Languages
Puck speaks fluent English, with an accent that tends to flit between an Irish and Scottish lilt. Growing up their mother enrolled them in language classes for both Scottish Gaelic and Gaeilge (Irish) because she wanted them to have that knowledge and connection to their nationality. They're better with Irish but are relatively fluent in both, though will get words mixed up between them. They also know fluent BSL (British Sign Language), as their brother was deaf.
Physical Description
Just on average height for his age, Puck is a slender, but muscled, young man, having participated in the muggle sports of rock climbing, parkour, and circus from a young age. He has pale, freckled, skin, curly, strawberry-blonde hair, and grey-blue eyes with a golden-brown ring around the pupil (central heterochromia). His hair falls just below his collarbones, and you’ll often see him with it tied in a low pony-tail, or what could be described as a ‘man-bun’. He takes to doodling on his skin when bored, and is generally found wearing black cargo pants and a warm hoodie (or singlet hoodie if it’s warmer), underneath which you might find one of the many band or franchise shirts he owns, having been raised on muggle media by his mother. He has lower lobe piercings in both ears, and has taken to wearing a fake septum piercing in order to try and convince his mother to let him get an actual one.

Puck has a scar on his left cheek, from his jawbone up to the cheekbone (This doesn't show in all images because not all picrews have the option for it). This was gained after he fell whilst rock climbing when he was nine. He has a myriad of other, smaller scars from cuts and scrapes over his arms, legs, knees, and hands, gained from a combination of many activities, and encounters with birds and stray animals over the years. He has one scar which stretches from midway down the back of his forearm to his elbow, which if questioned about, he will say was from falling a meter and a half down a cliff face while climbing, but was actually because he tripped down the stairs. Being raised only by his muggle mother, he did not have access to magical remedies, and when introduced to the magical world and offered to have them healed declined, both because magic was new to him at the time, and as they’d just become a part of who he was. As they, by that time, had no negative impact on his life and wellbeing, his mother left the decision up to him.

The Chaos of The Brain
Puck was born with Tourette’s Syndrome, a neurological disorder which causes tics – uncontrollable and repetitive movements, sounds, words, and phrases – which presented around the age of eight. It's mild, and after coming to terms with it and understanding the condition more, it does not often impact him in a negative way, though it did not always help with making friends. If the magical world had managed to create a cure for the condition, Puck would decline as after living with it for over three years, he views it as a part of who he is. Also due to it being a complex neurological condition that muggle medicine cannot even explain the cause of, his mother is hesitant to have wizards poking around his brain in case they affect his capabilities or motor functions.

Wand Description
Puck’s wand is stiff, 20.2 cm, made of cherry wood and unicorn hair. Pale, whitish-brown, with an intricately carved handle it was the sixth one they tried, and with a small star carved into the base of the handle, it’s perfect.

Reducio
Cherry Wood
Cherry is a rarely used wood that makes for a wand of strange power, most highly prized by the wizarding students of the school of Mahoutokoro in Japan, where cherry wand owners enjoyed special prestige. The Western wand-purchaser should dispel from their minds any notion that the pink blossom of the living tree made for a frivolous or merely ornamental wand, for cherry wood often makes a wand that possesses truly lethal power, whatever the core.

Unicorn Hair Core
Wands with Unicorn Hair cores produce the most consistent magic, are the least subject to fluctuations and blockages, are the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts, and are the most faithful of wands.

Stiff
A stiff wand typically chooses a user who is equally unwavering in their convictions, bonds, and principles, who will not cede to another’s ideas without consideration and who upholds their ideals staunchly. A stiff wand often indicates a stubborn user, one who is particularly difficult to sway or influence. Whilst a ‘stiff’ wand might have negative connotations, it can also mean that the bonded wizard has a strong sense of self and unwavering commitment, and is associated with individuals who are confident and intelligent. Background Overview
Reducio
Residence
Puck was born in Westport, Ireland, but raised in Perth, Scotland. The country of his mother’s birth, and the city she was schooled in, Sarah Maudley returned to Perth after leaving Puck’s father. Sarah also owned a small property in Morar, having been left the house and its small parcel of land by her parents when they died. Puck spent most of his holidays living there, and then moved permanently in Late October, 2023.

