Twisted Tavern
At first glance, the Tavern seems the same to any others described in a fantasy book. The lights in the room are well-lit, the fireplace is burning bright, and the drinks behind the bar are plentiful, all that's missing are the patrons. The lack of other people gives the room an almost eerie atmosphere, this isn't how it's supposed to be like. As you walk in you get a better look at the tavern. The stage in the corner is left empty except for the lute leaning against the stool in the centre, as if it is waiting for a performer. Oddly enough, if you look closely at the lute there seems to be pieces of something behind it. All the tables in the room are empty but one, if you look to your left as you enter, you see some drinks - potions- on that table, multiple potions of varying colours. If you look at the bar, there is an old fashioned gramophone on the end of it, but unfortunately no records for it to play, continuing the tavern's empty atmosphere.
Once everyone enters the tavern the door you all entered in slams shut behind you, and a "click" signally how it has been locked. One of the only clues you have toward how to escape is a old brass combination lock, appearing to be nothing special, just a muggle style combination lock.
The other hint being the paper nailed around head height on the door, once someone opens it, it says:
We are in a favourite place for bards,
and I can be found in a pile of shards.
I’m in need of a quick repair,
and then I’ll be out of your hair.

Arriving in Hogwarts never really placed Sara in a position of discomfort before. But perhaps that was because who he had before everything just went wrong. The recent months have been better. Still, it did nothing to quell the discomfort that automatically latched onto his stomach like some sort of invisible unhealed wound at the thought of attending the ball. That was why Sara signed himself up for this event; Twisted Taverns.
He didn’t even know why he was here. Somehow attending an event he had no real confidence he could have fun in or even be useful in was better than going to the ball or staying in his room. He was not a fan of puzzles, and though familiar with the concept of escape rooms - had never really attended one. These sort of things, he felt you needed a few things. A sharp mind, a communicative spirit, and an enthusiastic attitude. None of these, he had. But you know what he does have? Desperation. One that fuelled him enough to tell himself that attending something new was ultimately better for him than staying stuck.
Entering the empty room made a breath of relief escape him. At least he could familiarise himself with his surroundings first. He inspected the note for a moment, before wandering around a little. His eyes scanning the various equipment, his eyes landing on the note on the doorway.
After slight hesitation, he easily picked it up. Taking the nail and placing it aside on a nearby table as he opened it. In the middle of reading the contents, he tensed, hearing someone else entering. “ ..Hi” he said, making himself lessen the grip on the note, hoping he didn’t look like he was just caught doing something bad. “ It’s .. just.. The clue.. I think.. Do you want to see?” he offered, his gruff tone sounding curt but soft. He extended the note if someone seemed interested.

Twisted Tavern

The decision to come to Hogwarts for the spring ball was not a pleasant discussion among the Souto family. After everything that happened last time, it was not with a light heart that Katsuro's parents allowed him to come. Specially knowing that one of their own had been involved in the incident. The Goto siblings competed and argued over almost everything, but no one would ever be forgotten or forgiven for messing with someone of the same name and blood. As if Katsuro had ever appreciated being compared or associated with her... of course she had to be involved in the decision of him coming or not coming to Scotland. She would torment and haunt his life forever, he was almost certain now, that was the sole purpose of her existence.
Thankfully for the young Luso-Japanese boy, his parents ended up seeing reason, and as a result, he was now walking himself towards the old castle's Small Hall. Dressed in his most elegant, medieval attire, a black velvet tunic with intricate gold detailing, Katsuro crossed the last corridor to the place where he would be attending the ball. But before he could appreciate anything else, his eyes caught the movement of a small shadow that strolled gracefully between the legs of the gathered crowd. It was just as the fluffy ebony furball came close to his feet that he could see the clever amber eyes of a cat. The little creature sniffed his shoes, looked at him, and then turned, continuing on its way down the hallway.
Why would Katsuro follow that cute thing? He wouldn't be able to explain it reasonably, but he did it anyway. Not that he would be expected anywhere else, so why not?
His steps took him towards what appeared to be an empty, silent tavern. Was solely when he crossed the threshold that he saw he was not the only one there, and his attention turned from the small cat to the person now in front of him. "Senpai." Katsuro greeted Sara, with a short, but polite nod. He recognised his upperclassman from all the times they crossed ways in their shared school. And like every other time, there was something magnetic about him, something he couldn't explain, but it certainly gave him a need to prove his worth, to make himself noticed.
Katsuro looked at the small piece of paper in Sara's hand, which was now held out to him. "Of course." He responded with a soft, quick smile. He read it to himself and contemplated its meaning, frowning slightly at the riddle he now held in his hands. "Do you...do you have any idea of what this means?" He asked looking back at Sara again.

