Minnie managed to burn her vines away, but Bree was less lucky, and got dragged away. "Bree!" She shouted, trying desperately to grab hold of her as she was dragged away. "This is not good. Gaa!" She yelled at the sky in frustration. As Minnie looked over at the edge, trying to find Bree, she saw other people getting dragged down to be captured by the magical vines. How did this even happen? Someone has to be behind this. But now was not the time for thinking and plotting, she had to save Bree, and everyone else!

The night had started out peacefully, a way to escape from the struggles and stress of life. The stars were tranquil, and you could almost forget about everything surrounding you. But whatever had made those vines appear had ruined a perfect night. Those vines were slithery and disgusting, as well as extremely creepy. She had barely managed to get away from them, her quick thinking and luck of her wand being there was the only reason she wasn't with Bree as a captive.

"Pepper imps! Why did this have to happen, and tonight of all nights? If it happened a few days earlier, this place would be empty and no one would get hurt. If I ever find out who or what did this..." Minnie paused, taking a deep breath. Anger was not going to help here. She needed a plan! If only I could get down there...

She ran back inside to her bed, an idea forming quickly. She rooted around in her trunk, then found what she was looking for and ran back outside. She was clutching her broom, ready to face the horrors of those vines once again. Broom in hand, she jumped off the balcony and onto her broom. As she hovered, she could see the vines, waiting to slither around anyone who dared to get close enough. Minnie shivered, then started to fly down to the captives at top speed, ready to dodge around everything that came her way.

🆃he shock on her face remained. Her jaw dropped at the scene. Devil’s Snare swiftly snatched her friend off the balcony. In the blink of an eye, all she could hear was silence. That moment was the first horror thing she experienced in her life. Her guilt started to tighten in her chest. It was her plan to help him from the beginning. And it was a FAIL!

Who could be more to blame than the one who suggested and forgot that she incompetient to do so. Repeating herself with the thought that she could have done better than this. How could she be this poorly lack of spell and slowness?

Suddenly, Zephyr’s voice snapped her out of her head. Right… She should not give up now because Ryder was still alive, whether in any stead he was in. After the black tendrils retreated as it’s satisfied. She looked down from the balcony. Widen eyes lit up again. It was like she could not think there would be anything worse than the terror she faced, yet she could put that theory away. Scanning at other high house’s residents encounter the same situation was scaring her. The vines net towered a long way down to their dark pitch. Indeed terrifying sight to see. How could they go there? And what would be waiting for them?

Skylar looked at the way Rose suggested. She could tell her best friend was afraid of the heights, but brave enough to consider climbing it. Rose's plan sounded good, and she was proud of her friend with both smartness and braveness, enough to brush of the negative thought inside her mind.

Her gray eyes shone back fighty once more. She grabbed Rose's hands, gently comforting her. “It’s alright. I will go with Zeph. You don’t have to force yourself too much. We’ll do as you said, and we will fight this together.”

She nodded along after Zephyr mentioned he was ready. One hand held the wood, and one grabbed his hand, hopping onto his broom. She sat behind him. “I’ll watch your back.” Said she, focusing. As Zephyr's last sentence finished, she gazed at Rose again. A genuine smile implied that she was confident, and Rose should be too. She knew that her friend would understand how much she believed in her.

𝔉or the most senior of Hogwarts' existing students, life at the Scottish school hadn't exactly been without times of trial and tribulation, with many an occasion questioning whether the life of one or another would be snuffed out in that moment. No novice to peril, Evelynn herself had experienced first hand just how dangerous the wizarding world could be without ever having to step foot from Hogwarts' grounds to do so. At this point, there was very little that surprised the lioness. Fewer still that could leave her utterly speechless. This managed to accomplish both of those. As she launched from the ledge of their High House astride her Silver Arrow, it became very evident very quickly that the monstrosity she had spied from the window had been but the tip of the iceberg.

