Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 8
English - Japanese - Thoughts || Sunday, October 19th, 2025 || WC - 92XXXAll at once, everything broke into chaos. Eonaria's attempt at the Fire-Making Spell had ended up fizzling into a few sparks while a thick cloud of smoke covered the entire stage. She coughed slightly, trying to see through it all to locate her opponents and teammates. Yikes! I knew my Incendio Duos weren't the greatest, but I didn't think they were that bad! Where even is everyone?? Eonaria gripped her wand closer. If she managed to lose it in this cloud, she'd probably never find it! What was she to do now?@Phoenix Zhang, @Cassian Montelise ByrneAction: as strategised

Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 8
Cassian coughed as smoke engulfed the room, waving his arms ineffectually as he attempted to dispel the smog in front of him. He thought his attempt had successfully landed, but he couldn’t be sure — seriously, was everyone’s strategy to make visibility as poor as possible? If so, they were definitely succeeding.

Actions: As strategizedAmelia gulped, sudden terror building in up in her rapidly. Shaking, now quite visibly, she forced herself to take in a few deep breaths. But inwardly she was a combination of frustration and disappointment. This wasn’t how it was meant to go. She wasn’t meant to freeze and just let her team down. Trying to get a grip in the duel, she attempted to reassure herself. Everything was going to be ok, the practice she had done would surely pay off. Maybe she believed it, maybe she didn’t. But either way it was slowly soothing her nerves. She just had to hope luck was on her side.

Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 8
This is a notification of a change to the roster for this game. Due to a sudden and unexpected removal of a Gryffindor team member, a non-descript duellist NPC with identical stats, abilities, and spells will fill in for the rest of the match. This NPC will be posted for by @Lucille Rosenhart. Because this switch happened after the posting deadline, Lucille was given 96 hours from the owl announcing this substitution to post, which is now 59 hours from this post.

NPC Post
The atmosphere is full of smoke and fog, and I let out a cough. There is a spark of light in front of me. Someone has cast a fire-making spell, but that is the only thing distinguishable through the dense white air. I wave my arms, and with it my wand, trying to clear my vision and readying myself for my next move.

Day 2 - Afternoon slot
Most spells lit up rather brightly, so while Aislin and the spectators couldn't properly see any of the duellists (except Amelia, who had escaped the smoke cover but was still moving uncertainly), they were entertained by quite the light show. Fire was obvious, even to those in the room who had not been around magic long enough to remember all the spell colors. Fire spells bathed the stage in orange, interchanging between just two duellists. Verity's was like a shot in the dark, understandably, catching nothing and dispersing once it broke out of the smoke and fog. Cassian, though, had somehow pinpointed Verity and sent his Incendio at a bullseye, briefly lighting up Verity's position before, luckily for the Hufflepuff, the flames all went out.
Eonaria's Green Sparks Charm was nearly as distinctive and briefly brighter, a line of green that emerged to blind Amelia, but with no luck. Amelia might not have cast any of her own spells yet, but she wasn't going to spend her next moments blinking green out of her vision. She wouldn't have to deal with enchanted tickling, either, the third Gryffindor perhaps remembering that the version of a tickling spell they knew wasn't on the allowed spells list.
The last color? Blue, familiar to any frequenters of the duelling club, familiar even to Aislin after a mere month here. Flipendo was a staple on this stage, brutal and to-the-point, but instead of crossing the stage in a blaze of energy, the light all seemed to cluster around the third Hufflepuff and explode backwards. Aislin winced from her spot on the sidelines, getting a better picture of the damage as the smoke cleared. Hufflepuff had taken some hard blows and were starting to look a little worse for wear, but maybe Verity's fog still clinging stubbornly to two of the Gryffindors would serve as cover.

action: as strategizedIf anyone had thought Amelia’s panic attack was at it’s close, they had severely misjudged. Still shaking violently, her chest thrummed up with a far too quick, staccato beat. While Amelia had gained a far stronger rein on her terror, her mind was a mess of jumbled up spells and disappointed thoughts. The worst one danced around her head, whispering mockingly to her, your letting them down. It’s the reason hufflepuff is loosing. Your never going to be good enough. Everyone will be ashamed of you. It was enough to overwhelm the girl, who unlike everyone else, was unable to move her hand to speak.
Cursing inwardly, if you could call the childish words curses, she took a deep breath and quickly gauged the action of the duel. As luck had it, no spells hit her, although a flash of green narrowly passed her and she could have sworn it was aimed towards her, although the misty impact of the room made it hard to tell. It was enough to let her confidence sink as she saw that the opposing lions were completely unaffected by the duel, yet her teammates were… not doing the best.
Trying not to get downhearted and listen to the cruel whispers in her head, Amelia focused her best on the positive things. Top of her classes. She could do this. She would do this. If it wasn’t so terrifying and disheartening, her lack of success would have been rather funny. Maybe when she was an old sixth year, she would laugh about this moment with her friends. But for now, there was only one thing to do. Try her best.

English - Japanese - Thoughts || Sunday, October 19th, 2025 || WC - 123XXXEonaria fired a Green Sparks Charm through the smoke, hoping to at least hit one of their opponents, but alas, it seemed to have missed entirely. She grimaced, waving away the last of the smoke from her face. It really didn't smell great, but at least it was out of the way for her now. It still seemed to linger around her teammates, though. She internally cheered when she saw Cassian fire an Incendio through the smoke, getting a direct hit. Nice!
XXXEonaria's heart lurched in alarm when she saw one of the Hufflepuffs point their wand towards her. Thankfully, the spell backfired, but it made her wince. Magic can really be quite violent... I hope they're okay!! Now, what to do next?@Lucille Rosenhart, @Cassian Montelise ByrneAction: as strategised

Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 8
Cassian breathed a sigh of relief as his spell found its mark once again, even through the smoke. For a moment, he had been nervous that it would go wide or peter out entirely, but it seemed as if he still had a decent grasp on the basics. Cassian squinted through the smog as a plume of fire seemed to come at him in retaliation, but it disappeared before he could determine if it had even existed. Oh well! They were doing pretty well — he had full faith in his team. He just wished that the smoke would dissipate sooner so that he'd stop feeling like he was stumbling through a cloud.
