Akari wondered if he was being a bit too overbearing. "I might try some more, then," he mused, glancing back at the refreshment tables.
XXXSome more students were coming down from the Great Hall of Hogwarts, and he vaguely recognized the two girls that had been conversing with his cousin earlier. They looked quite excited. A crowd seemed to be forming around this one Hogwarts girl who was making flower crowns. Akari wondered what that was all about.
XXXJust then, he heard a familiar voice and looked up to see his wonderful classmate friend fellow birds and flowers fanatic best buddy of all time. Of course, those weren't the exact words that he thought, but that was sort of what described the sparkly feeling crawling up from his stomach again. Akari could think of a lot of ways to describe the sparkles of happiness.
XXX"Fujimoto-kun!" he exclaimed, standing up excitedly. "You're here too? Oh, sorry, Edward," Akari remembered, narrowly dodging an automatic honorific. "Would you excuse me, please?" He beamed, leading Hikari deeper into the garden. Well, more accurately into a loop of hedges that just went back towards the center. "Have a great evening!!" he added. The music continued to drift from somewhere unknown, presumably via magic. Akari didn't think they could just place an entire array of instrument players in the bushes.
XXX"So, when did you get here?" Akari asked brightly as they walked. "Have you tried the refreshments yet? Danced with anyone?" He started off with his usual bombardment of questions, though he tried to tone it down a little more, since he knew Hikari wasn't exactly the biggest fan of small talk. Akari couldn't help it, though. He liked knowing things! Even tiny, random little things!
XXXHe made a quick detour to the beverage arrangement, examining a slightly-fizzy pinkish, transparent drink. He wasn't entirely sure what it was, but it looked exciting! And hey, other students were holding similar glasses, so it must not be alcoholic. Akari hurried back over to Hikari, taking a small sip. His first thought was that the drink tasted a bit like ramune, but with an extra floral, fruity undertone. "Ooo," he mused. "This tastes good."
XXXThere seemed to be a commotion going on over by the other table, some of them shouting in surprise and one even dropping their cards. Akari glanced over to them, curious, and then checked his own. There, inscribed in calligraphy, lay different words than before: fire. He regarded the change for a moment before tugging the card off of his wrist and holding it up curiously with a smile. "I love fire! I wonder what it means, though?" he questioned. It was growing quite chilly, and Akari shivered a little. Some people were even casting lumos. Some fire would be pretty nice right now. Ooh! Like a bonfire!
Action: Saying farewell to @Edward Foxe and wandering off to chat with @Pamela Graham as Hikari. Drinking some sparkling sharbat! Also noticing @Colin McCoire, @Emily Shephard, and Colin x2 as Cursa, plus his own card!

11 April - the evening of the Spring Soirée
ngelFyre was relieved to see that the people immediately around her were all looking at their dance cards. As she was scanning the area for any signs of danger, she noticed that Cursa and his friend were looking at their dance cards as well.
Word got around fast. Good.
She looked down at hers when both Colin and Emily said theirs had been empty but now contained the word "Fyre". Yes, her mind immediately went to the name Colin generally called her by, just because it was what she was so used to hearing. Emily never called her by that moniker, however, and besides, why would her truncated name appear on anyone's dance card but Simon's anyway? These thoughts swirled across her consciousness as she looked down to find her own card had been altered as well. It was not "Fyre", but FIRE.
The type she had just seen in her vision.
She stared, dumbstruck, at her card for a few seconds, wondering if someone was casting on all of them and making this happen? She glanced around the venue and then up to Simon quickly, reaching for his card. Just as every name he had written on her card was gone, every name she had written on his card was now gone too. Vanished. Replaced with the single, sinister word in prettified script.
She then took note of the cold chill in the air and her heart sank as she suddenly flashed on the vision she had had in Divination class not long ago, the day she saw the Dementors in the crystal ball. All she had been tasked with doing that day was to create a little diversion for Gideon. He had asked for 40-45 seconds, and boy did he get his money's worth, the price of which was supposed to be another fix of the mysterious potion. AngelFyre, however, had been so distressed by her vision that she forgot about the potion altogether and never knew if Gideon had achieved what he had set out to do or not. She had been prepared to make up some silly vision to mollify him into believing she truly was on the hunt for more potion, but she got a real vision instead. She had not been able to place where it was happening, but she was clear that she, Simon, Colin, and Emily were circled together, all with their backs to one another, wands drawn and ready for a fight.
