She'd had some reluctance cleaning up her booth—it had been so lovely to have a place just to made things. The booth had felt so spacious compared to her dorm back in Ravenclaw tower. But the booth, too, had provided a wonderful, wonderful opportunity for a key part of the next summer event: her hat.

Hours and hours she'd worked putting together the most perfect hat she could think of. Inspired by the mid 1960s, it was a pillbox hat and veil except that the veil was crochet and fastened with a large ribbon. The color was kind of pink-grey hue, something that could be almost neutral but still held a hint of femininity and playfulness.

She matched this with another handmade dress in a pink that didn't quite match, but borrowed a similar lace patterning as well as the bows, on the shoulder this time. It was perhaps a little fanciful, but was this was a Derby was about? A kind of whimsy and majesty it was. That much was clear from the white gloves of the student who greeted them as they entered. Evelyn, she remembered, the wise broomracing guru and she had simply splendid had of her own with all kinds of animal feathers. Maisie made a mental note of that for next time.

Inside, it was like another world, especially if you counted the food. And Maisie absolutely counted the food, quickly filling up a plate with snacks. And then, she took a closer look at the horses. They were nothing short of gorgeous. Picking one would be impossible, but she knew she could probably only afford one bet—maybe two. After some observation, she settled on Firebolt Fury. Yeah, that one looked up to the job.

Then, she would approach the track, hoping to get a good spot. She found herself near a girl in a red sundress with a black sunhat. But really, it was a work of art as it appeared more like a nest. Suddenly, Maisie's hand crocheted veil and vintage-inspired pillbox looked all too simple. Still, she tried to take it in stride. "I love you hat!" she said to her, "Did you make it yourself?" If yes, the Ravenclaw would need to step up her game.

Lucille, apparently, had made it her mission to stare down at Phoenix Flare as much as possible, almost as if she could somehow get the horse to win if she just wanted it enough. She didn't notice another girl walk up near her, until she spoke. Lucille turned, startled, but her surprised expression was quickly replaced with a wide grin as the girl complimented her hat.

"And I, yours!" she exclaimed, looking at the girl's hat. It was far more elegant than Lucille's, and certainly better fitted to a racetrack. Still, she liked how silly her hat was, just as dramatic and extravagant as Lucille tended to be.

She was about to ask the girl if she had bet on a horse, until she noticed the plate of food in her hands, stacked with all sorts of appetizing snacks. "Oh my God, I forgot there's food!" Lucille said with a laugh. "I'm sorry, I was just so excited that I rushed right over to the track and didn't bother looking around at all." She figured she would go get some snacks soon. After all, you didn't watch a movie without popcorn, so why should she watch the Derby without some food, too?

Lucille shook her head, realizing this might be a bit too much energy when the other girl had simply said a few words. She dialed it back, except dialing it back for Lucille typically meant she was still talking. She turned back to the track, eyes finding Phoenix Flare once again. "Who do you think will win? I have my bet on Phoenix Flare. She's that one over there." Lucille pointed down at the flashy bay mare. "Apparently, she has final dramatic bursts in training. I would love for a hot finish like that to work out in the race."

Lucille wished to speak more, but she willed herself to stop talking to give the other girl a chance to speak, quelling her excitement. The hat she wore gave Lucille the impression that they might get along. It was as fantastical as hers, but certainly the two had expressed it differently.

Raindrops pitter pattered against the colourful canvas ceiling secured high overhead, lending a sort of white noise background ambiance that made the stadium event feel somewhat more cozy and intimate despite the expansive area. Guests within the confines of the stadium were well-protected from the elements, new arrivals greeted with a hot-air charm to dry their attire. Similarly, any who might have needed to leave the premises (and therefore the protective barrier of the canvas ceiling) would be offered a water-repelling charm from Evelynn to ensure the hardwork that had gone into the crafting and assembly of their outfits would not be undone by Mother Nature's fickle behaviour. Already, the silver-eyed witch would consider the event a huge success, the students that had elected to attend the festivities clearly having gone out of their way to play up to the fashionable recommendations and demonstrate their creativity.

The first to approach was a boy unfamiliar to her. @Stephen Schwartz must have been in his mid-teens, however, perhaps just a little younger than herself, wearing a most stunning top hat of mottled grey crushed velvet wrapped with purple that had been embroidered with a variety of images. "Vitamixin' It Up for the win, please," he spoke out to her. Pulling her focus from the embroidered Pegasus amidst surrounding floral and derby-inspired embellishments, Evelynn fixed him with a steady gaze and dipped her chin in acknowledgement. "Vitamixin' It Up it is, then," she replied, although she slid his coinage back to him. "Students are not required to pay for their bets. Consider this more like... a game with prizes. It would be uncouth to encourage true gambling among the underaged." Handing him a ticket to confirm his 'bet', she added, "Be sure to turn your hat over in the final stretch to pour out what luck you accumulate for your steed's last burst of effort." A faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she proceeded to pass to him a string of PRIZE TICKETS. "A most lovely hat. Enjoy the race."

@Graci Laren came next, a young freshly graduated first-year that Evelynn recognized from Gryffindor. "Good morning Miss Laren," she greeted the girl somewhat formally. The two had never really spoken or shared any experiences of note, but Evelynn's habit of jotting down notes during the sorting ceremonies meant that she tended to have a penchant for names and faces, especially when it came to her own cubs. "What a lovely hat. Did you make it yourself? I am rather partial to Pride and Prejudice, myself." She handed her a string of PRIZE TICKETS before documenting the girl's bet for Phoenix Flare, and passing over the confirmation slip. "Welcome to the Granian Derby. Enjoy the race."

Evelynn's mood continued to climb with every new arrival, a sense of satisfied accomplishment settling into her core to witness the unfolding of so many weeks of careful planning. Genuinely smiling as @Harvey Barrows greeted her, she dipped her head and melodically chimed back, "And a good day to you, young Sir." He was a Hogwarts student, she was certain, although in that moment she couldn't quite remember from which house. Given that she seemed to associate his face with the dungeons, though, it must have been either Slytherin or Hufflepuff. Slytherin, she would have to guess, given the emerald of his hat affixed with white and black roses and little silver accents. "And thank you kindly. You are looking rather dapper, yourself," she retorted smoothly, not missing a beat in handing him a string of PRIZE TICKETS "Bluebottle Betsy it is." Dipping her chin in acknowledgement, she handed him the confirmation slip for his bid before wishing him luck.

