PV Group thread to @Ruthie Greer, @Phaedra Stavrou, @Catriona Staverly, @River Dewlight, and @Jennifer Rome
Boniface waited for the group to assemble, having posted the pairings the night before. He didn't pair them in any specific order, he honestly just drew names out of a hat. It was ironic that this group specifically was composed of mostly Ravenclaw students. Nevertheless, he would not resort them, as fate had brought them here today to do this errand with one another. Perhaps there was a chance that they didn't know of one another and would end up making new friends.

As the group began to gather, Boniface gave them clear instructions. "There are two ways to make a toad house," He began, motioning to his examples. "The first way is by setting the clay pot onto the ground and filling the lower half with dirt. This results in a toad cave." He gestured towards the example of the cave, nodding.

Moving over, he directed their attention towards the second pot. "The other way is a bit more like a house, and involves some more work. You place the clay pot upside down, enclosing it with a circle of rocks. Some space in the clay, enough for a toad to fit in and out of, should be cut out, with some rocks made way for an opening." He picked up the pot, demonstrating how it had been cut.

"Half the challenge is placing it somewhere; anywhere of your choice. Preferably not too close to another one, in order for the homes to be spread out a bit. Good luck, and I will check back in after an hour. I will be in my office should you need me." With that, Boniface left the group to their own devices.

Ruthie was very excited to build a house for toads out by the Herbology greenhouses. Ever since starting Frog Choir, she realized she would be spending more time with reptiles. As such, she may as well learn how to better take care of them. Jorah had signed up exclusively to look after the frogs and toads, but she didn't want to rely on him exclusively. That's not was a president did. A president was knowledgable, thoughtful, and careful. And so, she jumped at the newest errand as an opportunity to learn more about these four-legged creatures who would be playing a major part in her Hogwarts career from now on.

That morning, she wasted little time getting out to the Greenhouses, which had seen already a fair bit of adventure, if you could call it that, on her part. First thing in the term, she'd sought refuge there after burning her hand accidentally in the first errand waxing candles. And only the other week she'd passed there with Lark in the middle of the night, unknowingly headed to find her good friend, Shauna Starr, passed out by the great lake. It was unbeknownst to her if Herbology professor had seen them pass, but still the memory crept up on her upon her arrival. No one would know, but she would she would have sworn she felt hairs stand up at the back of her neck.

Once she was there, she listened to the Professor's instructions. Apparently, there was more than one way to properly construct a toad home. The first option--the toad cave--seemed miles easier. And if she finished quickly, she might have more time for decorating, which was truly intrigued her. After all, frogs had souls like anyone else so they deserved a nice, individual home with some personality. She imagined the patterns she might create with the stones, grouping them artistically by size or color. Perhaps even some flora and fauna might be involved.

Eagerly, she reached to find herself a clay pot. They were all pretty much the same, but still, she stood there for a few moments examining it. She didn't want any toad entering the home she would build to find cracks or holes in its new dwelling. That was simply not what new homeowners looked for, and Hogwarts, of all places, simply had to boast the best frog homes. What else was magic for, if not to bring cheer to the smallest of creatures? Once she had selected what she had determined as a good pot, she looked around for a good patch of grass on which to start her toad home construction.

River Had made her way down to the greenhouses where herbology was usually held. Herbology was actually one of her favourite classes, but today that was not her reason for heading out into the chilly air. She was there to help out with an errand, one she thought was interesting, and also quite adorable. Toad Houses were not anything she’d really thought about before. She had imagined them looking somewhat like the fairy houses she’d heard of people making before, but honestly the ravenclaw didn’t know what to expect.

The group listings had gone up earlier, and River was more than satisfied with the group she was in. Some of the students she’d met before, or at least heard of, others were unknown to her, but she was quite excited to make new connections.
When River arrived inside the respective greenhouse, she noticed the familiar face of Ruthie, whom she knew from the quidditch team. «Hey Ruthie» River gave her a smile as she entered. Looking around at the supplies presented in the greenhouse, River began thinking of possible ways of making it toad-fitting. Not that she had any experience making toad houses before, but she was ready to learn and help out some toads in need of somewhere to hang out. She believed animals don’t deserve a comfortable home any less than people do.

