31st October 2025 — evening.

As both leafs and clouds darken and dampen the typically warm atmosphere of Hogwarts, the spooky season quickly approaches the Highlands. Contrary to the mundane black robes supported by all students, a dark orange parchment poster consisting of green ink mysteriously appears throughout the halls of the castle and word quickly spreads of a contest. The poster urged students to use their creative minds for an impromptu Costume Contest just before the annual Hallowe'en feast hosted in the castle.

At promptly 5PM sharp, Meiyu strode into the Small Hall, taking her time to decorate the hall and transform it into an autumnal and eerier room, bringing her pet spider Kensington and allowing him to free-roam the hall and begin creating intricate webs in each corner of the hall, as though readying himself for a feast. Whilst the eight legged creature worked his charm, Meiyu swiftly moved to neatly scatter candles and pre-carved pumpkins throughout the small hall, transforming the mundane small hall into the perfect gathering suitable for Hallowe'en get together.

Near the entrance of the Small Hall, laid a small round table consisting of different fabrics and materials, ready to serve the students who wished to join the impromptu costume contest should they arrived without a costume.

Content with the scene she had mocked up, Meiyu departed back to her respective dorm, changing into her own costume for the evening, returning to the hall just before the announced arrival time and eagerly awaited for the arrival of the participants who she had hoped would morph into the dead, her eyes prying around already in search for the 'Deadliest Dressed' with @Fire Davies, who would usher into the hall and aid her in the decision making.

Now, this was an errand Maisie could get behind: a fall costume competition. While previous ones had felt like work or something she was not that vested in, a costume competition was absolutely, completely, and irrevocably something she wanted to do. Unlike the rest, this would be more than fun; it would be joyful with every sketch, every cut of the fabric, every twirl of her skirt.

Ever since she'd seen that first orange poster with its green ink signaling the contest, Maisie had spent time trying to figure out exactly what would be best. She could be a bright and wild magical creature like a Kappa. Or she could be a famous witch like Morgan le Fey. But the design process was about editing, and in this particular case, it was also about winning. After a year of losing at duelling and unofficial Quidditch matches that only dragged on, here was something Maisie had a chance of excelling at if she'd only put in the work.

Well, the work wasn't really the point actually—not wholly. She knew from her own sewing that half the battle was the idea. So, she'd spent a lot of time sketching whatever magical creature she could think of. Until she was struck with a notion: perhaps what her peers—some judges—would not have seen before was something distinctly muggle? It would be boring, but maybe that itself was intriguing and unexpected. After all, Maisie straddled two worlds: the magical and the muggle. If she could present the muggle world to her magical peers with perfection, maybe that would just be enough to tip the situation in her favor.

But even narrowing down her idea to something or someone muggle still left a wide berth for ideas. She must have run through another dozen before settling on something wonderfully mundane: a film character. After all, she had watched plenty of films with her mum to get ideas for design. Muggle films were surprisingly great for that, especially the old ones with their glitz and glamour. So, she'd spent weeks carefully crafting hems on this sleek black dress and that was where she spent most of her time. Finding the accessories wasn't too bad. The pearls were lent from her mum and the cat plushie looked surprisingly like Quigley, which would make a good Christmas gift for Avis in a couple of months. The tiara was from a muggle charity shop. And the cigarette holder was a simple long stick of wood painted over.

Enter into the Small Hall: Holly Golightly.

It was a little in the evening as Maisie adjusted the tiara on her head and walked around the room. The hall was filled with what looked like fresh webs to make it extra spooky. But the candles and carved pumpkins kept it light for those perhaps a little less inclined towards horror. She also noticed an area with fabric and the like presumably for the unprepared. If she had known, she might have contributed something. After all, what fabric you are working with has a lot to say about what you are able to create at the end of the day. Any costumer would want options for sure.

Her glance connected with the hosts and judges @Meiyu Xiang and @Fire Davies as she swung her pearls about her neck. Perhaps they might not know who Miss Golightly was if they weren't familiar with muggle culture, but that was a risk she was prepared to take. It might be subtle and understated, her look, but it was executed to a tee. And that in many ways was the plan: that something a little more ordinary might pop in a sea of what was likely to be some very magical or elaborate costumes.

So, she'd do a twirl about the room and wait for others to arrive. Leaning against a wall, she tried to find an angle where her pearls might catch light from the window, but she'd still have a vantage point on the competition as they started to flow into the Small Hall. Cradling her faux cigarette holder in her hand—like Audrey Hepburn in the film—she would wait and watch.

