CARNIVAL GAMES 28/08/25═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════With one last, deliberate glance in the girl’s direction, Rafael crossed the threshold into the enclosure, declining to waste breath on another word. Inside, Rafael was struck with a wave of heat. The close, almost stifling warmth carried with it the scent of sun-warmed turf, faint traces of perspiration, and the metallic tang of polished brass. Rafael was duly impressed by its illusion; the organisers had encapsulated the essence of a Quidditch pitch with fascinating verisimilitude.
Around him, dozens of Snitches darted through the air in quicksilver bursts, their golden bodies catching the light in erratic flashes. For a moment, Rafael allowed himself to be briefly mesmerised, until the unwelcome awareness of another presence interrupted the spell. The girl whose misstep had earlier creased his leather shoes had trailed in after him. He shifted aside with a stiff nod as he acknowledged her entrance whilst discreetly placing a comfortable distance between them, determined to avoid a repeat of their earlier collision.
A sudden gleam at the periphery drew his attention-- a lone Snitch darted into view and hurtled past his ear, veering toward yet another newcomer. She stood with her gaze locked upwards. She must have chosen her target. Sensible...The surest way to fail It was to flail at the first glimmer. Rafael lingered near the entrance, watching the interplay of movement. He preferred to read the rhythm of the space before committing; how fast the Snitches moved, banked, dipped into reach. However, he knew they were designed to be unpredictable, engineered for chaos. He lifted his chin, scanning the sky of the pitchroom. A second Snitch skimmed into view, this one sweeping low enough that its wings whispered past his hip. His hand tensed, nearly closing on instinct, dazzling blue locked onto the frenzied fluttering. It lingered maddeningly close, almost as though it were taunting him.
The faint turf-like give of the floor under his shoes sank under his feet as he dug his heels in, then lunged. His fingers snapped forward, cutting the air before enclosing the Snitch by its gleaming head. The wings buzzed furiously in his grip, then sputtered still. Rafael tucked the limp ball aside and pivoted to claim another, and then another.
And out he emerged with 80 crisp tickets.
The attendant gaped at him in amazement, brows creeping towards his hairline. “Blimey. Most folk take three or four tries to get the most outta it.” Rafael allowed the golden balls to tumble out of his grasp onto the wooden table. Enveloped in the man's hand, their inert forms looked oddly docile. "They lack patience," he replied plainly, already inclining his head in thanks when a barking, higher-pitched voice cut across the exchange. Rafael's mouth tightened into a scowl before he even turned, and the sight of the boy from earlier did nothing to improve his mood.
The fortunate news would be that Streeler Stealer was now unoccupied. Rafael turned to leave, only to notice leather-stepping girl exit the booth, blonde cascading down as she was hunched over a modest pile of freshly earned tickets. Rafael’s gaze dipped towards her stack, then his. Her count was thirty fewer than his. The number settled in his mind like a fact of nature that was not worth remarking on, but impossible to ignore. Feeling peculiarly satisfied, Rafael added his earlier winnings to the fresh stack, his fingers pressing his tally of tickets into a perfect line. The outcome had been obvious from the start.
Until she produced a further 80 from her bag.
Rafael froze in his tracks. The girl gazed up at him with guileless eyes, offering an infuriatingly warm smile. “Looks like you played well,” she said lightly. “Congratulations.” She gestured vaguely toward the rest of the carnival. “Where are you headed to next?”
Rafael did not so much as glance in the direction she indicated. “Where,” he began, ignoring her question entirely, “did you get those?” His eyes flicked once to the tickets, then back at hers. His reaction may have made the question feel less like idle curiosity and more like an accusation.

80 tickets! Pyce had gotten all 80 tickets! They had no idea they had such skill! Catching all of those potions was nothing short of a miracle. Especially considering they had done better than Hecate! He hadn't even gotten half of the tickets Pyce had. 35 wasn't a bad number, but Pyce had gotten more on their first game! (Granted, Pyce had been playing it safe, but they weren't going to admit that.)
"How many tickets do we have altogether?" They asked, handing over their collection.
"Counting this round?" Hecate counted through the new tickets, taking a minute to add them all up. "Remind me why you're not ticket keeper?"
"I handed them to you and you took 'em."
"Right. Well- We've got... Over 200?" And Pyce suddenly did not trust that number. "Anyway, doesn't matter, does it. Gnome time?" He asked, getting the pair back on track. Pyce had nearly forgotten that they weren't originally going to Potion Plop Panic.
"Yeah, gnome time." The two finally made their way to where they were supposed to have been some time ago. Hecate got to go first. He hopped away with 69 tickets, and the smuggest look known to man on his face. Pyce resisted the urge to groan and stepped up to the booth themself.
OOC note; Pyce only has 130 tickets after round 2 IC. Anything Hecate earns is strictly flavor. Also, after round 2, the number is 245 between both twins

