Matthew loves his own company, losing himself in works of fiction and envisioning hundreds of worlds within his own head. He struggles to socialise as his words never seem to meet his mouth the way his brain wants them too, but he always tries his best.

BACKGROUND

Before Hogwarts Matthew always did well in school yet was constantly called a trouble-maker so kept mostly to himself, however, when he was at home he would really come alive as he had the best family you could ask for. Matthew was born to Patrick and Holly Campbell but shortly after he was born his mother passed away. For a while his father struggled to be a single dad until he met his new partner Sean who instantly fell in love with the both of them and they have looked after 'Matty' as they call him for a few years together. Patrick is an artist and Sean a lawyer and they struggled for a long time financially but recently, given Sean finishing his degree, have provided Matthew with a more comfortable life, even getting to travel to places abroad for art shows. When Matthew started to show his magical ability and a professor from Hogwarts school of wizardry came to invite him to attend the school his parents were worried about what it would mean for them all but have allowed him to go despite their worry after many hours of pleading. He worries how his dad will be without him as he is the only thing he has left of his mother but he is looking forward to making memories with people that understand him fully.
Matthew is fiercely independent when it is necessary but also loves with his entire heart when someone earns his trust. He sees the world is his own chaotic way and loses himself in his imagination often. Matthew has spent his entire life feeling different from everyone around him and now he is beginning to understand why that was and so plans to throw himself at every opportunity to study magic possible. Before he was introduced to the idea of magic his world felt very small but now it seems bursting with possibility.

It was a regular, miserable, rainy day in Glasgow when Matthew, age 6, was walking home from school. As he balanced along the side of the curb, walking the pavement home, he felt himself trip onto the street just as a car came speeding past. As he was falling with the screams of his father, running towards him to try and grab him he felt himself stop. Floating in mid air he remained suspended until the car safely passed him in which he fell into the puddled road. Laughing as his father's face changed from fear to disbelief, he was scooped up and embraced in the tightest hug as Matthew asked if he could do it all again.

On the 11th of October 2011 Patrick Campbell would welcome his son into the world but while the day would be one of the happiest of his life, it would also be one of the worst. Our lives are a constant journey from life to death and the beginning of this life would mark the end of another. Holly Campbell passed that day giving birth to a beautiful baby boy she would never get to watch grow up and Patrick Campbell in an instant became a single father to a newborn.

5 years on from Holly's passing we find the struggling Campbell family, a father who can hardly make it through a day without crying and a son who constantly worries that he is the reason for his sadness. Little did these two know that waiting for them just across the corridor was a gift that would change their lives. After a long day at a dead end job Patrick had picked up to support the two of them he came home to find Matthew crying in his room talking to a picture of his mother. It broke Patrick's heart and he had to take a minute in the corridor outside their flat to put on a brave face for his son. That's where he met Sean who asked him if he was alright and demanded Patrick took the night off, that he would cook and that for even just 5 minutes they could put a pause on the world. It was the best meal either Matthew or Patrick had had since Holly passed and would be the start of the rest of their lives.

Being an artist he is always in paint stained clothes and has no love for formality.

Everyone that knew her says she lives on in Matthew. While Matthew has his father's eyes in colour the gold flecks come from Holly.

When he met them he was still training to be a lawyer but now that he is the family have a much stabler income. Sean like Patrick stands tall at 6 foot and has deep auburn hair that make his blue eyes pierce. Matthew is forever indebted to Sean for saving his father and thinks of him as just as much a father as Patrick. They married in 2010 after being together officially for three years. Matthew played 'Your Song' by Elton John as they walked down the aisle.
