"You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart"
—The Sorting Hat

The Great Hall is a large room with four long tables where students of each House sit during the day and at mealtimes. A majestic enchanted ceiling that mirrors the outside weather is watching over people in the room.

When you just pass the door from the Entrance Hall, Gryffindor table is next to the far side of the Hall. You have to walk past all three other tables to get to sit with the Lions. Maybe you will be able to eat and if you're very lucky you might even catch a glimpse of Nearly Headless Nick.

This is an RPG topic where all students are welcome to post. All RPG rules apply. Word count per post is 200 words, not including quotes, OOC chat or other people's words. Any flood type of message will be deleted and a warning owl is sent.

It was a shaky and miserable (though notably short) walk to the Gryffindor table. Crowded and loud and giddy. Pyce found a free space as quickly as possible and sat down. They weren’t particularly hungry. They didn’t want to even stay here. They wanted to go to wherever their new room was and unpack. Maybe find a library and sit between the shelves until everything felt normal again.

Pyce was so completely sick to their stomach. Their eyes stung and their throat felt tight. Everything was wrong and Pyce did not want to be here. They didn’t know any Gryffindors! Their mom was Slytherin, their aunts were Ravenclaw and another Slytherin! Gryffindor. Why did it have to be Gryffindor? They honestly would have been happier anywhere else. Slytherin or Ravenclaw preferably, but-

Pyce bit their lower lip and squeezed their eyes shut. They tried to focus on their breathing to no avail. They were shivering slightly. It was just too much. Too many people, too much noise, and exactly none of the things that would help. Hecate and Mori were at the Slytherin table. Stella wasn’t even here and-

Pyce coughed. It was better than the sob building up in the back of their throat. Especially when they could feel a few pairs of eyes on them. At least most people were still paying attention to the ceremony.

It was the start of a new school year and Kim was ready to welcome the new brood to Hogwarts. Upon seeing the first new Gryffindor come over to their table, Kim noted the unhappy look on @Pyce Rotanski's face. Quite familiar. He'd been like that his first year, feeling guilty he hadn't been able to make it into his father's House. But Kim had overcome this over the years he'd spent there and although he wasn't ecstatic over Gryffindor, he'd come to accept it over time. Red and gold weren't bad colors either, even though he preferred black and blue. Kim heard the boy cough and glanced over at him. He wasn't the greatest at starting up conversations with strangers. He tended to avoid speaking at all if possible. But Pyce looked upset and he wanted to help soothe him.

Somehow. Kibō was coiled around Kim's upper arm and left shoulder as he stared down at the new boy nearby them. "Curiousssss..." Kibō hissed in Parseltongue to him, staring at Pyce from his position. Kim looked down at the serpent nodding, although he didn't say anything in response. Doing so would be admitting that he was a Parselmouth, something his parents had told him to keep secret at all costs, unless someone else revealed themselves to be one too. Kim reached out to take some food onto his plate, selecting some roasted chicken and boiled potatoes, along with some candied carrots. "Would you pass the soft rolls?" He asked Pyce, finding a way to start a conversation without it being weird. Kim also didn't like small talk. It was very so pointless to him.

He found it stupid because all it was was talking about things you weren't actually interested in but doing it because it was the polite thing to do. At least the way he did it was honest.

"Curiousssss..." Pyce heard hissed from somewhere nearby. They shrunk in on themself just a bit more. They had really hoped they hadn't made too much of a spectacle. But clearly- Pyce froze completely. That- wasn't English. In fact, that wasn't a human language at all. Not really. Honestly, they would have questioned it less if they weren't sitting at a feast. If Pyce had known pets were allowed to dine with them, they would have brought Horrorcow. She would have been great company. She was probably waiting for them wherever their new dorm would be.

Just as Pyce was about to look up, to find the snake they had so clearly heard, another voice, this one in English, spoke up.

"Would you pass the soft rolls?" Pyce shakily looked up and saw an older Gryffindor. He had a snake coiled around his left arm. An Emerald Gazer. Pyce liked Emerald Gazers. Just seeing it was a bit grounding. Even if Pyce didn't know this snake, it was a familiar looking snake.