A Brief History
Puck was born to a wizard and a muggle mother by the name of Sarah Maudley. Sarah has never spoken of Puck's father to him, but over the years he has gathered that his father had never told his mother of his magical lineage or abilities, and due to this she had left him when Puck was three after he threatened to Obliviate her after accidentally revealing the magical world. Having grown up without a father didn't particularly impact Puck as his mother cared greatly for him and gave him as much love, attention, and care as she could. He has a distrust of older male figures and male authority figures as a result of this though.

Being a muggle, Sarah raised Puck in the muggle world, sending him to a muggle school from kindy through to year six, and raising him on muggle customs, culture, and foods. She did not hide the magical world from him, explaining what his occurrences of accidental magic were, and apologising she could not provide him with further information, but ensuring he knew that his father had told her of the existence of a school he would be offered to attend should he demonstrate magical ability and wish to attend.

His magic, mixed with his intense curiosity and hyperactivity meant that he found it hard to fit in, often feeling left out and lonely. He finds it hard to make friends, sometimes feeling like he's too much for those around him do to his overly inquisitive, mischievous, and hyperactive nature, or being resented for high performance both academically and athletically. Because of this he sometimes feels lonely, left out, or like he does not belong, and endeavours to entertain himself in order to cheer himself up (this can include reading, climbing, swimming, writing, listening to music, and dancing).

First Instance of Magic
When he was four, Puck was swinging on a tree branch overhanging the water of the lake near his ‘holiday’ house when the branch snapped and he fell in. Though it was on the edge of the lake, the water was deep as it was a rocky drop-off, and being four, Puck could not swim and sank. Hearing the splash his mother ran to the edge and dove in, swimming to the bottom in a panic only to find him sitting happily on the stone lake-bed, playing with the loose pebbles around him, quite 'miraculously' breathing perfectly fine. Upon being picked up and returned to the surface he threw a tantrum, not understanding why he was not allowed to play underwater.

After his first instance of magic, Puck's mother kept a detailed record of all instances and possible instances of magic surrounding him. Times when she'd try and feed him food he didn't want and suddenly the plate held chocolates and apple in place of chicken and peas. When she'd been frustratedly arguing with a landlord on the phone and suddenly it had burst into flowers and she'd turned to find Puck sitting morosely on the stairs. When he'd come downstairs in the morning with his hair blue. Times when he'd fall and come away miraculously uninjured (though as he gained more confidence in both his abilities to climb, and his abilities to fall safely, those times he did take a tumble, his magic no longer softened the fall). When his tics presented, these were times when they would involve magic. These were few and far between, but did occur, including accidentally conjuring glitter glitter, sneezing a small gust of wind, and changing his water into apple juice (something he'd done as a child quite often when upset).

The Theatrical Release
Mix together:
A bit of weird, a pinch of wacky, a handful of smarts, about three teaspoons of insane, a heaping of self-doubt, a fair dash of mischief, and a flavouring of doubt in the governmental system…
...and out of your cauldron will rise Puck. A very active, very curious person, he enjoys running, climbing, swimming and exploring. He enjoys learning, but more than that enjoys finding and knowing random, obscure, weird and wonderful facts to surprise/unsettle people with. He enjoys finding ways to climb to the highest point within reach as well as interacting with and befriending wild animals around his home.

He often has trouble making friends, wary that he’ll be too much for them or too different to fit in, and instead will often spend free time alone outdoors, reading, writing, or exploring, often looking for adventure, animals, or cool things to do. If he’s stressed or overwhelmed his go-to is physical activity. Running, swimming, climbing, general overexertion tends to be how they deal with emotions.

To compensate for his lack of what others call 'people skills', Puck will - when given the opportunity - often try to show off in an effort to impress others in the hope they’ll think he’s cool and will want to be friends. This method of friendship has earned him the contradicting titles of both teacher’s pet and insane daredevil, as well as a broken arm…
The Director’s Cut
Reducio
Puck is, at a glance, an overly extraverted person. Often showing off, louder than is generally necessary, and incredibly talkative (especially when people would rather he’d just shush), he can come across as annoying, and often A Lot. However, internally, Puck pushes to try and gain attention, in the hope that someone will find something he does or says cool and will want to - just possibly - be friends. Once you actually get to know him, Puck’s curious, inquisitive, and yes he loves to talk about his interests, but prefers talking with people, especially when they share those interests, or are genuinely intrigued by what he’s saying, and he loves just as much listening to others talk about their own interests. He’s more introverted than he makes himself out to be, and enjoys his solitude, or just sitting in silence together, just as much as he’d enjoy climbing trees or buildings or maybe some late-night exploring.

