| CV | His anonymity did not last long, before his aquaintance recognized him, though it was doomed from the start. With such a remarkable visage, the French rising star was never going to pass unnoticed. He tensed at the mention of his name, but no one seemed scandalized to see Camille De Varenne in this carriage. Maisie was the only one surprised, which could have been explained by her pure blood status and personal connection to his family. The others, clearly, had no sense of the importance of his family in the art scene back in France—or in the UK, if his father had his way. “Hello, Maisie. Trust me, I am too.” Camille answered, hiding the grimness in his voice behind a stiff smile. Not, of course, for the reasons she surely meant. He would have been horrified to be named in front of all these people, if her tone hadn’t been so cheerful and genuinely excited to be here. A concept he could not fathom. In this carriage? Still, it eased his worries, just slightly, to see a girl of somewhat prestige, enough that his father was doing business with them, reduced to the same train conditions. The topic moved on to the Hogwarts houses. It was general consensus among them that houses, like he thought, didn’t decide your path for you, but might help you along the way by meeting like-minded people. Camille nodded at their observations, mind distant. As long as he didn’t get sorted into the same house as Juliette, he’d accept it. “Four houses might not be enough, to meet like-minded people. I don’t know enough about any of them to guess which one I might be sorted into.” Unless they had one house for the rich and famous, like himself, he imagined it would be as random as roulette. After his little chime in, his mind instinctively wandered to his father, and what he would think if he knew his son was forced to share space with half-bloods, and, for all he knew, muggle-borns. Personally, he had little opinion on blood-status. Likewise about the houses, he didn’t see how it would change much fundamentally about a person, except hand over another label to give them more ways to make assumptions about ones character. There were other– more important– ways to judge people. Based on their sense of style and the way they carried themselves, for example. Blood status wouldn’t embarrass him in a crowd. Leopard print would. With his cousins warning about vomit candies still burning in his mind, Camille did not want anything to do with Chocolate frogs, and he didn’t necessarily trust pumpkin pasties either. Merlin, was this what British food has come to. Despite being French, he did not enjoy eating escargot at his age. And even if he did, they did not belong as candies! He’d wait for the proper meal to arrive instead, not knowing that he’d be waiting for an eternity if he expected something edible. Eventually, the train rattled forward, embarking on the long, deeply uncomfortable journey to Hogwarts. The faster it went by, the better. Because surely, the destination wouldn’t be as mediocre as the Hogwarts Express compartments. |

Fred fell silent, giving space for the others to speak, nodding here and there to show he was listening. That was when he learned that Maisie, the confident girl who had just joined them, already knew the quiet boy at the window. His name was Camille. Somehow, that made sense, his stillness had a weight to it, as though words weren’t needed between them.
Rosaline chimed in after, her voice gentle but eager, confirming she was a first year too. Fred returned her smile, a bit of warmth loosening his shoulders. It felt good, finding that thread of common ground.
When the sound of the trolley’s rattling wheels echoed faintly through the corridor, both Maisie and Rosaline perked up, patting down their pockets for coins. Fred’s stomach betrayed him with a low rumble, and he quickly pressed his hand over it, half embarrassed, half amused. His mother’s face flickered in his mind, her careful tone when she’d slipped a few silver sickles into his hand that morning. Not too much, she had said. Just enough for a treat or two. She never liked the thought of him stuffing himself with too many sweets.
Still, he couldn’t help but glance at the girls’ hands, noticing the glint of gold Galleons as they compared coins. His own sickles suddenly felt colder, smaller. He tucked them back into his palm before anyone noticed, trying not to dwell on it. At that moment, the door slid open again. A girl with light blonde hair leaned in, her voice soft but clear. “Excuse me, is this seat taken?”
Fred straightened almost instantly, grateful for the distraction. “No, go ahead,” he said with a small grin, gesturing to the empty spot. “We’re just about to get some sweets, anyway.” The compartment settled back into its rhythm, chatter wrapping around them as the train thundered on.