"What a lovely hat." The rich maroon swirls and ecclectic display of pocketwatches had captured Evelynn's attention almost immediately, leading the soon-to-be seventh yera to remark on the piece before @Ophelia Northwell had even opened her mouth. "Inspired by Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter?" So far, it had seemed to be those with influence from the muggle world (or so she assumed) who had been the more outlandish with their creations. Like those who came before her, a string of PRIZE TICKETS was quickly handed over as reward for having donned a hat followed by a slip of paper confirming the placement of her bet. "Best of luck to Phoenix Flare. I hope you enjoy the race."

@Rafael Kraus entered the event with the same sort of energy as the dark clouds looming above. Something about him suggested a whorl of thoughts churning behind his eyes, as though the world weighed heavily upon his obsidian clothed shoulders. "Elegantly understated," Evelynn remarked upon his approach, the low melody of her voice attempting to offer a measure of respectful affirmation without going over-the-top or drawing too much attention to him. But she meant it. Whoever had put together his outfit had excellent taste. Still, she had to suppress the amusement that threatened to overtake her features at the way he peered at her hat, and instead respectfully dipped her chin to mirror his own eventual curt nod. After handing him his string of PRIZE TICKETS for the hat, he disappeared into the crowd, silver eyes trailing after him. It wasn't until sometime later that his now familiar face would reappear. "You have returned," Evelynn remarked, head tilting with curiosity enveloped in expectation. "Have you found your champion, then?" she wondered. Confirming her assumption that his reappearance meant a desire to place a bet, she nodded solemnly. "Avada Run Fasta it is." And a moment later, he would find the confirmation slip of his bet tucked into his palm. "Best of luck with your choice. I hope you enjoy the race."

Shortly after, another young face arrived dressed to the nines like an expensive bag of luxury cotton candy, all in soft feathers and ribbons and chiffon of delicate pinks. If only she'd had long copper curls, @Livia Machavariani could have passed for a younger version of @Winnie Athanatos. Well, if not for the aura that seemed to surround her. Rather than the pink poofs and shimmering stones, it was a certain presence that heralded the girl's arrival, as though something terrible was harboured deep within her. While it hardly served to unsettle Evelynn's fearless heart, it did draw a curious silver eye. In response to the girl's silent greeting, Evelynn offered a wordless bow of the head and the faintest upturn of the corners of her mouth in turn. As though serving as some sort of key to the girl's inner thoughts, the string of PRIZE TICKETS that the senior handed the petite thing as reward for her hat, words spilled forward. "Of course, young Miss," Evelynn simply nodded, jotting down the girl's requested bet. "Vitamixin' It Up." She handed the girl the confirmation slip accomanied by a warm smile. "You are very welcome. I hope you enjoy the race."

@Zoe Nightshade certainly was correct with the assertion that her hat and outfit were memorable. They certainly made an impression upon the elder Gryffindor witch as soon as the young girl made her arrival at the entrance and betting station. "A snitch," Evelynn remarked, a hint of delight chiming in her tone as she acknowledged what she considered to be the crowning feature of the towering hat. While she didn't make the connection between the winged golden sphere and the teal-blue fascinator and surrounding phoenix feathers, she could--and would always--appreciate a Quidditch reference. "Are you a fan of the sport? And what secrets hide within the depths of that particular snitch, I have to wonder.." Her conspiratorial murmur accompanied a sly upturn of the corners of her mouth. "But I digress--" A silk gloved hand waved dismissively in the air before dropping to rest gently on the counter. "--will you be placing a bet on one of the Granians?" That, at least, seemed to spur the girl into action as her eyes dropped to the list of names. "Loki's Legacy," Evelynn repeated with a nod, recording the bet and handing the girl her confirmation slip and string of PRIZE TICKETS. "Let us hope he is every bit as cunning as his namesake, without the chaos."

Poor @Malcolm McGregor really did look like he had been forced into a costume cosplaying Willy Wonka. How could Evelynn conjure to mind anything else when faced with a just slightly faded plum-coloured suit paired with mustard stockings? The only (sort of) saving grace was that it was patterned with various derby-inspired embellishments. Slate gray eyes roamed from the horseshoes and ivy accents to the acorn buttons and embroidered winged horses. Even the leather shoes held a certain curl to them that lended an almsot elfish quality to the ensemble. It was exactly the sort of thing Evelynn had expected from the Wizardborn side of the community and she delighted in the ecclectic hat upon his head. Before he had even made it fully under the canvas line, she had already approached, a silver sheen of a magical umbrella held lofted above his head while he closed the final distance to escape the light rainfall. "Thank you very much," Evelynn smiled back, warmed by the amusement he had found in her hat. In an instance, the umbrella would disappear, the point of her wand redirected to face him as a jet of warm air banished any clinging dampness and raindrops from his person and wheelchair. If he had committed to making the trip despite the weather, she would ensure that he was comfortable, dry and warm, now that he had arrived. "I quite enjoy yours as well," she remarked, admiring the Granian-mounted bowtruckle in particular while handing him a string of PRIZE TICKETS. She allowed him a moment to study the racers' names before nodding once he'd settled on one. "Phoenix Flare it is," she affirmed, circling back around the booth to prep the confirmation slip. "She seems to be one of the more underestimated of the herd, but it is my understanding that she tends to have stronger performances in the final stretch than most. A solid pick, I should think." Withdrawing from around the counter, she handed the young boy his betting slip then crouched beside him. Her gaze redirected off into the stadium, a finger lifting to denote a path. "If you pass the tent with the blue standard, and round the bend where the green-robed witch is handing out pamphlets, there is a section of the stands set up in front of the benches for those who happened to bring their own seating with them." She gently touched a fingertip to the frame of his wheelchair and cast him a kindly sidelong glance. "It should give you a clear view of the whole track and the best view in the house to see Phoenix Flare make her dash across the finish line."