Puck's a bit of a wildcard, some days he’ll be begging you to go and explore with him, others he’ll look for any reason just to get some time alone. He loves wandering outdoors, especially through forests or near water, or around abandoned infrastructure. If everything ever gets too much, you can guarantee he’ll be sitting outside on a roof somewhere, or in a tree, reading, or listening to music, or be cradling his newest animal-find. If you’ve gone to find him he might be talking to the stars, or writing letters which he’ll fold up to place carefully in his pocket, and store safely in an old tin under his bed when he has the chance.

He’s easily bored, and when left with nothing to do will generally go climb as high as he can up the nearest tree and then maybe hang upside down. He could also decide to pull out a slackline for some fun, or climb up a building, or do any number of crazy things depending on the level of boredom. Often he’ll just start ranting if left with no other option, and before long you’ll be well-educated in the histories of various musical genres, an obscure TV show, various famous climbers and performers, or the benefits of Kelp. Also just- the worst jokes. The most meme-ridden, vine-filled, geek-ass jokes. Courtesy of their older brother.

Puck’s also quite the conspiracy and cryptid enthusiast, and will at the most random and inopportune of times, seek to pop into the conversation with his thoughts on Area 51, the Martian invasion, or the Lizard people in control of the government. He’ll argue his point for hours if you disagree, but will if asked at any other time dismiss conspiracies as ‘Desperately bored people trying to find ways to feel special whilst living in their parent’s basement at 32’. He strives to leave everyone in a state of utter confusion as to whether or not he’s being serious, and will likely take great joy in introducing wizards to the world of muggle conspiracy theories.

Puck has a healthy distaste for authority ( for an eleven year old that is). He’ll follow the rules until he sees no point in them, or until he views them as harmful to those around him. If there’s a good reason for the rule to be in place then he’ll follow it (most of the time), but a lack of sound and logical reasoning behind them equals not having to follow them in his mind. He’s not afraid to stand behind his political views (not that he has overly many, being, again, eleven, but still) and believes in educating others about the government and the global political situation. He may be eleven, but he’s not naive, having lost much of his childhood innocence both during the search for his brother, and in his exposure to the media and global news during and following that period.

Puck harbours a lot of fear and sadness, but also strives to experience a lot of joy, finding it in chaos and in laughter and in friendship and the outdoors. He may have a tough time making friends, but once he does he is incredibly loyal and will stick by them no matter what. He’s kind, and caring, and tries to make others feel accepted and safe, and often spends time hanging with friends, but is just as likely to spend four hours hanging out of a tree reading a book or listening to music or drumming on the bark. He’d do anything for his mother, and anything for his friends, even if he annoys the hell out of them from time to time.

Alignment
Chaotic-Lawful Good
Reducio
Follow their own moral code strictly, though it’s prone to change if confronted with new information. They act in a way which they believes best benefits those around them who they deem to be close enough to who they consider the ‘good guys’ to be, or at the very least not immediately and definitively a horrid person. Whilst they adhere to a fluctuating but strict moral code operating within what they view as 'good', it's not necessarily what society might deem the correct/good ethical/moral code. If there's a rule they can't see the point of or that has no logical or reasonable standing, they don't follow it, they're likely to seek out loopholes to achieve their desired outcomes if truly necessary. The 'good' part of their alignment doesn't come from striving to do what they think others believe is the right thing, it comes from their desire to do whatever they can to help others and better the world. The chaotic-lawful if just that whilst they adhere to a moral code, it's not based off of following the rules.

Blue eyes stare back at them from the center of the mirror, curly hair frames their jaw from where the shorter strands have fallen out of their ponytail. They’re sitting high up in an old oak tree, black gloves and combat boots on, an old denim jacket over top of faded band shirt. They’re leaning against an older boy with shaggy, on-the-verge-of-curly, red hair, and turn back to reading a comic book over his shoulder.

The two are laughing, the elder pointing out something that has the two clutching at the branches beside them to keep from falling. The Puck in the mirror is tugged closer into the side of the boy he’s leaning against, the two lean back against the trunk, content in the small glimmers of sun they receive through the leaves, and sign back and forth.