Maisie was surprised Camille was surprised she was there. Why shouldn't she? She was British, and Hogwarts was for British students, was it not? He, on the other hand, was French. And the French school, Beauxbatons. He seemed cold and out of place, but she decided not to say anything. It would be impolite, and any how, he might just have nerves.Mentions: @Camille De Varenne@Rosaline Everhart@Frederick Buckley

The conversation about houses was still happening, as they sped through the countryside, passing greenery and villages.
Rosaline was eager to buy snacks off the food trolley, should it come any sooner. Maisie got out two fat galleons, knowing it would be more than enough to buy them all a mountain of sweets. The one in the books only cost 11 something sickles(I searched) Her mother had taught her to be kind and to share, and she stood by it in all her 11 years. Money was used to make people happy, it was not something to be hoarded. Besides, what's better than to share with a carriage-full of friends?
Just then, the door rattled open, and a girl with light brown hair appeared. She pointed at the seat by Maisie, and asked if it was taken.
"No, of course not. You can sit here." She said quickly, moving to the left as to make more space for her. However, it would be more cramped.
"What are your favorite snacks? I love chocolate frogs and every flavour beans!" she said to the carriage. Her brothers had sent candy to her and her younger sisters almost every year, even though they can buy candy themselves, something about the hastily packed candy stuffed into a parchment parcel tied with string, delivered by her brothers' owls the evening they arrived at Hogwarts made those candy special, and even sweeter-well, perhaps not the beans.
The train bumped along, accompanied by the uneven rattling sounds of a trolley moving on carpet, no doubt the railroad was uneven.
She was getting excited, because she can now send candy back home to her two sisters, and she could continue the tradition.
The unmistakable rattling sound of wheels on carpet became louder and louder, as the trolley lady came closer and closer.
"A bit of all the things you have, please." She said, offering the shiny fat galleons to the lady, as snacks rained onto the two carriage seats.
"My treat. Help yourselves." She grinned, grabbing a chocolate frog and opening the cardboard box to expose the chocolatey goodness. She didn't care much for the frogs, she loved the cards.
And all along, the train sped through the countryside.

Seraphina hesitated for only a moment before stepping fully into the compartment. The warmth inside struck her after the cool mist of the platform. She inclined her head slightly in thanks and said politely, “Thank you. I’m Seraphina, nice to meet you,” before sliding onto the bench beside the girl, being careful not to crowd her. She folded her hands neatly on top of her skirt and kept her posture composed despite her heart still fluttering from the courage it had taken to enter. The train jolted beneath them and she steadied herself with a quiet breath.
Her gaze drifted briefly towards the window. Steam curled past the glass and the countryside was already racing by in streaks of green and gold. For a moment, she imagined Nyx chasing shadows in the garden at home and a pang of homesickness caught in her chest. She took a deep breath and lowered her gaze until the feeling eased.
The conversation picked up again quickly. The girl beside her was handing out sweets with such generosity. Seraphina accepted a Chocolate Frog with a soft word of thanks. She traced her fingertip along the patterned card before setting the frog gently aside. Her lips curved faintly as the frog twitched against the cardboard. She wasn’t sure she’d be quick enough to catch it.
When the conversation turned to favorite sweets, Seraphina found herself leaning forward slightly, drawn into the discussion. “My favorites are pumpkin pasties and chocolate frogs,” she admitted, her voice soft but warm. “I like that the frogs come with the cards. It feels like collecting little pieces of history.” She glanced at the others, her green eyes curious. “What about you? Have you got any favorites yet, or are you planning to try everything once?“

@Maisie Fenwick Rose Williams@Seraphina Vale 484/200 #36563c xxxHearing the sound of trolley wheels rolling, Rosaline opened her purse again and took out more coins. She’d love to share the snacks with everyone in the carriage. Although she hadn’t known them for very long, they already seemed like pretty nice people. She was happy she had met more people before she even arrived at Hogwarts.
The trolley came closer to their carriage. Her stomach grumbled a bit. Though she had her abundant breakfast at home, there was always room for dessert. She smiled at the thought of having those sweets in just a moment. The trolley lady opened the door and asked nicely if anyone wanted to buy anything. Maisie quickly bought a bit of everything and shared it with everyone. The girl was really generous. Rosaline thought that might be more than enough, so she just bought some pumpkin pastries and some more chocolate frogs to add to the pile of snacks. She thought this way, everyone in the carriage could enjoy the fun of opening the cards together. “A little more snacks wouldn’t hurt,” she said with a grin.
The pumpkin pastry glistened with a delicate sheen and had a sweet aroma. She carefully broke off a slice and placed it elegantly into her mouth. The pumpkin flavor melted on her tongue. A content smile spread across her face. She took her handkerchief and gently dabbed her mouth.
Noticing that Camille said that he didn’t know a lot about the four houses at Hogwarts, she felt she had some obligation to explain it to him. She brought up the topic again, “The four houses in Hogwarts are Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Basically, you can think of Ravenclaws as smart, Gryffindors as brave, Hufflepuffs as loyal, and Slytherins as ambitious. But this kind of introduction might be a little too simple. If you guys want to add something, that’d be great.” She was not an expert on Hogwarts. She simply shared what her cousins had told her long ago, hoping in this way, Camille would gain a little more understanding about the houses. Otherwise, if he still had no idea by the time of the Sorting Ceremony, if she was in that situation, she would certainly feel rather flustered. However, she didn’t think the boy would be like that, based on his composed demeanor.
After a while, listening to other people’s favorite snacks, she joined in the conversation with a cheerful tone, “I love chocolate frogs too! And the sugar quill, they’re really fun to use while doing homework. They make it feel less dull. I think Every Flavour Beans are fun, but I never dare try the weird-colored ones.” The childish side of her began to show more. She was aware of that, but she thought it wouldn’t be a problem in this compartment. “What about you two?” she turned to the two boys in the compartment and asked.

