The other girl asked if he was afraid of being hit, and Jake managed to nod his head shakily. Perhaps if it was only one balloon, Jake would have felt a little more sure that they weren't going to hurt him, but having so many flying around at once was overwhelming for a boy that had never played with a large group of children before. There was a lot going on at once. He hoped she was right about the hiding spot...

Jake had gotten used to talking to his bunkmate, but getting used to talking to strangers was another thing entirely (even if, she too, had once been a stranger). He looked at her, unsure of what to think, and feeling that nervousness inside whenever another kid met his eyes. But this girl seemed nice, and her voice was gentle, and it drew an answer out of Jake, who turned to face her, and stared at her hand.

"Um, I-Im Jake," the small boy murmured. "I didn't go to school yet...s-so...I'm gonna to be a first year," he said. He looked at her outstretched hand for a moment before doing anything. Jake didn't shake hands very much. Still, he hesitantly held out his own hand and awkwardly squeezed hers lightly. He only had one question. "Um...what's a Hufflepuff...?"

Thora cringed slightly as a splash and a squeal told her her balloon had hit someone. Well, hopefully they were okay... Taking a couple deep breaths behind her haystack, she peered around. And gulped. Another girl had thrown a balloon into a professor. Since the redhead recalled seeing the girl before somewhere, she guessed she was a second year? Or maybe a third year? The Slytherin had never been too good at predicting ages. And the professor? She definitely hadn't been in his class before, or she would've known. The professor's wild, lion's mane-like hair was definitely memorable.

A light whistle in the air alerted the young girl to another balloon. Coming her way. Squealing under her breath, Thora darted away to hide behind another haystack. Hoping she wouldn't get hit, the girl blindly sprinted to the nearest haystack. Good thing it had a stock of water balloons. Glancing around, pale eyes noticed no movement. Although the setup for the game was highly noticeable and across a huge stretch of grass, it seemed that only a handful of students had decided to play. Well, that was sad. Searching for the girl who was eying her, she picked up a bright pink water balloon and tossed it her way.

A water balloon hit him in the side of the head, soaking his hair, his coat, going down his shirt, and getting in his face. To make matter worse, he hadn't had time to flinch, and it had gotten in his eyes as well. How did a single water balloon have that much water, anyway? Spluttering, he opened his eyes just in time to see Ms. Towers duck behind a haybale. If that wasn't guilty party material, he wasn't sure what was.

Griffith had a few options, and the one foremost on his mind was to yell, shut this down and be done with all of it. He didn't get hired to like kids, or play with them. He got hired to teach. But he didn't have it in him, anger sounding hollow, even to the professor. He knew that Serena, at least, wasn't exactly in a fabulous place. He wouldn't make that any worse for her, he couldn't. He could only hope that none of the other professors were close by. Closing his eyes, mentally steeling himself, griffith smiled, grabbed a water balloon, and looked around to take stock of his surroundings. A second year slytherin who had just thrown a water balloon at where he assumed serena was seemed like a likely target.

Griffith reached to his side with his free hand, grabbed a large bale of hay, and heaved it more towards the center of the field. It only took him three long strides to reach the bale and climb on top, placing himself high up, an obvious target to be sure, but it also meant he could look down over top of most of the other bales of hay. With a cry of

"Have at thee"

He tossed a balloon towards the red haired slytherin. He didn't really want to be having a water balloon fight, but he didn't want to ruin the little event either. He would participate, at least until it was done and he could get his hay back.

Serena aimed her water balloon at Thora but unfortunately for her, the heard the whistle of the balloon and dodged out of the way. Whoops. Serena dodged behind a haystack, hiding behind it but Thora spotted her. The younger girl managed to get her revenge as she threw a water balloon over the haystack. It hit Serena on the head, bursting all over her.  Jake was safe this round, though his companion had gotten hit next to him. He was luckily far enough away that the water did not hit him.

Thora could not celebrate, however. Whilst she had successfully managed to dodge Serena's water balloon and hit her back, she was distracted and did not spot Griffith's balloon, that hit her square on the right arm, bursting and soaking her clothing.  The Professor had managed to get into the spirit of the game, despite originally being irritated by it! Oh how the tables have turned.

Serena smiled softly at the young boy, who appeared to be new to Hogwarts. He said he would start in September. She could not help but feel like she sort of understood how he felt. Not to the same level, by any means. But coming to Hogwarts was quite overwhelming at first. She absolutely loved the thrill and excitement of it but the castle itself was quite large - and very easy to get lost in. Since he was new, he probably had not actually been in the castle yet. Most of the summer camp activities took place outside, including the residence. Yet, it could still be quite a bit to take on. "Hi Jake, nice to meet you," She replied with a warm smile on her face as she put her hand out for a handshake.

He questioned what a Hufflepuff was, which surprised her a little. But after a moment, she realised that he might have been a muggleborn. Serena knew everything she could about the houses long before she had joined. Her mother had insisted she would make a fine Slytherin but it seemed that the hat disagreed. "Hufflepuff is one of the four houses here at Hogwarts. You get sorted into one of them when you first start. In your case, in September. It's a gr-" She started her explanation, about to go fully indepth on the subject and tell him everything that he needed to know about the best house ever.

But she stopped abruptly as a water balloon burst on her head. Welp. It appeared the hiding spot was not as secure as she would have hoped. That would not have helped to calm Jake's nerves at all. Luckily, he seemed to be dry but she knew it would not help him, "Come on, let's get out of here." She replied as she offered her hand, "I know can see an escape". If he accepted, she would quickly pull him out of the arena by ducking behind some haystacks, pulling him far away from the water balloons so they could actually talk.

Thora grinned slightly cheekily as her water balloon hit the older Hufflepuff. Finally, she could get her revenge. She watched, peering out from her hiding spot as the Hufflepuff dragged a younger boy away, out of anyone's line of fire. Oops, I hope I didn't get her too wet or something... Thora thought. Well, she could give her the benefit of the doubt.

The young Slytherin was out in the open for too long, apparently. A wet splat on her arm told her someone had thrown a water balloon at her. Scanning the haystacks, she couldn't see anyone. Had everyone left? And then she saw Griffith (was that his name?) again. He was the Care of Magical Creatures teacher or something--she had seen him at meals, but had never met him--and was perched on top of a haystack. Something told Thora it was him. Honestly, Thora didn't really mind getting wet. She kind of wanted to, seeing how horribly hot it was right now. But on the clothes was not preferred...

The Slytherin wrung out her shirt sleeve as she moved behind another haystack, picking up a blue water balloon. Too bad she couldn't throw too far... Or could she? Not knowing whether she would make it or not, Thora wound up her arm and threw the water balloon as far as she could in the scary professor's direction. Then, she crouched behind her haystack, pale eyes open for any more balloons coming her way.
