Sorting Ceremony 2025 - 2026

I can't say I was paying attention to the speech or the song. I didn't mean to be rude but i was tired and cold from the boat ride across the lake and i'd much rather eat and pass out that listen to a giant hat sing, Thank you very much!

My mind had wandered onto the topic of Dinner when i heard the principal, headmaster guy's voice call out my name. "Rhys, Louis."

I nearly trip over myself coming up to the stool. Well, that looks really rickety, they should probably fix that soon.' I think as a teacher puts the hat on my head. It's surprisingly cozy; ten out of ten would definitely nap here, though it kinda smelt like mothballs. then I hear a voice speak inside my lead.

Louis Rhys.... hmmm, Why I think I meet your mother here very many years ago. My mother? what house was she in? I think. Well, we're not here for her Deary but if you must know she was a ravenclaw. Now... where to place you... hmmmmmmmmm

My leg bounces up and down and I resist the urge to ask if it's okay -the hat, not the stool, the stool was not okay at all- when the hat speaks up again, this time out loud.

"Ahhh Yes," It bellows. "Better make it.... HUFFLEPUFF!"

There's yelling and cheering everywhere. My robes sparkle and turn yellow. Guess those are hufflepuff colors.

Wait, what table is it?!

Aaron lined up with the other first-years at the entrance of the Great Hall, feeling his heart hammer in his chest with every name called. The torches fixed along the walls cast a warm glow on the colorful banners hanging from the ceiling, and the murmur of older students sounded like a distant ocean. When the first name echoed through the hall, Aaron clasped his hands to his chest, trying to steady his nerves.

One by one they stepped forward: “Janet Flannel Roll!” “Angelo Angelov!” “Lou Rhys!” Each round of applause made Aaron’s anxiety climb another notch. He closed his eyes for brief moments, imagining what it would be like to be placed in each house. “Gryffindor is for the brave… Ravenclaw for the clever… Slytherin for the ambitious… And Hufflepuff for the loyal,” he murmured to himself.

At last, a Professor's voice rang out: “Aaron Stone!” The echo of his name swept across the hall, and he felt his legs tremble. He drew a deep breath, took hesitant steps to the wooden stool, and knelt down. The Sorting Hat, worn and frayed with age, was carefully placed atop his dark hair.

The instant the fabric touched his head, thoughts raced through his mind. Hat: “Interesting… So much courage hidden beneath that calm exterior…” Aaron (thinking): “Does my shyness outweigh my bravery?” The Hat whispered again: “You value justice and friendship above all else…” He remembered growing up surrounded by books yet longing for a true place to belong. Hat: “Ah, yes, kindness and patience… it is in Hufflepuff that your heart lies.

After a few seconds that felt like an eternity, the Hat declared aloud: “HUFFLEPUFF!” A roar of approval and applause filled the hall as Aaron rose, relieved and radiant. He hurried to join his new housemates, the warmth of their welcome making real the feeling of finally belonging.

Willow walks up as her name is called. She’s sure she’ll be in Ravenclaw, since she’s so curious and intelligent… right?
But any House will do. Any House should provide Willow with enough foundation to succeed in the Wizarding world.
As Willow wakes from her thoughts, she takes a seat on the rough wooden stool at the front the room. As the Sorting Hat is placed on her, she could feel it struggle.
“Certainly not Gryffindor. No sense of honor here. You don’t have any desire to be brave. Putting you in Hufflepuff would be a bit of a shame. You don't work nearly as hard enough, nor are you particularly loyal. No offense,”
None taken, thought Willow nervously.
“But Slytherin and Ravenclaw. Hmm. You really are as curious as you think you are. I would even say wise beyond your years. You obviously studied a lot, and you’re undoubtedly intelligent.”
So… Ravenclaw?
“Hmm. But all your curiosity, all your creativity and wit, really serves a higher purpose.”
Willow is confused.
And what do you think that is?
“Recognition. You see, you care about knowledge a lot, but you don’t learn it simply for the sake of knowledge, do you? No. You’d stop learning the moment nobody can see your genius. Isn’t that right, Willow?”
Willow doesn’t say anything. She isn’t sure if she agrees.
“After all, you are far too ambitious and prideful for me to put you in Ravenclaw. So SLYTHERIN it is!”
Willow stands up in shock and carefully places back the Sorting Hat before practically sprinting over to the Slytherin table.
True, she didn’t expect this today. True, she was a bit disappointed. But no matter. She wouldn't let herself think any negative thoughts today, not the first night of Hogwarts when everything was so magical. She would fit in with the Slytherins. Make friends, study hard, and succeed. From then on, Willow Laurent was officially a Slytherin, and whether that was for better or worse was yet to be determined.