Pyce realized they had been staring and quickly searched for the rolls. Right in front of them. Ah. Made sense. Pyce took a single roll for themself before they passed the plate off to the other student.

"Um, h-here." Pyce handed over the rolls. And then, after a beat, "I like your snake. What's their name?" Their voice was just a bit squeaky, just a bit tight. They probably shouldn't have said anything at all, but honestly, if Pyce could just focus on the snake, have just one normal conversation, they could probably pull themself together until the end of the feast.

Sinclair finds her place and sits down at the table quietly with an unreadable expression. She's back again in her second home, yet, she feels oddly alone more than ever. Despite having made loose plans to participate in the Spring ball, she did not. She also seems to have lost contact with the two people she somewhat considered friends. And to top it all off, her family had experienced two losses- her aunt and uncle. Car crash. And she felt nothing about it.
It was such a mundane way to die.
While one may think her summer wasn't terribly world-ending, the fact that she felt a lingering apathy towards all this made things worse. I should be feeling something.
She looks at the table in front of her with a neutral expression, before taking some chicken and mashed potatoes into her plate. Nearby she heard the hissing of a familiar snake, the snake's owner Aoki, and some new Gryffindor blood. Sinclair only took a mental note, recalling having met Aoki at the golden explorer's club- only it was more her turning her back and leaving when she realised there were too many people.
While she is aware of her surroundings, she simply finds herself unable to care, and so keeps to herself and eats her chicken in silence. It's been a long day, but least her appetite is still here. She plans it out in her head: she'll have her meal, listen to the headmaster's announcements, and leave to be somewhere less exciting.

Amora is looking around, her eyes wide. Her parents told her how magnificent and beautiful Hogwarts was. She hesitates, looking towards the Hufflepuffs table, her dad’s old house before walking towards the Gryffindor table. All the eyes of the Gryffindor table turn towards her and she shifts uncomfortably. She hurries over and takes the closest unavailable seat… right next to the student with a pet snake. ‘Oh, that’s fun…’ she thinks to her self as she shifts slightly away. “Cool snake. Hey Pyce.”
It feels weird for Amora to talk to someone who isn’t her sister. She feels alone even if she is surrounded by hundreds of others. She looks down and loads her plate with a little of everything. She hasn’t eaten most of the day, spending most of her time in the library studying potions, her weakest class. She opens her mouth to ask the student next to her with the snake a question about what to expect in her classes but closes it, not wanting to annoy him and start off on the wrong foot. She pushes her food around on her plate, worrying about if she’ll do fine in her classes and school without her sister to help her.

A year has passed. A year since Hana's sorting ceremony has passed. She remembers the time when she thought she's going to get sorted in Slytherin, like her father and brother, but well, she's here, a second year Gryffindor. Last year, she met quite a few friends, mostly just trying to survive school, attending classes and doing homework like a good student. This year, she hopes it'll be more fun.

Entering the familiar Great Hall, she found a spot at the Gryffindor table and plopped down. Boring Hana thinks to herself, the sorting ceremony was quite boring if you are not the one who's getting sorted, but not going to lie, Hana's still intrigued about the result of the sorting. She sat there, resting her head on her chin, sometimes, stretching her arm to get that apple or a piece of pastry in front of her. When will this end? That pops up in her mind almost every 2 seconds.

Sighs. Time flew so fast

Looking at the new first years waiting in line in the Great Hall, looking around the hall like it's the most fascinating thing in the world, and it's true she can clearly remember every step she took last year. Well, it's time to move on. I've got a whole entire year waiting ahead of me. And I'm here, stirring up all the chaos. People will remember me for that. And that's exactly what I want.

Focusing back to the present time, she just takes another food in front of her, looking at the first years who are getting sorted. Whenever someone pass by, Hana will just simply smiles politely and maybe say 'hi' to someone she knows.

Feel free to interact or mention me <33 It'll be great if you do that!!

