Emma had no clue what was going on. Her world was dark and she had a new appreciation for anyone who was properly blind. She didn’t even feel like she could depend on her hearing as she couldn’t tell where anyone was with any ease. Panicking she tried to move the storm away from them, just to avoid dealing with potential lightning or thunder. But that even failed. She went from extreme frustration to sadness in an instant. At least the blindfold was good for one thing, hiding any tears that slipped out.

It had not been enough. Something out there truly disliked these duelists. Well, maybe all but Matthew.

EmmaLee would suffer the worst failure amongst the five duelists. A critically failed flipendo would knock the wind out of the poor lass. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you had Matthew, who would - yet again - create the textbook perfect Flipendo. The rest's casts were less exciting. Ara would throw a spongify down piste, while Draven worked on splitting a flipendo for the two Badgers left. And Emma would conjure a confringo. Couldn't have a break on anyone's ears, now could we?

And while said confringo would miss Draven, the shrapnel of a torn up piste would catch him once again. A solid strategy from a blind duelist. Or was she blind? Draven's first flipendo would be easily side stepped by Emma - as if she'd known it was coming. The next would veer wildly off course, and aim for her again. And while she wouldn't do it as smoothly, she would manage to dodge. Though, third time was the charm as they said - Matthew's perfect little bundle of force would find Emma, and knock her to the ground. Gyle worried he'd need to call the mediwizard, but movement from the Badger made him pause. And while he tried his best to tell if he should call a pause, EmmaLee would dodge Ara's attempt at spongification.

Things were looking bleak for the Badgers. The only saving grace they'd get would be a lack of lightning this round. Could victory be clutched from the jaws of defeat?

Flirting was already annoying, but when it affected people's ability to finish this duel to a successful degree, then it was infuriating. After all these seniors were meant to be responsible and mature, how could they fail to regulate their emotions to such a degree that they made themselves look like firsties. Matt wouldnt use the word embarrassing, but he'd certainly think it.

Still, once again his shot has not only gone off with ease but with vivid perfection. As it turned out he supposed life was giving him a small break for once, as a first. The young snake was not about to ponder over it, after all, he was just happy to not be in ill favour of bad luck for once. Truly it made him feel the slightest flash of accomplishment; a feeling he so rarely experienced.

Whatever happened now, Matthew was proud of himself. Proud to be a viper and have the bite he had always dreamed of. The outcast would never feel at home in Slytherin, but at the very least he could feel like he had made a difference. The mass of purebloods would never award him the victory, but that didn't mean he couldn't accept it himself. Matthew was an unconventional slytherin, but perhaps he had fangs more natural than he thought.

"I probably wouldn't be fucking up if you weren't snapping at me," Draven replied, watching as another spell sputtered out. For Merlin's sake.

He'd been doing good- well, not good, exactly, but better. Certainly better than he was now.

His insides were starting to squirm, each failure stacking up and threatening to tip over, crush him with their weight.

Well, doing nothing was one way to escape some bad luck.

Gyle was not quite sure what had happened. Did they think Emma was unconscious? Wait was she? He had sworn he'd seen some breathing after that last flipendo had taken her down. He would squint over at the blindfolded and collapsed badger as a viper boy squabbled with his teammates.

It took a moment, but he saw movement. Her chest moving up and down to indicate life that was, not movement amongst the duelists. Did he need to intervene? Maybe they just needed a breather after all of those explosions. The storm clouds ominous crackles would snap Gyle back to reality - hopefully it would do the same for the duelists.

A beat of silence passed. Around him, the duellists had stopped to breathe, a singular moment of peace shared on the stage.

Draven straightened up, rolling his shoulders back to dislodge the tension trapped in his muscles. His head was starting to clear. The match looked to be about over, with Emma^2 on their last breath.

Careful not to look in his teammates' direction, Draven took aim for what he hoped would be the final time.

what in the hell had just happened. It was like all of the duellists had fallen under some kind of trance as every single one of them perplexingly forgot to cast. Maybe it was the underlying feelings of guilt at hurting the group so badly, or perhaps it was just a temporary moment of insanity. Still Matthew was not hoping to repeat it again, after all, he had been performing at top form for the majority of this duel, and would not be satisfied until it was resolved.

Readying his stance and clearing his mind of any strange notions of forgetfulness he pointed his wand back towards his opponents and reminded himself that this was all in good sport. Each and every one of them had signed up for this, and while they always hoped for better outcomes on their side, it was a risk you took when you stepped onto the piste. It was no more fault his than their own.
