A figure drifts into the scene like a whisper on the breeze (Suzuki, 2025). But shortly after the other figure already drifted. Except this figure seemed more like the whisper of death. Or perhaps death cosplaying as life.

Nevermind how his own stare alone can potentially send chills down someones spine. His outfit while he walked by himself felt… off. Incomplete. Anyone who knew him would wonder why he was wearing such ..light colours. That was not his style wasn't it?

The answer to that question was relatively simple. People pleasing.

This all started when he decided for himself that he was going to try and get as many tickets as possible. Considering this was his last summer camp, he ought to go all out. Not to mention it took his mind off a certain someone.

And attenting the Derby with an interesting hat seemed to be one of the easiest ways to get tickets. Only problem was…. Sara wasn't a hat person. Or a social event person. Or.. a fashionable person. Dread struck his core for hours as he racked his brain trying to write out plans how he could pull this off without absolutely dying inside.

Sara's saw the person he was just thinking about "Suzuki - san.."

And like the angel she resembled dressing like today, Suzuki san caught wind of Sara's plans. It was interesting how this year he had run into her more often than he ever did before. She seemed excited regarding the event and kindly offered to help Sara with his outfit and hat, which led them to where were now. Wearing matching hats and outfits. While he felt like a fish out of water, she seemed to absolutely fit the ecentric, almost jellyfish like theme she set for them.

" Sorry…" he sheepishly bowed down a little in greting. The beads trailing down his hat making a little sound as he did so. " I'm a little late.. have you been waiting for long?"

Consistent with the jellyfish theme him and Kanae are doing, it was an almost curved dome shaped that was a lot more eccentric than the hats associated with Derby races. It was silver, reflecting the sun in a way and potentially blinding anyone that stares at it too long. It was a good thing that parts of it were transparent. Showing the dark short hair Sara has under it. At the edges, are sparkling beads that resemble a jellyfish's graceful legs, it's longest strands ending at a bit past his shoulders.

The question of Quigley's surprising ability to take on a doxy that bested four capable, albeit young, wizards was a fair one and Avis stopped her chewing for a moment to consider it.

"Well, it did manage to steal the prefect's wand. And Quigley didn't have to fight an armed doxy," she countered with a light smile. An image of her cat wielding a wand on a duelling piste popped into her head for a moment and she giggled to herself, smothering it quickly with another bite of muffin as Rose once again brought up an extremely philosophical-sounding point, at least to a 12 year old. Avis' eyes widened in awe. The wisdom a seventh year contained was truly baffling at times...and at other times, her seventh year brother Will was having a fart contest with his disgusting friends. She grimaced and decided the wisdom only applied to girls.

"You're right. He probably is a genius. D'you think I could teach him how to do my Herbology homework?" Avis queried, almost to herself.

Moments later, after ducking under the table, Avis found herself standing and following the older girl's gaze to the familiar form of her silver cat staring down what was soon-to-be a very unlucky platter of sausages.

The Ravenclaw followed Rose towards the table and smiled as she scooped the cat off the table, giggling when the older girl begrudgingly agreed to let Chaska indulge in her prey. Avis gave the cat a fond smile and nodded at Rose's observation.

"True, she's just too cute," she said, reaching forward to scratch between her ears. The Ravenclaw perked up at the Gryffindor's next question. Food was always an excellent course of action. "Absolutely. And I wouldn't be opposed to another muffin," Avis said sheepishly. "You should definitely try one."

The two soon found themselves back at the table picking through the delectable options that lay in wait below them. Avis was almost too distracted by the lovely sight to register
Rose's question but Mylo's name popping up knocked her back into the present.

"Funny story actually," the Ravenclaw began. "Maisie, our other tentmate if you know her, got pretty banged up in a practice duel once and Mylo helped me convince her to go to the hospital wing. Figured it was probably smart what with the sneezing and lightning..." she trailed off. Truly a very Mylo way to meet...well, Mylo. Always one to help out. She glanced up at the seventh year as she balanced a scone on the small mountain she'd collected and smiled. "I'm ready when you are!" the Ravenclaw said enthusiastically. "Oh...and how did you meet Mylo?"

Hearing that a goblin firm had done work for Harvey's grandfather only strengthened the intrigue Livia felt towards the boy. Having such connections was more than enviable. Her lips did twitch at the comment about his grandfather not understanding the importance of fashion—she could say very similar things regarding her own father, who, for all he pontificated the importance of appearances, did not seem to hold his own in much regard. 'That is true,' she assented, her gaze following Harvey's as she scanned the sea of derby-goers. The colours and designs of many were beautiful, but he was right—some very obviously left creativity to be desired, while others' outfits were clearly of a cheap make. 'There is a very important difference between do-it-yourself and smash-things-together,' she said slowly, quietly, testing the waters. She offered him a sly half-smile. 'It really is a shame... but I must say, I am relieved to have encountered someone with such an eye for the intricacies of fashion.'

