Come Fly With Me!

It was amazing how quickly a crowd formed at Hogwarts! Colin smiled and stood up on his broom, surfing along the stone parapet and circling the gathered students. Honestly, he could be lying dead somewhere and kids would gather around to watch! He greeted everyone that had showed up so far. Quite a few them had taken a dunk with him earlier that morning in the Boathouse! Of course, he was happy to see Slytherin's new racing captain. And KitKaits. There were a couple kids Colin didn't know --- one he reckoned wasn't even from Hogwarts! Even a couple older kids showed up!
He casually slid down into a seated position on his broom.
His best smile was for Emily! The scent of forest and earth and whatever weird creatures she was into this week alerted him to her presence. She poked his shoulder and greeted him. Somehow, Colin thought she probably wouldn't want to race or fly around. He narrowed his eyes affectionately as he looked her over. "Emmi!" He turned and gazed into her hazel eyes. She pointed to her nose and said she would sit this race out. Colin smirked. "Aww, Emmi! You remembered! I see ye brought yer broom lass! We'll have you racing in no time!"
Colin slid sideways over towards the older kids. ∏iérre was very well known to Colin. If Colin was chaos, Piérre was chaos's mentor. He sidled up close to the Gryffinclaw and gave him a smile. "A rematch you say?" This would be fun. "If ye can keep up!" Pi had so tragically been on the losing side of Slytherin's greatest comeback! "And you Salinger!" Colin was certainly no first year! And she was already shit talking! "I see you found yer way out of the cushy quidditch stadium! Ready to try a real broom sport then lass?" He held his finger and thumb up, about a centimetre apart. "In stead of messing about with wee golden trinkets? Try not to fly into the columns!"
They wanted a proper race, they'd get a proper race! "Nothing fancy, just weave through the columns of the arcade below and try not to crash; dash through the trees down below and try not to impale yourself on the branches; then the long straightaway to victory, and try not to knock too many kids off the side!!" He turned and winked at Emmi.
Colin smirked. This was going to be so much fun!

Roleplaying as Hans Jenssen
Hogwarts was finally speaking his language.
Still not literally, but once again, the bar was low as dirt. Hans, however, was stood far, far higher than dirt, on the viaduct bridge, the wind racing by his ears and the birds swirling beneath him. Perhaps one would deem it insensitive he was risking his life when so many had already been lost at the irresponsible hands of the school but in his defence, since the incident he had spent more time in the sky then ever. There was something about overlooking the world at superhuman speed, about hearing nothing but his thoughts and the winter gales, about having nothing more than the horizon in front of him, that, rather than provide the rush of adrenaline, calmed him. Yet unlike the many times he had rerun days through his mind amongst the clouds, for once, he should allow himself to forget.
As usual, breathing in the methodical way of a swimmer (or, well, ex-swimmer) calmed him. Prepared to throw everything behind him, at least for a day, Hans squared himself for the thrills to come.
Among the fray of mounting racers, one girl in particular stood out. Not like a sore thumb, but a finger adorned with one too many rings, of all different shapes, sizes, and colours. Hans, for one, had always been one for colour, despite the unpracticality of pigments. Having blatantly refused to even put on the black and white tuxedo set out for him over Christmas, it was under his insistence that he came into possession of brightly coloured, for burgundy could use more saturation in his books, red and gold suits. His grandfather was quick to learn and even quicker to approve of his demand to put his own unique spin on anything that happened to have landed in his hands. A signature, he had dubbed it, and if he had anything to say about the walking rainbow, she sure had a signature. Denim overalls haphazardly pulled over a shirt flecked with stars, with sleeves, and socks, and necklaces, and all other sorts of decorations representative of all the colours on a palette, she was the living carnation of Pollock’s canvas. A tad too much for his personal taste, but Hans would take that over another piece of drab pureblood attire any day.
“Hey!” He greeted, preparing his broom beside the colourful sparkle of a girl, who was holding her own eagerly, “That is a nice one. What position do you play?” Objectively, the broom was deemed not as good and certainly not as professional as his Silver Arrow, but fetching a much lower price on the market, it did its job well. He could hardly care either, for not only must everyone have humble belongings, her infectious enthusiasm was enough to make up for whatever the Nimbus 1000 lacked. A year ago he would have found overly fervent behaviour distracting but now it seemed to be simply endearing. Though once, desperately trying at maturity, he would have dismissed her nature for naïve and ignorant, to act childishly was perfectly appropriate for a child, Nikolai being a crude reminder of what was robbed from them. Keeping his hand casually at his side as he allowed expectations for the upcoming flight to overrun dwellings on the troubling happenings when he had last been at Hogwarts, “I’m Hans; what’s your name? I like your clothes, they’re more colourful than my language.” Perhaps a thought he ought not voiced, or perhaps one he ought to have voiced even louder, but as certain people would criticise, at least he was self aware.

