Aaaaaand down he went! Fourth time.
"Ah crissakes..." Casey grumbled as he massaged his lower back out where he landed onto the gravel. When was the last time he had this much trouble idling his unicycle? A good year or so ago now. Well, until now it would appear. After letting his unicycle sit and gather a thin layer of dust in the corner of the Thunderbird dormitory, it seemed the wires of Casey's ability to ride the thing have gotten a smidge weaker recently. And he struggled with idling enough as it was.
Casey grabbed the seat of the unicycle and pulled it off the ground the right way up once he got back on his feet. He retraced his steps for the fifth time back towards the stone wall at the side of the school building, wheeling the unicycle back with him where he mounted it. Sitting hips and shoulders forward, posture in line with the saddle, he pedalled along the wall before taking off.
He glided across the gravel and onto the grass, pedalling fast as he sat tall on the saddle, his arms loose at his sides as he cycled around on the one-wheel wonder. He circled a few bushes, weaved between a few bumps and stones and turned around every fifteen or so pedals, his waist and hips twisting as he jerked the unicycle to change direction.
He cycled nonstop for five minutes. He felt the muscles in his legs work overtime to keep him upright and steady as he travelled across the grounds. Despite the physical effort inside, Casey was as casual as a Friday. Everything from his face to his demeanour exuberated confidence and practice.
Bless his mother for getting him hooked on Muggle circus toys. Casey smiled a little to himself. He'd be lying if he said he didn't miss this. He juggled when he was troubled. He played with the diabolo when he was angry. But for unicycling... He just missed it, despite the fact he almost rage quitted six times trying to learn the damn thing many moons ago. Balancing on a contraption with one wheel was hard for crissakes! Casey may as well have gotten stabilisers when he first started out on it.
Yet after time passed, he almost nailed the basics. Idling was the last to check off the list before he could get fancy with it.
Casey slowed down until he was nearing a spot where he could pedal in one place. He went one pedal forward... Then he tried to bring the foot back in again.
"Okay, now back to-- Crap!"
Casey stalled a little too long and he started leaning sideways. Abandon ship! Casey's right foot met the ground and launched the unicycle yards in front of him as he tried to dismount in as graceful away possible... Only to stumble backwards and land on his rear.
Casey laid back on the ground in a tangled mess, he expression foul. He groaned loudly.
Ow.
Casey flopped over and got back up again, rubbing his back and hip out to ease the pain of collision. He went to retrieve his unicycle that landed in a patch of cattails.
"Let's try again..."

✽Dylan smiled as he walked along the Grounds. He was in a great mood today for no reason. Maybe it was because he had finally gotten to see his favorite and only cousin for the first time in years? Maybe. Though it was probably because it was finally a bright and sunny day. The perfect day to enjoy a stroll outside along the grounds.
Dylan was just walking peacefully on a path he hadn't taken in awhile when he heard a crash that came with what he thought was an American curse. He had been living in America since he was eight yet he still didn't understand Americans. They were so different compared to the witches and wizards he had met in Wales when he was young. It was almost as if some of them were way more lenient and not as stern about pureblood parties. Which Dylan wasn't complaining about. He loved a good party where he didn't have to act like he was better than everyone else when he knew he wasn't.
Finally Dylan had come across the person that had made the sound. Dylan cocked his head and almost laughed. He had never seen such a mysterious object before. It was as if a muggle bike had been cut in half.
Dylan watched the older student he felt he had seen around his dorm before continue riding. He was impressed at how easy he made it look. There was no way that Dylan was getting on that thing. Not even Avery could drag him onto it.
Eventually the older student crashed onto the ground with some more words said. That was Dylan's chance to finally introduce himself. He kicked off the wall he had been leaning against and walked over to the disheveled older student. With a smile he said, "That was impressive. What mysterious muggle object is this?" Dylan asked before saying, "I'm Dylan by the way." ✽

There was a little bit of a stiff shuffle when Casey walked back over to the wall to try again. Before he could mount it, he was distracted by the sound of a voice and footsteps coming towards him. He turned and saw a boy walk up to him. If Casey had to guess, the boy looked like he was younger than him, probably a First Year.
"That was impressive. What mysterious muggle object is this?"
"Oh, uh-- It's a unicycle," Casey said, somewhat taken aback by the sudden compliment and intrigue. He thought the place he'd chosen to practice was pretty quiet and isolated. Never mind then. "It kinda means 'one wheeled bicycle', as you can see here. You sit on this--" He tapped the saddle before pointing to the pedals at the wheel. "And you balance upright while tryin' to pedal using these thingies down here..."
He hopped back on to demonstrate, using the wall for leverage as he pedalled a few times forward before cycling backwards again and dismounting.
"Apparently Muggles use this for circus tricks," Casey continued. "My Mom came across one of 'em in her travels and thought she'd get me one. I hafta say, she thought right thinkin' I'd like it. It's a helluva lot of fun when you start gettin' the hang of it".
He let the unicycle rest against the wall as he walked over and fist-bumped the other boy.
"I'm Casey. Hope you enjoyed the show," he said, unable to resist the smirk creeping onto his face. It had been a while since he had an audience... Or rather, one that he didn't mind hanging around. After finally feeling like he could get comfortable with people again, he was seeing Ilvermorny in a much more pleasant light, to the point that he wasn't bothered by people trying to make small talk with him anymore - or just people in general.
"So whaddya think?" Casey lifted the unicycle by the seat post and gave the wheel another quick turn before setting back onto the ground to stop it. "Pretty neat, eh?"

