Third Post - Gryffindor Adventure
The Gryffindor students may find themselves a bit bruised and bandaged after their encounter with the Wampus, but each and every one eventually managed to grab one of the pieces of parchment that would lead them to the next location. The clue itself had been vague enough that it wasn’t clear what exactly they were looking for or if they would be lucky enough to spot a rather suspicious looking figure with the House Cup.
They crept carefully through the grounds, making their way through the dark night to the Great Lake where the little light that did appear occasionally would reflect off the rippled surface. Otherwise, it presented a threatening image, one of a mirror ready to reach out and grab any victim that came too close. But the Gryffindors could not be deterred.
It would become clear as soon as they found their way to the Great Lake that their adventure would not be coming to an end anytime soon. Leaping Toadstools and Bouncing Bulbs had been released near the Great Lake and were wreaking havoc as they bounced around. It seemed that the thief was not unfamiliar with stealing as Professor Toussaint-Fleischer would discover her stores were quite a bit lower for the two plants.
The Leaping Toadstools and Bouncing Bulbs seemed to convey a sense of joy, even though there was no way to tell if they even felt anything as they randomly careened around. But it would become even clearer that they had no sense of space or ability to avoid objects in their path as a few students cried out as they were hit by one or the other if the students weren’t quick enough to evade. More than one would be adding to their bruise count gained from the Wampus.
As the plants leaped, flashes of color could be seen on their underside, silver and gold shimmering in the occasional beam of moonlight, but flashes of other colors like green, red, blue, and yellow would be visible if a little harder to see in the dark night. It seemed helpless to know which was which or which would be a clue to the thief’s identity unless they managed to randomly grab the correct colors.
A rather intrepid student, one who decided since there were no clues, they would just get started, began to collect several of the Toadstools and Bulbs, struggling to keep the ones they caught from bouncing out of their arms. If they had known, they could have brought a basket or pot, something with a lid to make the task easier, but that would be too simple. The thief wanted to cause mischief, and maybe even harm for those who tried to follow their clues. It wasn’t until the student grabbed a mixture of Toadstools and Bulbs that had three golden marks that a flash of crimson smoke enveloped them.
Coughing from the student was heard, but more importantly a whispering voice. The actual words were too muffled for anyone nearby to hear, but it was clear that the student inside the cloud heard every word as once the voice stopped speaking, and with it the cloud dissipated, the student in question took off. They were headed to parts unknown for the next clue and were not waiting around to confer with their fellow students.
Permission given to mention the Leaping Toadstools and Bouncing Bulbs were stolen from Professor Sarai Toussaint-Fleischer.
Rolls
1st Roll: In your post, indicate if you are nominating one person from your group to do their best to collect the bouncing plants, or if there will be several. If only one person is going, they will receive a boost of +2 accuracy for each member in their group. Users who found the item using the Camo Cloak last round can either consume the mushroom they found for +5 accuracy or hold onto it for the next challenge. They should indicate this in their post.
To collect Mushrooms, there will be three rolls:1. Accuracy vs. Evasion Role: If the accuracy roll is higher than the evasion roll ( Base Evasion: 12 (Leaping Toadstools) or 10 (Bouncing Bulbs)), the individual or group member has successfully captured some Leaping Toadstools or Bouncing Bulbs. If the accuracy roll is lower, than they have not succeeded.
2. A d10 roll will be rolled to indicate how many have been collected if the previous roll was successful
3. For each Toadstool or Bulb captured, a d6 dice will be rolled to determine what colors have been collected.
1: Red
2: Blue
3: Yellow
4: Green
5: Silver
6: Gold
If a silver toadstool or bulb has been captured, the individual will gain an additional toadstool or bulb in their count. So, if you captured 3 red toadstools, 1 gold bulb and 1 silver bulb, then you would receive an extra bulb and another d6 dice would be rolled to determine which color it has.
Students will need to continue collecting Leaping Toadstools and Bouncing Bulbs until they have collected 3 gold-marked plants. They can be collected over multiple posts.

