Ally Craig was very excited she finally got to enjoy herself at an event she walked into the small hall with Nari and saw how awesome some of the costume choices looked! Ally had to do a double look on all of the costumes because while some were cool others looked like they would be a tad bit embarrassing to be caught wearing out in public! Ally was just so happy that she got to share this great opportunity with Nari even though she knows how hard it must have been for her to butt heads with her brother and family on how they don't celebrate Halloween and all still this made Ally happy that she could at least have some fun with her tutor slash best friend!!
Ally stood and watched everybody in their costumes hoping to catch a glimpse of anybody interesting enough to start an interaction with and low and behold there was a girl dressed in a pretty blue dress that looked like a character out of a movie! The costumes looked amazing, so Ally got up enough courage and walked up to the girl and said Hello, my name is Ally Craig I am a First Year Ravenclaw! What is your name? I know we have never interacted before, but I just wanted to tell you that I really love your choice of costume I am a huge fan of how people dressed in the wagon days! Then Ally realizing like she always does a little too late that maybe that what she meant to be a compliment the other might take it more of an insult, so Ally rushed to apologize saying I am so very sorry, I just really love the idea you came up with for a costume! I have a really bad habit of putting my foot in my mouth and sometimes speak before I think everything through first, but I really hope that we can become friends!!
Ally was left wondering what this girl might think of her, Ally turned to Nari and said I really hope that I didn't mess this up, I would really like to have some more friends!!

Robin padded through the halls, already in her simple sheet with blacked-out holes for eyes. The way the sheet perfectly hid her identity was highly pleasing to Robin, who preferred to be as hidden in the shadows as possible at such events. When Robin decided it was time to be noticed, she made herself known, but only after she had surveyed her prospective haunt for every piece of knowledge she could use to her advantage. She wouldn't be the only one hidden behind a mask - who knew who could sneak up on her when she least expected it. No, she will remain under her sheet for the majority of the night, her costume of Edgar Allen Poe obscured by the sheet. She'd decided she would not speak unless spoken to until the competition ended. Robin wasn't an idiot – she wasn't expecting to win the damn competition. She just wanted to wear something just camp enough to disturb people with its simplicity. She'd simply asked a house elf for an old sheet and they'd happily delivered - she looked forward to how eery she'd look just standing in the middle of the room, making eye contact with people who'd have no idea it was her. Robin laughed aloud, trodding toward the small hall where she knew the event was taking place.
Of course, Robin considered dressing in a costume more... traditionally scary. She'd considered going as a werewolf, deciding against it due to the potential of pissing off a secret werewolf. She'd discovered last year that she was attending school with part-veelas, probably the only species she'd ever taken a problem with – although she was working on accepting the part-veela, knowing how damaging her undeserved judgment could be. No, going as a werewolf wouldn't do - she needed to go incognito, and the spark of genius was one that had hit her only earlier that day when she was painting on the eye bags of the dead American poet.
As she entered the room, she noticed the giant webs spanning the massive columns and walls, smiling as the darker atmosphere settled upon her. Robin had always been a fan of Halloween - of Samhain and the way the dead were closer to the mortal plane than ever on the evening of the 31st, marking the end of the season in an offering to the Celtic gods. Right up Robin's lane, having been a Celt herself and a natural inquisitor of all things death-related. Moving to a corner of the dim room, Robin stood with her back against the wall and gazed around the room, arms relaxed at her side and brown eyes taking in every detail. Robin recognized a few familiar faces - none she actually recognized until she reached Maisie Gemmell, one of her duelling teammates. Dismissing the thought of approaching anyone, Robin leaned against the wall to relax as she processed her surroundings.
Mind wandering alongside her eyes, Robin thought back to the last time she stood in an event like this - she thought back to the Spring Ball, where she and her closest friend Odette Leone had attempted to ruin the dance with a stink bomb in the middle of the dance floor. They had escaped successfully, mainly because nobody had come looking for them. It was an epic failure in terms of pranking - it made her wonder if her pranking days would be left in the Muggle world until she could come up with something cleverer.
Robin scanned the crowd of costumes, eyes scanning for any that stood out to her in particular. She noticed someone who looked like one of the main characters of the White Chicks movie – she rolled her eyes at that. Of all the Muggle pop culture possible to bring to the castle, why would they pick that? Her favorite costume was a kid who looked like they were dressed like Naruto, a manga series popular in the Muggle world. The only thing missing was the bleached-blond, spiky hair on his head, and he'd have made a good likeness. It upset her that she hadn't thought about dressing up like someone from her favorite manga, One Piece. Preferably one with a mask - maybe Sogeking. She felt she resembled Usopp enough. Not creepy enough, she dismissed.
Robin made eye contact with a few random students, their eyes only remaining on her for a moment before flickering away to another student they were happily chatting to. Something in her twinged painfully – it was her second year here, and she had accomplished... what? A couple of friendships that easily crumbled with the passage of time?
She swallowed hard, looking around at all of the people, suddenly feeling like the room was too small. What was she doing here? Why was she so... off-putting? It never bothered her before – no, she'd taken pride in it, but... it bothered her then. Standing in a room of smiling, laughing students, seeing herself in many of them, and unable to join because of her... her what? Her distrust of the general population? What was she so afraid of? She - the girl who did nighttime Tarot readings in the Forbidden Forest. She, who taunts hateful wizards with a wand pointed at her face. What about the adrenaline rush was acceptable in dangerous moments that she refused to face in front of her peers? Robin didn't know - and she didn't care. Or she wasn't supposed to care, at least. So she stayed alone - watching. Always watching. Robin chewed on her lip, still hidden underneath her white sheet, black boots poking out of the bottom. Robin shook the thoughts from her head and quietly cast a bravery charm on herself, hopefully not drawing any attention. She needed a bit of extra gusto if she was to stay at least to see the winner get chosen – she was feeling rather nosy (curious), if anything.