Pam raised her eyebrows at the boy, torn between amusement and confusion. He seemed to be majorly bothered my her own share of 80 tickets which she had oh-so-conveniently won at the first game. Pam glanced down at the tickets, which were now tucked safely inside her bag, and then back up at the boy opposite her, whose eyes were now boring into her own with an intensity that rather scared her.
"The first game I played was Chalice Choice." She replied. "I won these over there." She pointed over her shoulder, towards the direction she had come from, "If you're looking to go for that, it should be somewhere in that direction."
Pam risked a glance around, attempting to settle on her next choice. The last two games had been quite fun, even if she had done much better in the first one than the second. Very soon, two games caught her attention.
Airplane toss and Streeler Stealer. Both of those sound really fun.
She wasn't quite sure which one to go to. Maybe I can do both one after another? Making up her mind, Pam started to step towards the stall labelled "Airplane toss" before remembering her companion. She turned towards the boy again, "Er... I'm gonna head over there... See you around."
Next target decided, Pam stepped away to try her luck at the next game.

♕- Afternoon of Aug. 28th, 2025 | Carnival Games, London Quidditch Stadium -♕
A loud bell chimed overhead, signalling the game's cessation; The game ended just as fast as it began. Between his and Geneviève's laughter-filled banter and the rapid pounding of gnomes against their mallets, the ringing sound was nearly inaudible between the couple's antics.
Glancing at their high scores, Alphonse's gaze widened with mock horror at the ghastly sight of their accumulated scores. Her score outnumbered his own. "How did you-" he exclaimed with a chuckle, "You must've cheated." It wasn't as though the Toussaint progeny had allowed her to win, but the boy certainly didn't give the game his all. But still, credit where it's due. His focus was far too occupied with simply enjoying her presence than winning—not that that would dissuade him from bantering with the girl.
The booth-keeper would hand Alphonse the tickets earned from his lackluster performance.
"Remind me not to make you mad," Alphonse teased lightheartedly as they scoped out another game to try, "You must've practiced your moves with your brothers. Perhaps I should worry about your swing, too."
Their perusal led them to a new game called 'Diadem Toss', and they stood in a line as other patrons had their attempts. Chattering and joking away the time, Alphonse and Geneviève were finally up. He flashed a grin in her direction before the game began.
Remedy.

The smile on Mad's face made this detour absolutely worth it, even if Dee didn't expect to win any reasonable number of tickets from this game. She'd started incorporating some strength training in her routine since joining the racing team (and getting knocked off her broom barely past the starting line during her first race), but her strategy still relied on speed and agility more than muscles. So Dee waved at Aly, content to just let her boyfriend have his fun on this one...
But then Madhup decided to raise the stakes. He should have really known what he was doing with that comment, issuing a challenge that immediately reflected in the glint in her eyes. "Oh yeah?" she asked, innocently, raising a hand to his face to run the thumb across mentioned beard. "Wouldn't want anything to happen to your beard..." Even if it had come in a little stronger since their first meeting a year ago. That had just been silly. (It was still silly.)
Bolstered by her competitive spirit, Dee stepped up to the sword first, eyeing up the setup skeptically. It was sunk deeply into the anvil. There was no way she'd be able to even move it an inch from down here but maybe... She gave the carny an innocent smile. "Can I..." She gestured towards the anvil, then, upon the amused shrug, hopped up onto it. That angle should give her more leverage (hopefully). Blowing Mad a kiss, she squatted down to wrap her hands around the sword handle, and, engaging all of her meager core and thigh muscles, pulled. It... worked better than expected. After a moment, the sword started sliding out, and when her hands finally slipped, she was able to collect a very respectable 75 prize tickets.
She was still fake-pouting when she re-joined Mad, showing him the palms of her hands, red from the unfamiliar strain. "You know how much easier this is with magic?" she asked, but quickly dropped the pout for an impish smile as she showed him her tickets. "Good luck to you and your beard."
But then, Mad wouldn't be Mad if he didn't take this opportunity to flex his muscles. (Literally.) Despite Dee's heckling and giggling from the side, he had to go and beat her, coming out just a handful of tickets ahead. "Boo," she said, sniffing. "Not fair. To make it up to me, we're going to the Streeler Stealer booth next."

