Snuggles & Stitches
November 15th, 2025
The chill of winter seems to be hanging in the air, and what better way to keep warm than some yarn crafts? A gathering was organized for students of all skill levels to complete their needlework. Crocheting, knitting, and weaving all are welcome. With books on the basics of many different forms of fiber arts, students are invited to begin on blankets, sweaters, scarves, hats, and many more— there are stuffed animals and beanbags present for a more comforting atmosphere as well. Ideally, this will help them stay warm for the frosty months up ahead!
Taking place in the Small Hall, the lighting arrangement was rather dim, and so to compensate, candles were placed at each table, providing a comforting atmosphere as the students would work on their crafts. Sitting beside the candles were baskets of yarn, accompanied by various hooks, needles, and other essential materials crucial to their work. Alyss, a short Slytherin prefect, could be found wandering between the collections of tables that had been set up, offering guidance and encouragement to anyone that needed the helpful words and nods of the second year. Should the individual prefer to do their stitching upon a different seat, there are beanbags in the spot closest to the fireplace, sitting with a collection of stuffed animals to snuggle with whilst working.
Students are encouraged to create something of their choosing— however, if they’re unsure of where to begin, there are a few pattern books lying open, with suggestions for magnificent crafts. As a reward for their efforts, those in attendance will hopefully gain the companionship of like-minded people and a beautifully stitched final product to call their own.
This thread is a mass thread corresponding to the errand Snuggles & Stitches. Please find the details and sign up for this errand here.
Snuggles & Stitches

Colin scootched the door to the Small Hall open with his toe. Carefully he drew Naur-an-Edraith from his sheath strapped around Colin's right arm. Snuggles and Stitches the advert said. Colin knew all about snuggles on account of Emmi. A brief smile played about his lips. The mere thought of the girl made his heart leap! He sniffed at the cracked open door. "Ye never know when something dark and eldritch will come boiling out of the stones, right?"
A hand braced Colin's shoulder. His brother's wand appeared by Colin's ribs. If there was anything at all evil hiding among the threads and yarns and other paraphernalia of the weaver's craft, Colin and Liam would attack boldly! "Also," Colin heard the very soft whisper in his ear; "Ye never know something quick and Emmi-shaped will come rushing out of nowhere for a Hufflesnug!"
"I--- What?" Colin turned his head slightly, giving Liam a brief side glance.
"A Hufflesnug! Don't ye pay any attention lad?" Liam bapped Colin smartly on the back of his head. "Ah, Cail. I reckon ye're too engrossed in minutely examining those --- how did ye put it last time? --- gorgeous and breathtaking sunset eyes?" Liam sniggered. Colin gave a soft growl as they inched the door more open. No one here yet! The place had clearly been well thought out and planned.
"But, I'm not sure about this, Cail..." The pair stepped into the room, checking anything suspicious in the room. "I--- She won't think it awkward?"
"Liam! She's your friend! She'll absolutely adore it!" After checking the room, Colin lowered his wand slightly. He sniffed the air delicately. "Nothing untoward here!"
Liam nodded. "Yet, anyway. Ye know how even simple events like this turn chaotic."
"Mm. True that! Could be something magical, right?" Liam nodded his agreement. "Revelio!" Colin cast. "Can never be too careful! Especially where Emmi is concerned! I swear Liam, I shall always defend her!"

Action: Casting revelio in case there's anything sus in the room!