Dress for the Dead.

"This is ridiculous," were the first words to leave her mouth once she looked in the mirror and saw herself wearing the finished version of a black, layered ballgown. How her roommate had roped her into this, Milica had no idea, but the two had been busy stitching up their dresses ever since the wretched poster showed up throughout the halls. Halloween wasn't her favorite holiday; actually, she didn't like any holiday. Forced festivities really weren't her thing.
Now, she actually had a good reason to agree to attending this outrageous event. That's because this day, the 31st of October, was actually her birthday. Nobody knew, of course, and she would keep it that way. Luckily, it wasn't difficult to hide the owls she received from her parents. Milica was 90% sure that nobody knew today was her birthday.
Letting out a breath, Milica finally felt ready to leave her dorm in her flashy dress. She looked and felt ridiculous. At least she sort of liked the bun, it being a nice change of pace from the way she usually wore her hair. "Are you ready? Let's just go now and return as soon as we can," she passionlessly said to Cecilia, putting emphasis on 'as soon as we can', before the two finally headed up towards the Small Hall.
==========================─⋅☾☽⋅─
To her surprise, the Small Hall was decorated beautifully. An eerie vibe hung around the room and candles and carved pumpkins were scattered around the hall. They definitely weren't the first to arrive: the hall was filled with many students, all either dressed up or busy stitching up a costume of their own. At this point in the year, Milica recognized quite a lot of students. She noticed Maisie, who she knew from the Autumn Ball. Leo Noxley, a friend of Cecilia's, was there as well. She herself only knew him from a potion's assignment, but he seemed like a clever boy. The last person she recognized was Natasha, having had the pleasure of sharing a train compartment with her.
All in all, she and Cecilia didn't look that ridiculous compared to the others. The pair had decided to go with matching outfits. Honestly, Milica didn't really care what they wore, as she knew everything would look absurd anyway. Still, she was glad she didn't have to wear anything too colorful. It was a surprise to her when she learned that her roommate knew pop culture, but when she suggested going with Wednesday and Enid, Milica immediately agreed. She didn't watch a lot of tv shows herself, but she certainly envied Wednesday. That girl showcased everything she wanted to be -- nonchalant, mighty, not scared of anything -- and so she liked the idea of dressing up as her. Well, liked is a big word, but she didn't mind it as much as she would mind dressing up as anything else.
Looking around the decorated room, Milica was unable to hide her judgy looks towards the people who dressed up as bananas. There was no way of knowing who they were, but honestly, she didn't even want to know. After she took in the entire hall, she finally had to comment on what she saw towards Cecilia. "These people look absolutely ridiculous. I suppose not everyone can look as good as we do."
In truth, she also felt like she looked ridiculous, but she hoped that pretend confidence would give her actual confidence. Honestly, Milica had no idea what to do now that they had arrived. She sort of hoped she could just follow around Cecilia, not talk to anyone and return to her dorm as soon as she could. Hope and pray Milica, hope and pray.

