Quidditch Training Pitch

Rosaline was walking toward the Quidditch Training Pitch. Her steps were brisk because she was so excited to participate in this game. It wasn’t a usual unofficial Quidditch game. It gave Rosaline a chance to team up with and against higher-year students, as well as international students. The ball season was coming and students abroad could visit Hogwarts. As she thought about the fall ball, her face flushed a rosy pink. She shook her head and kept walking.

She quickly made her way to the pitch. Most of the players were already there. Rosaline waved to everyone with a big smile. A little bit worrying if she was late, yet it seemed she still had a little time left. Holding her Comet 180, she joined her teammates. Excited but also nervous. Her fingers drummed on the side of her trousers. Looking around, she didn’t think she knew a lot of people here. She could recognize a few people. Some she could see were international students, some she might have them on the campus before.

Before the game started, their referee announced something they should be aware of. Not long after, the game started. As the whistle blew, she walked to the bench. She couldn’t wait to see how the game would turn out.

Mamori still hadn't quite figured out how he'd ended up as co-captain. The concept of two undersized kids leading a team where half the members were at least a head taller than them was the kind of ridiculous scenario that, if they somehow managed to win, "Led International Quidditch Team at Age 12" would make for excellent resume conversation fodder well into his midlife crisis.

When he'd first joined, the roster had been full of unfamiliar faces except for Landon. Well, the tallest one whose student status appeared to be a side gig to his primary occupation of collecting protection money seemed vaguely familiar, probably from some booth at summer camp, but that hardly counted as knowing someone.

This presented a problem for demonstrating his superior commanding abilities, so he did what any sane person would do and recruited the two most reliable people he could think of who wouldn't refuse orders, had deep pockets and, most importantly, already owned fancy brooms. Maisie and Damien were the perfect candidates. That last criterion mattered more than he'd ever admit out loud, because there's absolutely scientific evidence that riding a 150+ galleon broom makes you smarter, more confident, and improves your aim.

As was his custom for most sporting events, Mamori arrived fashionably late again but still within acceptable parameters, just in time to catch the referee's refreshingly honest opening remarks about how she wasn't allergic to rule-breaking as long as she didn't actually witness it. After returning Maisie's wave with equal minimalism, he made a beeline for the bench, a position he'd specifically arranged for himself — not because he was terrible enough that he deserved to be a substitute, but because he had a generous spirit and believed in sharing opportunities. Having learned early in second year that he'd been promoted from 2nd string to starter on Hufflepuff Quid team, he'd decided it was practically his moral obligation to let people who'd never experienced starter privileges, whether ever or just on their usual house teams, taste that glory in unofficial matches. The fact that this also banked favors for future use was merely a happy coincidence.

Case in point, the birb (@Damien Dragonclaw) currently occupying said bench and chatting away with Landon despite being assigned to the starting lineup. Mamori waved him off with a shooing motion. "Oi Damien, shift it. You're supposed to be airborne by now, not blocking my armchair strategist throne."

Ah, some nice British weather. Perhaps others would find it off-putting, but Silas really didn’t mind, too used to it for it to bother him anymore — he hardly even noticed the droplets that were falling on his hair and arms. There were some who said that Englishmen played better in the rain, anyway, and if that was true, it should carry over to Quidditch, too, so maybe it was a good thing that it was raining.

Not long after he walked over to the gathered group, Silas was unexpectedly addressed by the older girl he assumed was acting as the referee for this game, his gaze fixing on the redhead as she said, “… and you as well Mister Norwood.” Silas stiffened slightly, a frown appearing on his face faster than he could consciously react. “It’s Silas. Mister Norwood’s me dad,” he corrected with distaste as he moved away from her as much as he could, exhaling slowly.

That was new. What kind of teenager called preteens “miss” and “mister” anyway??? They weren’t businessmen, they were just kids — another aspect of the culture here that was unbelievably weird. He had been addressed or referred to as Norwood many, many times since being at this school, which was already something that required adjustment. But Mr. Norwood? That was far more uncomfortable for him. That title, in his mind, was reserved for his family members — namely, his father and grandfather. Neither were good men; neither were men he particularly liked. He didn’t want to think about them. Not ever, really, but especially not when he was about to participate in a sports game.

Distractions soon came, though. Everyone’s clothes were being transformed into uniforms to more clearly separate the two teams. That better be reversible, Silas thought with a scowl as he looked at the changes to his own attire. Laughter that was quickly becoming all too recognisable erupted close by and Silas spun around to face Oonagh, sending a dark glare and a not-so-nice hand gesture her way. “Oh, fuck off. A’ leas’ the purple’s decen’ enough. Could’ve been worse.” After a brief pause, he shoved her, just for good measure.

