Mahlioz was back on the duelling piste, and back with Ara Villa and Hanako Tone. She wasn't sure how to feel about the fact that they were once again paired against much higher years. It was even worse than last time, actually - two sixth years and a fifth instead of a fourth, like Kim had been. The Slytherin was confused as to how this was allowed to happen.

But there was nothing they could do about it now. They were just going to have to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. They waved with a grin at Ara and Hanako as a greeting. At least if she was going down, she would be going down with people she was familiar with. She could absolutely trust that they would have her back in this duel, and her theirs, for as long as they could.

Maybe he really should’ve poisoned that cake yesterday. Really would’ve saved him from standing here and embarrassing himself. But hey.. Oddly enough he felt a lot more at peace. Was it because he ended up not hosting a party no one attended in the end? Or had he anticipated the storm enough that he was calm even during said storm? Maybe because he had already gone through this with the same group of people? Same people who continuously called him grandpa, as if they didn’t have three other duelists way older than him. But he supposed they sort of grew on him. Even if he knew it was highly unlikely either of them would it.

“Yeah yeah” he waved off Mahlioz’s friendly…ness. “If you want to spare us time, one of you better forfeit yourself. I’ve already done it last time, I’m not doing it againnn~” he shrugged with his usual lighthearted tone.

Even if he liked them a little more than the first stage, didn’t mean he was going to start acting nice. His period of being a possessed friendly host has expired already since the viridian viper party ended.

Aww great. Not again...! This was the second duel in a row where Jake, Julian, and Hades were paired against younger duelists. He had felt quite a bit like a bully last time, and while at least there were no second years this time, the last thing Jake wanted was to get some kind of reputation for picking on younger kids in duels. Victory didn't feel so sweet when you were facing off against somebody years younger than you were, though Jake knew that some duelists were great from even a young age.

At least this time Hanako was on their team too. Once, Jake had been uncomfortable dueling Hanako. The Slytherin boy had been a flirting machine back in THOSE days. Lately, from what Jake had seen, Hanako had seemed to calm down quite a lot. Even if he HADN'T, Jake would have been a bit relieved to see him on the team - at least there was somebody his own age to face off with. He waved to the other team regardless, not wanting to show his discomfort (After all, he didn't want them to think he was taking them lightly) while also not wanting to look too eager to start casting at them.

Hades was not surprised to see that this time they had some young rivals, beginning to question whether they had been selected for any reason. The last duel left a bittersweet taste in his mouth, he had won but it was not as satisfying as he had come to expect, since they were second year. And now he had to deal with a couple of third-years.

He arrived at the stage where Julian and Jake were, who seemed to have become his dueling partners “We’ll have to make a hang-out sometime, huh?” commented with a smile, looking now at his Slytherin rivals, eyeing the obvious difference. He pressed both fingers against his eyes, and was ready to start. His fingers were playing with the wand.

"Eh, I would probably forfeit now if I had a chance..." she replied to the decomposing body beside her while looking across the piste.

Ara wasn't exactly in her most energetic mood today but it'd be better to just forfeit than fight a match that would ultimately result in their loss either way. Perhaps this was one of those matches? Two 6th years and a fifth year against a sixth year and two thirdies? Oh come on. This was honestly worse than last time.

The Slytherin looked at her opponents: Mr. Basic, a bobblehead, and a twink. Sure, they're not that bad appearance-wise, but they sure are quite decent duelists from what she can recall. She pinched herself to wake up, her slim eyes opening a bit more. "Afternoon, Evethisawe and old geezer," she said promptly.

She slightly side-eyed the fossil because they acted kinda weird the night before at the party. (the rp post there is coming in a day or two). "Well you're quite jolly today," she said to her grinning teammate before cracking her wrist then the rest of her fingers individually.

12:30 - 13:30 on Sunday, 3rd of May, 2025...

When the duel started, all the duellists on the piste didn’t waste any time to fire off spells after spells, with the Slytherin aiming for one person alone, perhaps hoping that by focusing on one target would help cripple the Hufflepuff team or perhaps they have a grudge on Hades which is… not entirely impossible. The said Hufflepuff sure wasn’t having the time of his life with all spells aimed at him successfully hitting him.

Hanako’s Nebulus enshrouded not only Hades but Julian as well. Hindering the sight of your opponents is a good strategy in any game that relies on your eyes and aim. But the worst part has yet to come. Simply not being able to see clearly wasn’t enough for the snakes. Oh no, they had to cripple him more. Ara’s disarming charm added more to his suffering, rendering him unarmed with his wand flying out of his hand. To add more to that suffering, a cracker jinx was fired and while Jake was safe, Julian wasn’t.

The Hufflepuff team had a similar strategy considering their choice of spells. Again, in a game where you rely on sight and aiming, rendering your opponents blind could give you an advantage. With that said, blindfolds wrapped around Hanako’s and Mahlioz’s head, covering their eyes and unless they removed that, they are gonna have a bad time. It was only Hades’ spell that didn’t hit which is enough to say that this isn’t his day. “Unlucky.” Raizel uttered. “Amazing feat by Slytherin though.” You gotta give them credit for that amazing execution of spells, especially against these older students.

Seeing Jake wave at them, Hanako’s face visibly softened for a moment just to sigh and wave back weakly. He noted Piritchards polite nod, which Hana didn’t return. Hana had been in dueling long enough to have faced these same people a couple of times already. Jake was just a tinier bit special for .. .well - being typical Jake Morris. Not that it really meant he disliked Pritchard - especially since he had at least one win over the younger boy. But mainly because the hufflepuffs other teammate decided to suggest.. .. something about Hanging out with his teammates? Meanwhile the Slytherins were talking about forfeiting?! Urgh- The audacity to smile right now! There were truly worse people to be annoyed by than Pritchard.

“And who said that? Did someone threaten you not to do it now?” Hanako let out a light laugh, shaking his head. “ Well, a good mood is a good charm. Someone needs to carry the team’s visuals when you always come in looking that tired, silly. ”.

Neither of her teammates seemed to entirely reciprocate Mahlioz's happiness to be here with them, which was... fair. The third year wasn't even sure why she was all that happy in the first place, considering how this match was very very probably going to go. But they were glad to be here, and while both Hanako and Ara seemed to have rather different personalities to Mahlioz themselves, the two had grown on her.

And it seemed Mahlioz's cheerfulness had some sort of effect (or at least, they decided to believe that) with the duelling gods all hail tatsu, because amazingly, the round was not terrible. Not only did her spell hit, but it also did radius damage to a second one of the Hufflepuffs, and while it was difficult to make out every bit of magic that was flying, it turned out that all three sneks' spells managed to hit. That was all Mahlioz was able to discern before she was suddenly blinded. Ah, great, Obscuro. A slightly bitersweet ending, but the first round had gone decently nonetheless, and she wasn't going to let this get her down.
