During the previous minutes, the badgers were really looking like they were on the come up. They were slowly chipping away at the older Gryffindor team and despite taking some hits themselves, they were dishing it out just as fiercely. However, the next set of spells sent Pyxis on a rollercoaster of emotions as he witnessed just how fast the tides could be demolished.
Lea gathered her energies, preparing to trip up both Galton and Evelynn so that her teammates could adequately disrupt them. But she still hadn’t recovered from the last time she extended magic to target herself and Haven with a healing spell. The Trip Jinx fizzled out before it could leave her wand. This stoppered Lindsey and Haven’s spells. The former aimed at Galton’s eyes while the latter wanted to put a stop to Evelynn’s Cracker Jinx, but neither Hufflepuff could hit their mark.
On the other side of the piste, Gryffindor continued to stay on top of the game. Galton, possibly worried about a target on Meenauh, said no to dealing damage and instead covered the lion in the glow of a healing spell. He’d leave the ladies to cause the devastation, it seemed. Meenauh went for another Blasting Curse, this time aimed at Haven. If she had delayed in jumping out of the way for even a second longer, she might have been exploded just like the floor of the piste. But Haven would only have to settle for some splinters finding purchase on her skin. And some exploding crackers. Yes, Evelynn continued to conjure the festive items and this time, she caught all three badgers within the pops and sizzles of her spell.
Had the drama ended there, all three Hufflepuffs might have still been standing. But the cloud overhead rumbled loudly, dissatisfied with the fact that the duellists had forgotten about it. Two strikes of lighting flew down from above, shocking both Haven and Lea. When the dust cleared, Haven was just barely standing, looking like she was a breath away from collapsing. And unfortunately for the badgers, the lightning did claim one victim as Lea did not rouse. Stopping the duel, Pyxis watched as Lea’s charred body was carted out of the club room. Perhaps being exploded was a small mercy in comparison to death from above. He signaled for the duel to continue, uneasy in anticipation for what was about to unfold.

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 2
Her Blasting Curse missed, but Haven was just barely damaged by the splinters. The Cracker Jinx was still causing the issues around the place, and thanks to Merlin it was cast by their team, not the opposite.
Meenauh nodded a thank you to Galton in her slightly relieved state. Whatever was going to happen didn't happen, as two shots of lightning stroke poor badgers with full power, rendering one barely unconscious and the other completely out of consciousness.
Was that it? Meenauh would prefer not casting another Blasting Curse.

| xxx | There was something supremely satisfying in watching a strategy come together to execute as envisioned. As Lea's shield distorted the air before her with its luminescence, Evelynn couldn't help but smile inwardly as her own spell, and that of Silmataurea's directed themselves elsewhere, avoiding the potential to rebound entirely. Nevertheless, a part of her felt a bit remorseful at how heavily Haven had come under fire. It was pretty clear from the start that she was not as experienced on the piste as the rest of them—unfortunately, that made her an irresistible target. Evelynn was just preparing for a follow-up assault when the thunder rolled. For the duration of the battle, the dark cloud had rolled ominously overhead, but had remained largely ignored. The two forked flashed of light with their accompanying thunderclaps reminded everyone present why that was never a good idea. In an instant, Lea had fallen prone to the floor, and Haven looked to be on her last legs. Evelynn paused to take stock of the remaining two badgers after the duel was reset. Only after careful assessment did she inquire, "Would you like to continue?" |

"Why did you do this to me?" Haven said, looking up at the cloud in dismay. "I thought you loved me! I'm your mother! How could you betray me like that?" In her pain-induced (and slightly potion-induced, she was still feeling the effects of whatever that mysterious potion that appeared in the common room was) stupor, Haven thought the rain cloud almost looked like her beloved pygmy puff, Marcus. The same somewhat angry demeanor, the same fluffiness, the same unwillingness to be ignored. Neither of them understood that while she loved them, she couldn't give all her attention to them, and they'd be okay for a little while. Sometimes she had more important things to do, like presently, she was a little focused on NOT DYING.
Ouch.
Everything hurt.

Crackers, explosions, lightnings…a blizzard of spells made Lindsey’s eyes started to strain with exhaustion, the world in front of her spinning accordingly. Lea was carried down by the medics, while Haven seemed to be in pain and struggling. Their opponents appeared to be wholesome, and Lindsey couldn’t help but sigh a little as a sudden attack of giddiness struck. Decipio was inquiring whether they would like to continue—she glanced over at Haven, who was accusing the rain cloud (“Agreed. That’s decidedly uncivil.”), and then Lindsey politely nodded at her. Badgers never retreat.