She tucked her small hands into her jumper as she listened to the professor explain how the houses could be properly built. The first option was for sure the simplest one, and it would take the least amount of time, but still River liked the second option better. It seemed more fancy to her, and she had always been one to ignore simple solutions and rather go for the complex ones. So naturally the second version seemed the most right for her.
She quickly scanned the pots placed in front of her, looking for a pristine, unharmed one to use for the task at hand. They were all kept pretty nicely, so she picked up one of the closest pots and looked over at Ruthie, who had also just picked up her pot of choice. «So, which of the two houses are you going for?», River asked curiously, and walked over to a nearby table with her pot. The redhead looked down at her pot placed on the table, before turning her eyes back up at Ruthie. Perhaps they could work together, at least help each other out if they were in need.

It was a lovely day! Such a lovely day to spend time out in the Herbology greenhouses. Jennifer was ecstatic about building a house for toads. She wasn't a huge fan of reptiles, for she very much preferred mammals, but toads and frogs? Heck, they were some unique creatures! Although they were relatively tiny compared to other animals, they were quite strong.  Overall, Jennifer adored animals even if they were rather slimy, hair, pointy, etc. It didn't matter if they were magical creatures or not - they all pretty much intrigued Jennifer. Besides, one could say witches and wizards were also animals. There was much to learn about them!

In the early morning air, Jennifer walked quickly from the Gryffindor Common Room to the Greenhouses. Although she had attended Herbology class several times during the year, Jennifer still had a bit of trouble finding the Greenhouses. She often took her time getting to class and went along with a large group of first years. Half the time, she was just blindly following them as she thought to herself or chatted with a friend. So honestly, Jennifer didn't really know the way very well. Hey! At least it would be some-what of an adventure! Grinning to herself, Jennifer saw a girl turn around the corner, and for some reason, Jennifer had a feeling that the girl was going to the same place as she was. Following the girl, Jenni quickly began to speed up when she saw the greenhouses in the distance. Perfect.

Walking in shortly after the girl before her, Jennifer was surprised to see that the Professor was already there and was giving instruction on what they were doing. Was she late? Perhaps Jennifer needed to actually know where things were at...  Oh well, that would be another day's problems. Listening to the Professor, Jenni glanced towards his examples. A small smile crept onto her face as she saw them. They were both so tiny and cute. Jenni began to feel a lot more thankful that the Professor allowed her to make them. She knew that she would have a lot of fun with the activity today. What a great break from school and reality!

As the Professor described the frog cave, Jennifer nodded. That method seemed fairly easy and seemed  like a great home for toads. The other one, the toad house, seemed a tiny bit more challenging, but all together, didn't seem like a horrible home. The Professor quickly wrapped up and Jennifer began thinking of an idea. Those toads were one luck bunch! Jennifer could already imagine the cute designs her group could make on the clay pots! Grabbing a small pot, she noticed the girl she followed into the Greenhouses walk out onto the grass with another one following close behind.

Hesitating, Jenni thought about approaching the two girls. Well, she was in her group... why not? Jenni walked cautiously towards the girls in a way where she wouldn't scare the other girl. Smiling softly, she gave her a small smile and a wave. Without thinking, Jennifer quickly suggested, "What if we make enough toad houses and form them into a heart?"

It was a beautiful day and Catriona was determined to make the most of it. She'd been cooped up in the Ravenclaw dormitories for a while and it was nice to get fresh air. Plus, she would be helping out the toads. Who didn't like helping out the toads? It was a bit of a stretch, but Catriona was happy to be outside anyway. She made her way down to the greenhouses and stepped inside, breathing in the air. It smelled a bit like petrichor, even though it hadn't rained.

Catriona's face fell a little when she realized she didn't know anyone in the group clustered around the Professor. She quickly joined them anyway, not wanting to be late for any instruction.

The toad cave seemed easiest, she mused, following the rest of the girls outside. She wanted to try the toad house, anyway. They looked rather small and Catriona found herself smiling a little at how cute they were.

