiko I can remove this if you don't want me to mention it! I don't mind!) His other hand, behind his back. It was an odd fall, but alas, it wasn't like he could move his arms around so he could do something like lay his arms down by his side or cross both his arms over his chest like he were a vampire sleeping in a coffin.

Emotion. Such an attractive thing. A lovely, appalling, twisted thing that ground reason to dust. None were immune to its whiles of seduction. Kings, religious leaders, even biblical figures; all fell prey to the tantalizing taste of blood pumped directly from the place of sentiment’s birth. The taste of mirth, of anguish, or lust. The taste of hatred.
Then why not him?
Emotion. That soothing, corrosive substance that rotted the mind of its wielder beyond recognition. His mother, his father, even his sister. Fawn. Had she not cried on her death bed? Consumed by agony and fear, he’d seen her crumble for the alluring taste.
So why not him?
Emotion. It owned his soul. It dangled his limbs from strings, driving them forward, forcing compliance to the whims that filled his veins like blood. He had suffered, she had suffered; they had all suffered. Enough to dissuade further, irrational attack against one on hands and knees, surely? No.
Perhaps this wriggling worm on the ground had been coerced by the same taste as so many before.
If so, could he be held accountable?
Hatred. It hungered for something, anything — anyone — to blame. And tonight, it had found its target. That target now lie, unmoving, in a pool of his own misery, and the puppeteer bid its plaything to walk his way.
In that moment, Marshal was naught but a shell, his body manipulated by feelings his mind could not comprehend. Even the bloodcurdling screams from behind would not cut him from his bonds, his arm yanked forward once more, wand tip bound for he who languished on the ground.
Perhaps his strings could be severed, and the taste of blood washed from his mouth. But until then, lovely, appalling, twisted emotion had staked its claim.
Set the worm aflame, like it did to the vulnerable. Then end it.

| xx | 𝔖he hadn't seen @Vladislav Liam Gunther's shadowed arrival, had taken no notice of the way the teen's attention lingered not on the escaping thief up in the air but rather on Marshal and herself. And she certainly hadn't been able to make out the quietly uttered incantation allegedly invoked with some questionable intent to rectify whatever happened to ail the kneeling lioness by means of fire. The boy had even acknowledged to himself that if his spell landed, she would be set aflame, that the combustion of a living being had been his goal. How anyone could possibly think this would result in anything other than excruciating, torturous pain and the subsequent medical emergency is beyond this writer. Who could say exactly what it was he thought he had learned at the most prodigious school of Koldovstoretz, but it certainly wasn't this. Please, someone, this child needs help of the professional variety. The only indication that something was transpiring was when Marshal, upon whom her defeated gaze had been fixed, looked up to peer at something off to her side and past her, raw emotion tearing across his countenance. Brows furrowed with confusion, Evelynn's head swiveled slowly in the direction of his gaze, entirely unprepared for the sight that would greet her. Small at first, but growing swiftly in both size and intensity, flames charged head-on towards her. She didn't have time to notice how they blocked the frame of their summoner, nor how the brilliance of their light seemed to absorb the ambient moonlight from their snowy surroundings, casting the night into dreadful shadow. There wasn't even time to question the how of their sudden appearance, or more importantly the why. The only thing that mattered was that they existed, and they were coming for her. Arms flew up to shield her face and cover her head as best as was possible, body sluggishly curling in on itself even while legs extended with every bit of strength and reflex available to her in that moment in a desperate effort to launch herself out of harm's path. It wasn't enough. The numbing cold had left her clumsy and uncoordinated. Boots slipped on the slick packed snow. Her body landed heavily upon the ground. The flames engulfed her. And then the world went white. The post continues in the reducio | trigger warning: burning / pain | this has been toned down a lot in order to fit within site rating, but still may be a difficult read for some users Reducio Agony. There was no other way to describe the situation as tortuous pain exploded across her body. Days later, she might think back how when one's hands were cold from time in the snow, even a lukewarm running tap felt as though it were burning flesh. Or how intense the burn of accidentally touching the rim of a baking sheet freshly pulled from the oven. Even in dueling, she had withstood the singing pain of errant sparks from a Cracker Jinx, or an Incendio catching flame to her robes. But in every such case, the duration was brief (often less than a second), contained, or insulated by her careful choice of attire going into a situation anticipating the possibility of encountering flames. This. This was something else entirely. The pain was instantaneous and all-encompassing. There could be no withdrawing from the source of painful stimulus when it clung to her, eating at clothing and flesh, alike. As acutely aware as she was of what was happening, neither could thoughts seem to form. Smoke clouded her vision. The roar of flame and crackling of cloth filled her ears. The stench of burning flesh and hair singed her nostrils. Tears tried to roll from her eyes only to dissipate into steam before touching her cheeks. And somewhere, someone screamed, a high blood-curdling sound that echoed across the grounds. It was only after several seconds that it somehow broke through to her that she was the one screaming, though she wasn't conscious of doing so. It lasted only a short while, yet it may have felt like an eon to some who listened on. Still, eventually the heat of the flames and the damage they had imparted on flesh and sinew would cause muscles strictures and spasms, choking off her voice, making movement come in jerks and jolts. In the wake of nauseating agony, rational thought had no place. There was nothing she could do. Nothing she could say. Incantations had been impossible while chilled, and now the concept of casting didn't even occur to her even if she could command her cords to speak at all. Lowered to a state of bare impulse, only instinct ruled her actions. Back arched, hips bucked, arms continued to guard her face as best as they could, her frame thrashing in the snow in a desperate and panicked attempt to put out the fire lest it consume her entirely.

