Come be Comforted! <3
Once again, I'm back on the job this summer cleaning rooms and honestly, it's proving to be one of worst decisions I ever made.
I foolishly reapplied under the expectation that I'd get to do what I did in the latter half of my time last year - inspections, maintenance etc. I knew cleaning came with the job but out of the nearly 4 months I worked last year, I only cleaned for 2.5 weeks between sporadic locations without getting a real feel for the rooms themselves, what routine and techniques work for me etc. So to say I'm a stellar cleaner is nothing short of absolute nonsense and that was my reasoning for hoping to not do that part of the job. Between no guidance when I joined last year and the inconsistent scheduling I was given, I saw no reason why they'd think getting me to clean was a good idea.
Before the nitpickiest supervisor came back, all my rooms were good however - they were approved by another supervisor who thought I'd done well. That gave me confidence. That's what pushed me to be able to do 4 rooms in a day without feeling I was holding anyone back. For the last 3-4 weeks, all was good. Maybe the odd reminder here and there but nothing that I felt I was dragging them behind over.
Now that the other and rather nastier supervisor is back, all of a sudden my rooms are not good. There's something wrong with the desk, shower, floors and so on and so on in each and every room I've done. She has a whole list of what "isn't good" that she's given me. Some things are a trick of a light that I couldn't see, others are things that I already spent ages trying to clean but won't come off. Trying to tell her that is as easy as draining blood from a stone.
Just been told to redo all the rooms I've done last week. All of them. So now my confidence is shattered. And this was the same person who "jokingly" told me, "nobody wants you" last year.
I can't quit because I need cash to get me through the summer and possibly into next year. There's no other jobs that I can apply for and I'm just feeling really frustrated that I came back when I knew I couldn't do this, even more so over wishful thinking as well, and a bit torn down altogether. I don't take my breaks at all during these shifts, trying to get what I'm told to done. 4 rooms is the minimum that need done a day. Sometimes they're fine, other times it'll take 2 hours to do one room because of how messy it is. And one of my earlier criticisms was that I was too slow, so I do what I can to speed up whilst hitting all 4 rooms a day. And because I skip my breaks to do that, that means five solid hours of no food, bathroom break etc trying all I can and practically praying I've done an okay job. Now it feels like those breaks were wasted for nothing.
I hope I don't sound all woe is me, that's not my intention here. I'm just venting and feeling a bit upset about how drastically things have changed in the last week. I know everyone's standards are different but that doesn't really help me learn how to manage my time between rooms, what I can focus on more so that it's presentable etc.
Just a little defeated at the minute.

Aww thanks for sharing so vulnerably.
I'm dreadfully sorry you're going through this. Your frustration's valid, I'd feel just as defeated in your position. Almost anyone would.
It's not fair that you were made to do cleaning with such heavy expectations without any proper guidance. It's not fair that the expectations on ya changed so drastically. It's not fair that your supervisor doesn't see the amount of effort you've put in to cleaning da rooms. I can't imagine how difficult this must be, doing your best, pushing yourself to exhaustion by skipping breaks and then getting told you're not good enough. It's terribly unfair.
But you didn't give up. You're still trying, trying to meet the unrealistic expectations placed on you. You're still pushing through each day. You're still giving your best in spite of your situation. That's resilience, Em. That's really admirable. And that matters.
I'm in no position to give ya any advice to face the future but I hope ya remember we'll be here for you no matter what life throws at you. You got this Em~ :>

Life is like a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans; you never know what you are going to get.

Check online for jobs local to you. It is unlikely that is the -only- job, just the only one you're familiar with. Consider your options.
There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, Em! It’s horrible! I’m going to keep this short since other people have said things, but I would like to say one thing. Whoever told you nobody wants you is wrong. So many people love you even if you don’t know it! Just know that you are never alone!

Being told nobody wants you even as "a joke" is exactly not what they said it was. If you can, you should report your supervisor. I get that what she said was said last year, however if they say it once they can say it again. And they most likely will.
Not getting listened to is another thing: God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason. To listen more than we talk. Clearly your supervisor seems to think She has two mouths and one ear.
Aside from that, I really hope your workplace experience get better. Try to stay strong for us, OK?

I’m really sorry that you have to experience this Emmi. I know that it must be super hard and you don’t deserve such ill treatment. We are all praying for youI’m not sure about other people, but you are one of the people in hio that I look up to and aspire to be as lovely and AMAZING!! You are loved and never give up hope!!
I’ve never been in such a situation, but you have to do what you feel is right. Can you look at other potential jobs (I know you said there is none but have a look and see if your friends/family know if anything)? Or offer a service like like tutoring/child care? As someone said, perhaps (discreetly) report your supervisor.
I really hope life gets better for you!!! If you ever need to talk to someone, my owls are open
It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!

Okay, uhm, this really isn't the thread for that, and I'm sure you'd get answers in the 'ooc let's chat' but umbridge

It's not good to 'not care' about a thread like this. Graci's right. This thread isn't the place to be joking around. It's a place where people can come and say what they're going through and have people that care be there for them. OOC Chat is a better place for this. I get that you want to do classes, but posting random things in threads without reading the rules or what happens in the thread won't help you get there faster.Oliver Hudson wrote: 19 Jun 2025, 18:15 Ok I don’t care I’m just trying to stay classes but I have to make 20 posts before that