Someone walked in with an excessively simple costume, but it drew Lucille's attention nonetheless. It was simply a white sheet with holes for eyes, the typical representation of a ghost. Or, to be more specific, the Muggle representation of a ghost. She assumed a pureblood witch or wizard wouldn't typically be exposed to such a costume. After all, they knew what ghosts were truly like. Why would they know the fictional ways Muggles viewed them? However, it was the anonymity that intrigued her. Was this someone she knew? Lucille doubted it, considering they made their way to another corner of the room, like her, and simply watched and waited. Waiting for someone specific, or someone to notice them? Lucille wasn't sure, and so she stayed where she was, letting her eyes periodically flit towards them and then away again. It was during one of these glances that Lucille noticed the person casting a charm. Curious. Could this be someone pulling a prank of some sorts, or perhaps an organizer causing something interesting in the room? She waited for a few seconds, but nothing seemed to change. Perhaps the charm had failed, or perhaps it had subtly done what it had meant to. Lucille found herself inching closer, wanting to know more. As she neared, she was now close enough to notice the color of their eyes, and the intricacies, or lack thereof, of their costume. It looked like an old white bedsheet, with simple cuts. This seemed to be a costume that had been done in even more of a rush and with less care than Lucille's. Strange, considering this person had walked in like this. Perhaps they hadn't known of the table with materials to make one's costume? Finally close enough that it would now be awkward to not talk (and intrigued enough that she really, really wished to talk), Lucille spoke. "I don't suppose you're someone I know under there?" She now looked directly at the person, trying to place their eyes, if she could. A fruitless endeavor, considering Lucille was terrible with remembering faces, much less eyes. "Interesting costume," she continued, a bright smile beginning to spread upon her lips. She couldn't explain why, but she felt this to be someone new. Perhaps it was the lack of recognition, although she hadn't given a moment for them to respond, but it was mainly that Lucille couldn't think of any friend of hers that might dress this way. Most of her friends were far too fun-loving to have a plain costume, and the others were far too elegant to want to dress in one such as this. Assumptions, maybe, but she felt they were true. She wasn't sure how she felt of someone who seemed to do the bare minimum to be here in the contest. In a way, she admired it for its simplicity; in another, she felt it was far too simple to be fun. And was that not what this contest was all about? Having a bit of fun? Her inquisitive expression seemed to ask why? The rest of that question, she hadn't figured out yet. | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Natasha laughed as Cane spun around, wondering if she could, perhaps, pull off 'Classic Schoolgirl'
“Please tell me you have a better idea.....please!”
"Well, I didn't even know there was a costume contest until I entered, so I don't have any ideas yet, but let's brainstorm!"
She glanced around at the other costumes, hoping to gain inspiration.
Some people were wearing a bananas in pajamas costume, which certainly looked fun and interesting. Perhaps fruits could be something to think about... But then again, they certainly didn't have the time, or skills, to make a full length, detailed costume. At least not with their limited knowledge of spells.
She grinned at someone dressed as Naruto. While she wasn't interested in anime, hearing her brother continuously obsess over Demon Slayer, One-Piece, Naruto and countless other animes, meant she had to know at least a little bit about it.
Next, she spotted someone in a police officer uniform! Complete with handcuffs and everything. That definitely took some effort if it was handmade. Realizing that she wasn't getting any inspiration from that, she moved on and looked around.
Her eyes rested on a pair of girls dressed as Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair, and she grinned. She remembered when Season 1 of 'Wednesday' had come out. She and her brother had binge-watched the entire thing in one day, gasping and laughing the entire time.
That was what had caused her interest in Literature to spike actually. Wednesday's mentions of Edgar Allan Poe had made her curious, and she had googled him, obsessing over his work for about 2 months, before it faded into the background.
Suddenly a thought struck her, 'Edgar Allan Poe! The costume wouldn't be too hard either. Just a shirt and a bowtie would be enough, and perhaps a mustache.'
Turning to Cane, she said, "You could dress up as Edgar Allan Poe. Do you know anything about him?"
"Also, Do you have any idea what I could wear? Or am I to be stuck with 'Ravenclaw Girl'?" she added, grinning.

"Edgar Allan Poe..." I repeated, taking a moment to get a feel for the idea. "Yeah, I know him. My old man was always into the literary classics, used to read me some weird stories, had some funny language in it, like Thou, Thee and Hast. Tell me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Poe some gloomy bloke who used to write about Ravens, dead women and mysterious heartbeats hidden beneath floorboards?"
I paused for a moment, and a small chuckle slipped out. "Actually...that might just work. Dark coat, ruffled shirt, bow tie and lots of brooding. Suppose I could ink on a moustache as well. Yep, that's my night sorted."
I glanced back at Natasha with a raised brow. "As for you... 'Ravenclaw Girl'" I paused for a heart beat, deep in thought. "Ravenclaw girl...ravenclaw...RAVEN! That's it, you could be the Raven. We could do a joint costume. Poe and the Raven. All you would have to do is say 'NEVERMORE' every now and then."
I looked back at the table. “Look...this black cloth here could work for the feathers,” I said, grabbing a long strip and holding it up against her shoulder. “We could cut some jagged edges into it and maybe layer it a bit, it’ll sort of look like wings. Doesn’t have to be perfect.”
I continued to dig through the pile, eventually I pulled out another scrap of black material, it looked like it might once have belonged to someone’s old cloak. “And for the mask.... We can shape one out of some stiff parchment, cut some eye holes in it, glue on some of fake feathers.”
I stepped back, already picturing it. “Tie the mask on with a bit of string or cord, and abracadabra your now the Raven of Ravenclaw. It even fits your house."
The pure bloods wouldn’t get it but it would still look awesome “Well, what do you think?"