Mika looked around the Great Hall when she first entered, taking in all the students sitting at the long tables. The hall was even bigger then what she had imagined and bigger then what her parents had told her.
It didnt take long before her name was called and she hurried to sit on the chair. At first she was very exited to see what house she would be in, but all the students looking at her from everywhere made her a bit nervous now that she thought about it. Her parents had both been Huffelpuff, so Mika hoped to get sorted into the same house just because she believed that what would be the right thing.
"You can have quite an attitude when someone doesnt get you and you dont seem to have a lot of patience for others, cant be Huffelpuff then". There her hopes go, but she wasnt surprised all that much either. After all she did not like listening to others. "Maybe Gryffindor? You do seem to have a lot of courage, then again you dont always go the way you think is right, all because it seems to dangerous to you" That offended her a little, she did think she always did the right thing, but she also knew that she easily got scared even if she did do things anyways, sometimes it just got too much for her. "Ah yes, you have a lot of imagination and pick up on new things very easily. You dont like learning, but that usually doesnt stop you from knowing a fact or proofing your opinion is right. Better be RAVENCLAW!"
Cheers errupted from the Ravenclaw table when Mika walked over to them and sat down next to some other first years. Really, Ravenclaw? Mika wasnt so sure that that was the correct thing to do, but then again the Sorting hat was right about everything he had said about her.

Aurelia slowly walked over to the wooden chair. She sat down and began examining the tables. Especially the Slytherin table. Aurelia wasn't worried. On the contrary, she was extremely confident. She was a Slytherin. How could she be so sure? Because her entire family was Slytherin. She knew she would be a Slytherin, or so she hoped. Aurelia wasn't usually very confident in her feelings, but when it came to this, she was, for some unknown reason, confident. She was so sure of herself. Even she hadn't expected to be so sure.

The Sorting Hat was placed on her head. Aurelia waited patiently for the Sorting Hat to consider. Her gaze, however, lingered on the magnificent Hogwarts walls and tables. Truly, this place was truly a place of enchanting beauty. Just as perfect as her parents had described. Sorting Hat thought for a moment. Then spoke. "Hmm... You're cunning. Very cunning." Aurelia smiled slowly. "And you're ambitious... You're brave, but you're not a Gryffindor." Aurelia, however, continued to listen, her gaze still fixed on the Slytherin table. "Well... Aurelia, you're definitely a SLYTHERIN!"

Aurelia's smile turned into a grin. The Sorting Hat was removed from her head. She walked to the Slytherin table to applause. She sat down slowly and took a deep breath, happy to begin her Hogwarts adventure.

DATE: Mon. Sept 1st, 2025 — INTERACTIONS: brief mentions
Rosaline Everhart, Solomon Lear
WORD COUNT: 420 — BANNER: Graci Laren

It had been such a long day of traveling to Hogwarts that Leo was growing more tired by the minute. However his eyes widened and he perked up again as soon as he walked through the doors with the other first years into the great hall. It was quite grand, there was so much to look at that he wanted to take it all in. He found himself looking around throughout most of the speech the headmaster gave until he heard the song of the sorting hat. The famous hat he heard about from his parents and the twins. Now he would find out what house he would truly be in. With his parents and older siblings and even his grandparents on his father’s side all being Ravenclaw it would be a shock to them all if he didn’t end up there as well. However he did have a cousin who graduated that was Slytherin and a 5th year cousin that was in Hufflepuff so maybe he would end up somewhere different. Wherever he ended up in he would be happy and do his best that was for sure. Leo knew he had to live up to the high standards of the twins who were always at the top of their class and practically excelled everywhere.

He waited patiently as the headmaster began listing names off one by one, students filing up when it was their turn and leaving swiftly after being given their house. He recognized a couple of the students being given their houses from the trip to Hogwarts. Leo also noticed the girl he met at camp, Rosaline, get sorted into Gryffindor. Soon it was his turn. When he heard his name called his stomach suddenly got butterflies from being nervous. He quickly walked up to the stool and took a seat and the sorting hat was placed on his head. The hat hummed softly, thinking about where to place him. Leo could feel his heart beating so hard that he thought it would beat right out of his chest. “RAVENCLAW!” The sorting hat yelled out for the entire room to hear, the long table of Ravenclaws clapping for their new recruit. He looked at the headmaster who offered an encouraging smile. Leo saw his robes change to have the Ravenclaw blue color and made his way over to sit with his new housemates. His family will definitely be happy to hear he was placed in Ravenclaw when he sends his first letter back home to them.

