Day 2 - Afternoon slot
Amelia and Eonaria, in the wake of igniting and disarming each other, respectively, took the moment to regroup. Amelia looked around for her wand, finding luck on her side and the wand only a few short steps away, soon comfortably back in her hand. Eonaria had no interest in staying on fire, not in the literal sense, so she incanted a neat Extinguo to spare herself more burning.

Overall, though, this was not a moment for regrouping. Hufflepuff was after Cassian, perhaps looking to end his streak of fiery terror, twin harsh blue-colored jinxes zipping across the stage at him. The third Hufflepuff had finally regained their composure after the backfire, hitting him solidly in the leg, but Verity's spell veered wide, cutting through the dissipating fog but easily avoided by Cassian.

Cassian was doing more of the same. If it worked, why change it? This time his efforts to set Verity on fire wouldn't work, though, the move so predictable that Verity was finally ready for it, moving fast enough even as she was generally slowing down. Being on fire took a lot out of you. The third Gryffindor would similarly opt for fire but target Amelia instead, timing their cast perfectly so they struck as Amelia bent down to scoop up her wand. The fire didn't catch, luckily for Amelia, but she would feel it for a moment scorching her arm.

Finally, I thought as I watched my spell disappear into the fog. For the first time since the duel started, my spell-casting was successful. No backfiring, no nothing. An actual spell. I grinned. We were still in a tough spot, but this was better than what we had been doing before.

Took Vera too long to finally dodge a series of Fire-Making Spells, but she did it. Her clothes had also finally stopped burning.

The fog had finally lifted. On one hand, it was great because now Hufflepuff could all see their opponents. On the other hand, this was bad for them because now Gryffindor had nothing stopping their aggressive aim. But, well, if she hadn't dropped dead yet, then there was still a chance. A low chance, but still a chance.

My spell lands and, although the effect isn't as damaging as I hoped, I have finally done something. I smile and straighten, a bit more content with myself than I had been before. I am now a lot more useful than I was just a few seconds ago, and there is a thrill in my veins at landing a spell. I can not wait to repeat it and get this feeling back.

The panic that has hit the young Hufflepuff disintegrates once more as logic once more overcomes the girl. With a slightly shaky poise and a hint of desperation, the girl hastily retrieves her wand. It is a rather large relief her beloved wand is only a couple of steps away, and she is successful in regaining it.

Luck, however, doesn’t last for quite as long as Amelia might have hoped. One of the Gryffindor duelists aims yet another spell at the small girl, and to her great frustration it hits her perfectly. The fire making spell, well of course they had to return the favor! Amelia had been perfectly happy hitting the lion with a spell, but receiving one? Not so much. Especially a spell that had a more physical impact. However not all luck had disintegrated, and unlike her previous victim, she did not remain alight. Glowering towards the opposing team, she decided one thing. They were going to win. Maybe not today, because while Amelia was hoping, it didn’t look all too bright. But one day.

It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!

XXXEonaria quickly extinguished herself with a sigh of relief. She didn’t want to deal with any of that. Although the Hufflepuffs had decided to go after Cassian now, she thought they might be winning, which was quite exciting. The last of the fog faded away, and she noticed that one of the Hufflepuffs had a rather intimidating expression on her face. Eonaria shivered slightly. That was the look of someone determined to turn the tides. If not today, then perhaps later in the year.

Day 2 - Afternoon slot
This was the moment to regroup, maybe. That or a collective stutter, no one except the third Hufflepuff entirely sure what to do. There were some good ideas, Verity watching the Gryffindor with a mind for self-preservation and maybe some of the Gryffindors doing the same. Amelia tried to join her teammate to make a two-pronged attack on Cassian, but she stumbled over casting the Knockback Jinx, finding a blank in her brain where all the details should be and stopping before it could backfire disastrously.

That made the only stage-crossing spell the Tarantallegra from the third Hufflepuff, who had finally found their footing and was making the most of it to help their team. With the well-placed charm, Cassian started moving through the steps of a silent ballet with more or less of the associated grace. Aislin scrunched her nose, trying to tell if everyone looked okay. Had something happened that she hadn't seen? "We're at the halfway point," she told them, hoping that would spur some movement.

Things were looking up for me, just a little bit. After all, this was now the second spell (in a row, even!) that was successful and hit my target! It was sort of strange, though, that the other team hadn't done anything. Stage fright, maybe? I could relate, considering I'd done just that in the beginning.

Vera readied herself for a barrage of attacks. Considering how battered she was, there was no doubt that a few more hits would knock her unconscious. So, the seemingly reasonable thing to do was to actively dodge as much as she could. Of course, it meant she wasn't exactly productive with attacking any of the opposing team, but, should the action go right, she would last for at least another round.

It all sounded like a decent idea, had Gryffindor not stood there, casting nothing at them at all. Now Vera just looked like someone who hadn't figured out what she wanted to do for this next round. She sighed. What a missed opportunity.