"Merlin..." Exasperation loosed itself in a breath as she peeled out into the canopies, brows rising with apprehension as the sheer scope of their new problem just seemed to continue without end in site. Not only had the vines overtaken the trees, they crossed like a labyrinth across the surface of the cliffs, growing thicker and more sinister the further they descended, ultimately obscuring the little town she knew to lay below in its entirety. If there was one thing that could be said about Hogwarts' threats, they were at least vaguely human-sized. For the most part.

Not that now was the time to contemplate such things, not with the symphony of screams that stitched their way into the hearts and souls that listened on. Not when one among them was their own. Far from the only airborne student, the other High Houses seemed to be spitting out their own residents like hornets roused from their hives, all criss-crossing and converging on this mutual enemy. A cursory glance was all that was needed to realize that nearly every one of them was at least several years their junior. It was the Gryffindor House Cup fiasco all over again: brave little children without the sense to realize when they were in over their heads and who could very well end up contributing to the greater problem in their efforts to help. It was sometimes hard to believe that she had once walked those very shoes. Given there was nothing that could be done to deter them, they would just have to deal with such consequences as they arose.

A vine struck out towards her, forcing her both to veer hard to the side to avoid its length and to focus her attention on the task at hand. One victim at a time. Aly wasn't the only one who had been ensnared, after all. Screams trailed all around her, marking at least half a dozen trapped students just nearby. In addition to their own Starlight, she recognized @Mamori Anezaki of Hufflepuff who had filled the role of junior captain during a pick-up game earlier in the year in a similar states of helplessness. The others she would have recognized as well had they been near and stationary enough for her to get a good look at them, but the chaos of the moment didn't quite lend to such specificity.

"Should we split up?" she shouted towards @Madhup Hexum when she'd spotted him amidst the other broom riders. Anxious as she was to propel into action, it was better to do so with some semblance of a plan. They couldn't spend too much time in contemplation, but she would nevertheless attempt to locate and wave down @Pericles Dralt and @Dealla Prince long enough to discuss whatever concepts of a plan they might attempt haphazardly to throw together. Time was most certainly of the essence, however, and the lioness would not linger long. Particularly not once she say just how precariously close one particular individual--who must have been grabbed prior to the rest--was coming to the gaping void spanning the city below. The point of her wand in @Hans Jenssen-Schäfer's direction emphasized her announcement. "I'm going after that one!"

And then she dove, burgundy silk pyjamas flapping in the wind as she pressed herself flat against the shaft of her broom, bare toes curling for purchase around the footrests. She might not have encountered a man-eating plant quite of this magnitude before, but she did have many years of experience as seeker of Gryffindor's quidditch team, maintaining those skills even after she had stepped down from captaincy and team. The vines were bludgers; the trapped student, her snitch. Instinct quietly took over, subtle commands given to the broom to pitch, yaw, swerve and roll as needed to avoid incoming assaults. If she could get close enough, she would raise her wand to point at the constricting vine and shout, "Lumos Maxima".

It had worked in their homestead, so hopefully it would do so again. Besides, she didn't need to banish it completely. If she could just make it recoil, even just a bit, just enough to loosen its hold on the young boy so that she could pull him to the safety of her broom, that would be enough.
action: dives after Hans Jenssen-Schäfer, attempts to cast Lumos Maxima at the vines holding him, and pull him to her broom

As the vines pulled back and allowed them to escape the place, Tone's brow furrowed a little. Ye-jun's help with bandaging him came in handy and he showed his appreciation for it with a smile. The way the other male kept hold of his hand made Tone feel warm inside. It was nice to have someone want to hold his hand for a long period of time. Usually it was just him doing so. "You fixed me up, so I should be good for awhile. I'd like to check out the situation and see what is going on. If there are a lot of people already trying to help those who need it, we can go seek safety at that point. But if there's no one there, I can't just flee by myself." Tone told him. He pointed at his bag off to the side and headed over with Ye-jun to grab the straps of the enchanted backpack by his bed.

