Wizard Chess: The Gauntlet
action: tbdThe king remained so effortlessly stunning as he hid behind the giants that guarded him. He whispered to the ones surrounding him. “Let’s keep this going! I like that you are all serving as my guards, just make sure to wallop everyone who thinks they can get to me, or I’ll set your beds on fire and pour dragon manure over it so the stench lives eternally in your dorm.” He threatened casually.
Clark wanted to remain still but as strategically dumb as he was, he would’ve probably gone off the deep end and found himself incapacitated, probably in the hands of Prat beating him up like a ridiculous bully that found out he kissed his girlfriend.
Speaking of kissing someone’s girlfriend, maybe after this chess match, he should go looking for someone to kiss. Hopefully someone that hadn’t heard about his reputation. One could hope, and one could desire that kiss. A teenage boy could only want so much, especially when they feel they’re being isolated, even if they weren’t. He stared at the back of Landon’s and smiled. He stared at Ava and flipped her off. He stared at Astra and made a little chicken gesture. He growled again at Livia and even muttered a few profanity words in her direction.

To Livia, strategy grew far more difficult when one was actually deeply involved in the formations. She had never properly considered this. It was difficult to visualise where everyone was on the board in relation to each other, especially when compared to what it might have looked like if it were a normal chessboard. Livia couldn't help but feel a bit small and insignificant as everyone moved around her.
However, her line of sight right towards Black's king proved fruitful. Her aim and intentions were true; it turned out to only be quick action from Black's rook that prevented something that could have been nearly catastrophic. Livia narrowed her eyes and was unable to fully hide the scowl that pulled at the edges of her mouth. The ostentatious king's profanity furthered the souring of her expression, but what irked her the most was that the red-haired rook had intervened. She pressed her lips together, forcing herself to stay silent, to keep her own bitter thoughts to herself.
Let her be the better person who did not lose her temper. It would not befit her status to stoop to the goblin boy's level—metaphorically, of course, as she did stand over a foot taller than him. The reminder that to see him, she had to look down on him, helped re-affirm Livia's confidence.
Remaining on the sidelines, Livia cast her gaze around the board, surveying everyone's new positions. Her eyebrows drew lower upon seeing Astra's less-than-ideal position, and when she realised how far across the board Prat was, her breath caught in her throat. White had been doing so well, and although she dearly hoped the game would remain in their favour, she also couldn't help but wonder if their strategy was falling apart.

Wizard Chess: The Gauntlet

For holding the title of Rook, Blaize had felt more like a pawn. As plans were deliberated in a quick hush-hush of whispers he did everything in his power to not blurt out, but failed.
"You want me to do WHAT?!"
Alarm bells rang inside his head. Right.. okay it was all just a role, a mask he had to wear. A part he had to play. Waiting on high alert for the next moves to be made, he saw a beady-eyed girl on the White Team's side align herself in a.. questionable position glaring daggers at their King, Clark. Sure he had called him a Queen last round, but well, he wouldn't need a protector if he could just--
"WATCH OUT--!"
The Snake yelped, taking the brunt of the attack which occurred mere seconds later. This game was quite fast paced, and he was having to be on his toes. Granted the boy was older than him, their height proved the opposite. It wasn't hard to guard the little fellow, and for that, he was glad as his own body mass wasn't large by any means. A small grunt escaped the boy as he returned to his spot only to have the gentle hands of one of their Bishops, Landon gave him some encouraging words and soothe his ego, body, and mind all at once. Giving the Hufflepuff a curious glance and a curt nod, it was back to strategizing again. How much longer would he have to be a meat shield? How much longer would he even be in the game?
Under his dark gaze, he spotted the White Team stepping closer. Like vultures about to descend upon a carcass. Except he was the carcass. And they were about to be ripped apart by the looks of it. Taking a deep gulp to swallow down some of the bile that rose in his throat, The younger boy puffed out his cheeks, smoothed his clothes and inclined his chin towards the face of danger.

