The Office of the Professor of TransfigurationxxxxxThe day was a beautiful one, filled with the expectation of students graduating, going on break, and returning home. Tristan had none of these in a certain manner. His parent were wonderful of course, he did not want imply anything against such, but he himself was rather independent and much desired to live on his own if possible. His parents own a flat in Muggle London as said before and he himself had experienced much of his life there, growing up with his tutor who had passed away two years prior.
xxxxxToday, Tristan desired to question the transfiguration professor and learn more deeply about the exciting world that transfiguration could provide, beyond the slight window of privilege students gained through their education. No, Tristan desired beyond anything else, to prove that he was intelligent, strange, mysterious, and a novelty to the Wizarding World in regards to transfiguration and more. He himself already was a strange one for a pureblood, finding himself much more interested and in comradery with Muggleborns than the stiff and cold purebloods.
xxxxxEven when he had presented himself as his cold princely persona, he was a mischievous one, with strange dichotomies with perfect lack of emotion that stemmed from a strong turmoil on the inside. He was a pureblood that familiar with the characters and legends of Muggles and he always was inclined to represent himself as a Sherlockian character or perhaps a vulcan-like character. A person perfectly in control of his emotions but filled with deep passion, pain, joy, and love.
xxxxxHe also was a visibly handsome young teenager having been gifted genetics that made him a strong athletic figure with blonde hair, blue eyes, that sparkled with mischief every moment he desired. He was intensely curious about human transfiguration as the young man had researched even at a young age the difficulty of such a topic, including the possibility of non-verbal and wandless spells. There was a strange avoidance of the Dark Arts here at Hogwarts but he was certain in perhaps a hopeful manner that questioning Human Transfiguration and wandless, non-verbal spells would be encouraged and desired.
xxxxxPerhaps, Tristan could even question the professor about the idea of transforming Muggle society and Wizarding society, metamorphosizing them into one, where magic and science were combined into one utopia. The revolutionaries of the past generation hoped to conquer the Muggles for the Greater Good. In a similar manner, Tristan also believed in a greater good, but a different one. He believed that the greater good was to combine the wizarding and muggle world, combining the best of the best in both worlds, working together to use magic to solve the problems of the muggle world and adapting the muggle sensibilities to help solve the world of magic. He had been consistently been obsessed with this idea for the whole year, having shared his ideas with Professor Clairmont this year and with others. He had been obsessed with revolution since his first year but he hoped that this revolution that he desired would occur was less diabolical than the plans he had offered in the past, before he lost his squib tutor to death and realized the world would just be a much better place if there was a way to combine the gifts of the magical world with the scientific insights of muggles.
xxxxxFood could no longer be a problem for people and people could envision new manners of reaching space and different planets. With these thoughts in his mind, Tristan changed into his robes and stepped out of dormitory room and stepped purposefully in the direction of the Transfiguration Professor's office. He walked, taking in the sights of others around him, desperate for them to understand the moral obligation that he had to save the people in his lives with magic. If only this could be possible. He was curious at how the professor would react when talking to Tristan one on one. Tristan, after all, was very likely, the strangest fifth year in his class, a combination of Sherlockian, Spockian, and Willy Wonkian at this point. He couldn't remember if the Professor was muggleborn or not, so Tristan couldn't even remember if the professor would even understand the references he was making in his head currently. He loved the idea slightly of surprising the professor with abrupt muggle references and such, as the mischief in his heart flared for a moment. Tristan was more mature than the majority of his peers having suffered through the death of his loved ones and a natural proclivity to seriousness and emotional care. Slytherin were such manipulative fools, why do they care such of reputation and manipulation others to get what they want. To him, none of this mattered when people die and people lose loved ones everyday. The focus should be on something else rather than blood purity or ambition and power. He climbed the stairs to the first floor, wandered there for a moment, staring at paintings and the stone. He climbed to the second floor. He climbed to the third floor. He climbed to the fourth floor. Finally, he reached the fifth floor, arising to his full height, he leaned against the stone facade of the castle and looked out. He was always impressed by the view up here.
xxxxxHe walked past the Gryffindor Common Room, then the secret room of requirement, and then finally reached the Transfiguration classroom and office. He stood there for a moment as he wondered what could happen. He had never really met this professor outside of classes after all. He wondered strangely what had come over him, after all, Tristan was quite a bit of a lone wolf and never really went out of his way to talk to others or professors although it did often give him genuine pleasure to do so. He stood there for a moment more, debating whether it was worth the trouble but his desperation and curiosity won, leading him to knock on the door and ask, "Professor, are you in? Could I come in?"
Makaio's Office
Makaio finished unpacking his things. Granted it wasn’t much. A few mysterious items that seemed out of place, perhaps mementos from past missions or secretly transfigured objects to disguise them as something innocuous. There was an assortment of figurines from gnomes to dragons, a large knife and sheath that was currently acting as a paper weight, and a yo-yo - not that he ever knew what it did. The office was spacious with various practice tools and books left from the previous professors. He set the box he brought everything in beside the entrance to his office and sat down in the chair. “Too comfortable,” Makaio grumbled. He hated comfort. It made one soft and was also bad for your posture. Bad posture meant back problems which were far more frequent now in his 40s.
A knock came at the door and the professor bid his guest to enter. His first visitor! He had just had his first full set of classes and he was just getting to know everyone. In strolled an older student, confident in his demeanor. He had very few older students compared to his first years so the face was familiar enough, having a talent for names. He was an insightful lad and stuck out to the professor as someone with truly fascinating creativity in his thinking. Beyond class, he had no other interactions with this student as of yet. Makaio snapped his fingers and with a wordless thought, a chair moved from one of the corners of the room to his desk. He gestured with a smile, “Welcome to my office, Mr. Theramin.”
“What brings you in today?”