"I brought Gin, just in case I might need it." Tone told him with a smile. Gin was the name he called his Silver Arrow broom. "He can carry both of us, if you didn't bring yours." A mew could be heard down at Tone's feet and he looked down to see Mochi there looking up at him. "Ah, right. Mochi. Maybe we should try and find a safe place for Mochi first before checking things out?" Tone said as he thought for a moment. "Do you see a safe place anywhere Ye-jun?" He asked him, looking over at his close friend... who could possibly be more in the future... Once they found a safe spot, they could leave Mochi there and then try and help others. Tone waited to see what Ye-jun would say and if he'd been able to spot a good place. The quidditch beater pulled Gin out of his pack.

He put the straps over his shoulders and Mochi hopped up onto the tail end of the broom. "Come on." Tone encouraged Ye-jun to sit behind him.

Rocketing from the high-house, the eagle known as Pericles bulleted after the unconscious form of @Aly Salinger. He had just cleared the windowsill when a vine sent him barrel-rolling to the side, and his beak snapped as a second tried to entangle itself with his leg, slicing through the inky tendril in vicious defiance. While this was far from the first catastrophe the Hogwarts crew had faced, the sheer scale of their predicament was mortifying. A cacophony of screams filled the air as vines spread in every direction, swallowing lights and stealing away children. His heart leapt in shock then sank in horror at the sight. Instantaneously, the simple objective of "get Aly back" had become complicated beyond merely reaching her. The bird knew better than to surge onward alone. Opening his wings wide, he fell back, circling towards his remaining cabinmates with a forlorn cry.

Pericles chose the broom least likely to tilt from sudden weight, @Madhup Hexum's, landing in front of the flyer and resuming human shape while sitting sideways. He gripped the Chaser's shoulder with one hand and pointed towards the web with the other, calling first to @Dealla Prince then to anyone else in earshot: "I've found her, but I count at least six others. I need catchers ready!" Urgency rang at the edge of his imperial boom, though his expression was firm and his eyes were clear with focus. @Evelynn Decipio had wasted no time in diving for the lowest captive (Hans), while three little witches crowded on one broom (Maisie, Adeline, Robin) seemed to be flying to Aly's rescue. "Get me closer," he directed Mad, body swaying to center his balance as they maneuvered.

Kim had to admit, Colin's reactions were awesome and made their situation feel a little less dangerous. Val's spell made the vines paralyzed and Kim was able to yank his hand free but before he could do anything, all of the vines drew back and disappeared from their vision. What on earth was going on? Kim's brow furrowed a little bit as Kibō slithered to the edge of the platform and looked down. Screams echoed in the distance and Kim rushed over to the edge to stare down into the abyss. "Merlin..." He murmured upon seeing what was going on below. Kim felt a little faint. Right. The duelist was so high up. Oh, Kim shouldn't have done that, what had he been thinking?! He'd been so concerned about all the screams, he'd moved without thinking much about where he was now... This was not a good position for him to be in. Maybe Kim was the one who needed help... "We need... to help... them..."

Knowing Val, he'd want to go off and save them all on his own... Kim would have normally helped him in any way possible but this had to do with heights, the one thing he couldn't do anything to assist anyone in. "C-Colin..." He stammered, even though Kim wanted Val to stay with him, Kim knew he probably wouldn't because there were others who needed help, others who mattered more than him. Colin also probably would want to help and so did Kim but as it was now, Kim wasn't able to do much of anything if there were heights involved. It was obvious what should happen. "You - " He started to say, about to suggest Colin should go help too and leave him there. But Kim promptly passed out directly after that, still on top of the High House. Or wherever the hell he was, his brain was not working at all right now. Everything was spinning around. Okay, there it was. Darkness. He was fine in dreamworld.

Meanwhile... based off what Val has told me over discord...

Val is afraid for Kim as he loses consciousness and since Val is newly a legilimens he worries what would happen if he had to try to repeat what happened with Nikolai, trying to bring someone back from near death just using their mind. Val really doesn't want Kim to die and even if you and I know that no one dies when they are just KO'd, Val has no way of knowing this. He would exclaim something like, no, Kim, stay with me! And he would look haunted, like he should have done something but never got around to it.