He wasn’t listening to the introductory speech as it began. Rules were boring, and he reckoned that he knew enough of the basics by now, anyway — this was the second unofficial Quidditch game to which Oonagh had dragged him, so he at least had some properly applicable experience under his belt this time. Nevertheless, it was hard not to pay attention when cheating was mentioned — not that he would eeeeever cheat, though, of course not. “As for cheating… anything goes so long as you are not caught.” A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips and he turned slightly, catching Oonagh’s gaze and sharing a knowing look.

During all of this, he hardly spared a glance at the girls he already knew on the opponent team. Honestly, they were kind of irrelevant to him. They were weak, and he and his team would beat them, and that was the end of it. Cocky as ever, he took to the sky, hopefully ready for whatever was to come.

𝔄s the quaffle tossed from Evelynn's hand to signal the start of the game, neither team wasted any time in trying to outmaneuver their opponents for an early advantage. Immediately noticeable was the liveliness upon the benches. Cheers and hollers could be heard from both sets of benched players as they tried to impart encouraging words to their teammates. In particular, Pritchard of Team One and Kohana and Brown of Team Two seemed to attract the majority of the well-wishes, surely feeling a wash of luck or aptitude. Not all among the bench were quite so exuberant, however. Annwyn and Everhart could be seen with their heads together, quietly discussing the game as it unfolded above them. Such attention to the plays would certainly give each of them an edge when it came to be their time to join the fray.

aving been entirely upfront during her preamble prior to the game's start, Evelynn kept her gaze peeled. As much as she enjoyed watching a good volley of bludgers, or to marvel at the slick maneuvering of chasers as they moved the quaffle up the field, her role in this moment was to monitor for ne'er-do-wellers, and monitor she did. Keen eyed and experienced on the pitch in her own right, the seventh-year carefully panned her attention from player to player, observing from the midst of the chaos for any signs of early foul-play. None would present itself. Or if there had been any subtle cheating, such as pocking of the quaffle or cobbing of a seeker, she didn't catch it.

𝔗he search to uncover any subterfuge would, however, not in itself be absent of any interest. Quidditch, Evelynn had found, was one of those sports wherein one could never quite predict how it might unfold. There had been games in her past where the plays were fairly elementary, each player sticking to the expected functions of their roles: the keeper in the hoops, beaters batting for bludgers, seekers hunting for the snitch, and chasers all competing amongst themselves as though in a massive battle royale for possession of the quaffle. And there were times when the most basic element of the game—scoring upon the goals for points—was neglected in its entirety.

Today's game seemed to fall somewhere on the spectrum. Both teams had deployed a more offensive strategy, neither choosing to guard their hoops. Yet where one team had left the responsibility of the quaffle to poor little Miss Gemmell, the other had dedicated three of their members, including Morris, whom Evelynn could have sworn they had collectively chosen to be their seeker. That deviation from hunting for the snitch was enough to turn her head at one point, but what kept her temporarily distracted from her hunt for shenaniganery was the fact that Team One's players actually seemed to be coordinating.

Brows rose in pleasant surprise as she watched—time after time with every reset and toss of the quaffle back at center—how Pritchard and Rocier didn't so much as attempt to gain control of the quaffle for themselves, but rather guarding the quaffle from falling into opposing possession and redirecting it to a single player evidently appointed as the one to score on the goal. What a concept. In fact, Evelynn found her eye trailing more frequently after Pritchard, increasingly impressed by what was turning out to be a very reliable and frankly dominant performance on his part. It occurred to her in that moment that despite being close in years (she knew him to share a year with McCowan and Mozor), she had never paid him much mind before now..

Not that this strategy didn't have its own inherent risk. She watched several times as Damien attempted to insert himself into the contest and intercept a pass. While he remained unsuccessful in interrupting their efforts, Evelynn had to give him silent credit for being so very on the ball in his attempts.

Still, time after time, not-quite-so-little-anymore Morris would ultimately be seen with the quaffle tucked safely under his arm, barreling down the pitch towards unguarded posts, quaffle easily soaring through the open hoops to trigger that resonant DING! Within what felt like no time at all, Team One had netted themselves a tidy 50 points.

t was definitely a viable strategy, what Team One seemed to be going for. If command of the quaffle could be absolute, the points earned by quick quaffle turn-arounds could quite easily overwhelm the opposition if not checked. Still, there was no denying just how many points the snitch contributed to a score, and if a team's seeker could be even swifter, well, there was hardly a thing that could be done about it.