The ongoing race was largely forgotten as Livia's attention remained on the boy next to her. She offered a nod of confirmation when he asked if her family had connections in Russia. 'My mother's family are from Georgia and Russia,' she confirmed, the words coming just as easily as the mannequin-like posture that had been trained into her from a young age. 'My mother often sends to them for alterations, but they have some lovely original designs, too.' She paused, her cheeks gaining a light dusting of pink upon registering Harvey's compliment. For a girl of her age, her work on the hat had been decent, but it was work born of intrigue and not learned skill. Her eyes widened. 'I—thank you.' She had to pause again when Harvey questioned the degree of her interest in fashion. 'Certainly interested, but perhaps not in the most professional way. I enjoy making alterations to pre-existing outfits; design is... well, it's not quite my forte. Anything I could sketch would not be worth looking at, I assure you.' That admission was punctuated by a quiet laugh. 'But I'd still love to see anything you might come up with.'

The thundering of hooves did not overshadow the light buzz of chatter that surrounded the two youths, but it did provide a symphonic cacophony of a backdrop for her conversation with Harvey. The occasional excited noise would sound from an observer with less class when their horse of choice pulled forward, and Livia angled her ears away from such disarray in order to focus better on Harvey. 'A competitive streak, hm?' That was something she could relate with, even if she rarely let that side of her show, often preferring to remain reserved and observant rather than blatantly ambitious. However, the phrase not one to be outdone resonated with the young girl. 'I can understand that. I must admit, I disdain the idea of someone actually surpassing my abilities. Too many people are simply fine with such a thing!' Once more, a soft titter of laughter accompanied her words, as if she found the concept humorous—or, perhaps, idiotic to the point of laughability.

Slowly, Livia's features shifted, the corners of her eyes lifting upwards just slightly as her expression softened. Her smile did not show teeth, but its reserved nature would suggest a shared sense of fondness for her companion. Although she had encountered numerous individuals at the camp, he was the first she had truly thought was of her calibre, and certainly the only person she thought she might like to remain friends with. Perhaps she was too quick to apply the label of friendship, but certainly such a hope could be verbalised, even if it, for now, remained solely within her thoughts.

It was not long before she was nodding along to Harvey's words. She averted her gaze momentarily when he suggested her outfit was a show-stopper—surely, she wanted to profess, he was mistaken, as even a keen eye for accessorising could not compete with designer's creativity. However, when he trailed off, her green eyes would meet his darker ones once again, and her eyebrows lifted at his query. It was high praise; it was an extension of companionship. And even more, it was an opportunity for them both to practise a hobby. Just how could she have declined?

Her smile finally revealed just a glimmer of teeth before she responded. 'Should it mean I get the privilege of seeing more of your designs, then without a doubt, yes.' Although she did not wish to think too much of the future, the idea of doing anything to potentially work with this boy she would like to consider a friend was like fruit dangling in front of Tantalus; she would seize any chance to interact with someone who seemed to think and act in manners so similarly to her own. 'If you would not mind... perhaps I could help show your work to the student populace, too. They might not appreciate it quite as much as I do, but I figure any recognition might be helpful, assuming you're looking at continuing to pursue design.' She folded her hands in front of her, lacing her fingers together in a manner that would suggest comfort and not rigidity. 'I would like to become involved with the school's newspaper, which could very well prove valuable for advertising the skill of Hogwarts's best.'

It was true that Harvey's grandfather had strong connections throughout the magical community. He had lived a life of luxury because of it with easy access to the finer things in life. The boy wanted a goblin crafted outfit and with a snap of his grandfather's fingers it was done. Yet all the while Harvey knew that this would one day come to an end. Not that he would ever be allowed to live a life in poverty, but there was a unique way about goblin culture. At least in his grandfather's tribe anyways. Harvey would be raised properly and given all the advantage that galleons could buy. That was his family's responsibility. However, when coming to age he would be expected to make his own way in life. There were no heirs to untold wealth. There were no cushy positions within daddy's company to sit back and collect. Harvey would be expected to make his own connections and perhaps he was currently locked in conversation with one of them.

Harvey's long fingers went to cover his mouth as he cracked a smile and chuckled at Livia's words. "A very important difference indeed." The boy knew it was impolite to laugh at others, but their shared smile let each other know that they were in like minded company. Harvey was a snob and he wasn't exactly apologetic about it. Sure, he would go through the motions of acting properly, but there was simply no excuse for some of these atrocious outfits. "It does take a fine eye." Harvey agreed with Livia about the intricacies of fashion. You could put together whatever expensive fabrics you'd like, but it was taste and a good eye that made all the difference.