Costuming was serious business.

Very serious indeed.

Ally Carig was very excited finally an errand that she would enjoy doing and not taking it as an extra sense of work so she finally found an errand that will both be fun and exciting!

Ally had agreed earlier that week Eonaria to dress up with a maching theme and the yheme the went along with wad of a Garden Fairy since they both loved flowers!

Ally just couldn't believe her luck and she happened to have patterns and colors similar to that of the theme already in her trunk so Ally began taking and writing down her measurements to begin the tedious job of Sewing the perfect Garden Fairy Dress one that will hopefully impress her new friend and tutor Nari! After she sewed her dress together and had it looking just perfect, she got dressed up in the beautifully recently sewed up Garden Fairy costume, Ally fixed her hair in a way the halo would look nice and fit properly without getting all tangled into and mess the whole entire look up then she walked out of her common room and headed towards the Gryffindor Tower to wait for Eonaria to come out so they can go down to the small hall together that way Ally wouldn't feel completely out of place and maybe even feel akward since Ally had a habit of always nitpicking her appearance since her mother always told Ally that she needed to dress to impress!

Once Eonaria came out Ally Greeted her with a giant hug and said Hello Nari! How are you doing? It has been a little while since the Autumn Ball And Escape game that I was beginning to miss my friend and tutor! I also love your version of the Garden Fairy it goes well with your skin tone I just hope no one will laugh at us for going with a Garden Fairy theme  !
After they exchanged pleasantries and greetings Ally had asked Shall we go now then before all the good spots are taken? Ally headed down the corridors with Nari close by her and slowly and very careful not to trip and fall or sang her beautiful costume on anything right before the event Ally would hate that her costume got destroyed before she even had a chance to win a contest.

Ally really enjoyed Nari's company she was becoming a real good friend to Ally even though they were in different years! But to Ally that only gave their friendship more hope that they can be friends for years to come!!
Ally just couldn't wait to show off her Costume to the rest of the school she had worked hard on getting the colors together and trying to make it to where it kind of matches with Nari's choice of colors she had
Action: Getting Ready for errand then walking down the corridors to meet up and wait for Eonaria and talking with Eonaria once she comes out

NOVALIE MOON!

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Costuming was the most unserious business ever - which was exactly why this year, Novalie wanted a real fun costume!
Back home, she’d always admired the fascinating costumes displayed in downtown London, wishing she could finally wear something extra herself. But they’d always been too big for her, so her usual choices were mostly limited to being a witch (which, ironically, she already was), a princess (hard pass - why would you even dress as one on a scary holiday?), or avocado.
Not exciting. Not funny.

Last year, the Metamorph had scavenged some of her older clothes and borrowed bits from her friends to design her own costume, inspired by a horror game character her brothers used to play. She still remembered how thrilled she’d been when she managed, for the very first time, to control her hair color so it turned pink! The mask had been entirely homemade too. That evening had been so much fun, especially with Oliver @Oliver Armani by her side - who had shown up wearing pajamas. Doing homework by the campfire. Well, she’d learned to accept his more alarming tendencies.

This year though, the girl really wanted one of those London costumes. She’d begged her mother and brothers by letter to send her something cool and she expected anything - from wildly unhinged to something her mother would consider morbidly inappropriate. What she didn’t expect was for an enormous package to land on the Ravenclaw table the day before the event, filled with piles of mostly yellow and blue-white striped fabric.
Inside had been a letter from one of her brothers Samuel:

"Nova,
those costumes you want are fucking expensive. You ain't getting them.
I met a girl, we’re dating now. She agrees it’s dumb to waste money on fast fashion from people who exploit others just so you can wear it once.
She works part-time at a second-hand shop that’s drowning in leftover fabric. Apparently yellow and blue weren’t exactly trendy last year, so they figured you could have it. I’m sure you’ll make something out of it with your magic.
Also, mom wants you to know that she expects a picture of your self-made costume. Do cameras even work where you're at?
Anyway, have fun.
- Samuel"

And fun she had.
Not immediately, but eventually! After the Matchstick-to-Needle spell actually proved to be useful, Novalie had found a cozy spot near the school entrance to start experimenting with a certain vision - a cartoon her mum used to make her watch as a kid: Bananas in Pyjamas.
It was at least the best she could do with those colors. And honestly? She thought her idea was dope. She’d be the best banana!

