Quidditch Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor - Winter 2026

Oonagh made her way to the pitch, oozing confidence and mild annoyance, at once more being stuck with the bench out of all places. Her broom was lazily slung across her shoulders and a simple backpack containing snacks were dumped on the ground before her feet as she sat down.

She only half listened to Pax, deeming the act of picking at her nails much more interesting. They would crush the competition anyway and if not she would just blame the first string of players for not having done their job.

She spared a glance at her fellow benched players and grinned broadly when she spotted a familiar face. "Oi, Al!" she greeted her friendly prank rival from the Headliner. "Funny tae see ye here, thought ye micht be tae busy makin' bold claims in yer articles!" There was a familiar, yet chaotic playfulness to her words as she scooted over to sit next to him on the bench.

The day marked his first official game since making the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and Alphonse was nothing short of a wrack of nerves.

It had taken some time since being crucio’d for the Caribbean-bred boy to slowly come out of his shell once more, and plenty of therapy to withhold him from giving up on life altogether. With his horticulturist mother now newly departed from the walls of Hogwarts, things were growing harder once more and his carefully-crafted facade worked overtime to prevent himself from falling apart. His deep-seated nervousness weighed heavily upon the boisterous bulwark, but his ego was front and center with a lazy, charismatic grin at the sight of Oonagh.

”Hey, you,” Alphonse greeted naturally, moving his Silver Arrow so she could slide beside him, ”Someone told me I should go find a disaster to report on. You just happened to be the first one I saw.”

He nudged her with his shoulder, flashing a passive smile to dispel any malice from his playful retort.

The Bench

Sitting on the bench would not make the second string players' support of their teams any less impactful. With the exception of Avery and Frederick, who leaned over and spoke in hushed tones about ideas for future plays, it seemed everyone had the idea of yelling out to the skies above. Most did this in a positive, kind, optimistic way – Aly and Jorah would be privy to cheers from Mikey, Damien and Ophelia, although Aston' attempt didn't quite reach their ears. However, the Gryffindors Oonagh and Alphonse would seek to counter this by booing to their hearts' content.

Debuff Fouls

These days, it seemed no one could have a game of Quidditch without elbows flying in odd places. This trend would hold true for the morning's game, with Avis's elbows dashing out and making contact with Aodhan. For their part, the referee had gotten distracted, with some spectators in the stands having begun a particularly hilarious, albeit innocuous, chant.

The Quaffle

Weren't Quidditch players supposed to actually fight over the Quaffle? While Ravenclaw had dedicated two of their players to Quaffle tactics – Winnie for the offence and Charlie for the defence – the Gryffindors had done no such thing. In fact, they had all but ignored it, instead... flying around?

'What's this? Gryffindor are completely ignoring the Quaffle. Don't they want points...?'

Winnie had no trouble acquiring the Quaffle from the centre of the pitch, and that held true when she flew across the pitch and scored. There were no fumbles, and also no exceptionally amazing scores, but dings echoed across the pitch as she scored. 'Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty points to Ravenclaw. Very clean.'

The Snitch

The Seekers from both teams flew about with one objective: to find the elusive golden orb that so often could grant victory. Poor Aodhan, having had elbows thrust into his ribs, was quite disoriented and did not have the best time of it. Aly, however, had no issue immediately catching a glimpse of the Snitch.

The Beaters

Whoever had started the notion that Beaters were all brawn, no brains, was just quite incorrect. How else could one explain the fact that as Jorah prepared to launch a strike at Pax, Ethan would fly into his way and knock the bludger right back at him!? 'WHOA! What an impressive move from Smith! He shoots, and he... does not score, as Moussa gets out of the way. Thrilling!'

Pax had a similar idea... well, not to intercept the bludger, but to attack Jorah! It seemed the Gryffindors had a common enemy. 'Ooooooooh, Zhang is at it too! And they shoot! And THEY SCORE! Oh, goodness. That doesn't look so good. OH, BUT WAIT! IT'S STILL GOING! Is that... Vetra?? In front of Salinger? Juicy! And... smack. And she's STILL HANGING ON! Wow, that was wild!'