✽Avery was ready. She knew that she wouldn't win the race. Especially up against Colin and others that were a lot more experienced at racing. To be honest, she wasn't the greatest at staying on brooms when it came to speed. Though, she finally had her own broom, so maybe things would be better? That's all Avery could hope. Her only plan was to finish the race without ending up in the hospital wing.
As Avery walked into the Viaduct. She was excited to see so many familiar faces. Especially one in particular. Her best friend. Lya. "Lya! I'm so glad you're here too! Are you excited to race?" Avery called out to her best friend as she gripped her broom tighter. There were a lot of people here. This was going to be quite the race. Especially since Avery had never raced before. Well, it would be good practice for her to dodge obstacles. It would really help in her first Quidditch match coming up soon.
Avery prepared for the race to begin and made sure her new broom was ready. She had just received the news that she was now on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, so, of course she had to get her own broom. She had been saving up for awhile and had managed to get a Nimbus 1001. It wasn't her dream broom, but it was still good enough to get her through some crazy stuff she knew she was about to face. She just hoped that she would be ready. ✽

Come Fly With Me!
The air was heavy with the scent of rain as Atlas soared in low from the direction of the castle, his robe billowed behind him like a banner in a storm and he rode the wind with easy expertise. His broom responded to every shift of weight as though it were an extension of his own will—Being in Quidditch team did teach him well especially when it comes to broom racing and he excelled in Flying class, which was no surprise.
As he mounted his Comet 180, he did not drop immediately. Rather he let his broom drift in a wide, arcing curve far above the Viaduct, surveying the line of ancient stone below—the arches towered up beneath him and the steep plunge to the ravine beyond beckoned him like a challenge. It had rained earlier and the stone was very much damp. Now the clouds were scattered, rays of sun speared the golden beams that illuminated strips of the wet stone bridge. When he scanned the area he noticed the students that had gathered in the area, most of them were familiar faces he had seen and have interacted with.
Atlas smirked.
With a gentle roll, the Slytherin boy leaned the broom into a steep fall, letting himself drop for a few thrilling seconds before tipping up just in time to glide level with a sweeping curve along the top of the parapet. His boots clicked softly on to the stone beneath his feet and with a heavy splat as he stepped down. He hooked the broom over one shoulder and took in the view and as he did, there were some familiar faces he encountered—some of the students he met them on a couple of occasions. Atlas nodded to one or two as a form of greeting and he kind of liked coming like this—inconspicuous yet impossible to miss.

