2024/2025, Stage 3 Hufflepuff vs Slytherin: Match 3

Jake HOPED his team was doing ok, but it was kind of hard to tell amongst the fog. That was one of the worst parts about dueling. Not only did it make it hard to aim, it made it hard to even tell what was going on with your team! Jake was lucky enough to not be IN the fog, but his team-mates were not, and he just wasn't sure what was going on over there. "You guys ok??" he called out, trying to squint through the fog (which was hard to do when you had to be aware of any incoming spells at the same tiem)

This round had reminded Raizel how the tide changes so quickly in duels, how favors tend to shift from one team to another. While Ara was helping remove the blindfold around the only senior they have on their team, Hanako decided that it was a great time for redemption. His spell failed last time but that didn’t deter him from trying again. As always, Raizel anticipated the explosion that would follow after its cast but…

There was nothing. ‘Unbelievable.’ She thought with another round of disappointment. Hanako was probably the only 6th year that she knew who had failed to cast Confringo, twice at that. Should she make a comment about that? No. One thing that she wants is having a 6th year coming for her head for accidentally insulting them. Should she laugh? Definitely not. Instead, she just stood there with silent disappointment. At the same time, she does feel bad about that. Failing spells was something she could relate to and for her, that’s frustrating. Mahlioz seems to be having a problem of her own. She doesn’t know what happened there but it looked like her spell missed its mark. Slytherin wasn’t doing well this round.

This time was in Hufflepuff’s favor. Hades had driven the fog away from himself and Julian, clearing their views once more. With their vision back now, they were back to being formidable opponents. Jake sent out another Ventus towards Mahlioz again and Julian fired a Flipendo at her. It was common tactics to focus on one of your opponents, especially when you know they are the most vulnerable. Simply having advantage in numbers can help draw your team closer to that sweet victory.

You know what they say - there are no mistakes, only happy accident. He knew it wasn’t referring to duelling spells, but if that made Hanako feel better, that’s what he will believe. He took a deep breath, biting his lower lip for a moment as if restraining himself from chucking the wand off the stage. When ara pulled off the blindfold of him, he winced - temporarily blinded by the lights. “ No no, put it back on me. I'd prefer it on me through the rest of the duel. _{And maybe the rest of the month.}.” he muttered in sarcastic defeat, as if she was the one doing the mistake.

Mahlioz was taking hit after hit. It seemed the Hufflepuffs were taking the same strategy the Slytherins had at the beginning, only aiming for one person, which was smart but really annoying when you were on the receiving end. And even worse, not a single person on her own team had managed to get a spell to hit. Actually, she hadn't seen any spells at all from her team other than her own.

Ah, it made more sense when she looked at her teammates. Ara had taken off Hanako's blindfold, because while that was the obvious thing to do, he seemed to have decided against it and tried yet another spell that utterly failed. Well, she couldn't necessarily blame him - if he had that confidence, it must have worked out for him sometime in the past, right? Though she was slightly worried what Ara was going to say to him, what with their constant bickering.

With a fog covering his entire field of vision, his goal was to dispel the mist by casting a spell, putting all his concentration on it. He managed to cast the spell, a light came out of his wand, and seconds after casting the spell, he could notice as his field of vision changed it, the fog slowly dissipating. Now he could see his teammates and rivals.

After his turn, it was the turn of other people. He had a feeling that some people on the other team were trying to show no mercy. First was Hanako, who tried to hit him with Confringo but failed - making Hades smile petulantly. The smile was still there when Mahlioz tried to use the spell on him, having managed to cast it, but not having hit him.

She was so sick of this retirement home escapee. "It was embarrassing for ALL of them at this point. Ara took the blindfold off the pathetic expired human.

No smoke, no sizzle—just a sad flicker and a pathetic puff of air like the wand was coughing. Coughing. Was his wand also ready to retire? Did it want to die with him?

“Chikushō” She mumbled upon seeing yet another failed Confringo.

And then—slap. Not a violent one, but a precise little thwack of cloth to the back of the expired human's head, with tge blindfold still in her grip. “You thought it would look cool, huh?” she said flatly, not even waiting for him to answer. “Uzai.” she mumbled again. Her tone wasn’t angry so much as exhausted—like a babysitter who’d given up after the third fire in the kitchen.

She bent slightly, squinting at him, unamused. “Were you trying to cast a spell or flirt with the fog?”

With the fog gone, Jake was finally able to take stock of the battlefield. It looked like things were going pretty well. His team seemed like they were still strong, which was good, since you never knew what was happening when you couldn't see. Nobody was targeting him at the moment, which meant he had time to slow down and think. He nodded in thanks at Hades for dispelling the fog, and held his wand aloft. Mahlioz had taken some damage but he was still standing. Hanako had taken off his blindfold. With everybody in play now, he had a feeling things were about to get intense. He steeled himself, and breathed in. He had worked on staying calm during duels, and while it was easier when your opponents were younger, you never knew what they were going to throw at you. You ALWAYS had to be ready.

Last round, Slytherin was having a hard time with spells failing and missing. This time, it was the Hufflepuff’s turn to suffer from misses with Jake being the only one to get a direct hit in on Mahlioz, the badgers’ favorite target. Who could blame them? She was the only one who wasn't looking great, not close to falling unconscious but had taken a lot of damage already and if Hades’ and Julian’s spell didn't miss her, she would've been carried off to the Hospital Wing by now to get treated. Fortunately for her, she gets to live to see another round spell exchange. Hanako had his own contribution to her survival. After failing two Confringos and perhaps thinking that it was about time to stop trying to try and act cool with his attempts at casting a strong spell, he had decided to heal Mahlioz.

That's more useful than what he had done earlier. Okay, that was a bit harsh of a remark but at least it was something that Raizel only let to linger in her mind instead of saying it out loud. In any case, that Reparifors worked wonders but Jake’s Flipendo still looked like it did damage on Mahlioz. It looked powerful and even the impact sounded powerful with that loud thud sound when it hit the Slytherin. Julian's spell, while it missed its initial target, the blast from it was enough to disrupt and surprise the other two Slytherin duellists. On the Slytherin side, Ara’s spell, an Incendio Duo, had engulfed Hades in green flames while setting his clothes on fire. “Ooooo, that's gotta sting.” Raizel muttered while eyeing the burning clothes left by the flame.