| CV | His wallet remained untouched when the trolley rolled by, the horribly, squeaking noise from metal grinding against metal sending icy shivers straight down his, currently stiff, spine. Compared to the others in his compartment that quickly dug into their treats, and Maisie who might have bought something of everything they had to offer, Camille was not at all excited to eat candy. He’d rather wait for the real food to arrive, and hopefully from something more sanitary than from the same half-rotten trolley offering frog candies and vomit beans. One of the girls, Rosaline, rounded back to the topic of houses, kindly informing him about the main stereotypes of the four. Smart, brave, loyal and ambitious were rather vague, general enough that he could, based on that information alone, see himself more or less a decent fit in all of them. Loyal and bravery might not be his most defining traits. Camille was loyal to those who had proved themselves worthy loyalty, not by default. While not a coward, he wasn’t stupid enough to actively seek out danger if he could help it. Perhaps not Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, then. Leaving the theoretical possibility of the house of intelligence and ambition. With his rather lazy and time-efficient approach to things that weren’t required of him, Ravenclaw was the most likely choice. “Based on that information,” which was not much, “I would assume Ravenclaw.” Camille reflected, though in the end, he didn’t really have much preference. A painful rumble of his stomach made him discreetly press a hand to his middle. Embarrassed, he glanced among the others, hoping no one heard. Then his eyes darted towards the compartment door, where the trolley had just occupied the corridor. He hoped that he would not be kept waiting for much longer. “Candy? None, really,” Camille answered off-handedly to the question about their favorite snacks, his attention fully towards the door. With no sign of anything, he turned his gaze back to the others, shrugging. “If I had to pick something, perhaps a pain au chocolat?” Right now, he would have taken a pain a chocolat and savored it like the last meal of his life. He was not quite desperate enough to settle for chocolate frogs, however. While not usually indulgent when it came to sugar, nothing could go wrong with the texture-rich pastry, buttery and filled with melted chocolate. He didn’t bother clarifying for the rest of the group, in case someone was unfamiliar with French cuisine. Doubtful that the trolley offered French pastries, either. Even if they did, it was highly unlikely that they’d manage to do it justice according to his, and any French persons, tastes. Speaking of food, Camille couldn’t contain his wonder, and hunger, any longer. Another rumble, louder this time, erupted from his stomach. “Does anyone have any idea of when they’ll start serving real food?” |

Fred beamed when the girl who had just stepped in introduced herself. “Nice to meet you too,” he said, his voice full of genuine enthusiasm. He gave his hair a quick push out of his face, a habit whenever he was excited or a little nervous.
The moment his eyes landed on the growing pile of sweets spread across the seats, they lit up. “Wow, thanks so much, Rosaline, Maisie! This looks like a birthday party!” he exclaimed, already reaching for pumpkin pastries and a chocolate frog. He tore open the package in a rush, not caring in the slightest about what his mum would have said if she saw him stuffing himself with sweets before lunch. She’d wrinkle her nose for sure… but, well, lucky she’s not here, he thought, chuckling softly to himself.
As Rosaline explained the houses, Fred alternated his gaze between her and Camille, nodding along with his mouth full. He swallowed before speaking. “I think you explained it really well, Rosaline. I’d be chuffed to be in Gryffindor, you know? My dad was there, and he always says there’s no better place for someone like me.” Even though he didn’t really know what that meant, someone like him, he echoed the words anyway.
When the conversation circled back to sweets, Fred lifted the half-eaten Chocolate Frog in his hand. “I reckon this one’s my favourite. I’m always hoping to get a new card, I’ve got quite a few duplicates already,” he admitted with a lopsided grin.
Turning to Camille, he attempted: “I don’t think I’ve ever had this… ‘pan oh shocko-lat?’” His pronunciation was all wrong, and he frowned in concentration. “Maybe we’ll find something like that at the Hogwarts feast,” he added, shifting his gaze to include everyone. “My parents told me that after the Sorting Ceremony, there’s a huge banquet. If it’s even half as good as they described, none of us will be going hungry.”