An onlooker would pick the two out as brothers, and if anyone but Puck could see the scene playing out in the glass, they might notice that the elder is wearing a brown letterman-style jacket, covered in patches and embroidery and pins, the same one that the Puck sitting in front of the mirror is wearing, clutching at the small, stylised J on the left hand pocket and leaning forward as though he hoped to fall right through the mirror and into the scene in front of him.

Reducio
When first added, a strand of Pucks hair will turn Polyjuice a dark navy blue, reminiscent of deep water. Flecks of shifting colours and light will shift through the liquid, there one moment and gone the next, a hint at what lies beneath the surface, unknown.

When stirred, the potion will lighten, shifting to a soft lavender, and the faint scent of hot chocolate will permeate the room. At this point it is ultra-thin, and stirring it feels almost like moving through nothing at all.

After this point, when shaken the potion will froth up, fizzing like a shaken soda. The colour will shift, the purple taking on a darker, almost reddish hue, as reds and blacks begin to swirl through the liquid. If stoppered, the potion will threaten to uncork the bottle unless tightly held down, and will eventually settle into a soft, dark lilac, hints of black and red flicking through every now and then, and a touch of silver, shining like stars as the colour fades to a dark blue, giving it the appearance of bottled astronomical twilight, or maybe very early dawn.

When opened after this, a mist-like vapour will rise from the bottle, the scent of smoke and spray-paint diffusing into the room. When drunken, the potion has the taste and texture of hot chocolate, and the drinker will be overcome with an intense longing. As this fades the potion will take on a bitter aftertaste, like too-dark chocolate, and when finished, the faint taste of blood will linger.

I stated trying to code the table but then it got too complicated and there isn't enough page space for it to look nice and I was legitimately ready to start killing so please enjoy this nicely organised table in my google doc instead (dw it doesn't have a link to my OOC identity, it's a google account using Puck's name specifically for this purpose 'cause idk if I'll get eviscerated (metaphorically speaking) by the site auditors if I provide real life info.)
Timeline Pre-Puck

Early Childhood
Reducio
Puck grew up well loved by his mother and father, though his father was growing slightly distant from his family (not that Puck would remember any of this). James was thrilled to have a younger brother and would often take him to the park across the road from their apartment building, play with him, and watch shows and movies with him.
When Puck was three, in late November, his mother left Arthur, and moved back to Perth in Scotland with Puck and James (Again, not that he remembers any of this happening). Their separation occurred in part due to a rift having grown between them as Arthur began to exhibit less-than-nice boyfriend behaviour, but mostly due to the fact that he tried (though obviously failed) to obliviate her upon accidentally performing magic in front of her (not accidental magic, simple dish-washing spell, he simply hadn’t noticed she’d entered the kitchen). After narrowly missing being hit by the spell, Sarah ran and locked herself in James’ room, within which he and Puck were playing.
After half an hour of pacing back and forth, Arthur sighed heavily and sat down, back leaning against the door. He ‘tried’ and failed to apologise, and then gave Sarah a brief explanation of magic and the magical world, telling her that Puck may or may not hold magical talent but that if he did there was a school which would reach out and offer him a place when he was eleven. Then he left.

First Instance of Magic

When he was four, whilst in Morar for the summer holidays, Puck was swinging on a tree branch overhanging the water of the loch near his grandparents house when the branch snapped and he fell in. Though he was on the edge of the loch, the water was deep as it was a rocky drop-off, and being four, Puck could not swim and sank. Having heard the crack of the broken branch and the following splash, Puck’s mother ran to the edge and dove in, swimming to the bottom (about two and a half metres) in a panic only to find him sitting quite happily on the stone loch-bed, playing with the loose pebbles around him, and quite ‘miraculously’ breathing perfectly fine. Upon being picked up and returned to the surface he threw a spectacular tantrum, not understanding why he was not allowed to play in this new-found and quite interesting environment.