When @Lucille Rosenhart approached the entrance and betting station, Evelynn fixed her with an approving close-lipped smile, not unlike a proud matriach might display torwards a youngling who had won her favour. The hat atop the unfamiliar girl was extravagant with a capital EXTRA and the lioness adored it. "And what do we have here?" Evelynn mused, eyes taking their time to roam the full extent of the cephalic accoutrement. While it may not have displayed the same sort of intrigue of actual fire, there was a very obvious level of care and ingenuity that had gone into the design. "Ashwinder eggs, perhaps?" she cooed, the dove in the nest upon her own brow briefly flapping its wings before settling again. "A most necessary ingredient of Felix Felicis, of course. A most potent potion of which no doubt any of the jockeys would be keen to imbibe," the lioness continued, lidded gaze piercing the girl with a knowing look. All in play, of course. She seemed rushed to place her bet, however, and so Evelynn simply chuckled quietly to herself while handing both the confirmation slip and a string of to the girl PRIZE TICKETS. "Enjoy the race." Little did Lucille know that she would likely come face to face with Evelynn again in future in another likely-to-be-memorable way.

And perhaps it was all the best that the youngster had scampered off, for in her wake @Aly Salinger made her most glorious entrance, perfectly encapsulating Derby fashion. "Exquisite," Evelynn breathed in greeting, admiring--not for the first time--the extravagance of the wide-brimmed hat featuring her close friend's hallmark blue morpho butterflies coupled with the young woman's natural breath-taking beauty. She just made elegance look so easy. "Of course, please do," Evelynn smiled, internally glowing that even her closest friends seemed keen to partake in the event. "Nimble Nimbus seems a fine specimen," came her agreement. "I saw her briefly when they flew her in. Although if I were to bet, I would certainly have to place mine upon Bluebottle Betsy--she reminds me most of Cass, both in colouration and temperament." A quiet close-lipped chuckle echoed in her nose as Aly commented on the camp itself, Evelynn's expression shifting to one of almost awed surrender as she took her own opportunity to let her eyes wander around the nearby structures. "In truth, I can hardly believe how well it came together. I haven't the faintest idea which strings Peri--" It had to have been @Pericles Dralt, for who else on the team had that kind of wizarding connection? "--had to pull to bring the various third-parties into the fold, but I am grateful. I can only hope students find the experience as memorable as I will." She trailed off almsot wistfully before glancing over to Aly. "You just missed him, by the by. Peri left not too long ago to fetch us some drinks. I can send him your way when he returns, though. We really ought to make sure we all get to enjoy it as much as everyone else." Then it was her turn to lean in conspiratorially, lips crimping in a way that hinted at a frustration behind the mask as she rested elbows upon the counter, chin poised just so upon interlaced digits. "Can I task you with...helping with that somewhat? He has been a bit...off, somehow, keeping himself busy the way he has. I have hardly had a moment to catch up with him at all. He is bordering on avoidant again, as though he is trying to distract himself from something." Or someone, though she wouldn't speak that worry aloud, and she would speak no more on it in that moment. She had a job to do, after all, so Evelynn handed over the betting slip and PRIZE TICKETS, then begrudgingly waved off her good friend with a promise to track her down later once the betting had settled.

If Aly had fluttered whimsically into the scene like the butterfly that she was, @Manu Macedo roared in like a raging inferno. It wasn't that she was particularly loud or demanding of attention, but the flickering blue flame encircled by the rim of obsidian atop her crown made her impossible to miss. Having only become properly acquainted with the young woman due to sharing accommodations this camp, Evelynn still did not know her well, but she carried herself with a certain guarded disposition that aligned with Evelynn's reserved nature. "And a lovely day to you as well, Manu." Naturally, the lioness regarded her quite
favourably, returning Manu's stiff smile with a disarming one of her own. "Of course I will mark you down for Snorting Hat," she assured her tentmate, handing her the confirmation slip a moment's later along with a string of PRIZE TICKETS, "For the hat. Aly seems to have found some seats over there, by the by," Evelynn continued, gesturing gently in the direction that the Ravenclaw seeker had wandered. "She asked that I direct you accordingly." And like that, the girl was off.

"A good day to you, Miss," Evelynn greeted a young raven-haired girl wearing a spectacularly elegant wide-brimmed hat, entirely unaware that the girl did not yet have a complete grasp of English. A hot-air charm had met @Sayaka Ito's arrival, banishing water stains from the lace and floral hat upon her head. "The sky weeps with emotion at such a beautiful piece," she smiled kindly. A quick "Reparo" had swiftly followed to repair any damage that may have been sustained in the girl's walk from the tents to the Stadium. "Thank you," the young girl had murmured, in what Evelynn had recognized as Japanese. While far from fluent (hence why not included in the list), thanks to her mother's language proficiency and voracious appetite for anime, it happened to be that the seventh year actually did know a few words and phrases. Certainly not enough to carry on a full conversation, and she her pronunciation would likely draw scrutiny, but she could at least muster the basics. And so she had quite easily answered, "Dou itashimashite you are welcome," and dipped her chin respectfully after relinquishing the PRIZE TICKETS before the girl disappeared to admire the event's set-up. It really was unfortunate that neither P.E.G.A.S.U.S., nor the camp organizers had been able to set up some means for complete language inclusivity, and Sayaka would likely come to learn that this tended to be the norm at all events. Fortunately, however, the sponsors had had a little more forethought. While the verbal announcements were in English, the Mahoutokoro student would readily find fliers and brochures that complemented the announcements in a variety of languages, such that they could be accessible to her in a written format.

No sooner had the Japanese student wandered off a short distance that was she replaced by a rather excitable looking child. Was she even old enough to be attending school? Evelynn had to wonder. @Stella Drake was practically swimming beneath a large floppy orange hat, appropriately tied in place with a large bow below her chin. As though Bo Beep had had a run-in with a fire cracker, it was adorned with reds and oranges and gold, shimmering crystals contrasting with the soft feather textiles. It was exactly the sort of kooky hat one might expect to find stowed away in Crazy Aunt Matilda's attic. "As you wish," she replied smoothly, barely hiding her smirk of amusement as she registered the girl's bet and handed her back both a slip of acknowledgement and a string of PRIZE TICKETS. "Best of luck to your steed. Enjoy the race."

@Hikari Fujimoto might have thought his hat ugly, by Evelynn certainly didn't. The roses and peacock, fowl and other avian feathers all affixed to the black bowler hat delighted, even if it did seem a touch out of place upon his brow. Still, she fixed him with a warm and welcoming smile, handing him a string of PRIZE TICKETS for his effort. "Loki's Legacy it is," she nodded, handing over a confirmation betting slip once she'd jotted down his request. Unlike some, he didn't seem the sort to converse and quickly turned away. Although she was pleased to see that he'd responded the Japanese-speaking girl from earlier, indicating that he could speak English. Perhaps he'd be able to help her.