He listened closely as Livia explained her mother's side of the family had Russian and Georgian ties. A quick look at how she maintained her posture and spoke with grace had Harvey assuming that there were pure blood roots in that family tree somewhere. If not, at least a long line of wealth and influence. Just another thing that he found captivating about her, but it really was her choice of clothing that he found so intriguing. Hogwarts was often a sea of black robes with the same four color accents to represent the houses. Harvey had not realized how starved his eyes were for something other than a school uniform and to find another as interested in the art form as he was brought a jolt of life that nearly had him buzzing.

"You're welcome. Now, alterations require talent too." He was quick to offer another compliment, even if his own knowledge of the craft was amateur at best. Harvey was creative enough to come up with interesting designs or so he thought anyways, but when it came to the actual construction of them, the boy had never held a sewing needle. "Perhaps you could teach me sometime? I've very little experience." It would be fun to play even if he really didn't wish to get his hands dirty. "Oh, I'm sure you could come up with something decent, but I would love to show you my work sometime. I don't really know anyone else at school that would care or have anything constructive to say about it." Maybe she would just be someone to bounce ideas off of, but a potential partnership would be wonderful. Barrows and Machavariani...B&M. A boy could dream anyways.

The booming of the animals simply became background noise and this was much more captivating. Harvey smiled again as she did not shy away from his admission of being competitive. All too often it seemed like he was expected to be apologetic about wanting to win. What was wrong with a bit of ambition? "Well, we simply cannot have that now can we?" The pair shared another joke about never being outdone, but it did hint at the foundation of their potential friendship. Core values and what not. Speaking of which, boldly going for what he wanted was one of those character traits that hopefully Livia was not opposed to. The wide smile she flashed put the boy at ease.

This recent spark of creativity had been a pleasant awakening for Harvey, but he did not have anyone to share it with. More importantly he did not have anyone to help inspire his creations. A mannequin was not a living or breathing thing. There was no movement or fluidity to it. Dressing an actual person and seeing how the fabric molded to the body seemed essential, but doing so was a bit of an intimate thing. Hopefully this newfound friendship would offer just that. Harvey's brow would rise at her suggestion. Of course Harvey was confident enough to show his work and was strong enough to face any critique, but he had not thought about publishing his designs. Model, confidant, partner, PR representative! Had Harvey struck gold?!

"What an opportunity that would be. I had thought of putting on a show one day, but an article in the paper?" Harvey let the thought drift. How many would actually show up for a show of his? But how many would see his work if it were splashed across the school paper? His mind churned at the possibilities. "Most would not appreciate it." He said rather bluntly. No need to sugar coat how he felt about most of the school's population. "However, it would be a great way to bring those that did together. Hogwarts's best." Harvey repeated the words. What a dream it would be to be considered one of them. "I think you're on to something, Livia. I'd love to be showcased, if you'd be willing to help me? I'll compile my work before school starts and then I can show you my portfolio. I'll bully old grandfather into sending me with some fabrics too and perhaps we can come up with something special."

"Ah, fair," Rose said, though she didn't really believe that a Doxy having a wand would do that much. Perhaps she underestimated the small, chaos-imbued creatures.

Rose watched Avis' eyes widen at her comment, which surprised the redhead a little. She had been mostly joking, but Avis seemed to truly consider it. The redhead stifled a laugh, imagining the cat sitting in the library over Avis' homework. "There's truly only one way to find out," she said, her eyes sparkling.

Chaska leaned into Avis' hand as the girl scratched the freshly captured kitty behind the ears. Rose was of the mind that cats were a fairly good judge of character. Chaska, at least, was. Rose couldn't remember anyone that she liked that Chaska didn't, though she supposed that could also just be because the fluffball trusted Rose, the giver of food and treats and snuggles. It was a lesser-known fact that cats could smell human emotions, just like dogs could. This had been another unexpected side effect of the redhead being an animagus. In her feline form, she couldn't help but raise her hackles as someone stomped by or lift her tail as somebody saw her and smiled.

Rose listened as Avis detailed how she and Mylo had met- helping another student. Rose smiled softly, as she grabbed a plate and started to grab various foods. She couldn't say she was surprised. The two Ravenclaws had both proven themselves as helpful and thoughtful friends, even though she hadn't known them for that long. "I remember my first duels," Rose said, grimacing. "It's hard to go and get help when you need it, especially when you lose. You guys are good friends." Though, admittedly, Rose hadn't really been given a choice during her first three duels whether she was going to receive medical attention, as she had been knocked unconscious. She was always surprised at her own persistence in that way; had she not continued, she never would have started winning, and she never would have become the amazing spellcaster and duelist she was today. "Are you a duelist?" Rose asked, knowing that Mylo was, and now knowing that Maisie was, as well. Obviously, with their age disparities and the more fair duel pairings, the Rose and Avis wouldn't be up against each other, but Rose couldn't say that she had seen the Ravenclaw on the piste before, but maybe Rose just hadn't known her enough to recognize her.