She turned to the three girls surrounding her. "I'm Catriona, by the way," she said, accompanying the introduction with an awkward wave. "I think a heart might work if we space the houses far enough apart." She grabbed one of the pots and knelt onto the ground to begin filling the bottom half with dirt. "We can try building a little city too, if you want." She settled the half filled pot into the ground, patting it once for good measure (as if the action would stop it from rolling out of place). "What are your names?"

The pots weren't too heavy, but she wanted to carry that and a trowel to begin with. She could gather more decorative supplies later on. "Hey, River!" Ruthie said as she waved across the other Ravenclaw who was in her group. She had yet to have a sustained conversation with the dhampir, but she knew her from both the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team and the SWAG club, where she had come out victorious in Shuntbumps. If that was any indication, River was a great flyer and would no doubt do very well if they needed her in a match. Ruthie hoped that one day River might be able to get some match time. "Oh, probably the cave one. It seems quickest," she explained to her housemate as she followed across to the table, "I want to leave plenty of time to decorate. You know, make it really nice and cozy for the frogs. It is a home after all. You?" Perhaps it was a bit of an idealistic sentiment, but when it came to the natural world, Ruthie would spare no expense. To her, all creatures of the earth were precious.

The blonde looked across to River, glad to be more properly making her acquaintance. Her fingers around the ridge of her pot, she was still searching for a good patch of grass when she noticed another one of the girls in their group give them a wave. She looked friendly enough and young, perhaps a first year like herself. But Ruthie couldn't help but raise an eyebrow to her suggestion. It wasn't that she wasn't open to suggestions or working together--quite the contrary--but a heart? That was perhaps the most feminine shape they could come up with, save a daisy, and the Scottish tomboy couldn't help but mentally scoff at it. This was a suggestion for the wrong Greer; her younger sister would have been much more open to such a girly idea. Still, she didn't want to seem against the group.

She was about to acquiesce when thankfully another one of the girls spoke up. Catriona she introduced herself and Ruthie had a sneaking suspicion she had seen her the common room in passing. There were so many first years, it was a bit hard to keep track beyond the ones she regularly spoke with. From the girl's wave, she didn't seem the most comfortable in the group, but at least she was taking on somewhat silly query at hand and for that Ruthie was thankful. Catriona didn't veto the heart, but diplomatically suggested a city, which in Ru's mind seemed reasonable. How many frogs there were on the grounds, she didn't know, but it was a reasonable assumption that they should want some company. "A kind of toad village!" Ruthie interjected, a nod to her preference for the city concept. And with that, she knelt down not too far from Catriona, but far enough that if her home's dweller wanted some privacy, they would be able to achieve it with ease. "Ruth," she introduced herself, as she loosened the soil nearby with a trowel, "but most people call me 'Ruthie,' especially the team." She looked across to River. This seemed like a good group to work with so far. Together, they could come up with a nice little frog town, even if from far away, it looked vaguely heart-shaped.

Sorry ladies, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to fully commit to this thread. School is demanding a lot at the moment. I’ll pass and let someone else who was waitlisted go ahead and join so you can have a full group. Sorry again, and have fun

Sooner than expected, several girls were around her - probably her group. Grinning softly, she gave the girl who introduced herself as 'Catriona' a small wave. Jennifer had never seen or been around people who shared the same passions before. This was going to be one interesting day! Listening to the girl's suggestion, she nodded slowly. She wasn't entirely against it... in fact, it was probably a lot better than her idea of a heart. That was kind of lame. A city on the other hand... that was perfect! She was no frog or toad, but if she was, Jennifer would totally go find a home in this 'city'.

Right after the idea of the city was suggested, a girl shouted out the idea of a toad village. Nodding, she let out a soft laugh. That would be pretty cute when she thought about it. The girl soon introduced herself then introduced herself as "Ruthie". Jennifer could have sworn she heard that name before. Maybe a girl in one of her classes? Or was some someone from a house Quidditch team? She would have to figure out what that girl was in later... Then was a pause, and then Jennifer realized that she probably she introduce herself. Smiling softly Jennifer said, "Jennifer." Pausing slightly, Jenni added, "Most call me Jenni or Jen. I really don't mind."