♥♥♥ Xiomara walked around the grounds of Hogwarts aimlessly, wondering what to do. She enjoyed exploring but she did not have any specific purpose today. She was mostly just trying to find something to do or someone cool to hang out with - perhaps, run into some of the visitors from other schools and make a friend or two? She had no idea.
Donning a pair of colourful leggings, an oversized jumper and a pair of khaki coloured ankle boots, Xiomara strolled lazily around with her camera. It was a pretty nice day. She had spent the morning at the Boathouse. Things seemed a lot more chill this afternoon in comparison but a nice calming walk out in the quiet was probably exactly what she needed - some fresh air to calm her thoughts and help her to chill out after the chaotic swim earlier.
It was not until she reached the Viaduct, where she stopped and looked around. For some reason, there were tons of people there today. It appeared that some of them had their brooms as well! Now, Xiomara was not really a broom rider - mostly because she did not have one - outside of Flying Class but she was intrigued as to what was happening and why so many people were there with their brooms.
She would hazard a guess that they were not there to sweep - though that would definitely be an unexpected twist to this. Hogwart Students suddenly doing good and helping to keep the area clean? Now that would make a fancy Headliner article! It would certainly be news if students were willingly cleaning and not causing chaos. Amongst the chatter, she heard the odd person say something about a race and another about competition.
Several students had mounted their brooms! Xiomara blinked as she looked around, observed the area and then lifted her camera. Perhaps there would be something fun to capture today. She started to fiddle with the settings on the camera, adjusting the way it captured the light and adjusting the focus. Once she was ready, she looked around again to see if she could spot anyone actually flying around. She peered over the side of the viaduct, looking at the gorgeous views around. If she could capture the beautiful scenery or the castle in the background of the shots, that would make her day!
For now, she just prepared everything - ready for the opportunity, just in case someone did start flying around or gave the chance to capture a good photograph or two.

Thoughts
Jamie had been at Hogwarts for a few days now, and while she had been here a while back for another ball that was being hosted it was nice to not have been attacked exactly as they arrived.
One thing that had been slightly less nice was the weather, but having been living in Japan for a while now she had gotten used to copious amounts of rain so it didn't bother her as much any more.
Having decided to go out and see if there was anything worth seeing around the castle she had made her way over to the viaduct, having seen it a few times and noting the perfect place to practice some flying manoeuvrers. The arches of the bridge and the danger of the height creating perfect conditions for some practice.
As she neared it though she saw that quite a few people had already gathered, seemingly getting ready for some kind of event? Noting that one of the students had a camera out, so likely some kind of event that was being hosted. But as it had to do with flying it must be something good, it was rare that people could mess up a flying event, unless they made it really really boring, in which case Jamie would tactically leave maybe with a few hidden insults here and there. Nothing too obvious of course. Having brought her broom with her in case she found a great place to practice some flying she held onto it a bit tighter, knowing this was the perfect place.
Walking over to an older student she hoped they might know a bit more about what was going on and how she could join, she'd never say no to some proper flying practise.
"Hi! I see you guys are doing some flying event? Got space for one more?" She asked, her signature fake smile on her face, which usually got her what she wanted as she knew that they likely already had a full roster and seemed to be ready to go any minute now.

♥♥♥ "Excuse me - hi, did you just say you're planning on flying?" She rushed forward as she heard a student that she did not recognise mention flying and asking if there was space for her. She had no idea what was going on but Xiomara was interested in finding out, "Oh, hi, sorry, I'm Xiomara. I don't think we've met but I take photos and write for the school newspaper. I was just wondering if I could have a chat with you? Wait, is that your own broom? What kind of broom is that?" She asked, rambling on as every single thought that entered her brain escaped her lips.
She had no idea if the other girl's broom was her own or what type it was. It looked very fancy and expensive but Xiomara could not tell what was a Firebolt and what was a Starsweeper. It was clear that the Ravenclaw did not own her own broom nor did she have one on her right now. Maybe there were some spare ones around, Xiomara had no idea. But she was intrigued and quickly put on her reporter mindset as she jumped in to try and get some answers. At least, she was hoping the other girl knew what was happening.
It would be kind of cool if Xiomara could score some interviews or something. Wait, was the infamous @Aaron Jones, legendary trick rider, going to be here too? Perhaps this really was the flying event to be at! The Ravenclaw looked around, trying to see if she could spot the older Hufflepuff who she had featured in the Headliner previously but he did not seem to be present. At least, she could not see him yet. Maybe he was already flying around doing tricks somewhere?!