After some time and more pricked fingers, a brown-haired boy @Joseph Sims had approached her and joined in the fun! Soon after, a girl she vaguely recognized from the Ravenclaw common room @Charlotte Evergreen sat down to make her own version, too. While they had all been busy sticking buttons on the yellowish banana heads, a curious Slytherin boy @Percival Rocier linked in too, followed by a girl with two differently colored eyes @Alliasta Holista that instantly fascinated Novalie. She couldn’t help showering her with endless compliments!
By the end of it, five surprisingly focused students sat on the floor, all crafting matching Bananas in Pyjamas costumes.
To Novalie, they were all amazing - even if hers, admittedly, turned out looking a little.. cursed. But that made it perfect for Halloween, right?

The next day arrived, and Novalie, full with excitement, was among the first to reach the Small Hall.
She gasped aloud at the sight of the decorations - especially the webs spun by Meiyu’s spider that glimmered in the candlelight, casting long, spooky shadows across the room! The atmosphere was just right!!
“Meiyu!”, Novalie ran straight toward the girl @Meiyu Xiang she admired so much.
Without hesitation, the redhead threw her arms around her in a tight hug, only loosening it enough after a few seconds to beam into her eyes through the costume.
“This is the best! You’re the best! I’ve never met a better party host! The costume contest, the decorations, like, literally everything! How are you even this perfect?! And you look so cool!”
Her gaze then drifted to the boy @Fire Davies near Meiyu. Tilting her head curiously for a moment, Novalie grinned even wider before releasing her friend and pulling him into a hug too, despite having no idea who he even was.
“Are you Meiyu’s friend? Then you’re one of mine too!”

He looked unfamiliar - maybe he was a First-Year?
The Ravenclaw instantly decided she’d help him feel welcome by slinging an arm around his shoulder like they were old pals.
“I’m Nova! So nice to meet you, like, literally!”
Without further ado, she pointed toward another early arrival, a girl @Maisie Gemmell dressed in something that reminded her suspiciously of her old schools principal - which made it both quite impressive and creepy.
“That’s Maisie! She- I- uh..”, Novalie hesitated, “Well, like, we’ve never properly introduced ourselves or anything, but I found out her name after she pulled off this, like, totally wild move once! You know what?”
The Metamorph leaned closer, whispering conspiratorially, eyes wide with admiration.
“She’s probably the most skilled witch I’ve ever met! One time, she, like, made a spell do the complete opposite of what it was supposed to do! I mean - how even?! That’s insane!”
In true Novalie fashion, her attention however instantly got caught up by the next Banana companion entering the hall.
"Oh, hey!!", she waved at them.

XXXHalloween was an... interesting holiday. It wasn't one that Eonaria had ever celebrated, and her family would likely not approve. Just a few days ago, when she had commented on it to her brother, he had merely sighed and said, "well, I suppose I can't stop you," after an extensive pause. Eonaria wondered if that meant he was fine with it or if he just thought she was too far gone to be lectured again.

XXXRegardless, she was here, matching costumes with her friend Ally, and she definitely wasn't about to walk away.

XXXAlly had waited for her outside the Gryffindor Common Room, which Eonaria thought was quite sweet. She had expected to find her at the Small Hall already, but this was a pleasant surprise. "Oh, hello!" she said with a smile, fixing the last of her hair. It had been a little awkward to style properly, but it seemed all that experience forming perfectly-shaped buns from the Autumn Ball came in handy. "Mhm, it's definitely been a while! We should hang out more often. Ooh, I really like the sleeves on your dress!" Eonaria gushed as they walked down the the Small Hall. The color schemes of their outfits didn't really match, but at least the theme was on point.

XXXAs they entered the hall, Eonaria blinked in astonishment at the way it had been transformed. It was usually a bit bland, but now it featured intricate spiderwebs, candles, and carved pumpkins with all sorts of faces. "These spiderwebs are gorgeous!" she exclaimed happily. Halloween still didn't make much sense to her, but she could appreciate the motifs that they used to represent it!

XXXThere were already a few people here, and their costumes were quite ni-- Um, wait... Eonaria did a triple take. I-- huh?!! There was a person dressed as a giant banana wearing pyjamas.

XXXEonaria was highly concerned.