Date : June 18th, 2025 Color code : Written|Thought|Said Sere's mood was pretty bad this morning. Different from usual, today it was clearly depicted on her face. The girl who usually hid all her feelings neatly now looked uneasy, rubbing her face repeatedly, annoyed with the drowsiness that kept coming due to not being able to sleep all night. The cause was none other than the report card that came out recently. She got Outstanding in all subjects except Transfiguration. She was really bothered by the fact that she was perfect in everything except one thing that she should have been perfect. How could this thing happen? My History of Magic score is better than Transfiguration? No way... there must be a mistake!
Trying to go back to sleep after breakfast was not a good idea. Instead of entering dreamland, she kept staring at her report card lying on the table. Added to the air temperature that was not conducive to sleep, summer was almost here. "Gosh! I can't hold it anymore!"
Ignoring her messy appearance, the girl grabbed her report card and moved out of the dorm, wearing only her uniform without a Gryffindor robe as a usual identity. She came out from behind the Fat Lady painting, walking straight towards the Transfiguration class. She took a breath and knocked on the door without hesitation, "Professor, may I come in? I need to discuss about my grade with you." In her mind was Professor Argento's blue eyes and strict attitude, which made her immediately straighten her hair and uniform to look a little more 'presentable', although she couldn't do anything to help her tired face.
Stepping inside, she gave her formality-purposes introduction, "Professor Perceval-Phelan, I'm Sere Nade, second year of Gr-- uh, oh, you're not Professor Argento..."Mentioning : Professor @Argento Perceval-Phelan

Makaio was sitting cross legged on the floor next to the desk with papers scattered around him, his brow furrowed deeply at one particular one. He picked up the page that drew his concern and pressed his coffee mug to his lips, sipping as he poured his attention over the document. A knock came at the door and he bade the voice to enter without looking up. Setting the parchment down, he looked up to see one of his second year Gryffindor students, one Ms. Sere Nade. She seemed surprised by the fact that he was not the former Transfiguration professor, despite holding lessons at the school for a number of weeks.Date: 18th June 2025

His eyebrows shot up in amusement, gazing up to her from the floor. Even sitting, he was almost as tall, such a mountain was he. “Ms. Nade,” he said raising to his feet and offering a friendly hand for a shake. She seemed both a little nervous as well as shocked. “I am indeed not, Professor Argento. I dare say we look nothing alike. How may I be of service to you?” He asked, as he leaned on the back of his desk should she take his offered hand or not. He gestured for her to take a seat in one of the plush armchairs that he’d never personally be caught dead in, the amount of havoc it would wreak on his back!