Another shiver rocked through Emily when the cold in the corridors nipped at her skin, her body trembling at the invasion of something frozen and sharp stinging through her body heat. She was bundled up the best she could, a coat over her jumper, over her cardigan, over her base-layer with two pairs of socks underneath one of the many long skirts she had in her wardrobe. This was probably one of the more colder snaps she had ever been exposed to, and that was saying a lot coming from Hogwarts. For the longest time, she thought Belfast to be incontestable when it came to the chilly winter seasons.
Despite the numbness of the season, Emily thought winter her favourite out of the yearly cycle. Long dark mornings. Long dark evenings. The chill in the air, while having a knack for nibbling her fingers until ice blue, provided a strange warmth at the same time. A comfortable chill, even if deathly when without a layer to protect oneself with. And the moon! Watching her friend from beyond the stars gave the Huffie the most peace during winter. Prominent. Beautiful. And profoundly warm when hypnotised.
Though she knew why he wouldn't, she would still do whatever she could to get Colin to join her on a full moon for one of the many nightly walks she took in the forest. Waiting until the holidays for what was feeling like a once in a lifetime endeavour wasn't enough. The moon connected them that day at Tesla's home. She wanted to feel that connection again with him in his human guise.
Not long to go until December! Maybe then Colin would think about joining her for a day or two back home. The idea had been twirling laps at the back of Emily's mind since returning to Hogwarts. That place. She reckoned Colin would like it... But that would have to wait a little longer!
Emily appeared through the doors of the Small Hall, adjusting the scarf she had wrapped herself with. Very small crowd so far but brilliantly organised. It was a long time since Emily was deeply involved with needlework. She knew of all the tips and tricks thanks to "Auntie", but she always paled in comparison when it came to refining the techniques. Except for cross-stitching. Emily somehow nailed that one above the rest.
She went to help herself until she recognised two familiar mops of hair.
"Colin and Liam!" she beamed as she bounced over to them, trapping them in a group hug. She went to press her cheek against Colin's arm but shivered and recoiled from the twins entirely. "My word! You both feel absolutely frozen!"
She regarded them closely. She was so used to seeing them in bare feet and few layers that she didn't even stop to think about their precautions to the cold weather. They may have been used to it, but Emily was too dumbfounded to accept it."You're both still prancing around without socks and shoes on? And no jackets? In this Baltic weather??"
She quickly unshed her scarf and wrapped it around the twins' necks. "I'm afraid that will have to do. None of my layers are big enough to fit you two." Her lips then slowly curved upwards. The scarf weirdly suited them both.
"In other news-" Emily turned to the table to gather some materials for cross-stitching. "You two here for some needlework too?"
She collected an assortment of patches, coloured thread and a couple of spare needles before plopping into a bean bag by the fireplace, getting cosy with the stuffed animals that were occupying the spot before she came and intruded.
"You two are welcome to join me!" she grinned, setting up her needle.

"Hurry up, you two. We want to get a good table!" Maisie insisted as she pulled just slightly ahead of Mylo and Avis. And ahead of her still was a large sewing and craft kit of her own that she levitated out in front this whole time. She knew, of course, that with this being an errand there would be materials, but that didn't mean she couldn't bring her own and completely overdo it.
Thankfully, when they arrived, there were some people there but not too many. Narrowing her eyes, she took stock of the room. Unfortunately, it was somewhat hard to miss Alyss Gilmour, organizer and prefect, moving between the tables. The memory of that day on viaduct seared in her mind, and she didn't want to test the hypothesis of how her gamble made out in the long term right now. Still, it seemed like perhaps the girls shared more in common than they might realize.
Turning sharply, Maisie took an empty table edge and carefully dropped her box on top of it. "I think this is good," she said as she took a seat and began unboxing her things, spreading out a variety of yarns, needles and other tools ahead of her best friends. As she did so, she swiftly moved the candles to one side. "Lumos," she cast from the tip of her wand, as she propped it up against her box to shed a soft even light for all of them. "The candles will create a yellow-orange color cast," she explained, "so the yarns and threads might look different than you expect. We also just need more light." Her voice was light, but clear. Maisie was bad at a lot of things in this school, but here—and perhaps here alone—she had expertise. And she was ready to lead her friends with a precision and care.
Perhaps they'd take the hint and illuminate their wands too, creating a space for serious crafting. But either way, she was excited to see what they might create. Reaching into her box, which was strewn with yarn, she pulled out a shawl she had been working on in teal with scalloping in a delicate fan stitch. "What do you guys want to make? I have, well, pretty much everything," she asked and completed a yarn over. She might as well get a few stitches in while they considered it and then asked questions. And Merlin, was she ready for the questions.
Like her summer booth, this would be the most organized teaching corner in the small hall.