26 September 2025 (19:07 )Ara would’ve liked to say she had this under control. She didn’t. Not entirely.
The opening of the round had gone exactly how she wanted -- take a shot, rattle their knight, maybe knock him off balance. But no, apparently life had other plans. Her spell veered wide like it had something better to do, and instead of a clean hit, she found herself eating counterstrikes from two different directions. Mamori and Aodhan both had the nerve to answer her fire with fire, and Ara staggered back.
She cursed under her breath while forcing herself upright. Her robes smoked faintly where Aodhan’s attack had clipped her side, and she brushed at the fabric like it was lint. Nothing permanent, but humiliating all the same. If anyone on her team so much as snickered, she’d hex them after the match.
The board was no longer the clean grid of strategy they'd started with. Camilla was probably having the time of her life on the sidelines. But Ara? She thrived here too, even if she’d never admit it aloud.
Meanwhile, Blaize had just thrown himself in front of a killing shot like some sacrificial pawn, and Landon was working overtime patching him up. Their formation still held, but it was fraying, threads pulled taut.
She glanced at the rather loud white knight. If Aodhan wanted to gloat, she’d give him a reason to choke on it. And if Clark wanted to keep prancing around with threats of dragon manure … she'd put some of that in his breakfast.

What in the name of Merlin was happening? She had long forgotten who everyone on the other team were. Even like that, she sensed she was in danger, judging by the way the White team were all too close to her. She wasn't a genius, but that seemed like a bad idea.
It would be wiser to see which spot she should go to next, than to just stand around watching, but she didn't know where to go. Maybe next time she ought to remember who was who. She couldn't tear her eyes off the others, because they were doing some pretty crazy things. For one, Blaize had put himself between a Slytherin from the other team she knew not, and the king. It wasn't a pretty sight much, but Landon, a black rook, was patching him up. Ara was under attack again, but it seemed to be under control. It was all so fast, she didn't really see anything clearly. She herself was now in an L-shape from a pink haired person. She wondered if she could take him out. It would be fun to duel someone. But she really did hope her life wouldn't end at 11 years old.
If she had to start joining in the fight, which she hoped she won't, she'd have to use spells she hadn't used out of class before. She wasn't the type who would fire spells in the corridors after class just for the fun of it.

Round 2 began with both knights simultaneously deciding to attack completely different targets, making their earlier posturing look rather ridiculous in hindsight. At least Mamori's attack landed successfully, while his opponent not only missed entirely but somehow managed to injure herself in the process. "Impressive technique," he offered with mock solemnity while depolying what he hoped was his most earnestly appreciative expression.
Mamori had the luxury of critiquing others' performance mainly because this round had turned out to be low-maintenance for him. Attack completed, target injured as intended (the damage might have been minor, not that he'd ever admit to calling it minor) and now he was following team orders to stay put where he was. His would-be dueling partner and most of the black pieces seemed equally stationary — tis almost painful to watch at this point, were they really planning to spend the whole match forming a human fortress around their king to leech off his aura buffs with only a few brave souls venturing beyond? Mamori could make another comment about their king's apparent spinelessness, but he'dd already covered that extensively last round. Absolutely not because his writer had run out of creative insults.
The current situation had turned rather uncomfortable as he stared down the same knight from last round. Hopefully his earlier taunting hadn't pushed her too far because the last thing he needed was dealing with a rage-fueled critical hit to the face. He didn't just plan to win but intended to survive long enough to see his team's victory; heroic midmatch sacrifices werent part of his agenda.
"Uhh, since neither of us is moving anytime soon, maybe try that duel again next round? Actually fight each other this time?" The hesitant suggestion was directed at his self-inflicted-injury-prone opponent across the board.xx ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

October 2025, Duelling ClubPieces moved in a blur, and a few steps across the chessboard lead Elisa to a new perspective. The black team had formed a tight-knit group, an orderly block on black and white squares before her eyes. Any person would notice, however, that the white team seemed to have followed an opposite strategy. Instead of grouping themselves tightly around their king, the white chess pieces had moved in all directions and found themselves scattered across the chess board. One of them, none other than Elisa's duelling captain, found himself quite literally on the other side of the chessboard, in 'enemy territory', if one could call it such.
Though a few seconds of thought revealed that Prat was in no real danger, Elisa was still quite thankful that she was not on the front line. The black team was not looking too friendly, or perhaps it was Elisa's imagination.
The rest of the time was used to contemplate her own positioning and come up with the closest thing to a plan she might follow in this chaotic variant of a chess game. She concluded again that she was rather safe from any danger, though the girl directly in front of her did seem to be able to direct an attack her way.