Having collected a small assortment of foods she wanted to try, as well as some things to give Chaska to prevent another wild cat chase, Rose nodded, turning her gaze to the derby. "Okay, let's go find somewhere to sit... hopefully there's still spots, even though we got here later." The two started making their way through the crowd, searching for two seats in a good enough spot to see the race, and Avis asked Rose how she had met Mylo.

Well... to be honest, it had a great deal to do with the fact that Rose was an animagus. But even though Rose trusted Avis, she didn't truly know the girl that well yet. Plus, she could paraphrase without giving that away. She shrugged. "Well, honestly, I just bumped into him on my walk. I kinda scared him a little, but they let me sit with them and we talked about all kinds of things. Magical creatures, classes, houses... all that jazz. We realized we had a lot in common. So, long story short, I interrupted their peace and quiet, but we became friends anyway," she laughed.

Rose and Avis found seats and Rose turned her eyes on the derby. "Do you like magical creatures?" she asked Avis.

Harvey's presence—and, of course, his like-mindedness—provided an ample catalyst for Livia to lean into what tended to be her unwanted rigidity. Here, the etiquette became a tool. Yet despite that intense preference for politesse, she found an appreciation for just-hidden malice lurking beneath the surface, something Harvey seemed to share, even if only in the sense of faux-polite statements about fashion.

She would be the most devious deceiver if she were to say she had expected to find a friend, especially one so similar to her, at Hogwarts's summer camp. In fact, Livia had looked forward to see her first year to be one of relative solitude, with very little ebullience until she could properly assimilate to the customs of Hogwarts students. Many at the camp proved not to be educated in the epitome of etiquette, but Harvey... he remained a surprise Livia found she was firmly grateful for.

She momentarily averted her gaze when Harvey put forth yet another compliment. Livia's first instinct was to disagree—alterations, when design took far more creative skill?—but she avoided succumbing to that predisposition, instead simply smiling softly and nodding. 'I wouldn't consider myself excellent, but sometimes teaching can help the teacher learn, in which case I would love to show you a bit... provided you can give me even the slightest glimpse into your creative process.' The extent of Livia's creativity remained firmly rooted in sculpture and dance; anything a bit finer, like the use of fabric or sketching, perpetually piqued her amazement, but was not something she had a clue how to fashion. Her eyes lit up when Harvey acceded to her request—if he had designed his outfit, she could only wait in joyous anticipation for what more she would one day see from him. 'That would be just perfect,' she said warmly, adding, 'and I would love to try my hand at constructive criticism. Genuinely, anything to assist a fellow fashion enthusiast.'

A deeper, stronger underlying sentiment went unspoken—anything to assist a friend in the making. Harvey had cemented himself in Livia's mental dossier as someone to whom she could pledge her loyalty. She retained that conviction as she listened with an open mind to Harvey's thoughts on a Headliner article. She would not express her initial slight disappointment, and there was no need—it was quickly overshadowed by another smile appearing on her face, this one truly conspiratorial. Yes, he was right: Hogwarts's best. She listened with renewed captivation, ideas for a stunning headline already swimming through her quick-running thoughts. A quick nod would affirm her accordance with Harvey. 'Yes—of course. I would be honoured to properly see the portfolio; perhaps we could watermark part of a design and put it in the paper as a sort of teaser?' She did her best to meet his gaze with shining emerald eyes at his mention of his grandfather. 'That's just perfect. I'm beyond certain we'll put something that can blow the masses away.' Almost an afterthought, and with a far softer voice, she added, 'I suppose I could ask my grandfather to craft a mannequin or two. You know, for some more familial touch.'

It would be nothing compared to the goblin craftsmanship Livia was certain Harvey's grandfather could contract, but a finely-sculpted mannequin from a seasoned craftsman had to mean something... and it was the sentiment of it, to her, more than the fineness, for once. She glanced back towards the racetrack, lifting herself up on her toes for a moment before frowning. This was the last time she would bet on horses. They were simply too unpredictable.

In fact, the hustle and bustle appeared to be dying down, so it was with a kind glance and final smile at Harvey that Livia turned back to him. 'It does appear the event is coming to a close, and I've got a woodcarving to finish for my brother. I ought to work on that, but I look forward to seeing you again soon... and, of course, to seeing those designs of yours.'

Avis filed the thought of teaching Quigley how to do her homework away for further brainstorming. Perhaps it could be done with some sort of spell somehow?

Minutes later, after Rose had finally reacquired Chaska, Avis found herself telling the story of how she'd met Mylo as they picked over the food options on the spread table. A lightbulb went off in Avis' head when Rose mentioned dueling. She knew she'd seen the redhead somewhere! It had been at one of the dueling matches last season: Gryffindor versus Slytherin, perhaps? Rose was on Gryffindor's team. The soon-to-be second year found herself gazing up at the older girl with newfound respect.