There was a pause. 'Oh, yes, we need a medic for Moussa, pronto, and Beckett is now on the pitch.'

KOB Fouls

Maybe you also can't have a proper game of Quidditch without some dirty, dirty cheaters. The Gryffindors who were flying about? They were totally inconspicuously beelining for Winnie. Seasoned Quidditch players might recognise the play as a Parkin's Pincer, which usually spelled trouble for the defending player. But something just... fizzled out. Maybe Charlie looked at Harlan and spooked him. 'Montgomery, why are you just floating there? Isn't Quidditch about flying?'

The referee was not the sharpest when it came to the Quidditch playbook, though, and was unable to associate the interesting shape of the play with a foul. 'In fact... Gryffindor, really, what's going on? I don't get it.'

It wasn't long before Aly caught the golden glimpse of something hovering nearby, a small winged ball that looked all too familiar. A grin spread over her face, and only widened when she realised that a well-placed and as-yet-unnoticed foul by one of her Chasers had aided in distracting the Gryffindor Seeker away from seeing the Snitch. She managed to fly by @Avis Greymond and offer her a sneaky, sly fist bump. "Well done, kid," she stage-whispered before nosediving her broom away lest they be caught celebrating a successful cheat by the keen-eyed referee.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't be a first round for the Ravenclaws without a bit of frustration; for the second match in a row, @Jorah Moussa was down for the count within the first few seconds of playing. Aly made an unintelligible noise of annoyance, gesturing fruitlessly towards the ref and the Beaters who had taken him down. "I suppose it's flattering to him that he's always the first target," the captain muttered before heading off to start the next play.

Mikey had cheered loudly when Winnie scored, his voice carrying as well as it might to the pitch, his fists clenching with pride at how smoothly it had gone through. That was awesome. Ravenclaw was doing what Ravenclaw did best.

Everything else was making Mikey’s stomach twist. Jorah’s fall so early had made Mikey cringe, his cheers cutting off mid word as he watched the medic rush onto the pitch. He rubbed his hands together, jaw clenched, eyes fixed on the sky. “You’ve got this,” he shouted anyway, his voice carrying towards the flying figures. Aly breaking off had given Mikey a spark of hope. He leaned forward, hands grasping the railing watching the match unfold.

They weren't immediately falling apart like last time. That was a good sign. Though Avery knew in a matter of moments that things could change for the worse. "See there? That was a sneaky move on Harlan's part. He's lucky he wasn't caught." Avery commented to Frederick who she strategized with.

She cheered as loud as her lungs would allow her when Pax knocked one of the older Ravenclaw beaters off his broom. "Woo! Way to go Pax! Keep it up guys!" Maybe they did have a chance. Maybe they could do this. There were a lot of maybes. Too many.

And off they went. Charlie’s eyes flicked around the pitch, keeping her eyes peeled for the opposing chasers. She noticed Winnie with the burgundy quaffle across the pitch, scoring goal after goal on the Gryffindors.

She rubbed her eyes and wiped some of the rain off of her freezing face before scanning her surroundings again. Even though the quaffle was across the pitch, she still had to keep her eyes open just in case anyone went after her, like they did Jorah almost every game.

Quinn cheered as the quaffle was scored 5 times. Quinn cringed as Jorah, one of her teamates, was knocked off his broom by a bludger. She heard cheering from below and was glad to hear her teamates cheering on the game. Quinn noticed that there was some... not exactly legal moves going on in her team but the ref didn't notice so Quinn didn't really care to much.

Watching their action in vain wasn’t the greatest thing to experience. Rosaline kept flying and observe her teammates and opponents. Pax successfully took down the Beater from Ravenclaw. He fell to the ground. Rosaline winced, she had been there several times too, so she could imagine the pain and distress. Shifting her focus back in the sky, the young Gryffindor couldn’t hide her excitement for their captain. “Yes, Pax! Go Gryffindor,” she cheered loudly. Gripping her Comet 180 tighter, she leaned forward, determined to be more helpful to their team as possible as she could.