Being next to Kim he would be touching and pulling his shirt asking him to wake up (for drama rather than official action). Then he'd hear the plight of others and become enraged, telling Kim furiously that he's not allowed to go anywhere with some strange vines and that he belongs to him. Then he gets on his broom and tries to go save Nikolai Volkov, whom I don't see anyone else trying to save.

In the end Val feels too many have already been taken from him and he doesn't intend to let some stupid vine take any more.

Ye-jun was glad to see his friend in relatively good condition. He was still hurt but the bandages should do the job until they reached safety. Assuming nothing else went terribly wrong. Which just might be the case. Ye-jun really wished Eun-ji was here right now. She was great at handling crises just like this and she was an excellent healer too. “Well…I’m glad it helped but still, make sure to be careful, okay? You won’t be able to help anyone if you don’t keep yourself safe first.” Of course, the Beauxbatons student said this mainly because he worried but it was also true. Reckless heroics only really worked in books and movies. In reality, injured person trying to help another, often ended in disaster.

When Tone let go of his hand to fetch his broom Ye-jun didn’t protest. The little comfort was nice but now was time to act. “No, I didn’t bring mine unfortunately but if we get separated, I can always climb or there is a levitation spell.” He looked around at the spiderweb the vines have somehow created. Too many student’s trapped by the plant waiting for their rescue. Joining his friend on the broom, he took Mochi into his hands, scratching her behind ears. “I don’t know…maybe it would be safest leave her here in the house? Behind the bed or something? The plant…or whatever it is… probably won’t be interested in it now that we won’t be here and she certainly can’t go with us down there.” He stared into the deep darkness below. “If you are worried, we could perhaps use a disillusionment charm on her?” Ye-jun never used that particular spell beyond the lesson where he learned it but it was worth a try if his friend wasn’t comfortable with leaving his furry baby here without any protection.

One thing was clear however, the decision needed to be made as soon as possible so the two of them could get to work. He could see some of the other students already helping but many of them were too young to be out there saving others on their own. (While waiting for the decision, Ye-jun is still keeping eye for any rogue vines and casting Bluebell Flames on any, too close for comfort)

One foot in the grave again. At this rate he was going to have to start paying rent for that spot by the Sanzu River.

This was, roughly speaking, the third coherent thought Mamori managed to produce after being yanked off the balcony. The first does not meet the content standards of a PG-13 platform and since that is what this is, his writer is taking it to the grave. The second was that he very badly needed to throw up, followed immediately by the inconvenient question of whether doing so would make the thing around his torso loosen out of self-preservation instinct, or make it angry enough to skip the slow strangulation and go straight for the kill. He had no way of knowing without trying and could not afford to be wrong, so he let it go and tried to breathe through his nose instead.

The vine (or whatever it technically qualified as) had taken a strong personal interest in his face and covered roughly half of it. What remained of his line of sight was split between a wall of black rushing past and the occasional brief appearance of other students also very much not having a good time, at least confirmed this wasn't exclusive. The collective screaming around him was doing nothing for his nerves. The echo in whatever they were falling through had a way of hitting at least twice per sound. Between that and the speed and the complete absence of any horizon to orient himself with, Mamori had developed a pressing new item on his list of things he did not want to think about.

He's a Quidditch player. He had logged more hours at altitude than most people logged indoors (probably true if you didn't factor in that he was twelve with only one year of quid experience), so developing a height problem now, over this, because of vines, would be embarrassing in ways that outlasted the actual crisis. The pink-haired badger refused to give it the satisfaction.

The first minute or so of the descent had involved significantly more struggling, which turned out to be educational in the way that touching a hot stove is educational. The thick tendril's response was immediate and proportional in all the wrong ways — it tightened, his breathing got harder, and at one point his vision went nearly black — and by the third attempt Mamori had arrived at "brute force is not the answer." One "oh for the love of —" followed by something wobbling that came out as "help me please I am asking nicely" later, he'd switched to minimal movement and breathing as shallowly as the situation allowed, because he really did not want to find out what came after step two.