"I've got a huge collection of cards back home, my brother also gave me most of his, since he graduated last year. I've got mostly all. I can give you some rare ones if you'd like." she said, turning towards Fred.
"I prefer peper imps, actually, though it makes me shudder, it's actually quite nice on a winter day."
When the conversation went back to the dreaded topic of houses, Maisie began to feel worried. She had decided when she was younger, and learning the family tree, a Lord by the name of Howard Williams, whom been sorted into Slytherin and later became infamous for tormenting muggles, that she would dislike becoming a member of Slytherin. Surely the genes would spread to her, was what she had believed for many years. He was, in her father's words, the only one tainting the family's name. And Maisie didn't want to cause trouble for her family.
Gryffindor for the brave, Ravenclaw for the wise, Hufflepuff for the just, and Slytherin for the ambitious. She was a bit of everything, but what would she be sorted into? Rosaline thought she'd be in Ravenclaw or Slytherin, Camille seemed settled to become a Ravenclaw, and Fred hoped to become a Gryffindor. What about her?
"I just hope for anything but Slytherin. I think you'd make a great Gryffindor, Fred. My brother said the sorting hat tends to keep family in the same house. Also, you'd probably have your father's qualities."
She tore open carefully opened a box of Every Flavour Beans, and took out a handful. Trying to make herself unnoticeable, on the pretence of extracting herself from the conversation, she carefully sorted the handful of beans into two piles.
Surpressing a sly smirk, she tipped one of the two groups of beans into her mouth and put the other group on the top of the beans in the box. Then, as to appear not guilty, she put a toffee into her mouth and looked out the window.
I need the right time.
The right time came not so long later, when Camille's stomach rumbled, and he asked if real food would be coming. Adding onto Fred, she replied, "A pain au chocolat is a chocolate pastry. And I heard the feast is amazing! It has all you can imagine and the food magically appears and disappears! Here, in the meantime, do you want to try some beans? Not all are horrid, some are quite nice, like cotton candy and cherry." She offered the innocent box of beans around.

- Seraphina smoothed her skirt once more, her fingertips brushing the folds as though neatening her clothes might steady the fluttering of her thoughts. The others were talking about the houses — Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin — and despite herself, she felt her pulse quicken with an odd mixture of nerves and excitement. It was a subject she had read endlessly about in her family’s library. Her mother’s shelves were lined with dusty tomes and brittle scrolls, many of which mentioned the old founders by name. She had promised herself not to speak too much, not to fall into the habit of reciting information as though reading aloud from a book. Yet when the moment came, she found her fingers fidgeting in her lap and words rising to her lips before she could stop them.
"You've already mentioned the names of the houses," she began softly, trying to sound casual. But the excitement in her voice gave her away. "Each house has a noble history tied to remarkable witches and wizards." She realised that she was sitting straighter now, with her hands folded neatly in her lap, but her posture was full of energy. "You can earn points for your house if you do well in class or behave honourably. If you break the rules, however, you lose them. At the end of the year, the house with the most points wins the House Cup. It’s said to be one of the greatest honours a student can bring to their house."
She took a deep breath, realising that she was beginning to rush. Nevertheless, she pressed on, her voice gathering momentum like a stream quickening its pace over stones. "Hogwarts was founded by four witches and wizards, each of whom gave their name to a house: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. They valued different qualities in their students and wanted these qualities to shape the school."
Seraphina’s green eyes glinted with almost reverent admiration as she listed them. "Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve and chivalry. Their emblem is the lion: proud and strong, and the colours are red and gold. Hufflepuff value hard work, loyalty, patience and fair play. Their animal is the badger and their colours are yellow and black. Ravenclaw is for those who value intelligence, creativity, curiosity and wit. Their emblem is the eagle, soaring high, and their colours are blue and bronze. Finally, there is Slytherin. They values ambition, leadership, cunning and resourcefulness. The serpent is their emblem and their colours are green and silver."
Her voice faltered slightly when she said "Slytherin", not because she disliked the house, but because she recalled her father’s measured tone whenever it was mentioned: admiring, yet cautious. She wondered what the others would think, but hurried gently onward.
"The Sorting Ceremony itself is done by the Sorting Hat," Seraphina explained, lowering her voice conspiratorially as if sharing a secret. "It senses your qualities and strengths, but I’ve also heard that it listens to your wishes. My brother Bram told me that the Hat sometimes hesitates between two houses. In the end, the choice can be yours. So there’s no need to worry about being put somewhere you don't want to be."
She paused, realising that her cheeks had grown warm. She had spoken for longer and faster than she had intended to. To soften the blow, she let out a faint laugh, her tone gentler now. "Forgive me, I’ve read perhaps too many accounts of Hogwarts history.
My mother and my oldest brother were both in Ravenclaw. I think I’ll end up there too. But," she added quickly, a spark of honesty brightening her expression, "no matter where we end up, I think what matters most is what we make of it. The houses guide us, but they don’t define us."
Her gaze flickered towards the others, then towards the pile of sweets. When the topic of the feast came up, Seraphina added: "Apparently, the feast has dishes of every kind you can imagine. My brothers told me that it feels like stepping into a dream. With a slight smile, she told Camille, "They might have your chocolate pastries, too."
When Maisie offered her a bean from the box of Every Flavour Beans, Seraphina chose one at random, popped it into her mouth and waited expectantly, her eyes widening and her shoulders stiffening as the flavour hit her. A grimace tugged at her lips. "Oh," she murmured, swallowing quickly, then admitting, "I think… that one was spinach." Her blush deepened, but her soft laugh dispelled her embarrassment.