XXXI was unaware that it was possible to dress up as a banana... She glanced back at Ally, a bewildered expression on her face. "Er, anyway..." she coughed, checking that her bow was still on straight, which of course it was. "So, how have you been? Getting along well with that Herbology?" Eonaria beamed.

Costume parties. Little Harvey had of course celebrated Halloween before. Usually elaborate affairs at his grandfather's London townhouse and usually an outfit that was deemed appropriate for the occasion by his caretaker. These get-togethers were always stuffy, boring and full of Larnak's business partners that always involved brandy and business discussions. Hardly exciting for a little boy and far from the stories Harvey had heard of muggle kids running around like mad while they trick-or-treat. This, along with his own tendency to be a stick in the mud, had left the boy with a rather blasé attitude toward the holiday. It was childish. It was corny. All things Harvey had told himself along the way until he had seen the posters for this particular costume contest.

What had changed? Well, Harvey himself of course. Where the boy had once reveled in the gray and bland he now swam in an ocean of color. Not that anyone should mistake him for a flamboyant person. He was still as practical and pragmatic as he had ever been, but something inside him had changed over the summer. The artist within had awoken and with it an appreciation for flare. While this newfound sense usually had him wanting to dress others in the brightest of hues, what better excuse to let your inhibitions down and flaunt your creativity than Halloween?!

Now, the only hiccup to this evening's festivities was a bit of contractual obligation that needed to be attended to. No getting around it unfortunately and much to Camille's dismay Harvey had shown up to "accompany" him to the contest. There was surely a fair amount of protest and complaining as they had made their way to the small hall or at least silent fuming along the way, but hopefully the Ravenclaw would see the benefit of making a splash tonight. Not only would Harvey be showing up with the uber-talented De Varenne boy as his partner for the contest, it would also be a chance for the pair to be seen together by their peers. Brain, brawn and beauty all wrapped up together when they stood side by side. Assuming he could get through the near impenetrable barrier Camille had erected between them. Give it time, slow and steady. Harvey shook away the thought and prepared his entrance.

The requested clothing items had been shipped and Harvey had put his finishing touches on them. A plum colored tail coat, brown slacks and a bat shaped bow tie. Surely an outfit that would land him at the bottom of the best dressed list, but the orange colored potion he had in his pocket would be the pièce de résistance! "Let's go." He requested to his date. As Harvey crossed the threshold of the small hall, he would raise the potion bottle to his lips and gulp it down. Soon an incredible pressure would begin to build inside his head. Something was wrong! Surely he would pop!

Nope. His head just transformed into a pumpkin.

CLACK CLACK CLACK, the sounds of the heels hitting the floor reverberated through the corridors of Hogwarts as Fire stumbled through the halls rather ungracefully with shaking legs. Walking in these heels were harder than it looked, why had he agreed to this again? The agreement being to match costumes with his fellow prefect, Meiyu Xiang, acting as the co-host to the event it only made sense to match of course, people had to know they meant business. But why had he agreed to the chosen costumes in question? That's what he wondered as he sputtered out some of the synthetic blonde hairs from his mouth, readjusting the rather excruciatingly itchy wig.

The idea had been great of course, genius even, but great in idea not in action. Him and the Gryffindor Prefect were dressed accordingly as the main characters of the movie White Chicks, a hilarious classic comedy beloved by many muggles alike. A common interest him and Meiyu both shared, so it was something that was easily agreeable, but maybe he would've changed his mind if he knew how uncomfortable the outfit would be. He sighed to himself, it was too late to turn back now, he had already invested an hour in getting ready, even getting a friend to do his make-up for him to truly catch the essence and commit to the costume.

Meiyu and Fire had become mutuals because he was friends with her younger brother who just also happened to be attending as a first year alongside Fire, the two had hit it off pretty well. But honestly with Fire you either loved him or absolutely hated him, he found there not to be many too many in-betweens when it came down to it. Probably really his own fault, but he'd never admit to that, if the Shaq could have haters, it made sense for him to have a few too.

Why now would he be cowardly and waste all the hard work? Also not to mention he couldn't just leave Meiyu hanging, there's TWO white chicks not uno, DOS chicks. A duo. A- I think you get the gist of it. Fire stopped by a window quickly to check his reflection, readjusting his blonde wig that had somehow gone side-ways - most likely from how he had been walking-. He had to admit he looked good, he did some final fixes to his hot-pink jacket and straightened his back as if charging back his proud demeanor before he set off. Clutching his fake prada purse with a tiny plush poodle in it like it was a trophy.