@Pyce Rotanski arrived upon the scene soon thereafter wearing a hat that almost could have been considered quite unremarkable if it weren't for the gold-dusting of glitter that made it shimmer in the subtle ambient light. Their sibling--Evelynn could only assume that the pair of gingers were twins given their similar appearance--had elected for something a bit on the fancier side, but the lioness greeted the pair of them with the same warmly polite smile and handed them each a string of PRIZE TICKETS, "For such wonderful hats." A somewhat confused experssion seemed to greet the gesture, and so she continued on to explain, "You will be able to spend these at the Ticket Exchange for a variety of prizes towards the end of camp. Might I interest either of you in placing a bet on a winning Granian?" At least one of the two seemed to alight at the suggestion, quickly settling on Loki's Legacy. The one in the boater's hat required a bit of coaxing. Evelynn simply stood idly as the pair decided, then handed them each their confirmation slips and gestured off towards the central tents. "Do be certain to find yourselves some refreshments and a fine seat. I hope you enjoy the race."

Wearing a large black hat adorned with little red roses to match the rose pinned to her red haltered dress, @Camille Pruitt fit in very well with the crowd that had similar dressed to the nines for today's event. "Welcome to the Granian Derby, young Miss," Evelynn had greeted her, offereingthe young girl a warm smile. "For your hat, naturally," she continued, handing over a string of PRIZE TICKETS, before adding, "Oh, no, my dear, that will not be necessary," when the girl tried to pay for her bet. "The bets are free of charge, and you will win a prize regardless of how well your steed performs. This may be one of those rare occasions where too-good-to-be-true is just simply good."

It was about then that @Pericles Dralt returned, a jolt of excitement juxtaposing the calm that washed over Evelynn at the sight of him. Granted, the small flutter at her core was quite quickly and easily dismissed as her eyes were drawn once more to the absolutely ridiculous hat upon his head. She'd thought she had gone the extra mile when she had conjured a bird to serve as teh centerpiece for her fantastical hat, but his use of the Teddy Bear to Spider transfiguration spell was on an entirely different level. "Honestly..." she mused, the corners of her mouth quirking up with amusement. "If any children have arachnophobia, I may just have to banish you off to the spectating stands." But she accepted one of the drinks, without further faux fuss. "Mn," the affirmative hum was the best she could do mid-sip as he asked about Aly. A small part of her sank at his quick inquiry to their close friend's arrival, that negative little voice in her head suggesting that it would mean that he might leave just when it had felt like she'd finally gotten to spend time with him. Even if it had been with a directive to help with the Derby rather than actually spend quality time, she found herself selfishly wishing he would stay. "Manu was here just a moment ago as well," she nevertheelss admitted, glass lowering to hover at her sternum, eyes dropping to its glistening contents as a gloved finger idly carressed its rim. "They have found seats just over there," she nodded her chin in their direction. A moment of silence passed, her gaze settling upon his form as he tallied up the bets thus far. Then she reluctantly broke it by suggesting, "I am sure they would enjoy your company for the race.." Her voice trailed off both from lack of enthusiasm with her own words and the stiffness that had overtaken Peri just as the announcer had gone to speak about his family's trading company. When he spoke, it was as though the lapse hadn't even happened. Evelynn's lips crimped. As much as his commentary about having seen Vitamixin' It Up's dame race in some distant Derby intrigued Evelynn, she was growing weary of the things that so frequently were left brushed under the rug and unspoken. "You did not know that he had taken out an advertisement."

@Derek Alexander Jay seemed enthusastic about the horses themselves, spending a good deal of time watching the Granian's as their jockeys finished up their warm-ups on the track. Unfortunately, rather than hide when he reached out towards the Blue Roan (which, despite the name, is actually still a shade of gray), he would find his palm pressed to an invisible barrier at the perimeter of the track just in time for the announcer to explain how the runes etched into the various distance markers protected the horses and jockeys from intrusion by spell or student. But his imagination could certainly run circles about the track envisioning how soft the horse's fur would have been. By the time he made it back to the voting booth, Evelynn temporarily pulled her attention away from Pericles putting their conversation on pause to fix the boy with a warm smile that perhaps might not quite have made it to her eyes. "Loki's Legacy it is," she affirmed, handing the boy a confirmation slip. "I do hope you enjoy the race. Be sure to find yourself food and drink before you settle in your seat."

Another familiar face made her appearance in the form of @Maisie Gemmell. Evelynn cast the young girl a warm and welcoming smile, "Good day to you Miss Gemmell. You have arrived just in time. The race has not yet started." Her focus shifted to the pillbox hat and veil upon the young girl's crown, expression softening approvingly. "How very understated," she commented. It wasn't large and flambouyant and wizardly grand like many of the hats that had arrived, but it had a collected and feminine charm of its own as though rebelling against gharish creations such as Evelynn's own. A string of PRIZE TICKETS were handed to the girl before a white lace-gloved hand gestured in towards the lawn where the tents awaited. "Please help yourself to food and drink and find yourself a good seat. Enjoy the race."

2025 Summer Camp Granian Derby OPEN
I would like to extend my sincerest apology for the huge delay in this moderation. Between travel, then physical unwellness, I have been struggling with time, energy and focus when it comes to anything remotely productive. As such, I have decided to combine the rest of the moderations into a single post so as to wrap this up and allow players to more easily move on from summer camp now that the new school year has begun.

It wasn't long before the voice of Jemba Rowan would ring across the stadium once more. "They're heading into the first turn... Phoenix Flare and Loki's Legacy still neck and neck. It looks like they might be losing a bit of focus, though. You can see them fighting for their heads, their jockeys trying to rein them in a bit." Evidently, the event was not simply about announcing the progress of the race, but also attempting to bring attention to some of the finer nuances of the sport, igniting the imaginations of junior and senior pupil alike as they watched on in awe as the large creatures progressed around the track.

"It's a common issue, of course," the announcer continued in stride, addressing the audience. "Young horses can get a bit too caught up in the moment, forgetting that they're in it for the long haul; they just want to out-pace whoever's next to them and end up using too much energy to win the battle only to lose the war! As you can see, the trio keeping pace right behind them have edged into the inside turn." Her voice paused momentarily as she, herself, watched on excitedly as that particular lead narrowed.