Evony had very little clue of what she was doing as she gathered interesting looking fabrics together at the table. She tried to ignore the many people around as she concentrated on a possible way to make a costume out of all of this. It was just a bit embarrassing, considering she was one of the only ones utilizing the table; most everyone came prepared, wearing well-designed and thought out costumes. She took a deep breath and decided to be tough and brave. She missed a lot of opportunities in her First Year because she felt too awkward to participate. Well, not this year. This year, she was determined to put herself into new situations, try new things, and learn from her experiences.
Now... how do you make an outfit out of random materials? And preferably one that fit the theme: Dress for the Dead. She didn't know any spells that could help, and although she had some minor experience hand-sewing (making doll clothes when she was younger, which she would never admit to anyone), she did not fancy sitting here for the next two hours making an outfit.
So, not sewing. Maybe... tying? She started with a strip of cloth and starting tying short and long fabrics along it. In her search for more, she found some full pieces of clothing: shirts, skirts, dresses, pants. She found one dress that was about her size, but the bottom was ripped and frayed. She cut it shorter - shirt size - and used some of the leftovers for her tying project. Finally she looped it all together and admired her work. She gathered up her new costume and went to the bathroom to change. A few extra details with a black marker, and the look was complete: zombie ragdoll.

Dress for the Dead.
October 31st, 2025 English - Thoughts @Ally Craig, @Rosaline Everhart Dress for the Dead [WC 305]
XXXEonaria followed Ally curiously as the Ravenclaw first year suddenly turned and approached another first year, whom she recognised as Rosaline after a moment of confusion. She was one of the girls that she had gotten ready with in the Common Room earlier that month for the Enchanted Depths Ball. It had been a little hard to figure out who she was with the wig she was wearing, as she didn't know her very well. Ally complimented Rosaline rather enthusiastically, though Eonaria wondered what 'the wagon days' meant.
XXXI feel like she's overreacting too much... Rosaline is a perfectly nice person, there's no reason to believe you've already messed up ten seconds into the first conversation! She hasn't even responded yet! But then Eonaria felt a twinge of guilt when she remembered that she used to be that way. Of course, it wasn't expressed out loud or to this extreme like Ally, but it was very unseemly of her to criticise her.
XXX"Of course not," Eonaria reassured the Ravenclaw kindly. "You didn't mess anything up!" Then she turned to Rosaline with a smile.
XXX"Hello there! Do you remember me? You look lovely, by the way! Your dress is so elegant and detailed." The patterned lace on Rosaline's dress was beautiful and the fabric looked to be of high quality. Eonaria wondered if she was meeting up with someone, since she had come alone.
XXXMore and more people were beginning to enter the Small Hall, some of them stopping at the table to fashion a makeshift costume out of the provided fabrics and accessories. Hmm, perhaps I should have stopped there, just to see what they have. Eonaria did love crafting and designing things, after all. She touched the back of her head to check if her bow was still on straight, which it was. Good.

![]() alright, give up, get down it's just the hardest part of living summary, this thread is happening on OCTOBER 31ST, 2025, in the EVENING with OPEN FOR INTERACTIONS / wc: 335. outfit: harlequin clown (pictured above) on the eve of harlan's fifteenth birthday, he hadn't expected to want to dress up with some of the younger years who often celebrated hallow's eve. harlan never considered him much of a costume enthusiast, but perhaps indulging in the absence of what felt like his youth might help recover the pieces of himself lost. and so he found himself an outfit between his own wardrobe and his sister's, harlow, that pieced together something that felt how he felt — confused, interesting, persistent, and strange. with quick drying ink, harlan did his best to not poke his own eye out as he painted a single eye with black as he'd seen in some of the reference pictures and slicked his hair into a quirky little middle part. a loose blouse cinched at the waist showcasing fragments of exposed skin with black trousers finished his look as he looked into the mirror of his shared dorm feeling pleased with himself that he was pushing the boundaries of societal expectation and also shattering through his own expectations of himself. he'd never say this next part out loud but perhaps the possession was a blessing in disguise. it didn't seem to leave much of a lingering effect but being shattered to the core, only meant that while harlan rebuilt himself he would have much more consideration on what he deeply cared for and what could be unlearned. pushing the rest of that out of his mind, harlan would focus on the event and made his way down to the small hall in trepidation until he turned the corner and saw a sea of children playing dress up and he nearly turned the corner back to his room. he should've known better to think it wouldn't be filled with first and second years in a myriad of costumes. harlan let out a sigh and moved to the table filled with mixed fabrics, perhaps there was a way he could still improve his costume with whatever was scattered on the table. | —— |
