all Sabrina's actions/thoughts are in character
"Ay dios mío," Oh my god Sabrina muttered, shaking her head at the heavy paper she held. The way her mamá's handwriting curved and dotted the accent marks reminded her of home, and how she wished she could be at home! Teresa and Daniel, the letter had christened them, were only a day old. Sabrina was already jealous of her sister- the oldest one- for getting to see their two new siblings first while she was stuck at school till break.

Classes for the day had ended and Sabrina was settled in her dorm, analyzing the details of her mamá's letter. The babies were healthy, she'd said, healthy and perfect. She could only hope for such perfection in an infant. And the twins had been so close to being born on Sunday, too! Sabrina loved Sundays with her family, iglesia church in the morning, followed by helping make salteñas with Catrina. And now there were two more mouths to feed, two more kids to look after during the summer.

And suddenly the letter felt so much heavier, like a deadening weight in her hands. How was she going to be capable of looking after twins, how could she manage to teach them right? It wasn't even that the responsibility was up to her solely, she had Catrina and her mamá's help. Papá would be there to keep Luís out of the way, and one day to teach Daniel how to grow up just like he did. And still, this weight fell heavy on her shoulders. Catrina was almost 16, she had to focus on her studies, Luís was in no way capable of taking care of infants, and so Sabrina lifted the letter to her eyes once more to study the writing. She had to be there for Teresa and Daniel. But she was hundreds of miles away at Castelobruxo while her family was marveling over the babies in Bolivia.

She folded the letter back up and sighed. "¿Cómo voy a estar ahí para ti?" How am I going to be there for you? she whispered. she wasn't ready for this! Who could she even turn to about this?

It was a cloudy Summer day in Brazil. Lorelai had a love/hate relationship with this kind of weather. She loved when it was sunny out, but today she was kind of loving this kind of weather. Classes were out for the day and she had put on some comfortable clothes, put her hair up in a ponytail and was reading a magazine. Eventually, in the middle of reading the magazine she got extremely bored, so she looked up and saw... Was that Sabrina?

Sabrina was a girl she'd met in class and they became friends. Lorelai really liked her, she was nice and seemed cool. Being the sociable girl she was, she decided to approach the Bolivian. As she approached her, she had a feeling the girl was not okay. Lor spoke Spanish pretty well, so she caught the last thing she muttered. Lori was now officially curious... who was 'you'?

She remained silent for a couple seconds and then decided to talk to her, maybe cheer her up and understand why she was in that state. "Hola Sabrina, ¿estás bien? Te ves... preocupada..." Hey Sabrina, are you okay? You look... worried... She tried to smile but seeing her in that state, even she couldn't. That was the thing about the Brazilian, she always tried to make others happy, always putting them above herself.

all Sabrina's actions/thoughts are in character
She’d pulled the parchment too tightly, the letter’s corner tumbled to the ground. Sabrina watched it, falling, falling. She couldn’t do this, she was nowhere close to being able to look after them all the way in Brazil. Would Teresa and Daniel just forget her during the time she spent at school?

Sabrina looked up to hear the voice of Lorelai Diniz, a friend she’d made in class. It’d felt like forever since she’d seen her, how long had it been anyway? Those days, everything seemed to blend into one.

“Lorelai,” she said, stating the obvious. “Estoy...estoy bien, supongo.” I’m… I’m okay, I guess.

Was it right of her to immediately throw this on Lorelai? Probably not. Did she feel like she had any other choice? No. Sabrina sighed and lifted the letter for Lorelai to see.

“Ayer nacieron mis hermanitos. Los gemelos Teresa y Daniel.” My little siblings were born yesterday. Twins Teresa and Daniel. She laughed, a haunting, empty echo of a laugh, tossing her hands up like she’d already given up. “Están en Bolivia, no puedo estar allí para ellos. No puedo hacer nada.” They're in Bolivia, I can't be there for them. I can't do anything.

Sabrina felt hopeless. Empty. She was so far away, it didn’t even matter that Brazil bordered her home country. She wasn’t there. Those first weeks with the babies, the new routines, it would all change. Once she finally came home, it was like she was a visitor in her own home.

“Lo siento, lo olvidé, ¿tienes hermanos?” I’m sorry, I forget, do you have siblings?