"Ah..S-Souto-kun.." Sara greeted with slight bow when he managed to recall the boy's last name, at the very least. He recognised the other being in the broom racing sport in their school. Though he hadn't really properly talked to before. At least that's one thing that'll be new today. Despite the other boy being literal years younger than Sara, it was the silent - now slightly bigger- black cat that helped Sara find ease in his anxiety. After he handed the other boy the note, he lets out a breath of relief, he knelt down to pick up the cat gently. " Ah..I'm not too sure...". He adjusted the cat to rest comfortably in his arms and scratched the back of her ear. A rare calm smile on him, before looking at to Souto. " No.. not yet.. I haven't been able to look around the room properly yet.. We can .. um.. wait for others to arrive first..?"
"Though.. is it.. okay for her to be here? How did you find her?" Sara asked gently, the black cat still in his arms. " Um.. to .. be honest.. Souto-Kun.. I'm glad to see a familiar face here.. I was a little worried..you know about.. meeting too many new people through this game".
Feeling awkward leaving the conversation at that, he tried to think of another thing to say. "
Um.. you look really nice in your attire today, Souto-kun. Like um.. a prince charming".

Mikael was unsure of the reason behind Hogwarts' seemingly deluded obsession with continuing with these balls. It seemed as if every year, something would go horribly wrong, though a catastrophic free ball wasn't much better. It felt as if the English fools were more than willing to turn around and tempt their abysmal fate once again. However, maybe it was merely the Pyre had soured his attitude toward Hogwarts and its occupants. For ash tasted abysmal on the tongue.
As the boy walked into the Great Hall, he could not help the grimace that hung so stubbornly on his face. Body wound tight. It was crowded, it was the first thing he had noticed. Everyone decked out in fancy costumes, sipping punch, and talking fanatically in waves of noise. His grimace became more and more pained as he absentmindedly wondered where Valentin may be. The white-haired boy had been his lifeline in such environments, and without even thinking he looked through the crowd to search for the bright light.
And yet. Mikael could not bring himself to truly seek the other boy out. Dragging his gaze downward the boy looked at golden clasps that held his vest closed. Had he not tired the other one out begging for his attention like a common hound? Unable to function alone without his master nearby. How could he hold plausible ignorance towards the way he had gripped onto the other boy as if he was the only thing saving him from drowning? Though, had the other not held him with similar strength? The thought soured his tongue and he moved forward only by sheer will.
Maybe that was the true reason he had decided to come to the ball alone. Far from any want to enjoy himself, but to show Valentin that he could function well enough without him. Lest he wish to forever concern the other of his wellbeing. Yet, maybe a part of him was merely attempting to avoid the other. From what he had learned he was from bad stock, one that burned away the very nature of faith and devotion. ' I truly hope the stars did not judge her too harshly.' he thought in a careless tone. His eyes widened slightly as nausea came over him. Overpowering his every sense. Why of all times did he have to remember the most painful memories?
Mikael's gaze flicked upwards, scanning the many faces in the crowd. Eyes flitting from one face to the other, and an uncomfortable feeling brewed beneath his skin. Lighting every joint on fire with an unbearable urge to run. So many eyes. Acid rose and burned at the back of his throat. Did they know? Could they see the black mar of his soul laid bare before them? His mind screamed for the white-haired boy, his light, to whisk him away. Yet, he refused to give into his mind. The boy looked up seeing an escape, and the boy would quickly maneuver through the crowd to it. Gripping the door handle the boy would push his way into the Tavern.
His facial expression would melt into a blank one as he looked about the far more quiet room. The room was well-lit but was filled with a warm glow due to the fireplace. The lack of people settled his nerves as he pushed forward the noise of the Great Hall growing quieter and quieter. However, he could not shake that something felt somewhat off. It was a bit weird that with how tightly packed the Great Hall was this room would be almost completely void of other people, and yet the boy would ignore the deep pull in his gut. Walking in the boy would move to look at the table with multiple potions. Doing his best to avoid any eye contact with the few people in the room.
From a distance, Mikael would watch two boys talking to one another over a piece of paper. It seemed like the two knew one another. A small frown would rest stubbornly across his overall blank face as he wondered what he should do. The word 'clue' caught his attention, and his brow furrowed slightly as he opened his mouth to speak. "You all." he spoke curtly. Arms crossed together as he studied the group. "Why would there be a clue?" he spoke his accent thick. Mikael would look down toward the table of potions a frown on his face. Was this some form of English trickery?