Having done fairly decent at Potion Plop Panic, Lucille felt triumphant. She felt her gambles weren't quite paying off, but she was still determined to stick to them. After all, what was the fun in playing it safe?
With renewed vigor, Lucille didn't take long to identify her next target. Discombobuladder. She kept reading the name as Discombobubladder, and the thought was funny to her. Let's hope the ride wouldn't disorient her so much that it would live up to that name.
Being disoriented, or discombobulated, if you will, wasn't a concern on Lucille's mind. Her worries instead lay on falling off. She didn't know if she'd be able to hang on with the ladders going this way and that. However, Lucille was never one to back down from a challenge, at least not when it came in the form of a carnival game.
She arrived at the booth and, now that she was closer and could see the ladders moving about, her stomach felt a bit queasy. She wasn't sure if it was from nervousness, or motion sickness. She had never had a problem with Muggle roller coasters or other rides, so she chalked it up to nervousness and determinedly stood rooted to the ground, waiting for her turn.
When she finally stepped up for her turn, she definitely seemed much more confident than she felt. The facade calmed her; fake it till you make it, after all.

That was.. quite fun. It was interesting that he had been focused for so many years on protecting whoever was catching the snitch, he never really gotten to know what it felt like to catch it instead. He was soo focused on it that he completely forgot that there was even a timer. Managing to catch another one… and another one .. and another one. The thrill of it all such a foreign feeling compared to holding his beater bat close and hitting the bludger to send someone off their brooms. It was …. nice. So nice that he felt a little envious of people who were in this position.
He was aware enough that the snitch game was a lot less comlicated than being a seeker on the quidditch pitch. At least Sara was in a controlled tent and with so many snitches in the tent, it was only a matter of being quick enough to grab it. Meanwhile real seekers only had 1 snitch to grab, with the tension of needing to find it before the other team's seeker did. And it was in a whole quidditch pitch where it could be anywhere. It made Sara be reminded of his talk with Miharu. What on earth happened to her to the point where she could think so little of her abilities and importance of her role as a seeker?
Sara ended up moving to another game he felt was interesting, regarding potions. He was generally anxious enough to panic about letting anything fall so maybe.. it would be fun to try out?

────────────────────────────────Siobhan let out an exhale as she dropped the sword back towards the anvil in which it resided. She hadn't raised it quite as high as everyone else, but she'd gotten about 90% of the way there which she was proud of. Her father always said, "it's not about being the best, its about doing your best." And she believed that she had used all her might to grip the sword and pull it.
However as the nice attendant counted out her tickets, she beamed excitedly- knowing that she had been able to play games just like everyone else. Sure she might not be able to do as much as everyone else but she was still walking away from the game with 41 tickets. 41 tickets towards her ultimate goal, of a teddy bear that hugged you back when you were in it's presence. She didn't want Prat to hear her plans to exchange for the teddy bear but she wanted it.
Call her silly, but it fit her aesthetic and would fill the need she had for hugs without having to ask anyone. Hugs here at Hogwarts seemed to be in short supply and fjord knew she needed one more often than not. Besides- she didn't have someone to win her the prize like Alphonse was doing for his Beauxbatons beauty. If she wanted something from these games, she would need to play for herself
However she happily pulled Prat along to another game, wanting to play even more options in pursuit of the teddy bear. She tried to think of games that might be okay for her with the lack of her site. And then she heard the hoots and hollers of those who were watching in a crowd. A jerky, moving... something was flinging students around and it eerily reminded her of the one time at home where young "cow hands" had tried their hands at handling a mechanical bull. Of course she had seen her older brothers wrestle their steer to the ground once when he had gone on a rampage but she had been instructed not to get anywhere near the cow pasture.
But she had seen videos of American rodeo's and once thought that the idea of learning to control your body to match the bucking of the animal would be interesting except the real animals were often not kept in very good conditions. But this- this animal was very clearly a large snake. A Basilisk except not as dangerouss to the students, and not a real animal so not as cruel.
She eagerly approached the bench so to say, and waited in line to get her chance at handling the baslisk at it's worst. The cheers and boos of the crowd made her laugh, some of the students in front of her were doing really well. Others... well perhaps the ground was where they were best suited to stand.
"Time to see if you can match a farmgirl's hand at wrangling some animals!" Siobhan chided as she very gently elbowed Prat in his ribs.