"No, no. I've only ever been in one practice duel. It was alright but Merlin, I don't know how you duelists handle being hit with spells all the time. Nah, I just stick to Quidditch! I'm supposed to start this year, y'know," she rambled, exhilaration suddenly filling her chest at the thought. The girl had been itching to get on the Hogwarts pitch all summer. She couldn't wait to actually play this year, although the thought was slightly intimidating as much as it was exciting.

Following Rose's lead, Avis gripped her stacked plate with two hands and trailed after the older girl, nodding along to her comment about finding a spot.

She smiled when the girl answered her question about Mylo. It sounded as though they did indeed have quite a few things in common, not to mention that calm disposition that Avis had come to admire about her friend. She herself was still working on a level head but Mylo had always seemed to find a way to tame her temper when it got too out of hand.

"That sounds nice. And very much like Mylo. And if you're like them, than I suppose we can get along swimmingly," Avis replied, popping half a pumpkin pasty in her mouth and giving Rose a stuffed but friendly smile.

The older girl managed to find a seat closer to the derby and Avis slid into her own, setting the plate on the surface in front of her. Chewing absentmindedly, the Ravenclaw once again found herself captivated by the magnificent beasties racing around the track, sweat foaming and wings beating furiously. They were beautiful in a violent sort of way.

She looked up at Rose's question. "Aye, I think they're cool. Can't say I know much about them, but there were a lot that lived in the hills by my village...in Ireland," Avis said. She leaned in closer, a solemn expression taking over her face. "I swear to Merlin I saw a mermaid once. In the sea below my house. But my brother said it was just a whale or something. He's wrong though. She waved at me," Avis said, her voice lowering into a revered hush. "What about you? Do you like them?" she countered, cheeriness returning to her tone.

Rose giggled a little at Avis' comments. It was definitely not the best part of dueling to be hit all the time with spells. The sport, had, however, honed her skills of casting such spells and given her much more empathy, making her truly consider before casting them. "I wanted to play Quidditch," Rose said, an amused smile on her face as she remembered her younger self. For practically her whole first year, she had been obsessed. Once she started dueling, the obsession had faded away as her love for dueling took its place. "In my mind, Quidditch has always been the more violent of the two, but now that I think about it..." No, there weren't Bludgers flying around trying to knock you out, but admittedly, dueling wasn't a sport with a reputation of its athletes playing nice. She shrugged. "They're probably tied."

Why did all wizarding sports have an element of violence to them? There were countless muggle sports in which violence was discouraged, not even an aspect. But Rose couldn't think of a single magical sport that didn't have an extremely likely risk of getting hurt. Maybe it was because it was so much easier to heal people with magic.

Rose listened to Avis as she nibbled on her food, enjoying her dramatic story as she insisted she saw a mermaid. The redhead smiled. "I believe you," she said. "Is your brother not magical or is he just no fun?" she asked, the latter option suggested with a teasing tone. It was often hard to tell people's blood status anymore. She knew that it was just decades ago that it was such a vital part of students' perception of each other, but now it was just another tidbit. Rose liked that about Hogwarts nowadays. Sure, there would always be entitled pureblood families who thought they were better than everyone else, but for the most part, everyone was on equal terms regardless of their backgrounds, united by magic.

"Oh, I love them," she said, a spark in her eyes as they trailed the Granians. "I think they're fascinating." She pulled half of her auburn over her shoulder, running her fingers through it absentmindedly. "I think I want to be a magizoologist one day. To research and study them, as well as become friends with them... I just think that would be just amazing."

The thought of being able to work with magical creatures had lessened the intimidation of graduating. Hogwarts had been her home for so long, she had become used to the schedule and the routine. She liked going to classes and seeing her friends and walking around the castle and its grounds with Chaska. She liked learning in class and eating in the Great Hall and reading in the library. All of that would change soon, and she didn't really want it to.

But the thought of becoming a magizoologist was enticing. She could imagine herself taking care of her animals all day, sharing her research and findings with others, and constantly learning about them. It gave her hope that maybe all that change wouldn't be so bad. "You probably haven't thought about what you want to do after you graduate," Rose started. The kid was only going into her second year, after all. "But if you could have anything as a job, what would you do?"

Some prioritized socializing, others raced to find a good seat, and many chose to take their chances at the betting booth. @Beatrice Forsyth confidently placed her faith in Loki's Legacy. Evelynn would recognize her from Quidditch, whereas Pericles recalled sharing the duelling and racing teams alongside his fellow eagle. Both bid her good luck, and as she took her leave, Pear could be heard musing that they now shared a fourth sport between them- derby. @Aiden Sinclair stood out against the crowd with his black and befeathered hat. His choice was the steed in lucky green tack, and to his further fortune, the booth duo assured him there was no cost to bid. With nothing to lose, Aiden departed with an emerald ticket which read Vitamixin' It Up. If the beast was as auspicious as it looked, he'd be trading it in for prize tickets at the end.