"You just walked into a game," Jack told Mikael, having strolled into the tavern room behind him as a fox and emerged on the other side of the door threshold as a young man of the same age. "And now that you're here, there's no escape. At least not until you've solved the mystery of this room."
Puzzles. Riddles. Mysteries. Anything Jack could use to exercise his mind and show off his cleverness were things he enjoyed. Escape rooms were no different. But he had never expected to find himself in one at a ball at Hogwarts. Much less with a bunch of boys from various other international schools. The only one he knew who went to Hogwarts with him was a kid he had no love for - Draven Mirador. Then again, having stolen the kid's first kiss in front of Draven's (first?) crush, Jack maybe, just a little...might have slightly deserved being set on fire and suffering through the subsequent tea party detention as a server. Maybe.
There were a few others he was more or less vaguely familiar with. Enzo, the handsome-but-vindictive Beauxbatons boy who tried to attack him during the mistletoe event last summer. Sara, the anxious Mahoutokoro Quidditch beater who he had heard had done quite the number on his enemy beaters, but had a heart of gold. Even that Durmstrang fellow he'd seen around here and there, Mikael. Plus an Ilvermorny peer Jack didn't think he knew and another, albiet much younger kid from the Japanese school.
Well, one way or another, this was certain to prove interesting.
"Good evening, gentlemen," he greeted with a broad, mischievous grin, bowing dramatically to the three and to the room at large. "I hope it finds you well. Even if you might be here to escape from something out there...rather than this room itself."
Of the boys Jack knew, all of them were usually attached to another; at least while he saw them visiting Hogwarts students. Perhaps it was just something about being around more familiar schoolmates than foreigners, but they seemed to stick to them like glue.
Mikael, a player of Quidditch at his school, was usually seen with Valentin, the Durmstrang Quidditch Captain. Sara was usually with Ginyami, and they, two, were Quidditch players, but Jack knew that Quidditch was not the only common denominator the teens had. They had seemed almost detrimentally dependent on their companions with which they spent so much time. Perhaps they knew that, though, and that was why they were taking time away from said companions. Even Enzo, who Jack knew had seemed rather attached to Hanako, would not likely be finding time alone with the Japanese Slytherin that evening. After the last ball, when Hanako had seen Eun-ji with Pericles, he had asked Jack if he could have some alone-time to talk with Eun-ji and Jack had agreed. He doubted Hanako would do anyting too stupid; not in the mood he was in.
So far it seemed only Mikael, Sara, and Sara's underclassman from Mahoutokoro were there in attendance. Jack was glad to see that not only had Salami found Sara and that the latter seemed to be pleased by simply holding her, but that Sara also had someone from his own school who wasn't Ginyami to keep him company. Although the redhead didn't know the first year, he had a sharp look about him that the Welsh teen liked. He hoped to see just what he was capable of as they tried to solve the puzzle of the room together.
"'We are in a favourite place for bards...and I can be found in a pile of shards,'" he read the clue slowly over the smaller boy's shoulder as he came up to the pair of noirets. Then he looked up, hazel eyes darting toward the lute resting against the stool at the center of the corner stage and slowly walked over. There were pieces of something behind it and he wanted to know what. Plus, weren't bards known for singing and playing instruments, particularly lutes?
Picking up the lute, he tried to examine it and the pieces of whatever was behind it.

Here Enzo was, once again at a chaos event in the Scottish wizarding school. He had grown quite accustomed to these over the years and it now became more normal for him to be in attendance. He had to admit that this place was certainly not boring, there was always something up with this school, and Enzo rather liked to be front and center, privy to it.
Enzo meandered through the event looking for what would be the most entertaining thing to give his attention to as he found his way into a room that gave off an eerie vibe, that Enzo found himself drawn to. As he walked in he noticed others had already discovered it, and he was about to turn to exit as there was no need to be in such close proximity with people he did not know for no particular reason, when the door swiftly swung shut, the lock clicking informing Enzo he was now stuck with this group.
He rolled his eyes and groaned slightly as he turned back around looking at his surroundings in hopes of an escape. But to no avail he watched as the rest of the group began conversing about some stupid clue. Of course his wandering feet had to betray him, and now he was trapped unwillingly. Enzo walked over and sat down on one of the tavern chairs leaning back with his arms resting on the back of it, an indifferent and unamused facial expression ridden across his face.
"Nothing can be normal in this place can it" He grumbled.