He strut into the small hall, well the best he could with his terrible shaky heel-walking skills, waving at the other prefect as he made his grand entrance. "Yo what's up Meiyu?" Fire said casually as he approached the girl to stand by her, her denim matching while contrasting his pink fit.

The Hufflepuff scanned the room around him appreciating all the effort she had put into decorating the place for the event, maybe he should've contributed more? Like he had brought some bags of candy, but also buying candies in this economy was... not ideal, he just placed the bags onto the table with the other assorted snacks. She really had gone all out.

"The decor is crazy! How'd you manage all this?" He said taking to stand by her side again, whilst they waited for the arriving guests. Attempting at light conversation.

He started to take mental notes of the costumes as they entered giving a polite smile or wave whenever it seemed prompted. When suddenly, a very excited... Banana in pajamas walked in? The banana ran immediately to Meiyu showering her in very deserved compliments and hugging the living daylights outta her. But then those dark dots for eyes turned to him unexpectedly, he hadn't expected to be next on whoever this was's hitlist, but here he was being treated with the same affection as he felt like he was being crushed. Wow they were strong!

Fire sputtered in shock barely catching what the costumed attacker said, before he was released he lungs barely having time to rebuild themselves before their arms quickly found around his neck putting him into what he thought similar to a headlock, akin to something he would do to his little siblings.

“I’m Nova! So nice to meet you, like, literally!” The voice rang friendly through the yellow fabric.

"You too, I'm Fire," He said after clearing his throat with one side of lips curling into a smile, regaining his composure as he reciprocated throwing his arm around Nova's shoulder as well. "How you guys know each-other?" Fire said gesturing his hand with the purse between both the girls, he meant it nicely when he thought they didn't seem to quite match each-other's energy, maybe opposites attract type situation?

“That’s Maisie! She- I- uh..”, Novalie said pointing out the girl who had slung her pearls earlier, as who he presumed to be Audrey Hepburn or some other early muggle actress, “Well, like, we’ve never properly introduced ourselves or anything, but I found out her name after she pulled off this, like, totally wild move once! You know what?”

"Niiiiiceee, and no I didn't know that," Fire chuckled slightly before the other's dropped to a whisper, as if telling him something off limits.

“She’s probably the most skilled witch I’ve ever met! One time, she, like, made a spell do the complete opposite of what it was supposed to do! I mean - how even?! That’s insane!”

The boy did the best he could to bite back the growing rumble of laughter in his throat, "Oh really?" he finally said with a small crack smile on his face, as he entertained the idea. "That is pretty insane, how does someone even do that? Didn't even know someone could do that! You're right maybe she's the next Einstein of wizards."

Did this girl ever run out of energy? Whatever it didn't matter, but he knew he definitely liked her vibe and she was unintentionally funny, something that was a dying thing nowadays, or at least one what Fire had observed thus far, but who knows he could've been just too quick to judge.

"Wait so it's like there's ... a banana gang?" Fire laughed through his words as she waved down another banana. He had to be honest, the bananas in pajamas crew so far had his favorment, BUT he should wait a bit longer before becoming biased.

Those words I've said thousands of times in my mind, You got the best of me
Fire Davies | Bua Buddhadasa
Dress for the Dead. Errand
The Great Hall was filled with the warm light of the floating candles, their light dancing over the long tables full of pumpkins, treats, and glasses of sparkling juice. Above them, the magical ceiling showed a tempestuous night, the clouds dark and swirling and the shades appearing to be alive. Angel came in through the arched door, her orange dress shining in the candlelight, the tiny black bats embroidered on the fabric looking as if they were moving and might fly away at any time. Her stockings, which also had little bats, made her feel as if she was wearing a piece of the night itself.

She stopped for a second and looked around to see everything. The air was filled with the smell of pumpkin roasting and sugar, with a slight metallic taste of magic. Even if the Great Hall normally seemed to be a safe place, tonight it was full of different energy—of anticipation, excitement, and mischievousness. Angel brushed her dress over her legs and made a fist with her hand. This was not her plan. The young lady's garment was but a last-minute idea, and she was hardly dressed up for the occasion. However, here she was, among the splendor of Hogwarts, and it was… fitting, somehow.