It was cold in the Garden now, but she was not seeing her breath. That was good. Professor Clairmont had been silent on her pupil's insistence to know why she would have seen such a thing, and AngelFyre recognized the folly in asking such a thing of her anyway, but it was unsettling. She now quickly said a prayer for everyone's protection and safety in the Garden at the moment, and was struck by the flickering and dimming of the fairly lights. Fireflies made their way towards her, and she found it strange they would do so, but comforting. "Stay close," she said as much to them as to her little group. "Light is always the best defense against the dark." And like Emily had done moments before, AngelFyre released Godshall from her hidden pocket in her skirt and pointed it out and away from her handsome Hufflepuff's eyes and towards the dark edges of the Garden.
"Let us see what we shall see," and she flicked her wand forward and back and forward once more while intoning "Lumos Maxima!" Then, because his eyes were so much better with night vision, she added, "Simon, look to the night sky. You do not happen to see anything remotely resembling a Dementor do you?"
She fully expected to hear an unequivocal "No!" from him, but it was better to be safer than sorry just in case.

Cursa McCoire @Colin McCoire
OOC Notes: With the recent site updates, all posts where Casey is being roleplayed will be made under this account unless asked otherwise
Casey exploded into laughter after hearing what Cursa just said. "Yeah right, Red! You ain't a snogger yet, but you sure as hell Cursa McGlare-At-A-Girl now." Casey was always a tough nut to crack when it came to persuasion and forming opinions but this time, he was definitely in the right... Romance runs as thick as the blood in the McCoires within that family.
But when Cursa's expression became more serious, Casey's laughter transitioned into silence. For all Cursa could talk smack about Colin, he could tell he respected him.
"Hag slugs eh? Hm... I've heard of them. Though I doubt there's a cure for what's got Colin so high that he goes lustin' after every girl his eyes land on. Hag slugs would almost make him seem normal in a weird way".
He listened to Cursa talk about Colin's nickname. He'd heard it before from Emily. Woofy. Casey shrugged, not really thinking much of it. "That's the name I'd go for if my best friend was actin' like he was Romulus and Remus's bizarre estranged cousin".
With the recent panic over the dance cards quickly overshadowing the conversation, Casey and Cursa were quick to become guarded. Well... Casey seemed a little more tuned in that Cursa appeared to be, his eyes lingering on where that girl was last seen.
"Oi, Red," Casey flicked the side of Cursa's head. "You can hit on girls later. Right now we could be dealin' with something serious here!"
Casey stood up on top of the crafts table as he surveyed the area around him. He saw Emily and a friend of hers already on the forefront of casting light into the suspiciously dark corners of the venue. He smiled. A smart cookie, Emily was. No one knew their way around the dark better than she did. He was dead set in that opinion.
He picked a tree nearest to him and scrambled to a branch high enough to view the garden and everything around it. With surveillance like that, then he might be able to catch something strange a lot quicker.
"Watch your six, Red. Things might just get weirder tonight..."

Date: 11th April 2025The panic had been so vivid, so overwhelming that he wasn't even aware his feet had began to rush until the fresh open air of the gardens hit him. While it did its best to quash the bubbling sensation of vomit that he had been induced upon seeing @Gideon Athanatos there was no real reprieve. The blonde psycho was a reminder of everything he had become and a clock trike of the impending hour when he'd have to tell him father and meet their stern gazes. Breathe he begged from his body, pleading with a vessel that had no control. He had to breathe or the radiant hydrangeas that softened his landing were going to be soiled most foully.
In through the mouth for four, hold for four, exhale for four. That's what the child psychologist had said when he was past the point of return. If he didn't get his body realigned with his mind he was going to faint and the last thing another Hogwarts ball needed was an unconscious body. Last ball the fallen never rose again and Matthew was nearing certainty that if he did succumb to the wishes of his frazzled form he would be the next victim of wizarding soirees. So he repeated and repeated until the thudding beat of his heart rendered itself to a low thrum; harsh enough to register its presence but low enough to ease the suffocating feeling.
