Jake Morris missed his mark? Now that’s the first time the ever so accurate badger had his spell hit nothing but air. After all the time of being targeted, Mahlioz had probably adapted to the badger’s strategy, being more alert than ever for incoming spells that could send her to the Hospital Wing and she even managed to fire off her own Flipendo. Hades had been taking hit after hit ever since the duel began and when she thought he was out for the game, he was still standing... barely conscious. A part of her wanted to drag him off the piste but that would be an insult to his fighting spirit. Julian just missed his spell once again. Maybe he wasn’t feeling well? his head not in the game. Then again, she could relate to that. She too, had her spells missed almost all the time for some ungodly reasons and heck that was one of the worse days she ever had and felt bad for almost all week ever since the duel ended.

If his Protego only worked, he would still be in the game really. That must’ve sucked. That one spell determining your chances of surviving only for it to fail in the end? If that were her… it would’ve sent her spiralling deeper into the hole that she was currently in. Speaking of failing, Ara failed her spell as well. Instead of torching whoever her wand was pointed at, the flames burst into her instead, engulfing her with its intense heat and even setting her on fire. “Oooooh.” Raizel winced. That’s two failures in one round. Didn’t see that coming at all.

As for Hanako… well, he’s chilling there on the floor, looking so helpless but at least he tried breaking free and will you look at that, it was successful! Good for him. That’s gotta save him from another insult from Ara and since she had set herself on fire, Maybe this is the time that Hanako can take his revenge on her. She just wishes him luck because really, she’s rooting for Ara at this point when it comes to their bickering. She doesn’t know why but their exchange was just entertaining or maybe because she thinks that Hanako deserves all of those when his juniors were carrying the whole duel. Okay, that was cruel. He has contributions so better not to invalidate those. He’s just not doing great just like Julian.

Seven rounds in and they were starting to catch up. For once, Mahlioz had a sliver of hope that they might actually win this thing. Her spell did beautifully, and not only that, but both spells aimed at her missed. One she automatically dodged out of habit (thank the stars), and the other backfired on the Hufflepuff who cast it.

He was finally out - they had knocked someone out first. Before the two sixth years and the fifth year. And while Mahlioz felt close to joining their upperclassman in the hospital wing, they were still standing. Despite Ara's backfire - ouch, that fire had to hurt - she was still standing too. And the old man Hanako was back on his feet. They weren't done for yet.

See, the random push ups he does regularly do come in handy eventually. He let out a satisfied sigh as he felt the spell wear off, the stiffness still making it difficult for him to get on his feet as quickly as he wanted to. At least he didn’t have to worry about getting hit. Oh wow, was it getting a little hot in here or was it just him? Jest. He could very well see Ara having her own flames turned against her. “ I suppose my reputations isn’t the only thing up in flames hm?” he mocked in a casual tone.

Looked like her luck from the last duel came back to her. Well that hurt. She couldn't say all of it was from the wrath of the dueling gods though. They were doing way better than last match. The dueling gods really need to pick a lane.

Ara'd been engulfed by her own flames, the fire burning her.

Pity the museum exhibit reject stood up again to mock her. Might be karma for bullying them too much but oh well. “If anything, I’m doing you a favor. Now people will focus on the flames instead of the embarrassment that is you.” she said with a rare smile of hers. It wasn't exactly the kindest smiles she's given though, it was more condescending really. Merlin, did he ever stop talking? It was impressive, really. For someone with one foot in the grave, he had quite the energy for banter.

“Honestly, you should be thanking me. At least the smoke’s doing wonders hiding those wrinkles of yours,” she added, voice low enough to sound casual but sharp enough to cut. Her gaze flicked up and down at him, as if weighing whether the flames might have improved him somehow.

The faintest smirk tugged at her mouth as she added, almost sweetly, “Try not to inhale too much of the smoke. Pretty sure your lungs are older than the castle itself.” Her wand twitched slightly in her hand as she stamped out the last of the flames clinging to her robes.

Hades went down! Jake had known that he couldn't take their opponents lightly...he had known that age alone wasn't a sign of who would win...but still he did a bit of a double take as Hades's shield spell failed to come up and Mahlioz sent him to the ground. He was the first of them to fall, and now it was 2 against 3. For the first time, Jake began to think that they were really going to lose. "Um....regroup?" he said, looking sideways at Julian. They had been friends for years now, so he hoped that meant they'd have some kind of....friend telepathy?

They were really going to need it.

Hades thought he would be out of the duel, as he was in a state that had never been seen before, almost to the limit. In his turn, Hades tried to perform the protego spell, knowing that he was very close to getting out of the duel. Despite having failed the protego, he remained standing there. He thought it would be the end with this last spell...

But it did not. To his surprise, he was able to stay and continue the duel. He stared at his teammates, checking the state they were in. He stared with a smug smile at the state of paralysis of Hanako was. Hades was in a critical situation, but at least he could delight. Hades assumed that this round would be his last, and knowing in the state it was.

Raizel couldn’t tell what’s happening. Jake Morris had been accurate since the beginning of the duel. Last round, he missed and now as well. Was he losing his cool? Doesn’t look like it from what she could see or perhaps he was just unlucky. He still has another round to redeem himself. What’s more eye-catching, however, is the ever strong Hades who, not only had managed to remain standing until now, had also dodged an incoming spell from Ara despite looking like he’s about to fall with only a flick of a finger. She was starting to like his fighting spirit and that was enough for her to cheer him on silently while silently hoping he could still last until the end. Julian was more fortunate this time with his Cracker Jinx, hitting Ara directly after most of his spells were avoided.

Slytherin wasn’t letting up, Hanako went for another healing spell on Mahlioz. For a 6th year, all he had ever done was provide support, not something she was expecting. For sure, he was supposed to be the one carrying this duel but the other two were more fortunate than him when it comes to spell casting. He failed two consecutive Confringos. It was no wonder they had put him in support duties. From looking like she was about to be sent to the Hospital Wing into someone that’s slowly getting her energy back, Mahlioz was looking much better compared to her earlier state all thanks to Hanako’s heals. Ara, on the other hand, is the one having a bad time with a spell hitting while she was still on fire. Lucky for her, the fire was dying out.

This could still be anyone’s game.

How were they this close to the end and yet still so unsure of the winners? two more rounds to go, but both teams seemed to be equally harmed. The Hufflepuff they kept attacking was not doing well - it looked a miracle he was still alive - but it was so annoying he wouldn't just- get out of the game! Though Ara wasn't looking much better. Thankfully, Hanako decided to send a healing spell Mahlioz's way, to which she said another "thank you!" this time a bit more enthusiastic. Phew, everything hurt a bit less now. Now to get their head back in the game, as that crackers jinx had been so close but just not close enough.

He swore to god that wand was not supposed to be pointed at him. Maybe the duel was tiring everyone out, and Jake got distracted by Hanako’s good looks that for once, didn’t need to be accompanied by burning flames on the cloth of his clothes. Hanako ignored Mahl’s polite thank you with a shrug, briefly looking to Ara. Should he feel bad that she was in a worse state than both him and mahl? Maybe.. Maybe he would’ve if she wasn’t such a brat this math. Oh well. Thats one alternative universe he didn’t need to care for or think about too much. “ I could heal you too if you just said ‘please’,” he mocked his injured teamate in a playful tone