This group seemed to be an overly cautious one, eyes firmly set on the prize, no matter how tediously they would investigate their surroundings. Mikael had stubbornly examined the potions by the entrance rather than first read the clue, but perhaps that had worked out in his favor. He soon realized that he recognized the two potions that were in abundance on the desk: The Wit-Sharpening Potion and Barfuffio’s Brain Elixir. While both theoretically had the same effect, one was a little more… variable, meaning his path of careful investigation was the correct one.
Jack and Enzo had instead marched directly over towards the lute, the main object in this tavern that seemed to point at the first line of the clue: for bards. Jack quickly made the discovery that the lute was just that: a completely normal, utterly useless lute. Theoretically, if one could play then it was indeed playable, if a bit out of tune.
The shards behind the lute were directly in Enzo’s line of sight. There were a good number of them to fixate one’s eye on, all scattered about a foot from where the impact had likely taken place. They were very much visible from the entrance, albeit hidden, but were now very clearly the pieces of something that had shattered on this very floor. It seemed Katsuro had moved to cast the mending charm on these mysterious shards, only to find that their wand had fizzled out, in their failure to cast the spell. Alas, perhaps someone else should give it a go.Group #2 players: Enzo Delcroix (@Akari Kato), Mikael Halldorson (@Percival Rainwood), @Jack Burnett, Theodore Duncain (@Opeila Winters), Sara Kohana (@Hanako Tone), Katsuro Souto (@Meyra Lancaster), @Draven Mirador.

At the new person entering (Mik), Sara shifted the cat in his arms to give a brief wave and was about to welcome them until they spoke. “H-hi…” The curtness in their tone made Sara lower his hand. Perhaps not the warmest introduction, but that was understandable since the other didn’t seem to understand what happened. The boy seemed like they were from another school, likely Dumstrang. Vaguely he recalled he might be one of many faces that tended to be around Schnell. The tinge of unease in his own chest at the thought, made him feel guilty. Even if they were close - it would be unfair..not to mention, it wasn't his right to judge. Sara’s thoughts on the white haired Dumstrang student were his own. Unrelated to this person, no matter how they may or may not be close. Sara highly doubted Schnell was the type to talk to others about what happened during their last ball, anyway. Even if he did, this person didn’t seem to care nor knew Sara. That at least, brought him some relief. Before he could muster up the confidence to answer, Jack came in and answered.
(Jack) Just when Sara thought he seemed to be the only one that joined the game not by accident, Burnett appeared with a rather… funny way of greeting everyone. Making a small smile quirk on Sara’s lips. That was a lot different than the previous person that entered the room. “ Good..evening, Burnett” Sara said, evidently pleased to find another familiar face. Sara’s relationship with the slytherin was ..interesting. They haven't known each other for very long, and yet their first meeting at a spin the bottle event was memorable. How could Sara forget the person that tried to jump in front of him to stop a spell from doing goddess what to Sara. Odd, since Sara thought that was what only close friends did, and yet this person seemed reluctant to call it friendship. After that, their encounters involved less spell work and more talk of cats. Maybe even about his ex. Come to think of it..he wasn’t told was he? Sara doubted this was the appropriate time to bring that up, not to mention .. not really relevant. So he focused instead on their current situation. “ Is… that why you joined? To um.. Escape something? I.. hope that wasn’t the case. Ah.. could you..maybe have been looking for this one?”, Sara gently placed Salami down to the floor.
It was then another somewhat familiar face joined. And it was… the same person that casted out the spell Burnett tried to save Sara from. What a.. Small world. And he didn’t seem all that different since last time. Perhaps a little taller now since the last time Sara saw him. Though considering he only said one sentence and proceeded to sit in one of the available chairs, Sara wasn’t sure if he even remembered him. Deciding against commenting on his arrival, but if their gaze met his specifically a second too long to be a coincidence, Sara would gave him a hesitant wave, signaling somewhat of a familiarity. Even if he never gave a name.
What an interesting group this was in the end.
Everyone had started to find the clues and Kazuo, Jack and that person went ahead to find work on a lute. Sara heard a familiar fizzle of a spell not working and tensed, wondering if he should help Katsuro. But decided he had Jack and the other older looking student to help if he needed. Instead Sara’s gaze and focus turned to the Dumstrang student. “ ….E-Excuse me.... Did you find something interesting with those potions?” Sara asked, his voice having its natural gruff despite the hesitant way he spoke.