Where Team One seemed to have abandoned any attempts to find the snitch (unless Morris happened to be exceptionally devious and was hunting while also repeatedly sinking the quaffle), Team Two appeared to take a more reliable route. Midorimori could be seen flying about the pitch, successfully avoiding involvement in any of the more serious skirmishes and seemingly left to their own devices, free to hunt for the little golden snitch in peace. While they would find no immediate success on that front, it would only be a matter of time.

ad Evelynn slept on Quidditch? It was true that it had now been several years since she had stepped down from captaincy and withdrawn from the sport entirely in favour of the more practical and career-applicable dueling. Still, she had made some efforts to maintain her attendance at the games, especially as her friendship with @Aly Salinger had more recently blossomed. But perhaps her attendance had waned some, turning exclusively to Ravenclaw's matches...

As it was, she barely had a moment to reset and toss a new round of quaffle each time it was sunk before her attention would be commanded to what had quickly blossomed into what felt like outright war on the pitch. She had seen powerful strikes before. Quidditch on a team with and as well as frequently facing off against part-giants brought with it no shortage of canon-ball like assaults. Still, never before had she been witness to quite such a volley. From Aveline's skillful attack that easily unseated Gemmell, to Kohana's just as deft evasion and clever use of broom to rebound, to Gagné's swift interception to redirect the rebounded quaffle onto a new trajectory that very nearly unseated Team Two's young Miss Brown, it was evident very early on that the talent on display was on a tier of its own.

Had it always been this way, and she could only now appreciate the nuances so close as she was to the action? Or had the international confrontations at the multitude of summer camps pushed the various institutions to rise above? Either way, gooseflesh began to prickle at Evelynn's skin as adrenaline rose and a long forgotten ache settled into her core as the action continued to unfold. Given the circumstances of the impromptu pick-up game, the teamwork between Brown and Kohana was particularly impressive as they lined up and rocketed a bludger towards Aveline.

Not even Gagné's swift intervention would be enough to alter that ironclad pathing, the ball connecting with its target with a sickening crunch that was all but drowned by a veritable explosion of splinters as the the bludger claimed not only the player, but his broom as well. And somehow, it retained enough momentum to carry on towards another. Felix wouldn't succumb to the ricochet, however, the dedicated attention towards the barely conscious Aveline providing her enough advanced awareness to evade, though only barely.

𝔓erhaps in an attempt to take advantage of the madness, both Matthews and Norwood would insert themselves into the scene. On the one hand, credit could be given to the bravery of their attempts as one would have to display a clear aptitude for flight in order to navigate the bludgers and exact their plans to unseat their targets. On the other hand... stupidity. They weren't even particularly crafty about it. Evelynn's lips drew to a pursed line as first Matthews beelined in towards Felix. Having just narrowly avoided joining her teammate at the fate of a bone-crushing connection with a bludger, her defenses must have been on high alert for she easily avoided the collision.

"MATTHEWS." Although several years her junior, she was aware of his existence courtesy of quidditch. He and his team had played against—and lost to—Aly and the Eagles last Spring. "Did I or did I not say to be clever about your cheating," Evelynn chided, the volume of her voice still magically amplified. "You were as subtle as the giant at the Athanatos wedding, and not nearly as terrifying. PENALTY LAP for you."

Seemingly not to be outdone, none other than Norwood would also make his attempt. His time on as the Headliner's EIC had been more than enough to demonstrate his abrasive incompetence, but even Evelynn had to stop herself from gawking in disbelief at this particular brash display. Executed with flawless idiocy, she could only marvel as he attempted to blatantly unseat Gagné, only to botch the attempt and scuff himself up in the process.

"Ah yes... Mister Norwood..." Rather colourful sentiments poised themselves, barbed on the tip of her tongue. What a shame it is that your family was not here to be able to witness that masterful execution. Did they teach you that the ends justify the means? Or was there simply not enough matter between the ears to bother teaching you at all? But he was a child, she reminded herself, and six years her junior. As infuriating as the insolent boy could be at times, she fought off the intrusive thoughts as well as the sarcastic smirk that threatened to split her expression, instead fixing him with a look of pity. "I trust I need not remind you that you must fly a penalty lap for that. Although I almost regret saying so... Salting the wound and all that..."

𝔚aving her hand dismissively in the general direction of Norwood and Matthews to encourage them to speed off upon their respective penalty laps, Evelynn returned her attention to the game at large just in time to see that the two falling entities had safely been pulled from their freefall. Although Machavariani had been dutifully patrolling for such time that she would be needed to save Felix, that time had not yet come. Instead, Felix had safely pulled Aveline onto her broom, though without a broom to which to return, he would find himself temporarily stranded. Elsewhere, Dragonclaw had peeled himself off from his attempts to intercept quaffles in order to spare Gemmell an earthly landing.