There was four of them so far, so it didn't seem like too bad of a group. She recognized a few of them from her classes, but she never spoke to them. Well... not yet at least. Holding up her pot, she gave them a small grin. "Shall we get our hands dirty now?" She didn't know them so well yet, so they were all pretty much in the same boat. Hopefully they didn't think it was weird of her to enjoy getting her hands dirty and doing things that most girls did not like. Well, if they were going to build toad houses, they were all going to have to get their hands dirty. Doing a good deed for the community and the environment would require them all to put in some more effort and a bit of sacrifice. Well, she was up for the challenge.

Jenni already had a plan for her toad home. Although she wasn't quite sure, she was thinking about trying both methods of creating toad houses. The toad cave was rather simple, but it was unique and well... simple. Sometimes simple was the best. The toad house on the other hand, seems to be like a lengthy process, but it sounded very cool to Jenni. It would require her to be creative with her design and careful, of course. However, before Jenni went on to create her toad house, she wanted to see what the others were going to do. It would be weird if there was a bunch of toad caves and barely any toad houses. Having a variety would be nice!

River looked from her chosen pot to Ruthie, «I mean the cave is cute, but I think I’ll go for the other option», she answered with a little smile. Perhaps it was the more difficult and tedious way of setting up toad houses, but she didn’t mind. Ruthie did have a point though. Decoration would be more apparent in the cave houses as they were probably quicker to set up. Either way, River wasn’t all that great at decorating after all, so her choice remained the same. Also, some variation in house-types couldn't possibly be a bad thing.
The young ravenclaw loved animals, and sometimes preferred their company over humans, which might not necessarily be a healthy thing. It probably had something to do with how animals don't judge, they see you as you, and they don’t think bad of you for what you’re wearing, what you say or what you think. Cliché perhaps, but so be it.

Another girl came in, before River had even caught her name, she came with a suggestion that made River’s face twitch a tiny bit. One could almost see it in the light. A heart? I don’t think the toads care too much what shape the houses are in. The redhead didn’t say anything, she just looked curiously at the girl who newly arrived. Right along followed one more student. She, on the other hand, introduced herself right away, as Catriona. River sent a careful smile in their direction as she fiddled carefully with the pot in her hands. Catriona suggested a city over a heart, which River would gladly back up. Apparently Ruthie also felt for that option, and it would probably make the most sense too. Having a little village for the frogs instead of any other shape.

«River here», she spoke up after Catriona had asked their names. She gave a quick wink to Ruthie as she mentioned the team. The ravenclaw had almost missed the question entirely as her mind drifted off into imagining how their little toad village would turn out. If they were only making a single house each, it wouldn’t really be the largest village.
Ruthie, Catriona and Jennifer, she thought looking over them all. Seemed like a nice group of students, and she was sure they’d all make some cute little houses together. River gave her group a nod, it was time to give some toads a place to live.

«Right, So I’m going to make the house version, not the cave», she picked up her pot and grabbed what she needed to cut the hole in her pot, just as the professor had demonstrated earlier. «What about you guys?», she asked the rest and blew a strand of red hair out of her view. She already knew what Ruthie was planning, with the cave and the decorating, but she was curious as to what the rest were thinking of making.
A little bit of dread crept up in River’s tummy as she began getting ready for the procedure of making a hole in her pot. What if it breaks?, she stood there staring at the pot for a couple seconds. Maybe leaving them all alone wasn’t the most responsible thing to do from the professors side. Then again, River though it must have meant that the professor trusted the group, which she believed he was right in doing. Looking at the pot, the ravenclaw concluded that if it went downhill, she’d just get a new pot and try again, it would not be the end of the world.
Carefully she began cutting out the toad-sized hole for the entrance. The finished product wasn’t at all as smooth and nice around the edges like the one made by MacTavish. It was chippy and uneven, but that was alright, she’d just fix it up or hide it with some stones later on. Once again, she didn’t really believe the toads would mind that much, or even notice a difference in decoration at all. It was nice anyway, the toads for sure deserved to have the best houses possible, whether they would acknowledge it or not.