Emily gave Colin one of her trademark sweetly smiles when he acknowledged her presence. He always got excited when the two of them would cross paths. It was something that must be incredibly small to Colin, but Emily always felt good when it happened. A reminder that she would always be welcome in his corner.
Although that smile did turn into a wayward one at Colin's silent beg for her to join in with this race. Emily stood her ground, politely shaking her head in denial. "I'm a duellist for a reason, Mister McCoire. The broom's only out because I needed help feeding some neighbours high up in the trees!"
Oh! That reminded her!
She hopped off her broom and held it shyly. "I think I finally found a name for my broom too. Remember last time when you told me brooms should have names? Well... I think I've come up with one."
She had thought about it for a while and the one suggestion kept popping back up into her head. Thinking about it, it was actually quite fitting given it became somewhat of a habit recently. "Mariposa." "Butterfly"
You conjure enough butterflies to mess about with and then you start to realise that you're more deeply fascinated with them than you initially thought.
Colin's attention was then drawn to an older boy, whom Emily vaguely remembered from Colin's last broom race. She smiled amusingly at the rivalry banter between them. Kaitlyn, Avery and Lyanna had arrived as well, looking to get in on the action judging by their eager expressions. She gave both of them a friendly nod when they approached. The group of pending racers soon got bigger with the arrival of more faces, some Emily could recognise though she couldn't say she knew them and others that were complete strangers to her. In fact, she was certain a couple of the new arrivals weren't even from Hogwarts.
She overheard Colin discussing the race and rolled her eyes playfully at his mention of "knocking kids off the side". It was nice to know he remembered. Because it would be a good long while before Emily would let him live it down otherwise. She wasn't sure if he knew, but getting bonked like that hurt like hell!
"Just try not to overdo it if you're going to be racing around here," she said with gentle concern. "I wouldn't want anyone checking into the Hospital Wing because of something you came up with, McCoire."

Come Fly With Me!

Everyone was getting ready to race. And still some other kids showed up. He nodded towards fellow Slytherin Atlas when he made his entrance. Colin was super excited! He nudged Vailerama over towards Emily. She smiled at him. Colin's heart thumped. Even more than with just the anticipatory adrenaline of being on a broom and flying really fast! He wondered. Did she even know how incredible her smile made him feel?
He gave her a smirk as she declined his invitation to race. Flying into the treetops to check on birds was such an Emmi thing to do! He reckoned he would just climb the tree! That was an interesting difference. The Pureblood would rush at the chance to climb up a tree using only his fingers and toes and relying on physical skill; whilst the Muggleborn would use magic and careful precision to fly up to the same destination. Colin thought that might just be worth a try some time! He could fly up into the tree, and then jump off his broom and onto a branch!
Emmi looked suddenly excited about something. Colin wondered what it could be! "I think I finally found a name for my broom too," she said. Colin's eyes widened.
"Oo, what is it!? It's not Swooping Evil or some dark creature is it?" he asked playfully.
Emily gave him the look. "Remember last time when you told me brooms should have names? Well... I think I've come up with one."
Colin nodded. "Aye! Brooms, wands. Both should have names! Just like cats!" He wondered what name she had chosen.
"Mariposa," she said. Emily explained that it means butterfly. Colin thought about that for a moment. She did love wild creatures. He wondered why she chose the butterfly. They were symbolic after all. But at least it wasn't a flobberworm or a hag she named her broom after! Colin smiled.
"Brilliant! You always care so much about small creatures, as well as the bigger ones." He nodded thoughtfully. "Aye. That fits. Mariposa!"
Colin flew a couple circles around Emmi as she stood on the viaduct. He couldn't help but just look at her! After a moment he called over to Alyss. "Ayo Cap! We should get the race started!"
"I wouldn't want anyone checking into the Hospital Wing because of something you came up with, McCoire!" Emmi said.
Colin laughed merrily. "No guarantees there lassie! OWOOOOO!"