Snuggles & Stitches
Sunny had been given instructions very, very sternly to focus on his schoolwork, to get good grades, to not even look in the general direction of any girls, and to not participate in any sports, because he needed to pull his grades up. His 'O' average was not good enough, it needed to be O++++, or whatever letter came better than that, as his parents had determined there was, a secret letter that only the best-of-the-best-of-the-best kids ever got, so hushed it was never mentioned, that grade was what he was shooting for, the one that was never talked about and teachers denied existed. So, he had been doing that, except that he felt like he might be going a little crazy as no professor ever said anything about a grade better than O. He felt a little lonely.
He was very excited when he saw a flyer in the hallway for Strangles and Stitches and happily brought his own little first aid kit, about the size of a phone. He had not read the flyer, had been confused at the imagery, but guessed it would be about how to do violence, and how to do first aid in the form of stitching wounds. He remembered a coffee cup on the flyer and had just assumed the student was enthusiastic about coffee, many students here were.
But when he got there, there were balls of yarn on the ground. Were these what they would use to do violence? Then he saw students sitting quietly. He realized he hadn't read the poster at all, just guessed at the letter shapes and words. He felt bad, but everyone was still here, and he would still be able to be around other students, not doing homework for once. He hid his first aid kit and pushed it into his jacket pocket, which was his biggest pocket. He was relieved to see a boy and a sort-of-boy, Collin and Liam, and went to sit by them, walking around Emily with a wide berth, as she was a girl whom he was most definitely not to look at or even breathe around. There were 2 others, Mylo and Avis, and a girl, Masie, whom seemed talkative and made the lighting brighter.
"Thanks", he whispered in Maise's general direction.
He scooted a little closer to Collin for safety from Maise's potential cooties. He studied the assortment of goods and settled for a wand-thing-with-hook-thing and a ball of yarn and began to crochet a scarf.
As he worked, he imagined his family's thanking him for the scarf, they could never get enough of them, and they sold so quickly as tourist trinkets, especially being handmade. All of their handmade items sold quickly, it was difficult to keep them in stock.

Snuggles & Stitches

Aly Salinger was not a particularly yarny person. Oh, she could spin a great yarn - don't let yourself think otherwise - but as for using the little cloth fibers to weave or knit or crochet some kind of article of clothing... well, that was one area in which she was supremely lacking. Aly's really only exposure to this sort of craft was through her Hufflepuff friend @Haven Bohannon, who was learning to crochet, if Aly remembered their conversation back in the cabins in France the February before correctly. However, the Ravenclaw had never really touched this kind of thing herself, but with her mental state currently in shambles due to familial issues and studying for N.E.W.T.s every waking moment, Aly felt like she could use a break.
Normally, when she needed a respite from her piles of parchments and towers of tomes, she turned to one of her best mates, @Dealla Prince or @Pericles Dralt. Either one of them could happily provide a few hours of conversation, or pillow fights in the pillow pit in their shared gender-neutral dormitory, or a trip to the Three Broomsticks for a Butterbeer... the list went on and on. Today, though, Aly was feeling like trying something new - doing something a little different, if she had the option. Thus, seeing the flyer on the Ravenclaw commons' bulletin board for this yarn-craft event felt rather like a bit of fate, a string tied round her pinky toe, tugging her in the direction of the Small Hall.
There were already a few students there, all younger, with some familiar faces and some unfamiliar - including one white-haired Slytherin whom Aly took great care to avoid. She couldn't exactly remember how she'd originally met the McCoire kid, but she certainly didn't like him, that much was for sure. Instead, she took a seat at an empty table on the left side of the room and grabbed a skein of yarn in a lovely royal blue, reminiscent of the Ravenclaw crest on her House robes (which she had left in the dormitory today in favour of a thin cropped halter tank and a pair of black jeans - no warm clothes necessary if she did not plan to venture outdoors). A simple scarf seemed to be her best bet, and the patterns were easy enough to find; she began to loop the yarn over and through itself with a small golden hook, following directions in the book on her table as best as she could. She was certainly nowhere as talented as Haven at this activity - her stitches were uneven, yarn tension unsure - but she could understand why it was intriguing, calming even. She leaned back in her chair a bit, relaxing as she chain-stitched a long row as the base of her scarf; though it would certainly not be the prettiest scarf in the history of winter clothes, she was excited to be able to say she had made it herself. If she didn't mess it up entirely first.