For those students who managed to split their attention between the Granian's and the surrounding environment as they pounded by, they might catch a few advertisements posted strategically at the turn. One such poster displayed the name "FRANSSONSTAV" prominently in large bold lettering. The Norwegian wandmaker, Astrid Fransson, was well known locally for her craft with wands, but was clearly trying to spread the name and tap into a foreign market. Those students who hailed from Durmstrang knew well enough that the now seventh-year Greta Fransson was expected to take up the family business after graduation.

"They're gaining ground! Snorting Hat has taken— no, that's Firebolt— hang on, Snorting Hat is fighting to keep the edge— NO! It's Nimble Nimbus on their outside. Look at those strides!" Excitement and admiration threaded through her words, a symphony to serenade the young mare's impressive feat. "As they approach the halfway mark, Nimble Nimbus has taken the lead after the first turn, edging out Firebolt Fury! Mistral & Mirror Racing's Snorting Hat is hard on their heels, showing no signs of tiring just yet. Loki's Legacy has surpassed Phoenix Flare to take a solid fourth position on a comfortable middle lane. Settling into their own formation at the rear are Bluebottle Betsy, followed shorting behind by Vitamixin' It Up, and Avada Run Fasta taking up the rear. All I can say is Avada better run faster! He's got a lot of catching up to do!"

"And they're reaching the mid-stretch now. Nimble Nimbus being ridden hard with Firebolt Fury hot on her tail." Surely the announcer must have consumed some sort of soothing tonic prior to the event, for despite the non-stop verbiage, she didn't seem in least bit fatigued or at a loss of voice. "Looks like Nimble Nimbus has lost some on the turn!" The voice continued, echoing out over grounds and stands alike. "Her jockey seems to be struggling to keep her tight onto the rail; you can see her slipping back—"

"Look at that, Ladies and Gentlemen. Look at that!" As she called out suddenly to capture the attention of any whose may have strayed in the last few seconds, Jembza Rowan stepped to the edge of her announcing box, hand gripping hard on the rail as she leaned in the direction of her focus. "Snorting Hat has edged into that prime inside position and is bounding forward. What a stride! Loki's Legacy there managing to keep ahead of Phoenix Flare. Say what you will about this race, but there's a real rivalry brewing between those two, and BOTH of them are giving quite the performance as they take a page out of Snorting Hat's lead, wedging in against the rail right behind him. Nimble Nimbus just can't quite overcome the loss of the inside advantage."

As the horses reached the halfway mark, the large billboard hanging high above the announcer's box updated at the hands several assisting attendants pointing their wands to modify the colouration and writing upon its surface. The rankings of the Granians shuffled and adjusted to reflect their new positions, often times finding that their ranks would then change again only seconds later as their racing counterparts battled with sweat and snorts to gain the lead on their competitors.

At the same time, hooves thundered against the packed earth, kicking up puffs of dust and dirt in their wake wherever they passed by. Wings fluttered and shook, the great magical beasts having to employ every ounce of control and discipline not to simply take off with swooping beats of their powerful appendages to leave the ground and take to the skies. Again, students would see numerous advertisements flashing past, briefly obscured by the racing winged horses before appearing once again. One of the flashier ones depicted the profile of a regal face as it transformed itself with the effects of various physical potions. And in elegant typography, the words "THE VALERIAN CONSORTIUM", bringing attention to the Renowned Potioneers of the Valerian pureblood family.

"Some of you might be wondering," Jembza cut in, acknowledging this very phenomenon, "why winged horses are being forced to keep to the ground. The fact is, they are put through a variety of racing formats throughout their careers, but we always start them off on the ground. In the same way that you must walk before you can run, these youngster must learn to run before they can fly! Elevation adds a whole new dimension to the racing sphere—quite literally! And with it, a number of dangers. The Statute of Secrecy is more difficult to uphold, vision of horse and rider is more obscured, there are infinitely more chances of accidental collision and injury... I am sure you get the picture. But if you ever have the chance to watch a championship race of veteran Granians in flight, ooooh you simply MUST attend. It is a sight like none other!"

"But getting back on track—" She trailed off to take a moment to chuckle at her own joke. "This is a tight race, folks, and you're not going to want to miss a second as the five in the front battle it out for first place. That said, let's not forget our stragglers! Vitamixin' It Up has managed to gain some ground and even pass Bluebottle to take a healthy position in sixth. While Avada Run Fasta seems to have found his stride. Look at that surge from the back of the pack! Bluebottle Betsy isn't going to make it easy for him, but he's well on his way to overtaking her! Can he keep it up?"

"They're coming into the final furlong now, folks, and this is where memories are made! The homestretch is out ahead of them, and—yes—you can see how the riders are starting to give them their heads, loosening up on the reins to let these youngsters run wild." And indeed, just like Jembza Rowan was suggesting, heads were stretching forward with their newfound freedom, strides were lengthening, and the snorting of exertion reached new levels. "No more containment for them, no sir! Permission is being given for them to give it their all in this last leg of the race. Whatever energy they still have left, you're going to see it expended!"

"Snorting Hat trying to keep the lead, settling a blistering pace up front." As the pack of racing Granians hammered down the final stretch, it was the grullo gelding in his shining ivory tacked glory out in front, but not by much. "Loki's Legacy is barely a dozen strides behind him, though appears to be losing ground. In fact, he'd better watch out! Phoenix Flare is gaining ground on the inside and closing in fast. We're about to be seeing the final result of this little rivalry." Sure enough, the rose bay mare positioned herself neck and neck with Loki's Legacy only moments later, the two battling it out for second place as they neared the finish line.

"Oh but don't sleep just yet! Blink and you might miss it. Nimble Nimbus seems to have decided she'd not about to lose that lead she had after the half." Just as Jembza was suggesting, the white-gray mare almost seemed to be floating with how swiftly her hooves were pounding down the track, graceful with every stride as she gave every ounce of effort asked upon her by her rider. "She's closing in on the leaders!" For a few seconds, the announcer almost seemed to forget that the other six horses even existed, so keenly attuned was she on the four leaders of the race. "She has surpassed Loki's Legacy!" came the announcement a moment later. "Now Phoenix Flare as well!" she added after a few seconds. "Will this be the upset of the season? She had started out safely towards the middle at the start, then broke ahead a bit too early. I thought that had been the end of it for her, but here she is defying the odds."