Her glance went over the tables, and she saw the place full of laughter and noise. She could see herself going on the stone floor and the bats on her dress flying off silently. Her heart was beating faster, not from fright, but from opportunity. This was her moment.

Angel advanced, the motion of her dress following her. The bats appeared to move as she did, as if they were living creatures, holding onto her arms and legs, and thus, they were waiting for her to take off at any time. Transforming the twirl into one more dramatic, and visualizing the shadows around her, she felt a bit of excitement. She slowly raised her hands, the bats flying from her dress and coming to a Great Hall, the tiny winged silhouettes lighting on the candlelight and going here and there.

“Originality”, she said quietly to herself, referring to the silent and common rule of every costume competition that she had read. “Originality is not the matter of luxurious fabrics. It is the matter of faith.” And she believed—inherently in her dress, in her bats and the magic of the moment.

Quietly she chuckled at herself while attempting some hand movements which showed the direction of an invisible bat swarm. Her shadow on the ground was getting longer and seemed to unite with the candlelight giving the impression that a hundred tiny wings were going up and down in perfect rhythm. Angel raised her chin and permitted herself a slight smile. Tonight, the Great Hall was her stage and the magic she could create was the only one there to see it.

Angel moved to the center stage with the bats on her dress as the focus of the attention. Deliberately, slowly, she spun, sensing the movement go through her outfit. With every turn of her hand, and tilt of her face, she made the world see that she had brought a live swarm of night creatures to the sky. Her final moment was captured in the gesture of a single hand raised, the other lightly placed on her hip, and the thrilling idea of the crowd’s standing ovation resounding in the hall, even though, it was all in her mind.

Angel momentarily shut her eyes, took a deep breath. The Great Hall looked like it was alive with a low hum around her, the clouds on the magical ceiling moving apart slightly to make way for the sliver of moonlight. After which, she opened her eyes and let her stare wander over the enormous space and saw herself flying over the tables silently, the queen of bats, of course, gliding over Hogwarts.

The time seemed to slow down as she was still there, in the middle of the hall, revelling in the feeling—the exhilaration of being observed, the delight of doing without others' expectations, and the silent pride from turning something spontaneous into something magical. Again, she raised her arms, and her bats "flew", this time, as she let go of the control, the exhilaration was soft but it was there nevertheless, and as though the night had surrendered to her will.

In the end, Angel lowered her arms and waited for the dress to return to its usual shape as she stood still. The room was as if it had been holding its breath and now about to release it, the floating candles went down a little as if bowing to her presence. Once more, she took a step forward, and as she spun, the bats and the orange of her dress reflecting the candlelight.Very quiet smile was there on her lips. The presence of others did not matter at all tonight. Tonight, the magic was her own.

Angel stayed in that moment, the Great Hall deserted, and she comprehended something easy but deep: magic was not always found in spells or potions. Sometimes, it was in the courage to believe, to personify a bit of whimsy, and to let yourself—bats, dress, and all—take flight.

Tonight, Camille was the Devil. Not the cheap Halloween kind with plastic horns and fake blood—his version wore a red suit tailored within an inch of perfection, a pair of horns resting effortlessly on immaculate hair, because he refused to sacrifice style for comedic relief. Unless it had been a “hottest wins” kind of contest, his main interest in this competition wasn’t to come out on top for once, but to show up, looking the best. Presence. That was it. While the dress-up might not earn him first place, there had been some thought put into his costume. Enemies in all glory, the real symbolism laid in what the figure represented. Indulgences, temptation and desires— yes, that sounded just like him.

Speaking of enemies, whatever little excitement he’d felt about the errand was immediately ruined when he spotted the, unfortunately familiar, tiny figure anticipating his arrival outside of the Ravenclaw tower. Harvey Barrows had ascended all the way from the dungeons, ready to escort him to the Small Hall. It was almost flattering. Camille froze mid-step, the sight of him making his stomach drop. Of course. Almost a month had passed since he’d been assigned this assistant of sorts— a month where Camille had more or less succeeded in avoiding him like the plague. He must have gotten cocky. Too cocky. Clearly. Otherwise he wouldn’t have made such a colossal blunder that now left him forced to accompany the boy as his date. The humor of a Halloween contest felt morbid now that the actual Devil had caught up with him. How Harvey had even found out Camille planned to participate was a mystery—and one he had absolutely no patience to solve.