The line of names was long, and Isadora was getting tired of standing. She stood by as children walked up, sat on the stool, and were sorted. Some smiled, some stared. She thought she'd be put in Ravenclaw. It seemed fitting. She loved reading, and she was quite intelligent. Her parents were in Ravenclaw, so it seemed like the natural choice for her. She heard her name at last. "Ashford, Isadora!" She approached the stool and sat down. The Deputy Headmistress set the large, ancient Sorting Hat on her head. It slid down over her eyes. Hmm, a little voice said in her ear. Okay. I see a good mind in here. Lots of book smarts. Ravenclaw would be the easy one. Isadora felt a surge of relief. Good. That was settled. But there's more, the Hat considered. You're a reserved one, but you've got the sharpness and determination. You're not just seeking answers; you're seeking a means to get ahead. Or maybe in Slytherin you'll find true friends. Those clever ones use whatever means to an end. Yes, that drive fits. Better be. SLYTHERIN!
The Hat bellowed the final word out loudly to the entire hall.
Isadora stopped cold. Slytherin? Oh, come on. She didn't think she was sneaky or anything. Was she? But the Hat sounded very confident.
When her head was lifted off her head by the removal of the Hat, she could see the trim on her robes change from a true grey to green and silver. Well, that settled it. No debating with a magical hat. She got up from the wooden stool and walked across to the Slytherin table, where the students were clapping and cheering. She wasn't angry, merely surprised. She spotted a place to sit and looked around. Perhaps the Hat had been correct. Perhaps this was where she belonged. She decided she'd just have to wait and find out.

Ripley Cunning was standing in line waiting to be sorted into a house at Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry. What an odd combination of words, Ripley thought as he poked his eyes around the enormous, glittering hall with its five tables undoubtedly waiting to be weighed down by scrumtrelescent puddings and pies to suit every taste. Indeed, he felt like one of the tables, waiting and waiting.

His trip aboard the Hogwarts Express had been full of pleasant conversation and the voyage across the lake was nothing short of magical, but now his lot was this infernal delay with nothing to do but stand around. Every first year had to be sorted; in front of him there were students, behind him even more. And each one had to don an old hat that sat around all year just to do this. It's sense of time was inhumane; it was not prompt.

But of course, every student had to have their conversation. They sat down, plopped on the dopey thing and had their tête-à-tête. Then, an announcement! At first it was exciting, but after the tenth or twelfth rando got placed, Ripley wanted to take a get his jianzi out or jog around the hall or something, anything, to relieve the tedium. He couldn't very well start a conversation with his fellow detainees at such a ceremonial time, could he? No, no, that would be impolite. So he stared around the hall, filling his head with its sights, inconspicuous sounds, and smells. The line moved and he edged closer to the hat.

After about a quarter of a century, it was his turn. The boy walked calmly to the chair with all eyes on him. Contrary to popular opinion, Ripley felt at home in the warmth of people's stares. They looked at him wherever he went. So what? He gave a sprightly hop onto the stool and the hat was placed on him. Naturally, it fell into a roguish half-dip across his forehead -- if Jack Sparrow was a hat angle, that would be it. A few girls, and maybe a boy or two at the Hufflepuff table were staring at Ripley, mouths slightly open. Some Ravenclaws, too (but they were pretending not to).

"Cunning, are you? Making my job too easy. Tut-tut...I placed your father, Calvin, in Slytherin though his ambition wasn't obvious at the time. Is that the right place for you, too?" The hat's expository rambling surprised Ripley -- was it in his head or just near it?

He thought, "Sytherin is fine, I suppose. Anything but Hufflepuff, really."

The hat made a sound akin to a snort,

"No, no, not that,
for loyal you're not.
But Gryffindor, perhaps,
You're courageous on the spot.

And sharp is your mind --
a diamond in the brain --
but, ah, scholarship is lacking
so you'd rather abstain.

I see, I see, my decision is made
I predict that in time,
you'll use your wit like a blade.
This is my job,
and I make no mistakes,
at this moment in time,
I sit on...a snake!"