"50 meters from the finish line." Perhaps some might have thought it a bit premature for the announcer to sound so excited about the possibility of this particular mare clinching a win. "40 meters from the finish line." But there were no other contestants making the same sort of gains as her in the final stretch, and with every passing moment, it was becoming increasingly clear that the race was coming down to Snorting Hat and Nimble Nimbus. "Thirty meters from the finish line. Hold onto your hats, my dear. This could be quite the toss up! Twenty meters from the finish!" The former's rider wasn't blind to the encroaching competition, however, and resurged own efforts to encourage their steed forward. "Oh don't start counting your winning galleons just yet, Snorting Hat isn't going to let his position go so easily! Ten meters from the finish!"

A puff of smoke and a multitude of sparks charms in various colours would mark the conclusion of the race for the frontrunners, Jembza Rowan shouting over the din, "SNORTING HAT HAS DONE IT, HE HAS WON THE RACE!" In fact, so impressive was his final desperate sprint that Nimble Nimbus had fallen quite a few strides behind him once all was said and done. Still, it would only be a second or two after the initial fanfare before Jembza's voice announced, "NIMBLE NIMBUS SECURES SECOND PLACE."

Hot on their heels were Phoenix Flare and Loki's Legacy, both lathered with white sweat, their snorts heralding their finish. Theirs had been a battle between themselves from start to finish. "PHOENIX FLARE COMES IN THIRD WITH LOKI'S LEGACY A CLOSE FOURTH!" Then shortly after, "A tragic day for Firebolt Fury. Second place was briefly in their grasp, but not for long. Still, they were able to keep a consistent pace after falling back, and FIFTH PLACE IS THEIRS." The dust and smoke had a chance to clear over the moments that followed, Jembza even going so far as to take a sip of water in the break between the frontrunners and the rest of the still racing Granians. "VITAMIXIN' IT UP FINISHES SOLIDLY IN SIXTH," the announcements continued as the final horses began to cross the threshold to the race's conclusion. "FOLLOWED BY AVADA RUN FASTA, and finally BLUEBOTTLE BETSY BRINGING IN THE REAR."

"And that's it, that's all, everyone, the race is over!" At this point, students would likely have to strain over the roar of the cheers and applause and general excited conversation of those surrounding them as they regaled the race and discussed its progression. Moreover, already some were heading towards the betting tent hoping to get a jump on collecting their winnings before the crowd could coalesce too densely. "Congratulations to our winners, and a heart-felt thank you to all of the Granian horses and their riders who came all this way to partake in this most exciting race today.

"For those who feel so inclined, you will have an opportunity to briefly relay your congratulations in person in the winner's circle. Not just yet though!" Jembza was quick to add, spying a few eager beavers who were already headed to await the winners. "The horses will need some time to calm down, cool off, and catch their breaths before their ready for their close-ups!" She flashed a charming grin and a wink at nobody in particular. "But rest assured, they will be happy to make your acquaintances soon enough."

As the horses peeled out of their galloping strides and veered off to their own sections of the track to start their cooldown routines, one of the aides up on the announcing stage stepped forward with another stack of papers, handing one of them over to Miss Rowan. "Now, while I still have some of your attention..." Jembza Rowan's voice was practically deflated compared to the excitement bounding from it in the final moments of the race. Nevertheless, she put on a beaming smile and circled the elevated stage. "We extend our warmest thanks, once again, to our sponsors and those who made this event possible! Allow me a moment to highlight a few such contributers before you all disperse...

"The Supporting Shadow Hiring Agency is here to help you—or perhaps your families. Whether you're an employer looking for employees, an employee looking for an employer, or a business looking for more clients, they can help connect you with the kind of people you're looking for! As it happens, they are also looking for agents for themselves to help with the search for potential talents and clients."

"Among our perhaps more renowned, yet less talked about financiers, may be that of the Pass family. Far-reaching is their holding company, with wide-spread interest and investment across countless other businesses. Now, I hear what you're saying. What does a holding company have to do with me? Yes, it's true, it isn't typically the sort of thing you hear being advertised. HOWEVER, don't knock their usefulness when it comes to the provisioning of employment opportunities! So pay attention those of you who will be graduating soon! Accountants, Financiers, Investors, Proprietors, Translators, Receptionists, Personal Aides, Lawyers...all of these play a part in the functioning of the company's day to day. So if you're looking for something a bit more mundane, or—" Here she dropped her voice to a stage whisper. "—if perhaps casting and magic were never quite your strong suit, don't worry I won't tell—" She grinned and cast another directionless wink. "—perhaps it would be worth a little investigating!"
Anyone interested in such a roleplay or connection opportunity should direct their interest to @Prat Pass
"Next up..." She exchanged the piece of paper from which she had just been reading for another. "Should you ever find yourself traveling—or perhaps for some of you, it will be returning home—to Chile and the surrounding areas, I encourage you to stop by the Vargas family estate! Making a living by buying and selling exotic goods such as rare goblin crafted armor and other goods, the Vargas family would be happy to have new clients and supply you with what you didn't even know you wanted until now."
Anyone interested in such a roleplay or connection opportunity should direct their interest to @Ariam Vargas
"And finally, before you disappear back to school, don't forget to take a stop through Diagon Alley one last time on your way to King's Cross Station and pay a visit to Leone's Warding Wonders! Luck charms, talismans, amulets, and various enchanted jewelry are only a few coins away from being yours. Whether it's a bold statement to get yourself seen, or doing yourself a kindness with a bit of favourable assistance on your exams, they have something for everyone."
Anyone interested in RP interactive opportunities with this shop Proprietor should reach out to @Odette Leone
"Well, I suppose now there is nothing else to do but to bid you all a most wonderful rest of your day. I hope you were able to enjoy the race, and be sure to enjoy the festivities. The horses will be in the winning circle shortly, feel free to interact with them at your leisure. There is no rush, of course, as the stadium will be thusly set up and open for the rest of the afternoon for your socializing pleasure. But when you do decide to depart, don't forget to claim your betting wins on your way out!" With that, Jembza Rowan tapped her throat with her wand, and her voice would be heard sonorously over the stadium no more. The race had concluded, the top three winning Granian horses were arriving in the winner's circle to accept their prizes and greet the eager students, and the rest of the afternoon would be spent enjoying the refreshments and peer interactions.