Braving the Discombobuladder was honestly quite thrilling, even though Evony played it safe and went slow. She knew some people in line behind her were likely annoyed at her calculated and careful movements, but she reached the top and pocketed 50 tickets, so that’s all she cared about!
Now she was pumped and ready to face a new challenge. She glanced at the Bucking Basilisk… no, that one was a bit too physical for her. She would be embarrassed to be tossed about on the back of a giant snake in front of a large crowd of fellow students - especially as a Slytherin. No, thank you. Next, she passed the Whack-A-Gnome table. It looked kinda fun, even though it was a bit childish. She watched as a group of friends surrounded the table and cheered on the girl with the mallet. They hooted and cheered as she hit a gnome and then teased and playfully chided as she missed the next three. Evony imagined standing at the table alone, trying to hit the gnomes… Well, that was a depressing thought. No, that game seemed better played with friends - of which Evony was lacking at the moment.
Finally, she saw a game station with a sign that read “Potion Plop Panic”. A boy rushed side to side, holding a cauldron, and tried to catch “potion” bottles. She jumped slightly at the sound of a shattering of glass when he missed a bottle and a smile spread across her face. Yeah, okay, that looked fun. She stood in line and moved side to side, stretching her legs.

Okay. This wasn't going totally to plan, but at least she did better this time. And she could eat lunch. Stella stuffed the tickets in her pocket and bounded off to meet her sisters. It was a short break in-between games. They couldn't afford to lose much time eating, so whoever finished their game first was getting the food and a place to sit. None of them were particularly picky, so it didn't matter.
As it turned out, Ren had gotten out first, having found a nice table with enough room for all three of them. Stella bounded over and got to eating her lunch right away. Again, no time could be wasted.
"Ravenous thing you are, ain't ya?" Ren asked, having finished her lunch before Stella had arrived. "So, tickets?" Stella retrieved what she had and set them on the table. Ren counted them up and nodded. "Not bad. Not bad at all. Still waiting on Lily, though."
Not even a minute later, the Hufflepuff ran up to the table. Lilah's hair was a bit messy, strange, given how she had played what Stella could only describe as "boring" games.
"We are going to lose." Lilah whined, tugging at the blurple ribbon in her hair. Stella startled, Ren jumped from her seat. They couldn't lose! The odds were so completely on their side that, if they lost, Stella would never be able to look Pyce or Hecate in the eye ever again! She'd be mocked relentlessly! By Hecate. Pyce wouldn't have the heart.
"Explain." Lilah held up her tickets. A sizable sum, certainly more than Stella's.
"I got under 25 this round. Yes, my first game was great, but if this keeps up, we. are. losing."
There was a tense moment before Ren slid a little paper tray of kabobs over. Lilah grabbed one and quickly scarfed it down.
"So, what do we do?" Stella asked. She had managed to fall short of 50 tickets in both her games. Knowing Pyce, they were bound to play it safe, which means, at the very least, individually, they were ahead.
"We just have to keep trying. I think I'm going to play this round safe though." Lilah rubbed the back of her neck.
"I'm not! I'll see if I can-" Ren paused mid rant. She sighed and slumped into her seat. "I'll try that Troll Hammer booth." Lilah's face screwed up like she ate a lemon. "I know we had a plan, but maybe this might work?"
"I'll still go on the basilisk." Stella offered to her now pouting sister. Lilah nodded.
"Good luck." The Hufflepuff stole another kabob before leaving to her next game. Stella returned her nod and returned to the crowds and the booths. She took a deep breath, just to calm down. They couldn't lose this. They just couldn't! And so she went to the Bucking Basilisk booth, hopeful, yet worried.
