Eclipse
I see you there, staring at me from within
your mirror dimension of flickering lights,
black shadows cast with the windows shut
and doors barred with nails behind you.
The makings of a prison I made long ago,
to keep you where you belong - restrained.
I didn’t come to insult you like yesterday,
or to slam my fist at your reflection like
the day before, or the day before then.
I came bearing no fist, no weak object
to hurl into your impenetrable face.
I came to set you free, to see your way.
You don’t hide under my footsteps to
watch me burn under the weight of
ambition or cry when the lights go out
as I slug through banes of imperfection.
Instead you silently watch over me,
manifesting the worst of me. Who knew.
I see now why you exist in the mirror,
why you say nothing when I scream hate
into my every image where you appear.
You grow bigger not to intimidate me.
Your power increases not to punish me.
Tethered to me so I learn not to fear.
I am not the saint sent from Heaven.
I am not one of the selfless disciples.
I am not Satan’s child born from Hell.
I made mistakes and I’ll make more.
I have been made perfectly flawed.
No longer will you be held in contempt.
We will plough through this together.
We will share our burdens together.
We will not be possessed by each other.
We are no longer victims of each other.
We are two sides of the same coin,
day and night intertwined forever.

I hope it's neither too cliché or abstract. I wanted to try and convey the argument that our "darker selves" are necessary for growth and understanding. They aren't inherently bad, but how it's important to take them into account for balance