The relief on Frederick’s face when he saw his friends returning safely from the forest was unmistakable. The clue they had found, however, didn’t seem to reveal anything clearly. The only thing he truly understood was that they needed to keep searching for more hints, the next one supposedly somewhere near the Great Lake. “You’re alright, yeah? Okay, let’s keep going.” He took the lead after making sure everything was fine with his small group of adventurers.
As they walked, Fred couldn’t help but feel a chill run down his spine. It was something between adrenaline and fear. He had no idea what awaited them ahead, it was late, and they were getting farther and farther from the castle. Unusually silent for Frederick, he chose to keep quiet, perhaps thinking that saying nothing would make him appear more confident than speaking and revealing his concerns. When they reached the lake’s edge, the vast black surface reflecting the night sky intimidated him slightly, but they had come this far. It wasn’t time to turn back.
Before he could even form a question, Fred noticed sudden movements along the shoreline and heard strange noises. “What on earth is that?” he muttered, squinting to see better and understand what they were facing. Right ahead of them, Leaping Toadstools and Bouncing Bulbs were bouncing wildly, flashing bursts of colored light. He had to quickly dodge one that veered off course, narrowly avoiding being struck. Still clutching his wand, he exchanged a glance with Avery and Rosaline. “What do you think we’re supposed to do? Do we have to catch them to move on?”
Determined, even without a clear strategy, Frederick decided to act. He often followed the same pattern - act first, think later - and this time was no different. “I’ll try to grab as many as I can! Then we’ll figure out if the colors mean something.” he said as he charged toward the Leaping Toadstools and Bouncing Bulbs, tucking his wand away so he could use both hands. “Come here, let me catch you!” Completely focused on the task, his earlier worries faded away. Right now, all Fred wanted was to catch them all.

✽The notes both Avery and Rosa had found in the forest spoke volumes. Though it was confusing, Avery knew enough about Hogwarts to have a slight idea about where they would be off to next. The only thing that perplexed her was the mushroom. What was it for? What did it do?
There was no time to dwell on that. Now it was time to focus and get to their next checkpoint before it was too late. Before the house cup was lost for good. She would not accept that.
It was a short walk to the great lake, but it was the noises that got Avery. Those weren't the sounds of normal things. No. That was the sound of something magical. But what?
Then Avery saw it. Magical mushrooms. Her grandfather would have known their name, but Avery could not come up with the name or where she had seen them before. "They're. . . magical mushrooms." She said thoughtfully. Deep in her thoughts about what to do next.
"Good idea. The colors must mean something. I'll eat this mushroom here that we already have and see what happens. Maybe it can help us?" Avery commented, though she held back her next remark. What if the mushroom didn't help? What if it ruined their chances?

Frederick was not letting fear hold him back. They had made it this far, even if they had had a rough go of getting out of the castle at first. But the Wampus had been successful, and they were moving on. The Great Lake and its rather rambunctious guests would serve to distract him, making him focus on only the task ahead as he talked to the plants. Did they understand English? Would they even care to listen if they did? At least this time it seemed they did. A swarm almost fully surrounded Frederick, as if curious about the new being in their mix. It seemed like they were almost jumping into his arms. Whatever it was, Frederick was able to quickly discern that he only had 2 of the 3 gold mushrooms that they needed to find out where the thief was. Hopefully his friends would have good enough luck to catch a third.
Avery was more thoughtful in her approach, unlike Frederick who had jumped in wholeheartedly. But that didn’t stop her from doing the same and approaching the leaping plants once she had fully absorbed the scene. Eating the mushrooms though would not end in the outcome they wanted, but first Avery would have to catch at least one to figure that out. Unfortunately, Frederick’s attraction of the mushrooms did not seem to be universal, but the bouncing bulbs certainly seemed to be less cautious around Avery. She was able to catch quite a few bulbs, and she was able to capture all 3 that they needed, the red cloud enveloping her and giving the clue to the three members of the group.
Disbelief was Rosaline’s first reaction to the rather chaotic scene in front of them. It wasn’t long before she too did her best to catch the mushrooms, cheering her friends on as she did so in hopes they could solve the puzzle. Much like Avery, Rosaline did not have the magnetism that Frederick had to draw the plants in. Instead, she had to seek them out, and honestly that was difficult when they could just leap over your head, or arm. Rosaline too suffered from an unintended hit or two from the bouncing plants. But instead of the arm, she took one to the leg. Unfortunately, that seemed to distract her from the goal, and now the group still needed 1 gold-bottomed mushroom.