Date : June 18th, 2025 Color code : Written|Thought|Said Sere froze in front of the door the moment she saw the new Transfiguration professor. It wasn't as if she'd never seen Professor Kāne before, but she had thought Professor Preceval-Phelan would stay a little longer, at least until this year's academic matters and the report cards were all distributed, before handing over his position to Professor Kāne. If the previous professor was no longer here, how was she supposed to ask about her grades?
No way back, Sere. Just ask anyway.
Aware that she'd kept the new professor waiting for too long, she hurried inside and closed the door behind her. "I-I'm sorry..." Her voice trailed off as she stepped closer timidly. With such a large and tall frame, anyone would've felt intimidated by the professor. The Gryffindor's bravery seemed to have shrunk from a form of lion to a form of cat, meowing instead of roaring.
"Uh, nice to meet you, Professor Kāne. I'm sorry for calling you by other Professor's name earlier. I thought he would still be here until the end of semester." Right, she was being clumsy right now. Lack of sleep must've had something to do about this. She accepted the professor's offer for a handshake---whoa, look at the size difference between their hands! Professor Kāne could clearly have crushed hers and Sere should probably thank him for being gentle. "So, umm, here's the thing..." She sat down on the plush armchair the professor had gestured to. "First thing first, I don't know whether this is entirely on you or partly on the previous professor..." She handed over her report card, "for Transfiguration, I-I got a lot of E's in my homework grades, and the final... I also only got an E. I just wanted to make sure there was no mistake in the grading because..." Sere's right index finger fidgeted on her thigh, "...because I'm supposed to be perfect at Transfiguration." She covered her face in embarrassment. She'd never thought she'd actually spit this out in front of a Transfiguration professor.
Great. Let's just explain everything. He'd already heard half of it anyway.
"I'm supposed to be the best at Transfiguration," She continued desperately. "I used to be the top of my class in math and science at my muggle school. But those grades..." The girl pointed at her report card, "...are making me doubt my capability in science." Actually, Transfiguration in the Wizarding World felt somehow different from science in her muggle school, and Sere had found some difficult things to understand. But should she tell Professor Kāne about it? Or maybe the professor already understood what was her problem?

“Hmm,” Makaio’s brow farrowed as he listened to his student. The professor tapped his desk and all the papers scattered across the floor levitated and neatly arranged themselves into organized piles on top of his desk. “Well, I do not know Professor Argento. Perhaps in passing on my way to the office. The opening came and I accepted. So here I now am.” He was taken aback slightly by how forward this girl was being about who and who did not have his office.Responding to @Sere Nade

She seemed to be debating what to say next and appeared to be a scared rabbit caught in a trap, even though it was her who came to him and the only thing he did was stand casually by his desk. He gave her space to figure herself out and busied himself with playing with a spell he had been working perfecting, turning a whistle into an assortment of other jewelry beyond watches. He almost had the secret sauce for the expansion but hadn’t quite got it to work properly yet. He put the whistle down though when she finally decided to speak.
He almost laughed at her if it weren't for how serious she was. He stifled and then choked down the chortle before it left his throat. However he could not completely erase his bemusement from his eyes as he looked at her. He tried multiple times to answer her concerns but she seemed dead set on getting it all out at one time. Finally she looked like she finished and after waiting a moment to see if she would say anything else, Professor Kāne gave a response, “Perfect, huh?” He continued, “Well…there is a fair bit of muggle science that can help us understand Transfiguration but you should understand by now that muggle primary school education and wizarding education are two very different things and have no real correlation.”
“As for your grades. Let’s have a look,” he said. With a snap of his fingers, a paper materialized in his hands and he ran down the list of names and figures on the parchment. “Well, I do see there are some Es here but nothing seems out of order.” He snapped his fingers again and he had a neat stack of parchments containing her homework that he leafed through quickly. He chucked the pile of papers he was now holding behind them and they vanished into thin air. “I don’t see anything amiss. But I suggest not being too hard on yourself. It only gets harder from here on out. If you let this stop you, you won’t be as perfect as you aim to be. Perfection though is only had after learning from mistakes. You cannot strive to be the best without failure. To fail doesn’t mean you aren’t the best, but only the best use it to grow.”

Date : June 18th, 2025 Color code : Written|Thought|Said "S-So you have never interacted with Professor Argento?" Sere's voice sounded trembling. She hadn't considered the possibility of a succession without any face-to-face meeting between the professors. Perhaps they communicated through syllabuses and teachers' worksheets, or whatever it was that had turned out pretty different from what Sere had thought.
She watched Professor Kāne organize the parchments here and there with just a snap. Many professors did this in class, but this was the first time Sere had looked at it super close; like a private audience, right in front of the professor and it was indeed impressive. "N-no mistake?" Another trembling voice that came out of her mouth, growing quieter, more like a mumble now.
Sere listened attentively to Professor Kāne's explanation, from how muggle sciences and magical sciences -like Transfiguration- had similar basics but were actually two completely different things, to the idea that perfection requires failure in order to actually achieved it. Sere was stunned to hear someone say that she shouldn't be so hard on herself. No adult other than her grandmother had ever reminded her of that. Not even her parents. She began to think that Professor Makaio Kāne wasn't as intimidating as he appeared. The man before her seemed practical... and wise.
"So it's really okay if I'm not perfect?" In the end, Sere still felt some amount of lingering doubts. "You say that, but have you ever failed, Professor? Doing something but not perfectly feels like failing. And failing feels annoying... embarrassing." She tried to look the professor right in the eyes.