After his first instance of magic, Puck's mother kept a detailed record of all instances and possible instances of magic surrounding him. Pre-Hogwarts (late childhood/pre-teens)
Reducio
Growing up, Puck’s magic, mixed with his intense curiosity and hyperactivity meant that he found it hard to fit in, often feeling left out and lonely. He found it hard to make friends, sometimes feeling like he was too much for those around him due to his overly inquisitive, mischievous, and hyperactive nature, or being resented for high performance both academically and athletically. Because of this he often felt lonely, left out, or like he didn’t belong, and endeavoured to entertain himself in order to cheer himself up (this could include reading, climbing, swimming, writing, listening to music, and dancing). When he turned five, his mother enrolled him in parkour and rock climbing classes, and then at Finley’s insistence, Circus as well. He found them to be a reprieve, and would often find himself applying his newfound skills to climbing trees when they’d go camping in national parks. Both he and James attended public schools, rather than the private school his mother went to and taught at. Growing up, Sarah also enrolled Puck in classes to learn Scottish Gaelic and Gaeilge (Irish), because she wanted him to have that knowledge and connection to his nationality.
TRANSITION: Puck was born as Thomas Michael Maudley, and went by ‘Tommy’ and then ‘Tom’ for much of their life. Around the age of eight he started to feel like the name he used didn’t feel right, and the way people referred to him didn’t always fit. Talking to his mother about it, he began to use He/They, before realising he often shifted between them. His brother was the one who recommended changing his name and seeing if that helped, and his mother suggested ‘Puck’ on the grounds that he was ‘A mischievous creature who can’t sit still and takes to wandering the outdoors and 1 in the morning trying to give me a heart attack, just like I’d imagine Shakespeare’s charming creation would,’ and two years later, after his brother was declared legally deceased, he picked Sachin as it was a vaguely-translated, pronounceable version of Spock’s first name, James’ favourite character from a show they both loved.

His gender identity has been one of the reasons he’s felt isolated from his peers over the years, and something he’s worried about when thinking about Hogwarts.[/b]
James Briar Maudley went missing on the 14th of October, 2023 (Puck was 10), and was declared dead two months later, on the 15th of December. He was on a week-long, remote camping/climbing holiday with friends, who said that they’d last seen him and another, Mathew ‘Mitch’ Annan, walking down the road to the ‘shops’ (a small roadside store about an hour and a half’s walk away). Both boys were declared missing when they failed to return within three hours and a drive along the road to, and past, the shop failed to find them. Police investigation discovered that there was no record of either James or Mitch on the shop’s CCTV, though they found James’ jacket muddy behind a bush about 15 minutes (walking) from the store. The jacket had traces of blood on it, and though it could not be cross-referenced with James’ (who had nothing in a database), it matched Mitch’s, and was instrumental in the switch from missing to deceased. No further information or leads were found, and the case was closed and declared ‘cold’.

It hit both Puck and his mother hard, and two weeks later Puck was pulled out of school due to a number of occurrences of accidental magic, the most notable of which involved three boys falling from the top of the school-yard flagpole after a bout of magic threw them up when they’d started talking about James.

A year and a bit of therapy has helped both him and his mother come to terms with it, but Puck still refuses to believe his brother is dead and won’t talk about him to anyone. He wears their old climbing communication device on a necklace, and writes letters to James every now and then, which are stored in the Doctor Who tin underneath his bed. He also managed to retrieve James’ jacket from evidence once the case was closed, repairing the few tears, and scrubbing the blood out (there’s still a rather large stain on the inside of the left front panel). He’s caught his mother talking to the stars or into the fire late at night sometimes, but never sticks around to hear what she’s saying, not wanting to intrude.
Puck received his Hogwarts letter on the 2nd of July, 2025.

Mother: Sarah Maudley, an English teacher with a love of Shakespeare and the outdoors. A vast enjoyer of music and rock climbing, which she introduced both her children to. She uses an alteration of She and They pronouns, exposure which likely aided in Puck’s early-ish transition. 27th september, 1981
Father: ???????
Sibling: James Maudley, Puck’s older brother of seven years, adopted by Sarah Maudley when he was two. A nerd by all accounts he introduced Puck to much of the films, tv, music, comics, games, and characters he loves today. Born deaf, James taught Puck BSL with help from their mother, and when climbing, swimming, or participating in other activities with his family or friends, carried a small ‘communicator’ device which would vibrate when a paired device signalled it to allow for his attention to be drawn to others in times of stress, need, or accomplishment (or just so he could be directed towards a hilarious happenstance occurring to his left).2nd, Jan, 2006
