The traveller wagons were not just a vibrant burst of colour in the thick green forestry but a symbol of power for those that had left behind their lives in search of peace and training. The history of the Isle was not without its skeletons, war and occupation had devastated communities both magical and not across the world and the Isle served as a sanctuary away from that. It gave the magical world in Asia and Oceania a hope that there was a better choice than the simple survival of hiding.

These were places of reverence to the early sacrifices of the Isle's founders. Magically enhanced to keep their colour so that they would always be a light in the jungle they did not expect the intrusion of darkness to soil them. Wells of tentacle like vines began to slink around their wheels, damaging artifacts beloved by the locals. Paint scraped away as holes were burrowed through the vines desperately seeking what lay within, who lay within. As it broke in splintering wood in its wake it pierced the enchantments of the structures and lurked its way into the magically enhanced interiors to find its prey. Slithering within as the sun began to dawn on the new day it moved with haste eager to fester in the darker edges of the wagons were it could thrive. Where it could feed.

Yet not all monsters growled before the feast, some worked best in the shadows and silence and thrived when those around them were least capable. Roll: 1This was one such strain, for it moved like air itself barely making a sound careful to no exhibit too much pressure until it had sprawled itself almost entirely over Elias the younger of the pair. With his shorter size it did not take long to full encompass him until the constricting would begin and he would wake suddenly jolted by the pain with just enough time to release a gut wrenching scream before the tendrils covered him completely and his vision went black. With nothing but pain as a reminder of his existence. As for Cyrus, he would wake to find his legs similarly bound and as he instinctively felt for his wand, his efforts were in vain. Only one thing was clear, if he didn't act soon Elias would be claimed by this evil.
Moderation Note: Elias is considered fully restrained and unable to speak or move, yet can attempt a strength check to break free. Cyrus is considered restrained, able to make a strength check to escape, and cannot locate his wand currently.

Dreams of airplanes and ducks filled Cyrus's mind as he dozed, his face pressed into his pillow and his snores muffled. Drool had piled next to his rosy cheeks on the fabric of his pillow. The still air in the wagon rattled with his heavy, deep breathing. Calm.

Then, weight. A suitcase? No, no. Backpack? Nuh-uh! Those were a different texture! It couldn't be!

Cyrus awoke with a wild gasp. He looked around himself, but he couldn't see much of anything, not even the aisle lights that lit up on planes. Where was the seat to exit in case of an emergency? Where was his window!? Why was there drool on his face!? He moved to wipe the drool from his cheek, but he couldn't move his arm! Ugh! Was this the dreaded sleep paralysis demon a Tumblr post had talked about!?

Well, weren't sleep paralysis demons incorporeal or something? And this was very, very real. Heavy, too. A weird texture. He opened his mouth and would have tried to taste the thing, but his horrible experience with carbon monoxide and icky smells came back to him, and he decided maybe not. He tried to tap his leg anxiously, but he couldn't, and that only made him even more anxious. He couldn't move. He couldn't even move. What was this thing!?

A gut-wrenching scream from across the room made his already-speedy heartbeat quicken. Elias!!! Oh no, oh, no, oh, no. Crikey. Blithering badgers! This was not good at all.

The thing had moved to mostly coalesce around his feet, which meant Cyrus's arms were flailing. He moved as much as he possibly could and used whatever lung capacity he could muster to yell. 'HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!'

The smacking of his hands against his bedding couldn't even locate his wand. With a huff, Cyrus would do his best to shove the stupid thing off of him so he could figure out what was going on with Elias.

Some morning this was shaping up to be!

Sightless. Elias was sightless. He couldn't hear himself scream, but he knew. He knew one burned through his throat and ripped into the air and he hoped it woke Cyrus and Lois and he hoped the crushing pain would stop and he hoped this wasn't what death felt like and everything smelled of smoke even though he hadn't seen anything burning and Elias couldn't breathe and he prayed he wasn't dying.

This was supposed to be a fun holiday getaway. This was supposed to be reuniting with Cyrus after his friend's first year graduated, was supposed to be his second international outing alone. It was supposed to be everything the thirteen year old dreamed of.

He'd arrived yesterday in high spirits. The Isle proved to be an incredible view, with colors Elias wasn't sure he'd ever seen before and a certain air about it which inspired excitement and awe. Probably a magical effect, or just Elias being Elias.