That wand of his, that beautiful, underutilized wand that Mamori was now missing with a depth of feeling he had never previously applied to it — was still on top of his trunk, which was still in his room, which was now twenty centimeters and one balcony and god knows how many floors above him and getting further away by the second. There was genuinely nothing new to say about that except that the situation had not improved, and that there were at least four reasonable explanations for how it got to this point, but none of it was getting his wand back. The new permanent rule was wand on him every single hour of every single day for the rest of his natural life, full stop. There were Muggles who solved this exact problem with shoulder holsters and Mamori wanted the wizarding equivalent, custom made and enchanted and comfortable enough to sleep in, and his parents were going to hear about it whether they wanted to or not.

Nothing to do but wait and see what was at the bottom. He breathed out slowly and did exactly that.

If Mad resents his Quidditch-scholarship receiving self and his two-hundred-galleon broom being utilized as a chauffer service, he's locked in enough not to express it. The Durmstrang flyer had divebombed from the high-houses in hot pursuit of Aly, determined to wrench his girlfriend's bestie back from the plantmade hell trying to swallow her whole. The bird boy had surged ahead only to return with a report. Aly was entangled, but so were several other children, who Pear was preparing to free with magic. He was less keen on being told to bring the caster closer to his targets, and while he obliged, he made sure to shout over the cacophony of spells and screams: "I will shove you off if I need to catch someone!" He could fly. He would be fine. Pericles was undaunted by the threat, wand steady as he fired back: "Do whatever you need to. Just let me cast first." His broom wasn't built for three. Aly was being rescued by a trio, and if they didn't have room for her, he certainly did. He scanned not the center of the chaos, where students were being freed from bondage, but below in search of anyone plummeting.

MODERATION ROUND ONE
Flying headfirst into the unknown the second year triplets proved what loyalty was to a fault. @Maisie Gemmell and @Robin Marie didn’t hesitate for a second when they knew what was at stake, they saw their house captain in trouble and knew that as capable as @Aly Salinger was, no one could face what they had all just been through alone. While @Adeline Spinks took a little more convincing than the others, the risk of sudden death and a perfectly executed bravery charm from Robin had her hopping on that broom like she had been the ring leader all along. Despite the three of them having to huddle together tightly Maisie managed to adjust to the balance tremendously and before they knew it she was whisking about the air as easily as in a solo ride. Not willing to lose their captain the trio worked in harmony to dodge every potential threat and within minutes they had made it to the unconscious senior delivering a devastating severing charm across the stalk right below where it held her.

Everything was going to plan, perhaps even too much so. In an instant the cut stalk regrew but instead of snatching Aly it hurled itself towards the broom of the trio knocking them senseless all clinging to it for dear life while Aly’s lifeless form plummeted through the air. Clinging with all their strength Maisie and Robin hurled themselves back up, but the gasp that ripped through the air was immediate. Adeline’s fingers left the broom and she began racing towards the ground herself. A new victim, a new person in need of rescuing before it was too late.

As for Aly, the sudden rush of adrenaline from the free fall would shunt her from her unconsciousness to see the harrowing terror of the sky getting further and further away from her. As a prolific quidditch player she was aware that could only mean one thing. Though she was now free from her plant awaited doom, gravity was rapidly becoming a problem. In mere moments she knew she would not survive but as the severed fauna fell away from her back she felt a sharp poking nagging at her. Whether luck or a result of the constant trauma associated whenever the international schools convened, she had managed to sleep with her wand. But would she manage to pull herself together before it was too late?

When a friend was in danger there was no time for logic, no time for strategy, only time for action, at least if you were a Gryffindor that was. @Avery Gray didn’t hesitate for a second when the time struck, there was not a single fibre of her being that would not throw herself into the fray and luckily for @Bree Grey, the lioness quidditch seeker was not after a snitch when she saddled her broom in those early hours. She had to reach her, she had to save her, she had to save everyone, after all lions didn’t leave the pack behind. Though it seemed the wild lioness was not the only one brave or foolish enough to dive into that danger as no sooner had she dove did @Mikey Forville soar like the raven he was to her flank. Together they cut through the air as easily as melted butter making quick work of the hazardous vines not letting anything slow them. Yet these were not beaters or bludgers, this magic was off, it was wrong and it was not about to be stopped by some mere second years. The pair could have sworn the vine had not been there the second prior, would have sworn their life on it and they almost did. As it smacked directly into them both avid flyers desperately clung as best they could while the whiplash threatened to send them free falling, Using each other as leverage they resecured themself on their brooms and after a moment of heavy breath to recover they would be ready to continue. Yet in their stumble, Bree had grown even further and more and more students were in danger. If they were going to do this, they would need all the help they could get.