I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me.

Harvey was having a whale of a time just people watching. The boy could have spent the rest of the day watching the fashion walk by. The colors were popping and most of the people looked incredible in their outfits. There were some there that would not make the cut in his rather narrow opinion, but he didn't care to know the riff riff anyway. No, he was here to meet those he aspired to be. Harvey and his family had the wealth, but the boy craved status. What he wouldn't give to have been born into such regal family lines. Instead he was just some bastard half-breed with a surname that meant nothing. All in due time though, all in due time...

A pop of pink caught his eye and soon enough they were feasting on a magnificent looking witch around his age. She herself was pretty enough, but what really drew him in was her attire. Already sitting with perfect posture, Harvey somehow managed to sit even straighter as she drew near. This was the exact type of person he was looking to socialize with. He yearned to touch the fabric of her dress, but that was a no no, not without proper introduction anyway. While his grandfather had spared no expense making sure that Harvey was a perfect gentlemen, the old goblin had done nothing to educate the boy on fashion. It was his own deign that he wore today and he couldn't wait to do it again. The fashion bug had bit him hard and wouldn't he love to dress the model that was fast approaching.

Oh! She was actually approaching him! Harvey set down the food a drink at the table and met her with a practiced, but charming smile. There was an elegance about her that immediately drew him in, not to mention the height on her. What a perfect specimen! Harvey stood up from his seated position, not that it did much to make up the height difference, but he looked up to her as she complimented his hat. "Oh my, you like it?" His tone was buttery sweet. A skilled tone meant to warm up those he used it on, yet there was a bit of genuineness to it as well. A beautiful girl like her enjoyed his design? He could have melted. "It's a design of my own. Rurnak and Sons fashioned it for me along with the suit. Goblin tailors." Harvey explained the odd sounding name. "Harvey Barrows. A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I must say that you look rather stunning. A dream from head to toe. Who are you wearing, if I may ask?" If Livia would allow it he would take her hand gently in his and offer a formal kiss.

The anxiety that had been building up in Malcolm's chest about how people might react to him slowly eroded away as Evelynn greeted him with genuine kindness instead of the ridicule he'd half been expecting. For a moment, he found himself completely at a loss for words. The umbrella charm shielding him from the drizzle and the warm air spell drying him and his chair off only made his thoughts jumble further. He wasn't used to people being able to help him without making him feel like a burden while also not hovering obnoxiously while they fussed over him like his Mam and Da sometimes tended to. But Evelynn had managed to thread that needle and just make him feel... welcome.

In all honesty, those simple actions and kind words had managed to do more magic than she likely realized, turning a day he'd been dreading into something a little bit less daunting, and a lot more manageable, especially once she mentioned the special section set aside for wheelchair users.

Malcolm carefully tucked the prize tickets and confirmation slip into his pocket as the language center of his brain tried to find its footing. Eventually, he offered Evelynn a shy, grateful smile and a nod of his head that was apparently enough of a jolt to make the bowtruckle pin canter precariously on his hat's ribbon as if the pewter horse it found itself astride was also anxiously awaiting the chance to run in this race alongside its flesh and blood brethren.

"Thanks fer that, Miss. Ya didn’t have to go outta yer way like that, but... it means more than ya know." He said, his voice quiet. He still didn't have the words to express the depths of his gratitude for an interaction he was sure she'd barely even recall by the time school came around, but that simple thank you would have to do. He'd just have to try and pay her back someday, instead, he decided.

He spared a glance toward the long line behind him and shifted his chair gently to the side. "Hope ya get time to enjoy the race yerself once this crowd dies down, by the way. And I'm lookin' forward to seein' ya at Hogwarts." He said to her over his shoulder as he started navigating towards the refreshments stand.

By the time he made his way past the tent she'd mentioned with the blue standard, and the pamphlet distributing witch in green, he had managed to acquire a nice steaming cup of tea and a napkin with a couple cucumber sandwich wedges to snack on. It wasn't the hearty meals he was used to back home, but tastier than he'd thought they'd be.

He found his surprise growing as he found himself getting more excited for the event as the start of the race drew closer. She'd been right about the seats, too. They really did offer a great view of the track and he moved his chair forward, amazed that he was actually looking forward to the derby rather than just being here out of obligation. And when the race actually got going, and Phoenix Flare managed to find her way to the front of the pack, he let out a delighted laugh, whispering, "C'mon girl, ya got this... just keep it up..."

The older girls kindness at the entrance was unexpected, but gratefully received. Although she didn't understand what she had said, the hot-air charm that she had cast was universally appreciated. Once again she was left to marvel at just how beautiful magic could be, even when used for the most mundane of things. When she officially started her schooling at Mahoutokoro after the summer she would pay special attention to even the spells that didn't immediately seem to have a use. A wide array of spells was helpful, but creative usage would be a suitable substitute while she learned. She was even more impressed when the red-headed witch replied to her in Japanese. Perhaps there were decent people at this camp after all. It was unfortunate that she had been unlucky with the allocation of them to her tent. It wouldn't do to dwell on misfortune at such a beautiful event though (even if the weather didn't match it).

Returning her thoughts to the present, she focused back on her conversation with the boy. "My name is Sayaka Ito. It's nice to meet you" she said "I would appreciate it if you were able to translate my bet for me". The number of times she had regretted her one spoken language this camp must now number in the thousands. If you had to look for an upside to it, she supposed you could say that it was a decent conversation starter. It was also a barrier to conversation, unless of course, you were a fan of charades. She was most definitely not. It was extremely hard to retain a polite, uninterested smile, when you were trying to communicate via desperate waving. And it wasn't even a foolproof method, with plenty of potential for embarrassing misunderstandings.

Enough musing on the disadvantages of being monolingual though, she had a bet to place. She would need to pick her lucky Granium that would hopefully achieve victory, or at the very least a decent showing. Wether the horse lost or not didn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. The whole betting business was mostly for show, to provide a conversation starter for attendees.