Wands were not the only thing it was bad to ignore in a duel. Storm clouds offered a constant threat, and if ignored, could spell disaster. Or course, in this case Galton was happy they were not the ones who had ignored them. Their revenge was a brutal one. One fried badger and another so close to it he wasn't quite sure how she was standing. He was impressed. Feat of resilience like so were why Galton loved dueling - people were constantly pushing the boundaries of what they could do. Now he only wondered if they'd need to push such a boundary too. He hoped not.

The barrage of blows continued for Hufflepuff thanks to Gryffindors' sound strategy. With an advantage in numbers, Galton brought the Trip Jinx back. His spell split from the tip of his wand to target Lindsey and Haven. The badgers found themselves stumbling over, incapable of taking stock of what was coming towards them from Meenauh and Evelynn. The lions on the offensive followed their last spells with a repeat. Meenauh continued her exploding tactic and this time, her blast of energy struck the stage right below Lindsey while the badger was too caught up with steadying herself. Evelynn, intending to take on both Lindsey and Haven, conjured two sets of wizard crackers. In an act of perfect timing, the badgers staggered close together, causing each to feel the wrath of the mini-explosions from both sets. It was enough to send Haven to the piste.
But before that could happen, Pyxis’ ears perked up as Evelynn addressed the remaining two badgers on the piste. He caught a nod from Lindsey which made it clear that the Hufflepuffs were sticking this out till the end. Even though Haven was wailing at the now-dormant cloud, she seemed to have the same attitude as she was able to turn her wand towards Lindsey to replenish some of her teammate’s reserves. Lindsey took the onus of attacking for both herself and Haven by summoning more wizard crackers. She managed to place the conjurations near Meenauh and Evelynn who took on the pain of the pops. Despite their respectable determination, Haven still went down and needed to be removed from the piste. Pyxis glanced over at Lindsey who was looking about as terrible as Haven did before her demise. Could the badger cause an upset here?

Meenauh smiled at the phrases the people were saying and exchanging right in the middle of the battle. It was always entertaining. Their next set of spells laid on the opponents quite nicely and all she could see was Lindsey, who was barely standing there, looking as if even a small wind would make her fall down.
"Lindsey, I would call it a day, it's not worth it," she said to her in the most caring and calming way possible, hoping for the girl to accept it. At least she would walk off the piste conscious.

Duels were full of moments where one would be able to show their true character. How ruthless were you? What would you do up against certain harm? Did you set-up your next move or chose to go for instant damage? Heal a teammate or yourself? The list of questions you could be tested with was never-ending. And every once in a while someone had a beautiful answer to them.
It took real courage, to - while barely able to keep yourself up - heal your teammate. Accepting your imminent demise and prioritizing your partner showed everyone what type of person Haven was. If her actions hadn't meant that the duel must continue Galton would have applauded the duelist. Sadly for Haven though, her efforts had only managed to commit Lindsey to the same situation she had been in, but alone.
This was another moment when a duelist would be asked a question. Do you concede, or fight to the end? Having been in such a situation before, Galton knew how he would answer, and what he believed took the most bravery. Galton hardly ever talked during duels, but this situation called for some words. "Listen to Meenauh - don't let the adrenaline cloud your judgement."

“Haven…” All she could do was watch her teammate fall. The warmth of the healing spell Haven had just cast still flowed through her veins, yet the tempest of spells kept battering her body. She stumbled sideways, barely managing to stay upright on stage. As Haven was carried off the piste, Lindsey closed her eyes, gulping for air.
The seniors—Meenauh and Galton—were gently urging her to concede. Their concern felt genuine, and deep down Lindsey knew they were right. She couldn’t win this 1v3 match on her own. How much longer could she hold out? Five seconds? Three? And others would understand if she forfeited…wouldn’t they? “Thank you. I know I probably should.” She smiled wearily. A single gust of wind could knock her off her feet. The wiser choice…
“But…” She stopped to take a deep breath, her chest contracting with sharp pain as she inhaled. Wand arm trembling slightly, she managed to squeeze a faint smile out. “—just one last dance?”
