Eonaria was very…. different than all the other pureblood children Theophilus had been forced to meet. She seemed to know what she was supposed to do but was so uncomfortable with his mere presence that she couldn’t follow the script that they were supposed to have perfected. She wore her emotions on her sleeve, oh so different from the mask that Theophilus has quickly perfected over the last couple months.

Her embarrassment and discomfort were fully on show as she looked around like the words she wanted to say would be written on her bedroom walls. The younger boy almost felt bad for making her feel so uncertain but he was the guest, he was expecting better from someone raised in a British pureblood household when he just started being a part of that world.

Her question came out quickly and almost thoughtlessly, like she didn’t see the problem in asking him about the clear conversation happening downstairs. How could she not know what they were talking about downstairs? Even though Florence wasn’t the heir in the Castellano legacy she still knew about the family’s dealings, so why would Eonaria be so clueless? He looked over the girl’s room, taking in the white walls and the minimalist decor. The boy wondered how telling the girl’s room was about Eonaria personally, was she also as unassuming and plain. Was she just waiting to be more than just plain? Was that why she was questioning the conversation they were just pointy asked to leave?

“Grandmother is looking to collect this year’s personal donations. We are building a memorial for the lives lost in the explosions in Hogsmeade,” He said it almost robotically, repeating the same words that his grandmother had told him over and over for the past month as they visited pureblood or wealthy wizarding Aristocrats for the same reason. He didn’t ask any questions over why these families would give anything, but he figured it was mostly a sense of responsibility and pride that stopped many from not giving.

The girl’s second question, though, made him frown. Did she expect him to keep account of what his grandmother says she’s doing with the donations to the Witches for a Better Britain? Was… was she accusing them of something? “I…” Theophilus didn’t know what to say, he didn’t know what they did the other years, as he was still in Russia then. Was he supposed to keep a mental list of their philanthropy just in case he is questioned like this in the future?

The young heir grimaced at the idea of that before speaking softly, “I do not know… I only, I am from Russia, before this year.” He flushed lightly at his stumbling words, feeling a lot less confident without words to parrot from his grandmother to this young girl. Theophilus only really wanted to be fluent in his grandmother’s language when it came to times like this, when she wasn’t here to take over the conversations that he was not yet practiced on.

None of the other heirs ever questioned him on anything other than the expected. What is his name, his favorite quidditch team, the school he is set to start…. The boy was rarely put on the spot, and had gotten used to saying the prepared words from his grandmother. My name is Theophilus Cornelius Castellano, heir to the Castellanos. I like the Puddlemere United, a noble team willing to help their fellow witch. I will be starting Hogwarts in the Fall.

Theophilus looked up at the girl as she seemed to lose herself in her own thoughts. He wondered if she would even care for those facts. He wondered if she would judge him for like the violent Falmouth Falcons instead of the socially acceptable Puddlemeres. He wondered if she even cared for the pleasantries that he was forced to learn to repeat.

Note: Unnecessary information: Puddlemeres are very into philanthropy so its a safe answer, where as the Falcons are the most violent professional team from england.

XXXEonaria found the boy's response to be more-or-less the exact same thing that his grandmother had said. It was more than a little frustrating, but sometimes Raiame behaved the exact same way, so she didn't comment on it. Not that it would be appropriate to.

XXX"I see," she said after a moment. "How lovely."

XXXIt was possible that this was really the only reason for the visit, but Ms Castellano's demeanor gave her an uneasy feeling. It was also very unlikely. Or maybe the boy truly did not know what his grandmother was doing? Am I going cynical?

XXXAs her thoughts began to drift again, Eonaria wondered why Ms Castellano was the one collecting funds. Did she work at the Ministry of Magic as well, or were people able to just propose public projects with enough funds? She was beginning to have a sinking feeling that one, she was supposed to know the answer to this question, and two, she was supposed to know who Ms Castellano was. Her father certainly did. Ah, no, this meeting was coordinated by owl, of course he knows who she is.

XXXWhy on earth would her father trust her to make a good impression on the boy? She would have to ask him. The longer the two of them stood there, though it hadn't been more than a few seconds, the more daunting any further speech seemed. To her relief, the boy spoke first, sparing her a few more moments.

XXX"Oh!" Eonaria said, relaxing imperceptibly. Back to more regular pleasantries, then. That was something she could do. "How wonderful. What is it like in Russia?" she inquired, lightening her voice a little. She must have been too forward earlier. "Are you adjusting to life in the United Kingdom well?"

XXXTo be honest, the only things she knew about Russia were that it was snowy in most regions, they had a wizarding school whose name she couldn't pronounce, and that hags were native there. Overall, not a very good understanding. Maybe Eonaria could take this opportunity to learn more, even if their relationship was already tainted by impending doom. Hopefully she never had to face the boy again.

XXXDon't be too negative! It's not unsalvageable just yet! She was already guaranteed for a lecture after all this was over, anyway. Eonaria offered the boy a small smile.
