While Tesla had a good point, it did not make Scout feel better. Honestly, the comparison made her feel worse, like a gross, small caterpillar or something like that. Here this sweet Hufflepuff was, telling Scout about how if she missed a single thing of medicine, she'd turn into an awful, horrible, no-good monster; but Tesla was still insisting that being blood-baited was similar! As if outsources of blood were difficult to find and produce like the Wolfsbane potion was! Hell, all you had to do was go to some muggle store and buy some particularly raw steak, and you'd be in tip-top shape. At least... well, Scout figured that'd work just as fine. She honestly wasn't sure 'what' or 'how much' was needed to satiate a dhampir. She hoped she'd never have to know.

But for the sake of not being more of a glum than she already was, Scout nodded in agreement. She really did appreciate how much effort Tes was putting forth to help her feel better. Scout was already so iffy and touchy about her nonhuman-ism, she figured being a werewolf was harder to talk about than being a vampire- well, hell, being a werewolf was flat-out harder than being a vampire, Scout had concluded that. So... no duh.

"I can understand that punching sentiment... not that it really helps." Because when had hurting someone literally ever helped Scout? "Sometimes it feels like throwing fists is like... the only way problems can get solved. Or I guess, like, casting a spell or something. I've kinda done both, and it kinda blew up in my face both times- so, like, you probably shouldn't."

Tesla spoke so highly about her mum, it made Scout feel weird. She loved her mama, of course she did... but she never really went to her with needing advice- that was something she always did with her dad. Or always used to do, at least. Weirdly, she felt like she had been splicing further and further from her parents, at least since that whole fiasco with Casey at summer camp. Normally, she'd sit in her room writing a couple of pages worth of letters to her dad, asking him every question under the moon she had when she was in class, or walking to the Great Hall... but the year had only started a month ago, and she had sent home one letter thus far.

Of course, she had sent half a dozen to Zyair, but that was a problem for a different day.

"Yeah, I'm feeling a lot better." Scout took Tesla's hand. Maybe it was just the magic of Hufflepuff's (because they clearly had some), but even just hearing a few words from Tesla was making Scout feel a little nicer. To think that, not even an hour ago, she only knew this girl from Emily's chatter. "I guess it's just some magic you badgers have, right? I feel the same way once I get done talking with Emi. It's really uplifting, to say the least. You guys would make for some killer public speakers." Maybe it was just because Emily was her best friend for all of eternity, but Scout definitely wouldn't mind sitting front and center and listening to her yap about nonhumans.

Wait, wasn't that just most of their conversations anyway?

don't look at me; you can't understand, right? i'm just like a monstrous flower that bloomed too soon