@Alyss Gilmour | open to interactionsDate - 15/11/25 WC 429/400 Color Legend - Mylo | BSL | Thoughts It might have come as a surprise to some but as much as Mylo loved crafting and making stuff with their hands they had never attempted anything to do with yarn or threads, it had just never really crossed their mind. So when Maisie had come to them to tell Avis and him that they'd be going to the errand that was being run by one of his fellow prefects Mylo didn't mind as much, as they were excited to learn something new.
Arriving at the room Mylo immediately appreciated the cosy feeling that the dim lights and comfortable places to sit provided, already enjoying the atmosphere that they had stepped into. It seemed like Maisie was on a mission of her own as she beelined for a table within sight, apparently wanted to get a good table and having found one that was up to her standards.
Watching as she started setting up all the things she had brought with her Mylo listened carefully as she explained colour theory, something he was well versed in due to their experience with drawing. And at her suggestion for more light Mylo immediately started reaching for his wand, wanting to help but stopping short of casting Lumos.
"Give me a second before I cast." They mentioned to Maisie, as they weren't sure if the dim lighting was purposeful and didn't want to start casting a bright light. Looking around to see if they could spot Alyss they tried getting her attention, but weren't sure if it had worked. As Maisie had already continued her lesson Mylo decided that it would be better to not cast Lumos, and to just continue in the slightly dimmer light that had already been provided.
"I don't really have anything in mind, but I think a hat might be nice. It's getting colder after all." Mylo responded, not really having had much time to think about what they wanted to be making. "Do you have a pattern you like using for those?" knowing that she likely had a pattern for everything.
As the question left their mouth he also realised that it would likely be in terms they didn't understand at all. As they had seen their pa having knitted before and Mylo remembered seeing absolute gibberish in the texts he had been following for a specific pattern. Sheepishly they added on another question. "Would you mind also explaining what all the letters mean and how they work?" Hoping that they weren't asking to many questions and taking up to much of Maisies own creative time.ABILITIES | STATS

Leo has always wanted to try knitting, crocheting, and other crafts, but he thought someone would make fun of him if he did. No male that Leo knows has ever knitted, quilted, sewn, or crocheted before, so he was worried that making art via fabrics was considered a feminine activity. However, when he heard that the Small Hall would be decorated for a knitting or crocheting activity, Leo didn't care. He wanted to go, and he wanted to try to make a scarf or blanket to see how well he did, or how badly.
Leo made his way to the Small Hall and was immediately greeted by a dimly lit room with tables with candles and baskets of yarn and other materials that one might need to use. Leo then also saw bean bags near a fireplace and stuffed animals, as well as even more supplies. Leo made his way over to an empty table and sat down. The young lion didn't mind being by himself, but everyone else who was already in the Small Hall was older than Leo, or at least he thought they were.
Leo looked at the books spread out on the table, which he was sitting on. He knew he wanted to make a scarf, blanket, and maybe a stuffed animal. But then he wasn't sure if he'd be great at the art, so he decided to make a blanket for himself. He picked up teal yarn and knitting materials and flipped to the page where it showed directions on how to make the blanket. The young lion then went to work. The dim light was actually a blessing for the young dhampiar, since he could see fairly well, even with the candlelight. The blanket was pretty easy for Leo to make, surprisingly. Leo made the blanket long enough for him to use whenever he got cold during winter.
When he finished, the blanket had a teal and white pattern. Leo felt like adding in white, even though he wasn't sure why. Teal was his favorite color, and white just paired nicely with it. Leo folded his blanket up and placed it to the side before flipping to the page where there were instructions for how to knit a scarf. The folded blanket wasn't taking up a whole lot of room, so if someone wanted to join him at the table, they could most definitely join him. Once he flipped to the page where the scarf instructions are, the young lion picked up his supplies again and began making a teal and white scarf to go along with his blanket. The scarf was a bit harder to do, since it wasn't just straight like the blanket was. Scarves are more curved than blankets are, which made it a tad bit trickier.
The young lion finished his scarf as well and folded it before placing it on top of his blanket. Now, the last thing he wanted to do was to make a stuffed animal. Leo had gotten the idea from all the stuffed animals near the fireplace, but he wasn't sure which type he should make. He was probably going to make a few, maybe all four house animals, and maybe something that was personal to him. However, Leo wasn't sure yet, and if someone were to approach him, they'd see the young lion thinking about what type of stuffed animal he should make first.