Rather than bid on any Granians, @Evony Senoj focused her efforts on procuring a proper derby hat. Rich fabric, silky ribbons, and delicate lace made for an elegant base to the bold Dahlia and stark crow’s skull. Pericles whistled an impressed note as she hurried to the counter. While she wasn't betting, she certainly deserved a reward for her intricate headwear. With a string of tickets from the Ravenclaw and a hot-air charm from Eve, the snakelette was on her way. Pear cleared his throat and braced the tip of his finger against his Adam's apple. "Last call for Derby bets," his voice projected from the entrance. "The race has begun!"

2025 Summer Camp Granian Derby OPEN
I would like to extend my sincerest apology for the huge delay in this moderation. Between travel, then physical unwellness, I have been struggling with time, energy and focus when it comes to anything remotely productive. As such, I have decided to combine the rest of the moderations into a single post so as to wrap this up and allow players to more easily move on from summer camp now that the new school year has begun.

It wasn't long before the voice of Jemba Rowan would ring across the stadium once more. "They're heading into the first turn... Phoenix Flare and Loki's Legacy still neck and neck. It looks like they might be losing a bit of focus, though. You can see them fighting for their heads, their jockeys trying to rein them in a bit." Evidently, the event was not simply about announcing the progress of the race, but also attempting to bring attention to some of the finer nuances of the sport, igniting the imaginations of junior and senior pupil alike as they watched on in awe as the large creatures progressed around the track.

"It's a common issue, of course," the announcer continued in stride, addressing the audience. "Young horses can get a bit too caught up in the moment, forgetting that they're in it for the long haul; they just want to out-pace whoever's next to them and end up using too much energy to win the battle only to lose the war! As you can see, the trio keeping pace right behind them have edged into the inside turn." Her voice paused momentarily as she, herself, watched on excitedly as that particular lead narrowed.

For those students who managed to split their attention between the Granian's and the surrounding environment as they pounded by, they might catch a few advertisements posted strategically at the turn. One such poster displayed the name "FRANSSONSTAV" prominently in large bold lettering. The Norwegian wandmaker, Astrid Fransson, was well known locally for her craft with wands, but was clearly trying to spread the name and tap into a foreign market. Those students who hailed from Durmstrang knew well enough that the now seventh-year Greta Fransson was expected to take up the family business after graduation.

"They're gaining ground! Snorting Hat has taken— no, that's Firebolt— hang on, Snorting Hat is fighting to keep the edge— NO! It's Nimble Nimbus on their outside. Look at those strides!" Excitement and admiration threaded through her words, a symphony to serenade the young mare's impressive feat. "As they approach the halfway mark, Nimble Nimbus has taken the lead after the first turn, edging out Firebolt Fury! Mistral & Mirror Racing's Snorting Hat is hard on their heels, showing no signs of tiring just yet. Loki's Legacy has surpassed Phoenix Flare to take a solid fourth position on a comfortable middle lane. Settling into their own formation at the rear are Bluebottle Betsy, followed shorting behind by Vitamixin' It Up, and Avada Run Fasta taking up the rear. All I can say is Avada better run faster! He's got a lot of catching up to do!"

"And they're reaching the mid-stretch now. Nimble Nimbus being ridden hard with Firebolt Fury hot on her tail." Surely the announcer must have consumed some sort of soothing tonic prior to the event, for despite the non-stop verbiage, she didn't seem in least bit fatigued or at a loss of voice. "Looks like Nimble Nimbus has lost some on the turn!" The voice continued, echoing out over grounds and stands alike. "Her jockey seems to be struggling to keep her tight onto the rail; you can see her slipping back—"

"Look at that, Ladies and Gentlemen. Look at that!" As she called out suddenly to capture the attention of any whose may have strayed in the last few seconds, Jembza Rowan stepped to the edge of her announcing box, hand gripping hard on the rail as she leaned in the direction of her focus. "Snorting Hat has edged into that prime inside position and is bounding forward. What a stride! Loki's Legacy there managing to keep ahead of Phoenix Flare. Say what you will about this race, but there's a real rivalry brewing between those two, and BOTH of them are giving quite the performance as they take a page out of Snorting Hat's lead, wedging in against the rail right behind him. Nimble Nimbus just can't quite overcome the loss of the inside advantage."

As the horses reached the halfway mark, the large billboard hanging high above the announcer's box updated at the hands several assisting attendants pointing their wands to modify the colouration and writing upon its surface. The rankings of the Granians shuffled and adjusted to reflect their new positions, often times finding that their ranks would then change again only seconds later as their racing counterparts battled with sweat and snorts to gain the lead on their competitors.

At the same time, hooves thundered against the packed earth, kicking up puffs of dust and dirt in their wake wherever they passed by. Wings fluttered and shook, the great magical beasts having to employ every ounce of control and discipline not to simply take off with swooping beats of their powerful appendages to leave the ground and take to the skies. Again, students would see numerous advertisements flashing past, briefly obscured by the racing winged horses before appearing once again. One of the flashier ones depicted the profile of a regal face as it transformed itself with the effects of various physical potions. And in elegant typography, the words "THE VALERIAN CONSORTIUM", bringing attention to the Renowned Potioneers of the Valerian pureblood family.