After a few minutes more of regulation he regained senses he never even realised he had lost. The bustle of the garden had began to prick at his ears filling the once silence with mindless chatter and clinks of glasses. Even though the panic had mostly subsided Matthew's senses were overloaded and the last thing he needed was interaction with strangers thus pulling his toadstool hat down to cover his eyes he made his way towards the refreshment table determined to get some water. The cool relief of it on his lips would do wonders for his body and then perhaps the serenity of the gardens could ease his heart.
Then when everything seemed dark a singular voice pierced through the noise and drew him like a moth to a flame. A lotus in the water he had sought mere moments ago, as if fate had decided that for once it would spare him some suffering. One could never trust fate to work in a regular fashion nor could you ever believe it to be kind or forgiving but today its delicate embrace was one he could hardly fault. Like a lighthouse in then night she shone from across the way beckoning him to safety out of the wretched waters, a life line, a beam of hope. Isa was ornamented in flowers that mimicked her as close to nature as possible with earthy tones that perfectly accented her rich complexion. While his outfit no doubt looked cheap given its hand-made design hers spoke of the elegance and refinery he knew she was but that of which she couldn't see.
To themselves they were born curse, to each other they were nothing shy of perfection. A mirrored reflection of the truth, but one they both could not see for themselves.
Slowly hobbling his way over trying to avoid as much detection as possible from any prying eyes Matthew became reacquainted with his position as a wall flower. To most he would be completely invisible, but he knew that when he looked in Isa's eyes she would not hold him with such contempt or despair. In her crystal blue eyes he could see himself sparkling, like a version of himself he hadn't met but desperately wanted to. Reaching the edge of the table he heard a chipper American voice asking Isa for a dance. Should he be doing that, red flush began to stain his cheeks making him grateful he had pushed the mushroom so far down as to disguise his embarrassment.
In truth it wasn't like that with Isadora, not like it had been with Viva. They had formed an almost instant connection but it was a love born from friendship, after all Matthew was far too young to really be analysing such complex emotions that most adults hadn't even figured out. Yet as the red retreated unmarking his skin he contemplated the question once more. After all he was quite sure friends often danced together at balls, so bucking up the courage he let out a gentle cough and with a timid yet meaningful smile he let a small voice echo into the night saying, "Hey Isa, I would also like to steal a place on your dance card. Only if that's ok of course." In the rush of babbling he also spurted out a pitiful excuse at an introduction to the young blonde girl, "I'm Matthew by the way!"
Unsure of how his new friend might react Matthew found himself fiddling about with his hands desperate to keep them occupied and divert his eyes from the pair of girls who could just as easily laugh him off. Finding his wand he let his hands rush across the grooves of the cherry wands inlets, a soothing notion he had performed ever since it had chosen him. Eyes returning to Isa he lost himself in the pools of crystal water and waited with baited breath.

Entering the dance with @AngelFyre McCubbin
Friday, 11 April 2025
As soon as AngelFyre’s vision began, Simon brought himself behind her, placing his hand gently at her side in hopes to reassure his presence. While she may be lost in a vision, he did this to let her know that he was still close. He remained silent and still so not to disturb her. This vision would come and it was trying to communicate something to her.
Within moments, the vision had passed; the message received. Everyone began looking at their dance cards as instructed, Simon and AngelFyre included. He expected his to look as it had the last time he put his eyes upon it - filled with nicknames belonging to his girlfriend but that was not the case. Fire. Fire. Fire…..
All the messages the same, card after card. The murmurs began to spread and grow with intensity all across the grounds of Hogwarts as if they were engulfing flames themselves.
AngelFyre had an idea to cast light into the darkness of the night - to literally illuminate their situation. Heading to her warning, Simon diverted his gaze from the light at the end of her wand until it was directed and cast forward. She requested he look with his heightened sense of sight due to his enlarged pupil dhampir trait. Perhaps there were dementors ahead, she suggested, and it was just at that moment that Simon remembered the unsettling feeling he had just as they were entering the dance. Was someone or something there?
The fireflies nearby hovered close and he wasn’t sure if that was a bad sign that they perhaps wanted protection from the witches, wizards, and halfbreeds on the grounds of a good sign that they weren’t scared off. Back in London, he could remember times when there was lightning, a fire, a rather upset crowd - and how the pigeons always fled as if to know danger could be near and wanted to protect themselves from it.
