The fires died, and Fabian saw the creature. It was still hungry, of course, its hunger was never truly satiated. Even if it had succeeded against the students, God forbid, it would not rest until the forest held no more prey for it. The girls hugged, catching their breath. He was reminded of Elise and Ildi for a moment, but just a moment for he forced the fleeting bitterness out of his mind. He had a job to do.

"Of course, rest," he answered Kaya, staring out at the forest for a few beats longer. A wordless cast of the healing spell in both of their directions would ensure their injuries were lessened at least, if not eradicated.

When they had recovered sufficiently, stern hazel eyes would scrutinize them for a moment more, then spare a glance to the forest before he said, "You girls are very lucky tonight. Come. We will go to the nurse, and then you two will go to your dormitories." Fabian would ensure Kaya and Amber went, having them walk ahead of him to ensure if any forest creature decided to risk venturing on the castle grounds they would find him first.

Before they re-entered the castle, the group would stop, and Fabian would look to them once more with stern eye. "I trust this experience to have discouraged you from repeating this stunt. If there is a next time, it is very likely one or both of you will not make it back." It was the truth. The inhabitants of the forest were merciless, chaotic, violent creatures of the dark. "There will be no detention served, and this is the last I will speak to you of it. Unless, of course, you wish to discuss. My office is open." With that, they entered the castle and Fabian entrusted the girls to the nurse, heading back up to his quarters and drafted up an emergency meeting announcement to be sent to all the staff tomorrow morning- or at a respectable hour of this morning.

Amber smiled to Kaya relieved they were both safe. "I was scared too." she whispered. At least now she could breathe. As Amber collapsed on to the ground, finally feeling safe after a long long night, she found herself attracted to this bright, and huge gem on the ground. Flashes of color filled her eyesight and she was confused what it was for a second. Then she realized it wasn't really a gem. It was glass.
Once she had recovered, she crawled over to the gem, no, piece of colored glass and picked it up, being careful not to cut herself with it. She slipped it into her pocket and the two girls headed back to the castle to finally rest.
Amber said nothing as the headmaster scolded them and told them that they needed to be more careful. She knew that. She knew it very well. This was why she had meant to come out here alone. Although she was ever grateful that she hadn't. She just nodded her head sincerely and tried her best to be grateful.
The only thing she couldn't promise was that this would not happen again. She was actually quite sure it would. It was inevitable after all. The monster came in her dreams and urged her towards the forest. She hoped that now that she had seen the monster and escaped it, she would no longer be afraid of it. The chances of that were slim however.
She didn't mention the glass to the headmaster, she would only mention it to Kaya when they were back in their dormitories. They were sent first to the nurse where they were bandaged up and then escorted to their rooms where they could finally talk in peace. Although she wasn't sure either one of them wanted to talk quite yet.
So she didn't talk. She silently placed the piece of glass on the table in front of Kaya and her and left it there. Left it so the two of them could stare at it. It was magical. And it was clearly something. What it meant, and why it was there for the two of them to pick it up was a question she had. And she was sure Kaya was wondering the same.
Throat hoarse and dry from screaming and from the pain, she cleared her throat after glugging some water. She then said, "I found it on the ground. I figured it was meant for us, but I didn;'t want to say anything back then."
She left it at that. She was pretty sure they had a lot to talk about. Like why both of them went into the forest in the first place and maybe she owed Kaya an explanation about her dreams. And about why she had been so moody recently. Maybe this adventure, or scary scary journey, whatever they wanted to call it, could make their friendship stronger. And make the two of them stronger in the process.

Calming Presence is in affect
Affected by it: Amber Frost Hart

Kaya kept her eyes on Amber as if nothing else mattered. Realizing how close she was to losing her bestie, perhaps it was true. She sighed, relieved to hear Amber.

Something else caught her attention. Kaya thought she noticed Amber picking up something from the ground. Whatever that thing was, they could talk about it later. Listening to the headmaster, Kaya stayed quiet. Except for a quiet thank you. He came to help, and they were indeed lucky to be able to escape today. But she knew better than to promise something she wouldn't do. She glanced at Amber and thought it could be the same for her bestie.

Even this dangerous experience wouldn't stop the adventurous nature of her soul. It just meant she had to be more prepared. More than just a wand. Her spells knowledge also wasn't enough, so she had to learn more before coming back. But one thing she was certain about. She absolutely will come here again.

The way to the castle was safe. She knew he was behind them. Perhaps to be sure they didn't decide to go back to the forest. Or to make sure nothing else would try to attack them. Either way, she felt safe.

After visiting the nurse, they went back to their room. For some time she didn't know what to say. Should she start with how happy she is that Amber is alive? Or should it be questioning why she went there alone? Her thoughts were distracted by something Amber put for them to look at. A gem? She was relatively certain it wasn't there before she entered the forest. Who left it there? Maybe it all was connected in some way. But before she finally spoke, Kaya took her bottle of water and drank. So much happened in these couple of hours. That's interesting. I don't think I saw it before entering the forest. She stared at it a little more before continuing to speak quietly. Just enough for Amber to hear. It must be connected. Are we going back some other day? I was going to offer to prepare better. I don't want to have to call someone to save us, and I don't want to lose you. Please, never choose to give up. I need you, bestie. There was emotion in her breaking voice. Was it a fear of losing Amber? Most probably. She was forced to just look at her getting injured. She was forced to seemingly find her bestie looking like she was about to give up. And the worst of all was the fact that she couldn't do much to protect them. Another scary thought entered her tired mind. What if Kaya didn't decide to go to the forest? What if she stayed in the room, just choosing to sleep? Take me with you if you are going to go there again, please. No accusations. No trying to stop Amber and herself from going back to the forest. They were alive. That was enough. I suppose we need to talk about a lot of things. Why we were in the forest, about all that happened. But right now I am just happy we survived. Can we just rest and talk about everything after resting? This gem, let's hide it so it stays just between us. No one else needs to know about it. She spoke quietly. Taking out some muffins, she offered them to Amber. You can eat it with me if you want. If you need to talk about anything now, I am here for you.