The chicken drumstick eventually disappears, and the remaining bone looks rather lonely. Sinclair hadn't found any appetite during the train ride, nor did she eat much during breakfast earlier that day, and logically decided it was in her best interest to at least fill her stomach properly now.

She'd always somewhat kept to herself. Last year, she'd spend some time socialising with Eldred, but now that their friendship was over she found herself rather socially secluded. As for Syrah, she has no idea where she is, what she's doing, or if she's even made it to Hogwarts, having not heard of or seen a hint of that elusive Slytherin. Yet, there was not much energy left to form new bonds, at least not currently.

The dining hall was loud and more chaotic than usual. Every clatter of utensils and chitter chatter around her melded into an inescapable buzz that left Sinclair's brain jittery and her eyes glazed over with dullness. The disorder and excitement that first years brought along with them only made her feel this contrast even more, not that she blamed them. In her seeded a thought that she definitely would have hated to have younger siblings. Her distant gaze lands on the shepherd's pie a little out of her reach. She'd prefer if she could just handle things herself without needing to speak to anyone, but the pie was too far. Sinclair's eyes land on a girl of her year, trying to recall her name.

They had never spoken to each other, but she had heard her name in passing since they were in the same year and house.
"Suzuki, may you please pass the shepherd's pie?" A subtle weariness underlined her usual flat tone, and in her eyes settled a neutral indifference to those around her.

Hana sat there, still biting the apple, looking at the front of the Great Hall, where all the new first years are clustered, she always called them the new ones, because she really still couldn't process the fact that she's a second year now, but talking about the maturity, she can sometimes be worse than a first year. Looking at the huge crowd of the first years and waiting as the millionth first year go onto the stool and have the sorting hat placed on top of their head, she zoned out, thinking of the different chaos she's going to cause in this year, because she said that I didn't really use my time productively last year, like I was such a nerd in my first year, quoted from what she said in the holidays.

As she was zoning out like that, she heard her name, to be precise, her surname. Hana blinked twice and looked at the sorting hat. No way they're calling my name. I've been sorted. What do you mean I'm going to get sorted again? Or did I travel back in time? She shook her head, trying to clear things up because THAT is totally not possible. Looking around the table, she spotted someone looking straight at her. A girl with short jet black hair, though she's wearing the Gryffindor robes, Hana can see the vintage Victorian style coming from her. Hana recognised her, seen her a few times around the castle, and mainly because of her gothic style which stands out.

"Shepherd's pie, you say? Carver?" Hana reached out, but stopped. "You want a slice or the whole tray?" She added, faintly gesturing to the gigantic tray of shepherd pie, which, she thinks, one could not simply finish the whole thing with ease.

Sinclair was ready to receive the whole tray and cut a slice for herself, but since Hana seemed to offer it...
"Just a slice then, thank you," she rose from her seat with her plate held firmly in her hand so that Hana may be able to pass a slice to her easier.

Even amidst fellow students of her house, Sinclair had a rather awkward realisation that she was basically sitting around strangers. All of them. She was disinterested in opening up, but perhaps a naïve part of her had expected for more of a... 'family' group dynamic. She glanced across the table, analytical eyes flitting between the mix of familiar faces yet unfamiliar people, towards those who hugged and conversed with each other, those whose excited demeanours distracted from the shyer types who kept to themselves, and the insecure ones who seemed to want to fit in yet were either too afraid to speak up or did not know how to insert themselves into a social situation. She thought she caught a glimpse of Eldred, but it may have been a figment of her imagination. It'd hurt a little too much to think that despite sharing a table with him right now, no more words would be passed between them. It was her choice, though. She simply deemed him no longer worthy of her time and friendship with the absence she'd received after trying to reach out to him during summer. Despite the initial friendliness, there wasn't anything in common anyway, she told herself. Sinclair would rather be alone than hang around someone that did not have enough consideration for her. It didn't mean she wasn't bitter about it, though.

She watches Hana, quiet, distant, and expectant.