The North American Cougar (P. concolor couguar) is a large wildcat native to North America. While they generally sport tawny-beige fur, Miss Decipio's animagus form has light auburn fur with sandy-grey underbelly, chest and facial markings. Black-brown fur marks her ears, face and tail (as pictured). At 53 kg and 2.24 m from nose to tail tip in length, she measures slightly above average for a female specimen of this subspecies. Although puma eyes commonly range from brown to golden, her animagus mirrors the grey irises of her natural human form.

Focused and determined, Vlad put all his focus on escaping the body-bind curse that had been cast on him. He was determined to have his retribution. Surprisingly he could feel some movement in the arm behind his back. Within moments he was somehow able to begin wriggling around. Perhaps the spell hadn’t been as strong as Marshal had thought, or perhaps the sheer determination meant he was able to free himself. Whatever it was, Vlad was free.
While all this was going on, Marshal was not in control of his emotions, the ones that his mind didn’t understand. He aimed to make the imposing figure experience the same damage that had been visited on his partner. The same pain. The emotions fuelling the spell were strong, and it should come as no surprise that it hit it’s intended target, even though Vlad had become unfrozen. The flames would cause pain to Vlad. Would that be enough for both, a spell landed for each or would the two keep going?
Evelynn was unable to even attempt to cast any spells at her attacker. Or even something to put the flames themselves out. The pain was horrid, and she could only focus on attempting to use the snow around her to put the flames out. Unfortunately, the flames seemed determined to continue burning, even as her attacker experienced the same thing.

Hah. He managed to free himself from the horrid cage of paralysis that the boy had trapped him in. Yet, he couldn't find himself being freed from the incoming incinerating flame that was to set his body on fire. He may not been that girl on fire, but he most certainly was getting angrier by the minute. How could that bloody, incompetent, fool decide that punishing Vlad was the best course of action. He huffed, howled in excruciating pain from the ongoing flames and it was almost as if his eyes went dark.
Vladislav lunged towards Marshal, throwing his wand down to the ground all the while, hoping to have been able to create enough of a force to knock him down, but even if he didn't, he had drew back his arms, his breath painfully close to Marshal's. He felt feral and was done. Done with this fool. (the knocking down part, the fighting part was from me picturing Jack Will fighting in Wonder, so I guess it's a reference lol)
"Do you know what burning flesh smells like up close? I do now." His southern accent hitting the twang every chance it could, pure fury and distaste in his soul lingering with a nasty taste of venom drenching his vocal cords.
He had hoped that Marshal barely had time to process what was said, because Vlad had already brought out his fist.
Vlad wasn't punching with the strength of someone who knew how to fight, as he didn't, but he was desperate, recklessly swinging as if he had nothing left to lose. He kept swinging as the knuckles cracked through the air, as wild and as uncoordinated as it was. It was pure rage, but not technique. Vlad really did not care if the blows landed, nor did he care if they barely hurt. All he wanted was Marshal to feel the intent behind the attempt.
Vlad hissed through clenched teeth, flaming hot tears rolling down his cheeks as his brows remained furrowed, and he uttered, "Set me on fire again. I want to see what you look like when you realize I don't stop." He kept swinging. Pissed.
He couldn't even turn towards the girl he tried helping in the first place. He couldn't, not if he was going to burn. And he didn't have plans on extinguishing the pain. Marshal needed to feel hurt the same way he did. He needed to learn how to cry.