✽Dylan tilted his head when the older boy said it was a unicycle. He had never heard of such an interesting yet mysterious object before. Then again, he wasn't very educated in muggles. No matter how much he probably should be.
Dylan listened as he explained what the mysterious unicycle was and even demonstrated how he rode it. Dylan watched in interest. Taking in the details as they were explained. He wanted to know what the mysterious thing was, so he could tell Avery about it. Avery would be very interested. She used to have a muggle friend, so she would probably love hearing about this.
"It's fascinating. Muggles make some interesting things without magic." Dylan said with a laugh to the older boy he know knew as Casey.
With a smirk on his own face, Dylan leaned against the wall in order to observe the mysterious half-bike more closely. He wanted to make sure he knew exactly how it worked, so he could easily show Avery that he did at least know something about muggles. She usually made fun of him for never being around them, so why not prove her otherwise by watching how a muggle object worked? That counted, right? ✽

Rayne made his way outside, simply because he was bored and inside the school was too noisy. He hadn't been on the grounds in a while, and he walked out of the school and entered the grounds, taking in the air. He was really tired and bored, so he decided to plant something cause why not. Gardening was one of his hobbies and his favorite thing to do when bored, apart from reading.
As he walked more, and heard some noise or perhaps chattering, it was people. He walked towards the people talking and saw two boys talking by some wall, they were smirking at each other, supposedly thinking they were cool. He stared at them blankly and was going to walk away when he noticed some type of cursed-looking object.
He had never seen anything so weird; it was like a muggle bicycle split in half. It was a muggle item he assumed, and gosh was it ugly. He stared at it with a disgusted look on his face, wondering what the heck it was. "Hello. Umm, what the heck is that?" Rayne said, grabbing the boy's attention, pointing down at the weirdly formed bicycle.

Casey thought this might be the first time he's met someone that actually seemed genuinely interested in Muggle-mania. It was certainly a nicer fresh air for other Wizard kids to just roll with the new and bizarre Muggle toys. It wasn't like with Cursa where Casey would have to sit him down and go through a list of Muggle slang with a Dictionary just so he could catch on to what the hay Casey was yapping about in half their conversations together.
And speaking of the other end of the spectrum of Muggle awareness, another kid came up to them, looking around Dylan's age, if not younger. Much like the aforementioned vast majority of baffled Wizard students that see Muggle items for the first time, this new kid was showing blatant evidence of that through what Casey could only describe as "confused disgust". Casey groaned inwardly. Such response could only come from the most befuddled Pureblood individuals.
"It's a unicycle," Casey repeated coolly. "You can ride on it if you've got good balance on it". Casey hopped back on and sat idly on the saddle, a hand resting on the wall for support.
"It's pretty fun when you get the hang of it," he continued, flashing a smile in Dylan's direction. "Gotta hand it to Muggles. They know how to get creative with little inventions like these".

✽Dylan glanced up at the sound of footsteps. A boy around his age if not slightly younger was walking towards where he and Casey stood. Disgust was evident on the boy’s face and Dylan cringed internally. He wasn’t sure what was to come of this meeting, but he did hope that it didn’t end in a fight. That wouldn’t be good at all.
Dylan nodded a smile returning to his face. He couldn’t agree more. Muggles really did come up with the most creative and unusual gadgets.
“I can’t agree more. The amount of mysterious muggle objects and creations I’ve seen is starting to become quite a long list.” Dylan laughed. It was true. Muggles were strange yet be try fascinating.
Dylan stole another glance to the boy that was approaching. Not wanting to start off on the wrong foot, Dylan smiled and said, “Hi. I’m Dylan. What’s your name?”
Then Dylan turned his attention back to the unicycle. Not wanting to stare too long and make the other boy angry. That was something Dylan wasn’t ready for. Not now. Not ever.
He couldn’t leave now. Not when the strange muggle object in front of him was still there. He made a mental note that no matter what happened he would stay there until at least the older boy, Casey decided it was time to leave. The object was just too fascinating for him to not find out more about. ✽