| ── | When Graci heard there was to be another event, though this one less event more productive social time, she was on it in an instant. What made it even better, though, was the fact it would not be without productivity. On the exeat weekend the past week, her Grandmother had taught her how to make granny squares, so the next time they saw each other they could make... something. Graci didn't quite remember what it was, only that she should probably get started on them instead of letting them gather dust in her trunk. Besides the fact she hardly had any idea how to crochet other than the hour lesson her Grandmother gave her (Graci had been zoned out in boredom for half the time), all was wonderful. The halls were both bland and chatter filled as usual, and a steady stream of people seemed to be headed to the small hall. Her nails were already chipping, the nail polish never seemed to stay long on her seemingly anxious hands, though that was by no fault other than her own. I wonder if I'll know anyone... do I have any friends with yarn work of any sort as a hobby? Maybe they'll come just because people are there though. Hmm. Upon entrance, Graci found she already had a smile upon her face. It's so... homey. The warmth exuding from the room only made her spirits higher, putting a slight skip in her step as she dawdled over to a beanbag near the fire, bag in hand, eyes wandering. There were a few people already in the room, chatting away amongst themselves or sitting alone, enraptured with the task at hand. She settled herself into the beanbag, setting her bag down to the side and grabbing out the unreasonable amount of stuff and a stack of her completed ones so she could keep track of her progress. The pattern was easy enough, and ingrained in her brain from the time she spent doing it on the journey back to school, garnering significant progress in that day alone. Apparently, her Grandmother was an avid lover of all things crocheted, and had given Graci a few sweaters and a horribly itchy scarf. A sigh started her off, brain going on autopilot after a while and going off into daydream land, where all things bright and perfect lived. Her preferred place to go when she had a moment to herself not occupied with schoolwork or writing in her quick filling journal. It was moments like these Graci longed for company, for a small group of friends, three or four in total, to spend her days with, laughing and sharing jokes and secrets like they were Every Flavour Beans. Yet, the Gryffindor girl had no such group of friends, and the odd luck of hardly seeing people more than once. Like any possible friends dissipated into the ether1 the moment they had the chance to meet. Next year I suppose. Preferably next calendar year, not school year. But beggars can't be choosers, so I'll have to settle with 'someday'. Another glance around the room led only to slight recognition, for as far as she could remember, none of them had ever conversed with her. Faces were familiar, but not names. So was the way of Graci's brain, faces were easier to remember than names by a landslide, a continuous ailment that never seemed to pass. Her foot tapped to the rhythm of the latest song stuck into her brain, coincidentally also going at a slow enough pace to keep her hook in time with the beat. The yarn was soft, not at all itchy like the scarf which was a quiet sort of relief; itchy yarn was the bane of Graci's existence. Especially when she felt obliged to wear it for the sake of being polite. She shifted in the beanbag chair, already restless and it had hardly been eight minutes. The horror. How do people do this for so long? Sure, it might have been her usual agitation of having to sit with no one to talk to, but stars above, this is tedious. | xxx | ![]() |

| xxx | Lottie had realized exactly three hours ago that she did not have a hat. This was a startling realization for Lottie and Lottie alone, because she always found that she had quite a large repertoire when it came to fashion. She had an abundance of scarves, jackets, gloves, sweaters, even leg warmers, and yet not one single hat. And this was odd, because Lottie would certainly like a hat. Her ears were always getting cold in the wintertime and her hair would grow frizzy from the cold. She determined that she would get a hat. Or, perhaps, make one. She had never been much of a knitter, though Ethel had tried her very hardest to teach her. She understood it enough to perhaps figure out a hat, though not a very fashionable one. Upon arriving to the craft event she had only learned about a few days prior, Lottie had spent a good fifteen minutes attempting to determine which yarn was the most suitable for her new hat, and would look best with the rest of her clothing. By the time she had picked it out, a vision had grown in her mind. Perhaps a bit unattainable, but only time would tell. Her one comfort was that, if she failed, she could at least purchase one from Hogsmeade. Perhaps one that could transform into a scarf at will, or magically transport the knowledge for her DADA exam into her head. Posting up at one of the many tables in the Small Hall, Lottie retrieved a pair of wooden knitting needles from her bag and began working away. Her hands were not very precise, but the actions eventually became repetitive, and she got a swing for things. She likes systems, and knitting was just one great system. It was also notably non-magical, which added a bit of joy to the small activity. The evening slipped away from her, candlelight making her eyelids heavy and motions slow. She watched the fire crackle on the other end of the hall, and wound up stabbing her hand with the needle. Cursing softly, she placed the needles at her side and held out her progress. It wasn't... perfect. A bit lopsided. A lot lopsided. But, still, something in her beamed. Sure, it was a bit ugly, but she had made it. With her own hands. And a small portion of advice she had picked up from her sister years ago. With a triumphant grin, she placed the hat over her head and flopped down onto one of the many bean bag chairs. | xxx |