───────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Somehow, Frederick Buckley, the mischievous little Gryffindor boy, with the help of his friends Avery and Rosaline, managed to capture several of the strange toadstools and bulbs that bordered the Great Lake. Did he have some hidden talent with magical plants without even knowing it? The fact was that they had secured another clue, one that contained the words fly and castle. “I think we have to fly to the castle if we want to find this thief,” he thought out loud, sharing the idea bubbling in his mind. “I know where we can get brooms. Let’s go!”
Once again, he ran and slipped through the dark Hogwarts grounds, lit only by the moon and stars, cutting through the cold night air with a stubborn determination to solve the mystery of the House Cup. As he ran, now slightly tired, Frederick wondered where the other Gryffindor students he had seen leaving the common room had gone, all chasing the same objective. What had happened to them? A thread of worry and fear ran through him again, making him glance from side to side as he moved, ensuring that Rosaline and Avery were keeping up. He felt grateful to have them nearby and pressed forward with renewed resolve as they approached the school’s broom shed.
When he arrived, Frederick noticed that only a few brooms remained, which suggested they might be on the right track. He counted at least three decent ones and grabbed one for himself, nodding toward the girls before preparing to take off. From above, he quickly spotted a figure near the castle behaving suspiciously. It could only be the thief.
What he hadn’t expected was that, in pursuit, he would fly past three students who were now dueling each other. Frederick immediately slowed down, unsure of what he should do, interfere in the fight or continue chasing the thief. Forcing himself to decide quickly, he angled his broom toward the ground, diving diagonally, then yanked the handle upward with both hands, skimming just a few inches above the other students’ heads. “Hey! What are you doing? There’s a Cup thief on the loose!” he shouted as he flew past, before recalculating his route and steering back toward the mysterious culprit.
What he didn’t know, however, was that two of those students had arrived at the shed much earlier and had already recovered the real House Cup with ease. In his immaturity, Frederick failed to read the situation correctly and continued his pursuit, drawing closer and closer to the supposed thief. Flying was something he was used to, being a member of the House Quidditch team and all, but flying and casting spells at the same time would be a first. Fred maneuvered both wand and broom, holding the former firmly in his right hand for better aim, and pointing it toward the shadowy figure, he shouted, “Give back our Cup!”, he shouted into the night, his voice cutting through the cold air. And then, without allowing himself a second thought, Frederick said the incantation, “Tarantallegra!”.

Date : Early December, 2025 Color code : Written | Thought | Said The clue her group had just obtained was filled with a challenge, hinting that the thief was waiting for them for a chase game in the sky. "Here we are..." Sere stopped when they reached the Hogwarts Grounds. The spot looked deserted. She was more afraid of getting caught by the patrolling Groundskeeper than whatever kind of chasing game the thief was about to play.
"If the thief says they want to fly and use this castle as a playground, does that mean we have to play along with them? Or what?" She asked, leading Kim and Pyce closer to where Flying class usually took place. "If they are in the air, then we will need our bro---" Sere's words trailed off, her cautious steps turned into a sprint as she discovered the broom shed had been ransacked.
"Did they hide our trophy here?"
Sere checked the inside of the broom shed and found nothing but a thick layer of dust. "Nothing here resembles a House Cup. Do you guys find anything?"
Just as Sere finished her question, out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone dart into the night sky. "That's the thief!" She reflexively grabbed one of the scattered school brooms and mounted it. "Come on! We have to chase them!" She had no choice but to accept the thief's game.
For the first time outside of Flying class, she zoomed with a broom in the sky; at midnight, past curfew, ignoring every safe speed limit the professor had ever told her.
Breaking as much rules as possible.