He looked, hoping his eyes could perhaps adjust to what was before them in the distance and see whatever it was there might be to see.
He too drew his wand and remained close to AngelFyre, Emily, and Colin.

Hikari didn't react as Akari stood up excitedly, greeting him in a way that left a fleeting impression of Hayato. His eyes scanned the boy before him, mentally approving his outfit for the occasion. He allowed himself to be dragged along the garden path with minimal resistance, hands buried in his pockets, keepiing pace with the energy that was...very Akari.
He only half listened as the black-haired boy launched into his usual flurry of questions. His eyes scanned the place, focusing on a girl who seemed to be making flower crowns, and his gaze lingered - not on the student herself, but the crowns. Beautiful. There was something quietly delicate in their simplicity, a kind of fleeting innocence that always seemed out of reach for people like him.
Still, he watched.
"Just a little while ago." he said finally, unable to really look away from the pretty flowers a few tables away, "Tried the food." He paused, "Way too many pastries." Not that he really minded. "Haven't danced with anyone." Obviously. He glanced at him, "You already knew that."
He stopped as Akari veered off towards the drinks table, before returning with a pinkish drink in his hand, face alight with something akin to joy. Hikari eyed the drink warily, "You're brave."
He wasn't really sure if his words were heard, because Akari had already deviated to studying his dance card, and Hikari took his own out, to see "Fire" written in flawless calligraphy which quiet honestly left a pleasant aftertaste on his mind. Figures. Akari was indeed just like fire; wild, unpredictable.
Unrestrained.
Hikari often envied him.
He shook his head, "Dunno what it mean. I suppose we'll see."

"The flower that smells the sweetest is shy and lowly”-

With the ball slowly becoming a bit more lively than before. Isadora felt her heart pick up in speed though she was standing beside Devon and the girl seemed to ease her uneasiness. The students and staff that were mingling about seemed harmless, but Isadora felt a bit uneased as if something could happen at any moment.
That was Hogwarts though a school of mystery and chaos. A place where things would happen that one would not imagine could.
Blinking slightly Isadora pulled her attention back towards the happy blonde that was standing near her. Devon was definitely strange, she supposed in a good way. She was bubbly energetic and very kind. While Isadora seemed more like a shy mouse compared to the energetic rabbit that seemed to be eminent from Devon’s bubbly personality.
Crystal blue eyes seemed to lock upon familiar hazel ones. A young snake that seemed to gain Isadora’s attention. A person that she seemed to bond rather quickly with. A friend that was not one of blood or forced upon her. Someone that seemed to hold as much darkness as the young girl felt inside her.
The young girl fidgeted slightly, noticing Matthew grow closer to them. Glancing back towards Devon Isadora noticed the young blonde girl smile. Isadora gave a small shy smile back towards the young girl.
Listening to Devon speak about wanting a dance. A dance? That sounded lovely but Isadora was not one who could dance well nor did she really know how to dance properly. The best the girl could do was hop around and get lost in the sounds of nature that was usually her music.
Before Isadora could respond to Isadora. A certain hazel eyed boy stood close to the duo. Isadora locked eyes with Matthew. The girl felt her heart race slightly nervously as she twiddled with the edge of her light beige brownish dress.
Now the girl was in a slight pickle. Two people asking her to dance? Isadora glanced towards Devon then back at Matthew. Though Devon was a sweet girl and she enjoyed her company. Isadora was drawn to dance more with her friend. Granted Matthew and Isadora only met prior to the ball but the two seemed to get along rather swimmingly and the boy seemed to match Isadora’s energy just slightly.
Glancing towards Devon Isadora smiled softly.
“I am sorry Devon, maybe later we can dance.”
Isadora spoke softly, her creole accent was gentle and thick as the young girl turned her crystal blue gaze towards Matthew looking into his golden speckled hazel eyes. As if the ocean's sea was being gazed at by the setting sun.
Isadora glanced over at Devon smiling softly as the young girl gently grabbed Matthew’s hand to ease his nervousness. The young girl noticed him twiddling his hands nervously, something that did quite often herself. Turning to wave farewell to her new found friend.