@Rose Pearce and @Devon Wallen did not immediately throw themselves into danger like some of the more impulsive flyers. They knew that observation was crucial to understanding what was going on and with knowledge would come strategy. Rose, commanding the attention of her peers, would summon the lion’s courage and immediately lead @Zephyr Deakin to his broom. She was aware that even if strategy was the best solution, they did not have the luxury of time to protect their friends and secure their safety. Thus joined by @Skylar Astor she sent them off flying towards @Ryder Hawke desperate that they would succeed, they had to. While she waited and pondered what was next another student from Beauxbatons was mirroring her inquisitive mind and scanning for any signs to aid in her way down. Devon had already lost two of her homesteaders to the vines and recklessly endangering herself was not going to help anyone. But as she watched the space below and saw the benefit of those riders who combined team work versus those who acted alone she knew she required backup. As she prepared to scour for just that, her eyes were immediately drawn to the audacity of a young Rose whose flame red hair must have imbued her with some fiery nonsensical ideas for she was climbing down onto the vines ready to scale them herself. There was a level of marvel at the determination and Devon considered that she might have just found the perfect backup.

Meanwhile Zephyr was doing some of his most incredible work to date. As only a first year his broom racing skill was only beginning to flourish but he had surely learned a lot in a short period of time. Managing to manoeuvre the vines with as much flourish as those thrice his year he ploughed through the course imagining it to be nothing more than another racing drill. Only this was no drill, and unlike the practice courses at Hogwarts this danger was very real and very sentient. As the pair approached Ryder where he was being dragged entangled in vine they saw a clear path, though not one that would last long. Skylar watched, gripping onto Zephyr for dear life as the contortion of nature began to shift and split, turning the once thick vines into a narrow mesh of impassable terrain, fencing them from Ryder. Despite her worry she did not falter and trusting in Zephyr she told him to push on believing in herself to perform the impossible. As he pressed on straight towards the narrow thicket she raised her wand and screaming incendio she burnt a hole through the vines allowing them to pass. With the obstacle cleared they were but a few metres away from Ryder, now they just had to rescue him.

With all the chaos it was near impossible to see who still needed help and where not to get in the way of another. Which made @Minnie Duke’s decision to fly on the ere of caution, focusing on her dodging a most logical approach. She was not full sending her way into a dangerous situation nor was she sitting still waiting for orders, instead she was watching, observing, and far more closely than most. Such keen tracking led her to discover something that others had not, for while everyone was focused on the falling or ensnared victims she was fuelled with a curiosity and outrage at the source of all this pain. The shadow at first seemed like nothing but when she clued in and took the time she noticed it to be not a shadow at all but a shadowy figure seemingly casting something upon the vines. Without any clear notion of who this person was, and the blatant distinction that their spell certainly didn’t seem to have positive effects, Minnie was left to ponder if this caster was friend or foe. Though as experience went, shadowy figures never tended to reveal themselves as friends.