| xx | 𝔚hy? Why wouldn't it end. No matter how much she rolled, the mind-numbing, encompassing pain only seemed to continued, flames gradually spreading as they consumed fiber and flesh. Perhaps her efforts weren't nearly as coordinated as she had thought. Not that she was really capable of much thought at all given the state she was in. In this moment, it wasn't conscious thought so much as instinct that drove her movement. Survival had always been her driving force. In many ways, it was what had originally attracted her to seeking completion of an animagus ritual--the promise of acquiring skills and aptitudes in the form of an animal of which she wasn't capable as a mere human. And once she had accomplished that feat, her reliance upon that form had been heavy.
One of the greatest unexpected perks had been the way everything--world, thought, pain, emotion--seemed to dull. It wasn't that animagi became mindless beasts within their transformation. On the contrary, they retained all rational capacity and memory of their experiences in their transformations. But it was... muted... in a way. Emotions numbed. Needs simplified. In a way, attention and focus seemed to narrow. While not exactly healthy, Evelynn had used these particular features to escape mental anguish during periods of emotional lows. Romps through the Forbidden Forest as a mountain lion had become a means of escaping torment; shredding trees served to siphon off excess anger while flushing her system with positive hormones. Plus, mountain lions couldn't cry. Not that she was crying now. The heat simply wouldn't allow it. But she was in anguish; and habits, once built, were hard to break. Escape. That's what her animagus form, at its core, meant for her. From danger, from her troubles, from herself. And in this moment, from pain. As the flames continued to lick her form, silhouetting her in horrific fashion against the snow, she did what she always did when the demands of the moment eclipsed her ability to self-regulate. She transformed. Limbs thickened. Her body shifted. What was left of her clothing absorbed into patchy sprouting fur. The blood-curdling scream that echoed across the grounds shifted, though perhaps not as much as on might have expected, as it took on the eerily human wailing keen of a screaming cougar. And then she leapt, powerful legs propelling her meters from her position. Long strides carried her bounding form across the snow, fire flagging in her wake, fanned by the swiftly passing air. A cougar's face, contorted with fury and fear, managed to stay ahead of the flames, bared fangs reflecting their hue. Unfortunately for Evelynn, it was only emotional pain that really numbed in this form, not physical. But here, she was not helpless. And a pained predator without perceived routes of escape was a dangerous one. What capacity of thought she did possess was occupied by a singular objection: destroy the source of the fire, and perhaps they would cease. It didn't matter that @Vladislav Liam Gunther was younger than her. It didn't register that the individual had intentionally released his wand. It didn't even occur to her that the he was attempting to assault Marshal despite being possibly even less physically capable than herself. There was no notice of the young @Frederick Buckley as he flew in close to the tussling boys; nor of @Sere Nade a little way's off in the distance near the broom shed where she had just arrived on scene, as yet unaware of the escalating dangers nearby. The only thing that could have given her pause was the fact that Vladislav, too, seemed to have been set aflame. In this moment, however, even that only served to reaffirm the connection of this person to her own firey peril. Six meters out, she leapt, maw agape with flashing fangs and paws outstretched with brandished claws. There was no nuance in her charge. No human notion of restraint and intricacy of attack. Inhaled smoke made breathing labored. Vibrancy of the flames set every nerve-ending alight. The reality of a gradually encroaching loss of life if her current situation did not improve opened the flood-gate of panicked adrenaline-fueled action while consciousness yet remained. The mountain lion was in the driver's seat. Evelynn was merely a passenger. If she managed to make contact, she was going straight for where the boy's shoulder met his neck.

Done with the wands, perhaps the fire even causing him to forget about it, Vlad began to swing. But there was no weight behind the swings, or even any coordination to the punches. He swung through the air, not caring if anything landed, and the flames continued to crackle. While it was a very cool picture, unfortunately Vlad’s punches were more intimidating than damaging. He was constantly swinging wide, missing his target as if it was an Olympic sport.
Slowing down as he reached the scene where the older students were, Frederick was uncertain of what he should do, but quickly chose to grab a broom, and be on his way to catch the thief that was flying above. Familiar with flight, it was the spellcasting in flight that would cause him difficulty. He successfully was able to cast the Tarantallegra he intended to, however it went wide, as the thief saw it coming and dodged quickly out of the way. Frederick would have to try again.
Sere was not to be left behind, quickly grabbing a broom once she figured out the situation and gave chase. She was quite the daredevil, only having attended flying class, and breaking every rule that she had been taught. Similar to Frederick, she was able to summon the focus even with the new view to cast Immobulus successfully. But again, just like Frederick, the spell went wide. The thief seemed to have been extra motivated not to be caught once more, potentially afraid of what would happen if the ruse was detected.
Determined to escape the flames that still remained, Evelynn transformed into her cougar shape. With that, the remaining flames that had surrounded her were extinguished. Her cougar form was determined to act, and that act was to attempt to attack Vlad, the cause of her pain. Evelynn successfully managed to bite down on the flesh of Vlad, her teeth sinking in. She did damage, but not the full damage that she could have. Perhaps it was residual damage from the flames or perhaps she was slightly discombobulated from her transformation. Whatever it was, the cougar’s teeth were still dangerous, and Vlad would be left with some damage. The flames continued to burn on Vlad, causing him further damage.

The next mod post for this thread, Stolen Rewards, Encounters at the Edge of the Forest and Hop, Hop, Hop Away will be posted on March 6th, 2026. Even though Evelynn and Marshal have successfully gained a House Cup (and currently unbeknownst to them, the correct one), the thief is determined to cause more mischief. Mod posts will continue until March 31st.