Apart from spending time with Agata, Bea hadn't spent time amongst other people that much. She'd played her unofficial quidditch match against Mahou but that was it. The young Scottish girl had really sequestered herself up in her tent with Agata, which in all honesty had been a little surprising. The two girls had only met at the start of the Summer break through an invitation from their mutual extended family, Dusana. She'd wanted to get to know the girls more, and had offered for them to stay over the month of July before Summer camp. Beatrice hadn't been so sure at first. She'd pestered her mother about the reasoning behind the invitation but no ill intent could be found. And so Beatrice had gone to London for the month. She'd , read books with Mabel, baked with Agata, gardened with Dusana. It had been a month of frenzy, and kindness, and love. After the turbulent years she'd had, Beatrice hadn't expected to find family somewhere else other than her Ma and sister. But she had. And for that she was grateful.

When the mention of the theme of Camp had come up, Dusana had taken the girls shopping through the busy streets of both muggle and wizard London. Their tastes wildly differed, but in the end, Beatrice had been happy with her purchases. She'd bought jewels, and gems. Ribbons and lace. Flowers locked in blooming stasis. Everything she needed to decorate a hat. Dusana had gifted her a matching yellow dress to wear with that hat. It was made of cotton, with lace sleeves and neckline. A beautiful dark yellow bow sat at the center of the chest. It was one of Beatrice's favourite pieces, more-so because Dusana had gifted it to her. She'd stayed up all night for the week before the fair working on her hat. In the end, it turned out quite alright. A wide brimmed straw hat sat atop the chest of drawers in her room. It was adorned with sunflowers and other small, pale yellow flowers. Small twigs and white baby's breath flowers decorated the sides as well. The brim was what sold it, Beatrice thought. Gold sparkling jeweled pins resembling honeycomb adorned the brim on the inside of her hat, ending with delicate chains. On those chains rested either more honeycomb jewels, or bees. Bright, luminous sparkling honeybees of all sizes. They had been the most delicate thing to buy, and the most precious.

On the day of the derby, Bea had excitedly dressed, much to the annoyance of Agata. Beatrice could tell the other girl was just as excited but knew she wouldn't show it. She'd primped and preened, and when both girls were ready they headed off to the horse race. Straight away, Bea dragged Agata over towards the betting booth, and placed a bet. "I'd like to place a bet on Loki's Legacy, please." Job done, she smiled at Evelynn and went to turn away. She knew of the older girl through various mutual people, and had played with her in the unofficial quidditch match days prior. But, all in all, she didn't fully know her that well. She waved at Evelynn as a thank you, and turned back to the crowd, Agata surely with her.

Unfazed by her accusation of inducing phobias, Pericles slid a sidelong smile Eve's way, reaching back and up to pat his hat's thorax. It wiggled its ceramic fangs in an absentminded reaction. "It could serve to desensitize them. You know," glass waved towards the racetrack, "a bit like horses. They're bound to see scarier things at school than this sorry hat." Peri inquired about missing Aly, uttered a disappointed "Oh" on hearing he had, but made no move to follow after. Much like the granians were getting ready to do, Eve's implications sailed clean over his head. Manu he hardly knew, so Pear resolved to check in on Aly later, that is, until Eve broke the pause by insisting the two would "enjoy his company". Pear hesitated mid-count, glancing up from an abacus. His empty expression and questioning stare suggested he was trying get the hint, whatever it was. Was she implying he was butting in? That couldn't be it. She hadn't minded when he first arrived at the booth. Was Aly in trouble? Was Manu bothering her? Convinced Eve was speaking the same strange subliminal language as himself, Peri wavered over whether or not to go when his family name blared across the London Quidditch Pitch.

The ensuing attempt at feigning ignorance hardly held up. "You did not know that he had taken out an advertisement." At that, the bird's prosthetic zipped sideways in its socket, scanning her expression to tell whether the thought was divined from his mind or actions. Evidently, he'd given himself away. "I didn't." Omission seemed to be a pet peeve of Pear's, as much as the Gemini withheld more than his fair share. With Eve, at least, he had learned to open up more often. The volume of his voice dropped as Pericles went on to confide, "He should have told me, now I'm wondering why he didn't. Either he knew I'd say no or- I imagine- it was his idea of petty revenge. He wanted me to show face at the unveiling of our company's new Courier crew, but it would have meant skipping summer. Our last summer. When I heard you and Dee might be made organizers, I told him I was already engaged." It had been hard-wired into the heir to suspect treachery, even- if not especially- from dear old dad. Isaac was known to harbor grudges and wage silent wars. In the absence of their household's peacekeeper, the two seemed to be stuck in a psychological swordfight. "Not that I only came along to avoid some dry exposé. I was looking forward to this, honest." Pear managed a thin smile before the clacking of the abacus resumed. "If it's all the same to you, I'll stay and help here for awhile." Whatever or whoever he'd been avoiding, at least Eve could deduce it wasn't her.

The riotous false start snagged his attention. As the granians were reined back into their stalls, Pericles continued to tally, one eye on his work while the prosthetic fixed itself on the track. Its mechanical pupil swelled and shrank like a shuttered camera. Vitamixin' was stalling, leaving him to hope Jembza Rowan's assessment was true, and that the steed was simply conserving energy for the final stretch.

The many advantages of the English language had been brought to light the first time Hikari had visited Hogwarts, namely, for the Spring Ball. Admittedly, that trip had been nothing short of eventful. Dark memories aside, every one of his interactions there had been in English.

That left him to wonder why people outside the United States and Europe didn't put more importance on knowing the language. It was supposed to be one of the more widely spoken languages in the world. Then again, so we're plenty of others. Learning any language couldn't be a very easy feat. Hikari would know, and he had been taught English parallel to Japanese. Learning a new language after being fluent in one, would be more difficult in his opinion.

Atleast having to learn the language had not left him in a situation similar to this girl, having to ask for someone to act like a translator. If Hikari had to guess, it wasn't very convenient.

His father had helped him out with English growing up. Not that deep conversations had ever been his strong suit. But you didn't need deep conversations to be able to speak a language proficiently.

Hikari glanced at the girl— Sayaka Ito— and briefly wondered if he should introduce himself too. It only seemed polite, considering she had introduced herself first.

"Nice to meet you too. My name is Hikari Fujimoto." He nodded at the girl and motioned towards the betting table, "Who would you like to place your bet on?"

Out of the corner of his eye, Hikari noted the fact that the crowd around the betting table was gradually increasing. They needed to move quickly. Hikari wanted to find a decent place to stand in before the race started, not too close, but from where he could get a decent view of the horses. He hated being late.