Isadora gently guided Matthew towards the open area that seemed to be uncrowded though some students seemed to be dancing about and having fun. Isadora did not seem to mind. Matthew always seemed to have a presence that seemed to put the girl at ease.
Maybe it was the fact that Matthew was one of the first friends she made? Or maybe it was just his aura that seemed to be calming.
Isadora stopped slightly out in the open of the dancing area. The young girl glanced around slightly gazing up at the starry night sky with the impending moon looming over reminding the girl of what to come tomorrow.
Turning slightly around hand still grasped in Matthew’s hand crystal blue eyes once more reflected upon the hazel eyes in front of her.
Isadora fidgeted slightly, uncertain she never truly ever danced with anyone not to her recollection, maybe with a cousin or something at one point in her life but even that she would not say counted truly.
The young girl could feel her heart racing as her face dusted slightly in a pink dust of embarrassment. Was she truly ready to dance with a boy? Not only that it was Matthew? Someone she did not know fairly well but definitely bonded with quickly a friend, one of her first friends to be precise.
Slowly Isadora drew herself back to reality standing close to Matthew still holding his hand gently. As the young girl glanced around her crystal blue eyes turned back towards the boy in front of her. She was slightly shorter than Matthew but Isadora was short compared to a lot of students even some first years were taller than the girl, but she did not mind it was not a major deal to the young girl after all.
“I must warn you I’m not very good at dancing.”
Isadora spoke softly warning Matthew in case the young girl stepped on his toes or possibly tripped over him. This was something new to Isadora. But she was not terrified, maybe a bit nervous but not terrified because this boy had a calming aura about him, something she enjoyed. Like the thorns that protect a Rose, Matthew seemed to make Isadora feel safe even if they barely knew each other their friendship was a strong bond nonetheless.![]()

Thoughts: italicsDevon was well aware that her conversation partner was quiet. Not that she minded. As much as she enjoyed talking, she loved talking to people who were quiet. It helped her learn to slow down a little and appreciate their company. To be fair, she often had a lot of energy. She couldn’t remember a time when she didn’t have energy. It could become difficult when it was time for her to sit still. When she first started at Ilvermorny, she could be found tapping her foot or her wand. Sadly … those weren’t noises the Professors at Ilvermorny appreciated. She earned a few detentions from it … not because she was a bad girl or anything, but because of her constant need to do something.
Thankfully, it didn’t take her long to learn her lesson. After the second detention, Devon switched her behavior to actions less distracting … or at least ones that didn’t make much noise. She often played with her hair, the chains of her necklace, her earrings, or the straps of her sandals. Anything to not make noise and cause discomfort to those around her. Even without the detentions, she was well aware that she was bothering her classmates … and it honestly wasn’t her intention.
For now, Devon held the plate of snacks in her hands, which helped reduce her need … er, really desire … to start fiddling around. It helped her realize the need for wait time. The need to wait for when her conversation partner was comfortable to talk … in this case, Isadora. After all, she wanted to get to know her better and maybe become friends. But she also didn’t want to step on the girl’s toes and make a mess. She was far from a bull in a china closet, but she needed to respect boundaries.
With her question to dance, Devon was optimistic. She personally liked interacting with Isadora and hoped the feeling was mutual. While she had no idea what the other girl was thinking, she certainly hoped her friendliness helped. The sudden appearance of another person, however, dimmed her optimism. This boy also wanted to dance with Isadora.
It was not lost on Devon that Isadora was cute and pretty. This boy also appeared to be handsome. She didn’t doubt in the slightest that they enjoyed each other’s company. But she was also well aware of the lackluster greeting given to her. It was almost like an afterthought. ‘Three times tonight? Goodness, I’d be better off staying at the Ilvermorny tent feeling sorry for myself,’ she observed.
“I’m Devon. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Matthew,” Devon replied. She wasn’t one to be rude … even if the greeting was minimal at best. It was quite clear that he was there for Isadora only. Could she blame him? No, of course not. Regardless, it made her wonder what exactly it was that she was doing wrong?
When Isadora apologized to her and accepted Matthew’s offer to dance, Devon quickly hid her disappointment with a bright smile … like always. She rarely showed it when she was angry or disappointed. Rather, she tried her best to remain calm, cool, and collected. Of course, there was only so much she could do when it kept happening. Three times now! Three times tonight, a cute girl disengaged from her.