And out loud, Ripley heard the word "SLYTHERIN!" issue from the hat.

He lifted the magical topper from his head and looked at his new housemates. They were cheering, but with an ironic lilt, as if they were above it all. Compared to the other tables, they were definitely having more fun. Yes, these are my people, Ripley thought, the hat knows it's job. And walking past the headmaster, eccentrically clad in a full suit of armor, Ripley gave a small nod.

Before that moment, he had known that what he experienced at Hogwarts would be new and strange, but looking at the Slytherin table collectively welcoming him as fresh meat, prank prey, and through some endearing inexplicable and out-of-character warmth, a fellow snek, a realization came to him: Whatever else one might say...This was going to be a ball!

And Ripley Cunning melted into the waiting arms of his green-robed comrades, bracing for the rest of the sorting and ready to feast!

September 1st | Great Hall
Milica looked up in slight awe when she, together with the other first years, was led into the Great Hall. The room appeared huge: decorated with four large tables on which a grand feast could be seen. It was filled with students, who seemed to be excitedly checking out the first years. The ceilings were high, seemingly never ending. However, Milica was mostly impressed by the flying candles, looking like little fireflies illuminating the room.

Milica made sure to keep a frown on her face. She did not like attention, nor did she like interacting with people. She hoped the ceremony would be over as soon as possible.

When the last student came in, the doors closed. Then, a tall, old man walked up to the front and started introducing himself. The man was wearing.. armor? Milica gave it one weird look before deciding to actually listen to the man. He told them that she and the other first years would be sorted by the Sorting Hat. This fact was already known to her, told to her by her father. He had been sorted into Ravenclaw back in the day.

Even though she really meant to, Milica hadn't exactly been paying attention, and at one point the Sorting Hat started singing a song. This, her father hadn't told her. It was quite amusing though, and it told the story of the four houses. She was honestly unsure where she would be sorted. She was quite a brave girl, but also cunning. Hearing the song, she didn't expect the hat to put her into Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, but it could always surprise her.

When the others applauded, Milica just kept a straight look on her face. It wouldn't do to show excitement for a talking hat. Finally, one by one, names were called. She recognized some names, either from the boat ride or from the train ride. Most classmates though, she didn't know.

After a long wait, her name was called, and she made her way up to the Sorting Hat. It was put upon her head and immediately started speaking. "Hmm.. another Dhampir at Hogwarts", the hat said to her. It had only sat on her head for a few seconds, when it announced, "Slytherin!".

It wasn't really a surprise for Milica, nor did she even really care what house she got into. The Sorting Hat was taken off her head, and she heard applauding from the older students. Just like she had seen others do before her, she made her way over to the Slytherin table, ready for the feast.

The entire way to the castle he had been with his Sister Rowan. The entire way she continued to poke, and prod, and annoy. She was so sure she was gonna have better grades, be prefect, maybe even head girl and obviously dueling captain while he was still struggling to cast a simple charm. He wanted to hex her and stuff her in a closet but he couldn't, not the least of which because he didn't actually know any Hexes but also because she was younger sister, if even only by a couple of minutes and his mother made him swear he would look after her.

Eventually they found themselves in the castle proper and he looked around impressed, taking in both the architecture but also the history, the memories and the sheer wealth of knowledge and power that had passed through and lingers here. He was just the next in a long line of ambitious wizards destined for greatness and he was eager to add his name to the their list...Even if he had to endure his sister's smug face to do so...

They go and sit with the other unsorted students, and settle in. Ronan is too on edge to eat, while his sister feels no such stresses.

Lynch, Ronan!

the Voice booms and with a deep breath he looks towards Rowan, hoping for at least a moment of encouragement, She sticks out her tongue. He sighs and heads to the stool at the front. Ronan sits down and the hat is placed on his head as he looks out at the packed dining hall.

Ahhh greatness is what you seek eh? but why? chasing your dreams or the dreams of others? Do you have any goals of your own child? Yeeess I can see it, there is ambition there, a grit, a steel as restrained as it be. To become the best, and freed from the chains that hold you from within there can be no choice but...

SLYTHERIN

Ronan lets out the breath he didnt realize he was holding as the Green and Silver table lets out a cheer. He lets a bit of a smile touch his face, and he makes his way to the table filled with his new peers. Ronan looks around and for the first time since they day began he was free of his sister and he couldnt help but feel a weight of his shoulders. Without her hovering over his shoulder, maybe he could accomplish what he knew he could at this school.