𝔚ithin mere moments, the game had gotten off to an exciting start. Points were on the board, players were directed to complete laps, and each team had suffered near casualties as players from both sides of the pitch were forced to double-up. If there was one thing that could be said about the match, it was that it certainly didn't look like a low-stakes pick-up game. And in that moment, Evelynn decided that by the time the snitch was caught, she would have to have come up with some way to reward their collective efforts.

OOC INFORMATION
x — return to the opening moderation post for a full list of rules and guidelines

— this is an unofficial quidditch game (there will be no house points or stat increases rewarded to the winning team)

— reminder: players must abide by all site rules, including the 200 word count post requirement

— if ever you notice an error in my moderating (I am very rusty!) please don't hesitate to reach out to me. My DMs/owls are always open for questions and communication

there has been a recent Quidditch Patch. Please familiarize yourself with the changes as they will be immediately implemented

— a note about Transfer Broom: as announced on the servers, the current majority consensus from the quidditch captains is that Saviour interacts with Transfer Broom in the same way that it does Return to Broom. That is to say, that it makes it a Free Action if they have also taken the Save action in that same round

All the times she'd been up here, in front of these hoops, she'd been a Keeper—not a Chaser. What compelled her to try and do someone else's job was uncertain. It was almost like there had been some strange whisper in the wind.

Yeah, that was it: the strange eternal whisper of failure. Suddenly, that sinking feeling she had every time she stepped up onto the duelling piste set in: she'd let them down as a Keeper and for no good reason. The other team was ahead and it was all her fault. Biting down she felt herself bite in lower lip in frustration.

Her head turned nostalgically towards the hoops, eager to take her proper place again and try to right the situation when the whoosh of a bludger signalled something very bad indeed. Maisie was normally quick to react—so, perhaps it was the guilt?—but she couldn't swerve out of the way in time as the bludger collided spot on into her stomach.

And for a second, everything went black as she winced.

Around her she could feel the air racing, moving a thousand paces fast. She didn't know wind could rush so quickly. And inside, all she could feel was dread of hitting the grass with a couple dozen bones.

But that didn't come. With a thud, she found her leg twist around something else. And blinking, she saw it to be a broom. It took a few seconds, but she sat up and took a breath. Soon, she saw a housemate come into focus. She didn't know him particularly well, but she'd never been so happy to see him—or anyone—in her entire life. "Damien," she started before looking down at the ground and back, "I—you saved me. Thank you. Thanks a lot. I thought I was going to end up in the Hospital Wing."

She took a moment to re-plait her hair and just breathe.

Louca found himself unable to stay still. It was a physical impossibility when he was used to being in the action, and able to at least try to change the outcome of the game. Being on the ground was certainly a different experience, but one he would take advantage of.

Deciding jumping jacks were just the thing to warm him up and keep from trying to make his directions heard above, he moved to the side of the bench and began jumping around. They weren’t really stationary and he may have thrown in a random lunge or cartwheel, but he was sure that anyone that knew him would not be surprised.

That didn’t keep him from cheering on his teammate Sarah, hoping to give her a boost of some sort because oof, when the other team scored, he wished he could do more. But he was doing what he could, cheering and making sure he did what he could. Meanwhile he got closer to those who were also on the bench, and said “Bit different being down here, eh? But I’m excited. It’s a different view than being right in the middle of things.”

Bringing his hands out of his pockets once more, he blew on them, rubbing them together, and keeping an eye on the sky, ready to do what he could to support his teammates while keeping his feet firmly on the ground, and his broom nearby just in case.

Soaring idly while observing the skies for any falling teammates – though keeping most of her efforts focused on the older students of her team – meant Livia had plenty of time to also see how the rest of the game was going. This left her with quite a lovely view. Their team had strategised quite wonderfully, and such intelligence was now paying off in an incredibly cathartic physical resolution. Although Livia was too focused to smile, she could not help but appreciate this serendipitous occurrence.

The dings echoing from the stands as Quaffle points were scored again and again were like music to Livia's ears. Better yet, though, was how horrifically Norwood had blundered his blatch. Livia uttered a small tsk despite herself, utterly pleased to see how the boy's efforts had failed. Had he consisted, even ten percent, of a normal human being, surely that would have taught him not to be so obvious; however, considering Norwood was more greasy, pizza-eating rat than human, Livia doubted it would have such an effect.