"Some of you might be wondering," Jembza cut in, acknowledging this very phenomenon, "why winged horses are being forced to keep to the ground. The fact is, they are put through a variety of racing formats throughout their careers, but we always start them off on the ground. In the same way that you must walk before you can run, these youngster must learn to run before they can fly! Elevation adds a whole new dimension to the racing sphere—quite literally! And with it, a number of dangers. The Statute of Secrecy is more difficult to uphold, vision of horse and rider is more obscured, there are infinitely more chances of accidental collision and injury... I am sure you get the picture. But if you ever have the chance to watch a championship race of veteran Granians in flight, ooooh you simply MUST attend. It is a sight like none other!"

"But getting back on track—" She trailed off to take a moment to chuckle at her own joke. "This is a tight race, folks, and you're not going to want to miss a second as the five in the front battle it out for first place. That said, let's not forget our stragglers! Vitamixin' It Up has managed to gain some ground and even pass Bluebottle to take a healthy position in sixth. While Avada Run Fasta seems to have found his stride. Look at that surge from the back of the pack! Bluebottle Betsy isn't going to make it easy for him, but he's well on his way to overtaking her! Can he keep it up?"

"They're coming into the final furlong now, folks, and this is where memories are made! The homestretch is out ahead of them, and—yes—you can see how the riders are starting to give them their heads, loosening up on the reins to let these youngsters run wild." And indeed, just like Jembza Rowan was suggesting, heads were stretching forward with their newfound freedom, strides were lengthening, and the snorting of exertion reached new levels. "No more containment for them, no sir! Permission is being given for them to give it their all in this last leg of the race. Whatever energy they still have left, you're going to see it expended!"

"Snorting Hat trying to keep the lead, settling a blistering pace up front." As the pack of racing Granians hammered down the final stretch, it was the grullo gelding in his shining ivory tacked glory out in front, but not by much. "Loki's Legacy is barely a dozen strides behind him, though appears to be losing ground. In fact, he'd better watch out! Phoenix Flare is gaining ground on the inside and closing in fast. We're about to be seeing the final result of this little rivalry." Sure enough, the rose bay mare positioned herself neck and neck with Loki's Legacy only moments later, the two battling it out for second place as they neared the finish line.

"Oh but don't sleep just yet! Blink and you might miss it. Nimble Nimbus seems to have decided she'd not about to lose that lead she had after the half." Just as Jembza was suggesting, the white-gray mare almost seemed to be floating with how swiftly her hooves were pounding down the track, graceful with every stride as she gave every ounce of effort asked upon her by her rider. "She's closing in on the leaders!" For a few seconds, the announcer almost seemed to forget that the other six horses even existed, so keenly attuned was she on the four leaders of the race. "She has surpassed Loki's Legacy!" came the announcement a moment later. "Now Phoenix Flare as well!" she added after a few seconds. "Will this be the upset of the season? She had started out safely towards the middle at the start, then broke ahead a bit too early. I thought that had been the end of it for her, but here she is defying the odds."

"50 meters from the finish line." Perhaps some might have thought it a bit premature for the announcer to sound so excited about the possibility of this particular mare clinching a win. "40 meters from the finish line." But there were no other contestants making the same sort of gains as her in the final stretch, and with every passing moment, it was becoming increasingly clear that the race was coming down to Snorting Hat and Nimble Nimbus. "Thirty meters from the finish line. Hold onto your hats, my dear. This could be quite the toss up! Twenty meters from the finish!" The former's rider wasn't blind to the encroaching competition, however, and resurged own efforts to encourage their steed forward. "Oh don't start counting your winning galleons just yet, Snorting Hat isn't going to let his position go so easily! Ten meters from the finish!"

A puff of smoke and a multitude of sparks charms in various colours would mark the conclusion of the race for the frontrunners, Jembza Rowan shouting over the din, "SNORTING HAT HAS DONE IT, HE HAS WON THE RACE!" In fact, so impressive was his final desperate sprint that Nimble Nimbus had fallen quite a few strides behind him once all was said and done. Still, it would only be a second or two after the initial fanfare before Jembza's voice announced, "NIMBLE NIMBUS SECURES SECOND PLACE."