The first time happened with just a wave. The second time happened because of her No-Maj background, and now this time, a boy was taking her to dance instead. At the very least, it was the least insulting reason.
With her bright smile, Devon nodded. “Ok, Isadora. Have fun,” she replied cheerfully. After watching Isadora walk off with Matthew, she left the plate with the food she was intending to eat at the table and walked to a planter with sunflowers in it. She plucked a bright one out, gently weaving the stem between her delicate fingers.Reducio

~ ✩✩✩ ~ ✩✩✩ ~ ✩✩✩ ~ ✩✩✩ ~Garden of Eden, Hogwarts GroundsIC Date: Evening, April 11, 2025Japanese - English - ThoughtsInteractions openXXXHikari seemed to be expecting Akari's usual barrage of questions, which he supposed was now just a trademark of his. He answered rather mildly, in short sentences. "The pastries are just variations of each other," Akari grinned. "Same pastry, different fillings. If they had selections of every fruit filling possible, the table would need to be a lot bigger... and I can't say kiwi filling sounds anywhere close to appealing." He frowned, imagining biting into a crispy, fluffy pastry and then meeting the tart flavor of those fuzzy things. That was not a good thought.
XXX"Haven't danced with anyone. You already knew that." Hikari looked at him. Akari chuckled, trying to ignore the chilliness. Interestingly, some people were still dancing. Good outfit planning. I mean, Scotland is quite cold... I should have expected this. "Okay, maybe I did. I'm checking just in case, though! Who knows? Maybe you've found someone you like," he teased slyly.
XXX"Hmm, really?" Akari looked down at the drink in his hand, having heard Hikari's mutter after he returned. "This seems fairly normal. Delightful, too. Surely you're not intimidated by a drink." He took another sip, savoring the way it fizzed in his mouth. The other boy was eyeing the drink suspiciously. "Do you want to try some?" He suggested, holding out the glass. "It might ease your, uh, worries."
XXXSome of the Hogwarts students were clustering closer together, drawing and lighting their wands and looking around. The cold air was penetrating his sleeves now, and Akari shivered, hugging himself. He had not planned for a sudden shift in temperature, and his outfit was 70% decorative rather than useful clothing. "Perhaps we should ask them what this is about," Akari murmured, glancing towards the group. It seemed that the writing on the card was not, in fact, a nice suggestion for warmth, but an ominous message. He drew his wand as well, glancing towards the forest. It seemed the most likely place that danger could emerge from, as one of the other students was literally standing on the table to cast Lumos towards the darker areas of the garden. And-- was that boy climbing a tree?? That seemed rather unnecessary to Akari.

Hikari shook his head, scanning the colorful assortment of sweets on the tables. Each passing second seemed to drain the food section of whatever appeal it once had, and he tore his eyes away from the less-than-pleasant display, "It's a matter of lack of skill, not space," he muttered. After all, they lived in a magical world. Space, of all things, was rarely the problem.
He shot his friend an unimpressed look, something along the lines of I'm not falling for that, before replying, "Not intimidated. Don't want to get a stomachache." My father would never forgive me. Still, he picked up a cup from the table, sparkling green fluid catching eagerly in the light, and took a careful sip. It was tangy, way too enthusiastic on the tongue, and left a fizz which lingered longer than necessary. His expression didn't change, but mentally, he filed it under, wouldn't voluntarily have another.
When Akari offered him his drink— enthusiatic, like a test subject sharing his latest discovery, he swatted his hand away, flashing him a look he hoped did not read embarrassed. Trust Akari to offer something he's already drunk from. He imagined his father's scolding expression and suppressed a sigh, That's an indirect kiss. Okay, I've read too many books.
The boy had already moved on, gravitating towards the tables, where some students had drawn their wands and cast lumos towards the forest. Hikari ran a hand over his hair, hoping his Metamorphmagus hadn't betrayed his emotions before following closely, keeping a hold on his wand, the weight a comfort against the unseen danger which may be present. He slowed as he spotted a humanoid sillhouette against a tree, and for a moment he just stared, lips pressed into a thin line before clicking his tongue in quiet disapproval. How ridiculous.