So engrossed was she in thinking up insults for Norwood, that she was not quick enough to save the falling Raphael from his fate. Luckily, though, the swift hand of fortune (otherwise known as Katherine 'Kit' Felix) swooped in to save the day. Livia eyed the broom-bround duo, intrigued, and let her gaze travel back to where Raphael had fallen from. No broom – only splinters caught in the rain. Livia blinked and wiped water off her forehead with her gloved hand, sighing as that only made the sensation worse. At least she had tied back her hair.

Aziza gripped her hands tightly in front of her as she watched the game play out, a slight shiver running through her. The young girl was in slight awe at the game, attempting to follow the players with her eyes bright as they swiftly moved around the pitch. She hated to admit she had a bit of interest in Quidditch. Sports were never something she had considered, yet there was something so interesting about this one.

Seeing movement out of the corner of her eyes, Aziza glanced over. She was slightly distracted by one of the other players on the bench. He was moving around quite a bit, to Aziza it seemed that he was enjoying the game even more than she was. Sure, the girl was cheering her team on, but it was nothing compared to the older boy.

"Is it always this....exciting?" Aziza asked no one in particular. She was not certain 'exciting' was the correct word to use, but it was the first thing that came to her mind when it came to describing the game. Things were fast paced and constantly moving, being a bit difficult to try and keep track of everything that was going on. The young girl was trying her best, though.

Damien just smiled at Maisie as he looked at the fellow Ravenclaw, besides being in the same house they were also both teammates unofficial and officially on the pitch so he would have saved her regardless. He was honestly lucky he managed to save her in time as for a second he thought he wasn’t going to catch her in time.

“It’s absolutely alright and was no problem Maisie we’re temstes after all! Plus I couldn’t imagine someone being stuck in the hospital wing after a match so I wouldn’t want anyone to experience that!” He gave her a smile to help reassure her as honestly he can imagine taking a fall off of a broom could be scary so it would probably do some good to reassure her.

“Plus hey I promise everything will be alright! So catch your breath for a few moments then let get you back on your broom! As I believe in you so we got this!” If anyone hadn’t met Damien yet they would see his positive sunshine attitude shine though whenever he spoke and while sometimes he was truly that positive sometime he wasn’t which seemed to be happening more and more, but he knew the world wasn’t just going to stop because of him having a bad day so he kept pushing trying to encourage others and that’s what he planned to do on the qudditch pitch.

Prev Round = Oonagh & Ginyami
. "Oh it be ye! From simmer, when we crushed ye intae the dirt!"

"H-hai ..yes.. " Sara nervously nodded, hardly understanding a word she said by instict. Simmer? Isn't that... water boiling..?? Intae? Sara understood only some of those words seperately! Glancing a little helplessly at Ginyami as he was being talked to as well. Blinking in confusion at the response the other choose to give. Did he understand what she was saying? The other was much more profficient in English. Just another thing Sara was in awe of. His anxiety dimmed a little as the other spoke Japanese once more, as if sensing already he had felt out of place when the other spoke … interesting english. A small smile found its back back to his face for a second before returning the boy, repeated the phase gently. Then adding a shy thank you, before getting into position.

Current Round

Just as the first round started, he almost lost focus - feeling flustered at the loud cheering his captain and Louca were doing for him. He had only gotten used to the game recently, but the cheering for him always caught him off guard. If he managed to meet the gaze of his cheerers, if they were watching him in particular - he would give a brief bow out of gratitude before sharply focusing on the game once more. Sara's mind was immediately put to work, wincing as the bludger that he had intended for the opposing team angled towards his own teammates instead.

Oonagh
His eyesbrows furrowed in worry, softening to a mixture of awe and concern over his in-game captain. She was… a lot more relisiant than he was - wow. " A- are you okay??" he managed to say when he was near her vicinities.

Ginyami
There was just… so many things happening in the game. The next target of Sara's concern was Ginyami, who seemed - pretty chill. He used to be a popular target during games, Sara felt relief seeing him still on his broom instead of the ground.

Maisie and Damien
He winced seeing his other teammate almost fall, though thanks to another, she was saved. Sara would'nt get the chance to immediately go to them considering the game was still going on. But if he managed to pass them, Damien and Maizel would hear a brief, gruff, yet somewhat shy, " Nice one", referring to both of them - from the beater before they focused back on the game.
Abilities

|| Terrible Presence || Lovely Creature || Fearless || Evasive Maneuvers I || Rebound | || Evasive Maneuvers II

Stats + Broom : Oakshaft

In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice at disadvantage (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself). Ricochet damage is 75% of the original hit.

In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.

In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.