_____________

@Hans Jenssen-Schäfer being the first victim to fall prey to this parasitical plant was most clearly the one most in danger. @Evelynn Decipio had friends out there, some of her closest, one she deemed as close as a best friend. @Aly Salinger had been by her side for years, she had so recently stood next to her at Winnie’s wedding and that too had gone to hell. It was an unfortunate reality of growing up in the wizarding world, but it meant that sometimes you had to make hard decisions. Despite their bond, Evelynn knew that Hans was in the greatest danger and so she didn’t lose a second in flying for him. As her silk burgundy pyjamas blew wildly with the gale force of her descent she turned the hellish scenario into a game, envisioned the obstacles as bludgers and pressed on with ease like the once Gryffindor seeker she had been. Muscle memory that would never truly leave her. Though just as she felt she’d learnt the game some of the vines began to open and blooming from their tears tiny spores of vapour began to emit in her direction. Stalling instantaneously she pulled up on her broom and considered her options. Hans was on the other side, a child in danger. There was no option, holding her breath she laced though the spore cloud and making it to the other side took a breath of relief seeing Hans within reach. Shielding her eyes she blasted the dark thing with a radiance of Lumos Maxima but as the light faded and her eyes adjusted she was met with a terrible sight. Defensively the vine had curled itself in front of Hans like a shield and with the lights severance he was now free-falling at a rapid pace, and to make matters worse, so was Aly.

Mr @Kim Sato was blissfully unaware of the height of the dangers that lay below and he would no doubt be thankful for it. Having passed out from the very thought of descending the mountainous peaks on a broom, he would not be subject to the suffering that would befall his close friend @Valentin Azat Schnell. The blinding star seeker of Durmtrang's quidditch team was notorious for his skill on the broom which is likely why he made child’s play of threading the needle between many parts of vines less skilled flyers would have no doubt been entangled within. Yet there was one thing in life that clouded Valentin’s judgement more than anything else. @Nikolai Volkov was perhaps one of the most important parts of his life, their hearts were intertwined thicker than any vine could ever grow, but when he was in danger, Valentin threw caution to the wind and that recklessness would perhaps become his demise. As he spun round inky tendrils of vine and dodged the ever growing mass that seemed to form from nowhere Valentin had Nikolai in sight, his Kol’ka, and so growing complacent in his evasion knowing speed was critical he did not see as the vine beneath him began to secrete that fungal cloud of spores til it had already entered his nostrils. For those watching the white comet would enter the cloud of noxious gas like a bullet, but he would not enter as such. Succumbing to the magical spores Valentin fell into a deep sleep, slipping from his broom and departing the cloud not through but beneath, as he beame yet another victim, addition to the talley of those that needed rescued.

@Tone Bakugo and @Ye-Jun Lee were not yet in the frey of the gnarled vine problem as they had to look after one another first and most important of all, Tone’s cat Mochi. Debating over solutions while the spark of something lingered between them, Ye-Jun so expertly thought of the disillusionment spell. If not a perfect solution, it was truly all they had, and with the growing cacophony of screams alarming them of the growing danger, it was seemingly all they could do. Still it would be left up to the pair, but the longer they deliberated the more risk they left the others to contest with alone. Yet perhaps that was not their problem, having already survived so many of these horror stories over the years it was a surprise they kept trying, kept expecting something better or even different. Sometimes survival involved putting yourself and those you love first, but if that was the choice they made, they had better be sure they could live with the consequences.

_____________

Our last heroes of the day were none other than @Pericles Dralt and @Madhup Hexum, who seemingly made it a principle of throwing themselves in front of danger to protect others. It was of course a most admirable trait, but not one that served longevity. That didn’t change the fact, however, that people did need saving so combining their skills Madhup took upon himself the control of the flying while Pericles readied himself for the necessary spell work that was sure to come. Despite Pericles' initial desire to rescue Aly he had to accept another approach, for there were already three heroines on their way and too many students to rescue, a decision he would no doubt come to regret when the result caught his eyeline. Madhup instead expertly directed the pair through the air until they came close to the closest of those in need of rescue.

@Mamori Anezaki had all but given up on his attempts to resist the torment of this stupid vined entity, after all such attempts had only brought him closer to the afterlife, or at the very least unconsciousness. Still when the older pair of boys came rushing towards him the brim of hope once again filled his eyes and some of his earlier exploitives died on his tongue. He was one of two rescued Pericles intended to make as he began to spread his spell, splitting the revulsion jinx in two with the intent of freeing both Mamori and a younger student named Ryder who appeared to have friends hastily approaching ready to rescue. Yet as the spell was about to be released his keen awareness instantly piqued and from the corner of his eye he saw a grasping vine soaring towards Madhup at inhuman speeds. Redirecting the course of his magic he yelled for the other to duck and sent the second relashio soaring towards the handsy vine that had Madhup’s luscious hair in its sight. With barely any time for gratitude's Madhup practically flung himself half way off his broom to grab Mamori’s shirt and heave them onto their broom flexing his great physical strength with ease.

