Aiko wasn’t sure which day she had been more nervous; her first day as headmistress (though at the time she figured very interim), or her first day as Head of House. It seemed like this was almost worse nerves wise, but then again it also tended to fade from memory once she got more confident. To be fair, this could also be piled on top of joining a new school, even though Aiko had visited. At Mahoutokoro, she had attended the school as a student. Here, she had only visited, and to be fair the first visit had been rather…. explosive. But she had made the decision, and now she would follow through.

It wasn’t that the nerves were about her new position. She felt the roughly year she had been in the Headmistress role had prepared her well. It was more the new location, and the need to familiarize herself with a new student body. Aiko loved to travel and explore, but it still gave her nerves, even though she was excited. She had also been feeling slightly disconnected from her students towards the end of her tenure at Mahoutokoro, instead spending more time in her office than she wished. She was certain that this role would be different, in that it seemed to focus more on the students than the paperwork required to run a school. That instead would be Headmaster Lear’s problem.

Taking a calming breath, she strode in the doors, looking around in curiosity. It was different from her previous school and already seemed cooler. She made a note to herself to stalk up on warmer clothes. It seemed a trip to Hogsmeade would be in order.

Aiko had decided to lean into the theme of her new house, and worn robes that gradually transitioned from black to a deep crimson red. She hadn’t bothered with a hat, instead leaving her colorful hair in a bun with a few strands hanging around her face. Her shoes were black dress shoes, and she wore a few bracelets on her left wrist with her watch.

Going to the bottom of the stairs, out of the way, she waited patiently, continuing to look around, and trying to make guesses on where different staircases went.

As he walked into the Hall, he knew that he presented the image of a man with zero fucks left to give. He couldn't wait to be done and move into a new phase in his life. He had just returned to the castle from the green houses and was carrying a basket covered on top with a blanket. It would look peculiar to passersby because there were a couple of unseen Leaping Toadstools inside and they were occasionally making bids for freedom. He could've been easily mistaken for a muggle who'd somehow slipped past the enchantments into the castle. He was wearing a plaid work shirt, (very) faded blue jeans, and a pair of well worn brown work boots. He was looking especially scruffy, letting his grey hair and beard grow out.

He looked across the hall and saw a somewhat familiar face surveying the maze of staircases. He walked over to her, still clutching his basket of toadstools and smiled at her warmly, "Ms. Mori, how are you?"

He had not seen her in quite a while but she, as always, had a sort of refined elegance to her that looked effortless. If he'd been playing for the other team, he was sure he'd have been quite taken with her. From the times they'd spoken a bit on her visits to Hogwarts, she'd struck him as very intelligent and engaging, a combination which would serve her well in the job she would soon be taking.

He was also selfishly happy that she was here because it meant it was all the sooner that he could get the hell out of here. Truth be told he'd missing be around Orion all the time, but not much else besides the grounds.

Hearing her name, she turned towards the voice and recognized the individual as the Gryffindor head of house, she had met previously. Aiko nodded her head slightly, a smile on her lips as she replied to his kindness, “Mr. Browne, a pleasure. I’m doing well, and you?”

Her first impression of the man had been one of silent strength. He perfectly displayed the strength and determination of his house, or at least so she assumed based on their previous meetings. At the moment though, he had dressed more casually, and she almost regretted the dressier style she had gone with. But it was her first change to make an impression on anyone they came across, and better to be overdressed than underdressed had been her thoughts.

Turning her watch on her wrist, she asked “Have you been very busy? I can only imagine what has been going on with the announcement.” It seemed bizarre that all four heads of houses had decided to step down at once, but Aiko hadn’t really puzzled on it, instead thankful for the chance to escape it had presented. A chance for a break, and one enforced by distance. She found comfort in the usual small talk, something her mother had drilled her on as a teenager, and one lesson she had studied well.