Hot on their heels were Phoenix Flare and Loki's Legacy, both lathered with white sweat, their snorts heralding their finish. Theirs had been a battle between themselves from start to finish. "PHOENIX FLARE COMES IN THIRD WITH LOKI'S LEGACY A CLOSE FOURTH!" Then shortly after, "A tragic day for Firebolt Fury. Second place was briefly in their grasp, but not for long. Still, they were able to keep a consistent pace after falling back, and FIFTH PLACE IS THEIRS." The dust and smoke had a chance to clear over the moments that followed, Jembza even going so far as to take a sip of water in the break between the frontrunners and the rest of the still racing Granians. "VITAMIXIN' IT UP FINISHES SOLIDLY IN SIXTH," the announcements continued as the final horses began to cross the threshold to the race's conclusion. "FOLLOWED BY AVADA RUN FASTA, and finally BLUEBOTTLE BETSY BRINGING IN THE REAR."

"And that's it, that's all, everyone, the race is over!" At this point, students would likely have to strain over the roar of the cheers and applause and general excited conversation of those surrounding them as they regaled the race and discussed its progression. Moreover, already some were heading towards the betting tent hoping to get a jump on collecting their winnings before the crowd could coalesce too densely. "Congratulations to our winners, and a heart-felt thank you to all of the Granian horses and their riders who came all this way to partake in this most exciting race today.

"For those who feel so inclined, you will have an opportunity to briefly relay your congratulations in person in the winner's circle. Not just yet though!" Jembza was quick to add, spying a few eager beavers who were already headed to await the winners. "The horses will need some time to calm down, cool off, and catch their breaths before their ready for their close-ups!" She flashed a charming grin and a wink at nobody in particular. "But rest assured, they will be happy to make your acquaintances soon enough."

As the horses peeled out of their galloping strides and veered off to their own sections of the track to start their cooldown routines, one of the aides up on the announcing stage stepped forward with another stack of papers, handing one of them over to Miss Rowan. "Now, while I still have some of your attention..." Jembza Rowan's voice was practically deflated compared to the excitement bounding from it in the final moments of the race. Nevertheless, she put on a beaming smile and circled the elevated stage. "We extend our warmest thanks, once again, to our sponsors and those who made this event possible! Allow me a moment to highlight a few such contributers before you all disperse...

"The Supporting Shadow Hiring Agency is here to help you—or perhaps your families. Whether you're an employer looking for employees, an employee looking for an employer, or a business looking for more clients, they can help connect you with the kind of people you're looking for! As it happens, they are also looking for agents for themselves to help with the search for potential talents and clients."
Anyone interested in such a roleplay or connection opportunity should direct their interest to @Ginyami Midorimori
"Among our perhaps more renowned, yet less talked about financiers, may be that of the Pass family. Far-reaching is their holding company, with wide-spread interest and investment across countless other businesses. Now, I hear what you're saying. What does a holding company have to do with me? Yes, it's true, it isn't typically the sort of thing you hear being advertised. HOWEVER, don't knock their usefulness when it comes to the provisioning of employment opportunities! So pay attention those of you who will be graduating soon! Accountants, Financiers, Investors, Proprietors, Translators, Receptionists, Personal Aides, Lawyers...all of these play a part in the functioning of the company's day to day. So if you're looking for something a bit more mundane, or—" Here she dropped her voice to a stage whisper. "—if perhaps casting and magic were never quite your strong suit, don't worry I won't tell—" She grinned and cast another directionless wink. "—perhaps it would be worth a little investigating!"
Anyone interested in such a roleplay or connection opportunity should direct their interest to @Prat Pass
"Next up..." She exchanged the piece of paper from which she had just been reading for another. "Should you ever find yourself traveling—or perhaps for some of you, it will be returning home—to Chile and the surrounding areas, I encourage you to stop by the Vargas family estate! Making a living by buying and selling exotic goods such as rare goblin crafted armor and other goods, the Vargas family would be happy to have new clients and supply you with what you didn't even know you wanted until now."
Anyone interested in such a roleplay or connection opportunity should direct their interest to @Ariam Vargas
"And finally, before you disappear back to school, don't forget to take a stop through Diagon Alley one last time on your way to King's Cross Station and pay a visit to Leone's Warding Wonders! Luck charms, talismans, amulets, and various enchanted jewelry are only a few coins away from being yours. Whether it's a bold statement to get yourself seen, or doing yourself a kindness with a bit of favourable assistance on your exams, they have something for everyone."
Anyone interested in RP interactive opportunities with this shop Proprietor should reach out to @Odette Leone
"Well, I suppose now there is nothing else to do but to bid you all a most wonderful rest of your day. I hope you were able to enjoy the race, and be sure to enjoy the festivities. The horses will be in the winning circle shortly, feel free to interact with them at your leisure. There is no rush, of course, as the stadium will be thusly set up and open for the rest of the afternoon for your socializing pleasure. But when you do decide to depart, don't forget to claim your betting wins on your way out!" With that, Jembza Rowan tapped her throat with her wand, and her voice would be heard sonorously over the stadium no more. The race had concluded, the top three winning Granian horses were arriving in the winner's circle to accept their prizes and greet the eager students, and the rest of the afternoon would be spent enjoying the refreshments and peer interactions.

I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me.