While they had successfully rescued one victim and narrowly escaped their own demise, this was far from over, and as the boys looked down to the horrors of the vine-like web below their hearts would sink deep into their stomachs. To Pericles’ devastation Aly was plummeting towards the ground, eyes wide in shock and screams no doubt tearing from her throat. While for Madhup the torture of watching his beloved captain powerless and in that same immediate danger. They had fared well as a team so far but now their closest people were hundreds of metres apart and both doomed to the whim of gravity. Would they stick together and be forced to choose, or would they take matters into their own hands and risk their own skin?
Ensnared: Stage 2 - Moderation Round 1
Summary:
  • Maisie, Robin and Adeline opting to favour their chances together hopped upon Maisie's broom and shot towards Aly with remarkable precision. Maisie's spell would release at the perfect moment severing the tie between the vines core and Aly but as they reached out to grab her the cut stalk retaliated causing Maisie and Robin to falter on the broom that came to a sudden halt almost flinging them off. Their actions dooming not only, a now conscious, Aly to plummet towards the ground but Adeline too. Half movement this turn while getting back on broom.
  • Avery would shoot after Bree with as much haste as she could summon Mikey following closely behind unwilling to lose her. The talented fliers weaved through the vines like they were born for it but when one appeared seemingly out of nowhere on their path causing them to nearly fly off their brooms. Clinging on for dear life they pulled themselves back up but had to stop to do so. Half movement this turn while getting back on broom.
  • Zephyr and Skylar shot off after Ryder but before they could get close the vines began to knit themselves together in their path creating far narrower passageways to weave through. Ready on the defence Skylar trusted in Zephyr's flying capabilities and shot forth a raging incendio causing the gap before them to burn open enough to squeeze through preventing them from being ensnared.
  • Minnie unsure what way to go witnessed the different effects of the vine before spotting a shadowed figure down on the under grove below it all who seemed to be casting some kind of enchantment on the vines. A culprit, or an ally, it was hard to tell.
  • Devon realising that the only way to make this work was to follow the crowds plan jumped upon her broom and spotting a younger student Rose that was beginning to attempt to descend the vines by foot considered picking up an ally for extra defence.
  • Evelynn dove head first into the chaos incessant that she would not let the historic failure of international events be repeated. Diving after Hans she whipped her silver arrow perfectly around the vines and upon narrowly avoiding a rogue spore cloud held her breath and cast lumos maxima, yet in an deflective manoeuvre the plant shielded her hand from catching the boy and he became the third to join the free fallers.
  • Kim did not manage to wake from his lull of unconsciousness and thankfully he didn't, for he surely would not have wished to see the sight of Valentin masterfully evading this vile plant only to succumb to a spore cloud and fall peacefully asleep, fall right off his broom marking number 4 in the fallout tribute band.
  • Ye-Jun would have the bright idea to disillusion Tone's cat Mochi and if they chose to do so they could (free action to be rp'd) but as the screaming was growing and more bodies were beginning to plummet they would be needed in the air as soon as could be, but would they make it in time?
  • Pericles and Madhup formed a dream team using each other as leverage to intertwine between vine and obstacles like it was second nature. Seeing that the girls were managing to ride so efficiently they were not at first worried about Aly and thus managed to free Mamori with a powerful combination of Pericles raw arcane power and Madhups incredible strength. But as they surveyed again they would see that not only was Aly now free falling but so too were Hans, Valentine, and one of the trio intending to save Aly, Adeline.
Hans, Aly, Adeline, Val - Free-falling (2 rounds before hitting ground)
Bree, Niko, Ryder - Still restrained (3 rounds to rescue)
Mamori - Rescued