@Maisie Fenwick Rose Williams@Seraphina Vale 608/200 #36563c xxxQuietly sitting on her seat, Rosaline listened intently to what the other people in the carriage were saying. She smiled as the Chocolate Frog cards topic appeared. It was a new experience to share wizarding snacks with her peers. She was used to hiding her witch identity in front of her Muggle classmates, and her cousins were too grown up for the cards, so she didn’t have someone to trade cards with. Not that she had felt lonely before, but now she could finally share a similar experience with her future classmates.
Camille mentioned the pain au chocolat. At first, she was confused, but then she realized it was a pastry she had once eaten in France. She replied to Camille’s question, adding to the others’ earlier responses, “I think there won’t be any pain au chocolat or proper meals on the train trolley, though I’d like some too. However, I’ve heard that there will be a grand banquet, just as Frederick, Maisie, and Seraphina mentioned. I hope you’ll find something you like then.” She showed a gentle smile. Thinking about the feast later made her quite excited; she wondered how many dishes would be there, and if there would be her favorite food.
As other people in the carriage continued chatting, Rosaline finished her pumpkin pastry. She carefully wiped her hands with a tissue, making sure they were clean. Maisie offered the group Every Flavour Beans. She reached and took the orange one. “Thank you for the beans,” she said with a grin. Hoping the bean would be citrus-flavored, she put it into her mouth. “Blimey, this is spicy,” she exclaimed, pulling a funny face. “This must be curry flavor,” she laughed. She was curious about what flavours the others would get.
She tilted her head toward the people who were talking, tucking a strand of her chestnut-brown hair behind her ear. The conversation shifted back to sorting. Camille didn’t seem to have a strong preference, though he said he might end up in Ravenclaw. The boy sat next to her, Frederick, said he would love to be sorted into Gryffindor. Maisie expressed her feelings about Slytherin. Seraphina, the last girl to enter the carriage, said she might be sorted into Ravenclaw. Everyone else seemed quite certain about their choice. Rosaline still wasn’t sure which house she wanted to be in. But the final result would be revealed a couple of hours later. It wasn’t something she needed to worry about.
She turned to Frederick and said, “I agree with Maisie, you’ll be a great fit for Gryffindor! Family members often tend to be sorted into the same house, though there are exceptions.” Rosaline had roughly introduced the four houses earlier; after that, Seraphina began to explain them with great eloquence. Her tone carried more excitement and enthusiasm than before. Rosaline’s eyes were full of surprise as Seraphina kept speaking. When she finished, Rosaline couldn’t help but be awed, “Wow, Seraphina, you’re like a Hogwarts encyclopedia! I learned a lot from what you said.” She paused for a moment, brows knitting a bit, as if she were thinking. At the end, her expression eased. She continued,“And to top it off, if you win matches, you can earn points too!” Looking around to observe everyone, she kept saying, “Are you planning to play any sports at Hogwarts? I’m really interested in joining the Quidditch team.” She couldn’t hide her excitement about the topic; she beamed. She was more relaxed than she was when she first went on this train. That was why she gradually expressed more feelings toward them. The lively atmosphere in the carriage was infectious.