“You again?” he groaned with a glare, though it didn’t seem to deter the half-goblin in the slightest. “Haven’t you given up already?”

Harvey’s previous words answered the question for him: Gold is always worth it. Though some part of him wondered if gold was the sole reason. Camille had not been informed about the details of this arrangement, how much he was paying Harvey and his grandfather for his services. His father did not pay him to play dress-up, that much was for certain. Which meant there had to be something else behind it-- a personal motive. Regardless of his skepticism and now foul mood, Camille allowed himself to be escorted by Harvey to the Small Hall—though not without his fair share of begrudging sighs and narrowed side-eyes along the way. Unbelievable. After a few corridors of quiet fuming, he eventually gave the other boy a once-over to gauge his own costume. What was he even supposed to be? Camille thought skeptically, his pure-blood upbringing offering no recognition of any iconic character that wore a bat for a bow tie or a striped frock. He couldn’t bring himself to ask, however, turning his dreadful gaze forward instead.

Reaching the hall, Harvey urged them inside before producing some bottle that he chugged from without hesitation. Camille slowed his steps to put some more distance between them, watching warily, waiting for the potion—whatever it was—to take effect, skeptical it was meant merely to quench sudden thirst. A moment passed before Harvey's head had fully morphed into a pumpkin. Relieved that it hadn't been a disgusting or smelly surprise awaiting him, Camille relaxed. Despite himself, the sight of Harvey as a pumpkin was comedic. With the face he associated with his personal prison nowhere in sight, he didn't mind it as much. In fact, it might even be an upgrade.

Entering the hall, Camille glanced around the room at the various costumes summoned, his expression shifting slightly with each new impression. A subtle smirk stretched wider on his face when he, once again, was assured no one would outshine him in terms of beauty. Some of them were... interesting. Bananas in pajamas, some trashy, white chicks recreation. The reference was lost on Camille. Creative, albeit nothing he would have ever been caught dead in. To each their own. The only ensemble that even caught his approval was a girl in a long, sleek black dress, hair pulled back with a pearl necklace. Faux, probably, but the overall image was far more enticing than bananas. Camille did a double take, recognizing the girl from that summer. Wasn't that Maisie, the designers daughter? Camille made a funny face at the realization. What a small world.

Before it was too late, and too many people he knew recognized him, he turned to the pumpkin Harvey again. “Rules,” he announced dramatically—though the words faltered when he really looked at the pumpkin. Talking to a walking vegetable felt… strangely odd.

Trying to not get distracted by those black hollows for eyes, he continued. "Try to not embarrass me. Whatever amusing details father has told you about, not a word about it. D'accord?"

Evony had seen the dark orange parchment posters with green ink and promptly decided she was going to ignore them. Good. Let others go and be silly before the feast. That only meant more quiet for her in the common room to study. She had absolutely no interest in partaking in any kind of festivities. In fact, if she could skip the feast too, she would... but she had to eat (and the food was always absolutely fantastic).

She was doing a pretty good job of ignoring; that is, until excitement began to build around the castle. Suddenly, everyone was talking about the costume contest. Chatter about coordinating outfits, girls borrowing material for custom looks, young students begging others to cast a spell to cut, mend, or color their costume. Well, it didn't matter. Evony didn't have a costume anyway. She didn't have money to buy one, and she wasn't a fashion designer.

Ah, but then she overheard how there would be materials provided for them to make their own costumes, and many students would be dressed like the dead. Like the dead? As in... scrappy? Well now, Evony could probably do scrappy... Slowly, over the next few days, she convinced herself. Alright. She would go to this stupid pre-party (or was it a "wake"?) and attempt to make a costume. Who knows, maybe she might actually win something?

Evony wandered into the small hall a bit after the festivities had began. The room was already filling with other students. She looked around, impressed by the decor. Those almost looked like real spider webs... Actually, the very real bugs caught in a few of them indicated they were real spider webs. Nicely done. She smiled. Walking through the room, Evony had to admit that some of the students' costumes were pretty impressive too. She noticed a girl that was finely dressed, pearls and all; the girl seemed to want to be noticed too. She passed by a group of students dressed as... bananas? And there was a boy, dressed in purple, with an actual pumpkin head... Halloween at Hogwarts sure was something else.

Finally, Evony spotted the table of fabrics. She felt a bit out of place in her plain robes, but perhaps she might be able to make something of all this... stuff?