Lois continued to amaze him with just how easy she made things like this. No accidental run-ins or bumping-intos while his attention was elsewhere anymore, no danger to catch him by surprise. The boy would've tripped over her several times had she been smaller when she blocked him from stumbling straight into oncoming foot traffic. But she was not, which was great. Really, it was amazing. She got so many pets and praise from the clicker in his pocket.

And of course, there was Cyrus! School simply hadn't been the same without the elder boy there- hadn't been the same since October of last year, basically, but he's not focusing on all the other changes, just Cyrus.

Until this morning, Elias had been in high spirits. This trip had been shaping up to be something incredible.

Now he was screaming, and he couldn't see. The boy tried to move as he felt his face be covered completely by whatever was trapping the rest of him.

MODERATION
This was not how the peaceful reunion between two friends was supposed to be going. I mean after all, the opening ceremony had been so peaceful, so enchanting. Well deep black tendrils from the depths of the abyss was less of the idyllic paradise they had been promised. Perhaps that was why this side of the world was so hot even in winter, as apparently it could summon the very demons from hell. Unfortunately, the struggle was only at its beginning as the boys learned very quickly, for resisting this plant only enhanced their restraints.

@Cyrus Darsel had not followed his fellow graduates straight into the magical world in occupation. He was a free soul that chose art over the harrowing fights and survival tournament he had been put through during his school years. Such attempts to escape those seemed futile in these moments and now his younger friend was being mummified by evil plants. Desperate to save him he struggled at his own ensnarement attempting to pull his leg free from the vines but as he did they latched harder against his skin causing him to wince. Then the tendrils grew forward like a snake wrapping up to his waist pulling him down to the floor with Elias. In the haze and pain he still failed to locate his wand and now he too was being dragged towards the door.

As for the younger @Elias Travers he would not go without complete help. Pushing himself desperately against the binds around him he felt the painful twisting of them constricting him until he felt he could barely breathe. Whatever was happening to him it was anything but the fun he had longed for. For a moment the darkness bled away though as a patch of the plant was seemingly ripped away from his eye. Looking up he saw the desperate, adoring eyes of Lois biting and digging away parts of the plant determined to free him. While her efforts would go in vain he couldn't help but fall a little more in love with her. Then the darkness returned and he felt himself being pulled further away. Unable to even see Cyrus he wondered if his friend shared the same fate and what that fate seemed to be. After all, if it wanted to kill him, and it seemed like it could, where was it taking him?

What the freak!

The silly little vines wouldn't budge. At first, Cyrus chuckled, feeling much like a super spy in a movie. Who was he? The name was Darsel. Cy Darsel. He did his best to flex his biceps even in the grip of the vines, except then he remembered that Elias was in trouble, and the panic returned stronger than before. He couldn't get distracted! This was important!

Oh, stars, what would Elias's parents think if he lost him?? He'd be the most irresponsible older brother figure ever, and that was one thing he couldn't do.

And Elias wouldn't even be able to hear him call out.

Nonononono, he thought, panicked, as the vines honed in on him. If being 6'3" couldn't save him from evil plants, what could!? They pulled at his waist, and in his panic, he would start throwing whatever strength he had at them. He hoped he could hit the floor with a little extra oomph to disable some of the vines, although he doubted that would happen. If he bit the plants, would they break? Or, what if he turned into a duck and flew away?

He thought about it for a second but then continued to smack, hammerfist and shove the vines, struggling as much as he could to make their job harder. He would have to be free first so that he could help Elias, because, well, writhing on the floor wasn't helping anyone.

FINAL MODERATION OF PART ONE
Standing in for Lawrence in this moderation round to end part 1 of the event!
The pair of American boys were certain to face doom. Perhaps @Elias Travers had thought he would be safe if he stayed with an adult, certain to be easily protected if anything went wrong, but this particular adult (@Cyrus Darsel) seemed to freeze up after his failure to break free earlier. Both boys were dragged into the darkness, and as if satisfied with their kidnapped charges, the vines shrunk back into nothingness and vanished seemingly into thin air. If only they could have stayed standing to proceed to part two and meet up with the other residents of the Traveller Wagons and the Rumah Adat...

Edit: I'm an idiot. Rolled for Elias, not Cyrus, even though Cyrus had posted. Well, we'll take the roll (2) that I gave to Elias (who didn't try to break free) + Cyrus's strength of 10, he was DC 23 as an eighth year, so he did not succeed anyway! End result is the same, both boys are dragged off.
This part of the event has concluded. Your character can proceed to the optional part two if they want, or you can stop your participation and be glad you escaped!
The thread will remain open if you want to post a reaction/exit post, but no more moderations will be conducted here.
