Speech: #008000Waiting patiently for @Matthew CampbellA soft humming sound filled the corridor, as one very petite blue-eyed girl waited patiently for the Slytherin boy she was starting to care for. The sweet melody that escaped from the girl's lips was tinged by a pall of sorrow, as was this very emotional day. The girl hastily turned her head as the sound of footsteps approached, wondering if it was the one whom she was waiting for. She bit her lip and tried to look as if she hadn't gotten so excited when she realised it was someone else entirely, just another student she didn't know. The student quickly passed by, however, and the girl leaned against the stone wall. She closed her eyes and resumed her humming, drifting away on her thoughts.
Suddenly, her eyes flew open in bewilderment as she felt a gust of air whoosh past her, and squeaked as she was nearly run into by the boy. "Matthew!" Viva exclaimed, breathing out. She tried to sqelch the strange warm feeling that started bubbling up at the sight of him. She was so glad when she saw the hope in his eyes, and allowed herself to smile. She opened her mouth to speak, but closed it as Matthew kept talking, all in a rush. Viva blinked as he showed her the sketchbook he held in his hands. She took a step forward, and leaned over his arm to get a good look at what was on the pages.
"They're beautiful," Viva said softly, commenting on the detailed drawings which filled the pages of the sketchbook. Putting two and two together, she realised this must have been his mother's. She listened to Matthew, drawing her eyes away from the book and up into his face. "I think... I think that's a lovely idea." Viva tried to ignore the fact that her eyes were starting to water. How sweet, and kind, and thoughtful. It's beautiful, if not horribly sad. She nodded, blinking madly. "Only... I'm not the best artist," she tried to give a little laugh, which sounded very fake. She turned away to wipe her eyes on the sleeve of her robes. "I can try, though," Viva turned back towards Matthew. "Of course I'll try." Her eyes sparkled, and her next words were very quiet. "And I would love it if you could draw me."
She grabbed his arm as he began to look sad, and asked her to tell him if it was a silly idea. "And don't be like that! I can tell when you're doubting yourself, or pushing off your ideas like they're dumb. They're not! I think you are very creative, and thoughtful, and have wonderful ideas! Stop doubting yourself!" Viva felt her cheeks flame as she looked down. She hadn't meant to raise her voice like that. That probably wasn't going to make him feel any better. I can tell he's insecure, Viva thought to herself as she pretended to study the floor. I can see it because I recognize that in myself, as well.Godmodding between Matthew and Viva is permitted by both authors.

Speech: #008000Trying to draw @Matthew CampbellViva smiled as Matthew held out a range of art supplies for her to choose from. She decided to go with a good reliable pencil. She tilted her head as she reached out and grabbed one, looking up at Matthew curiously. "Did you bring these from home?" She hadn't seen a pencil at Hogwarts yet. All the writing so far had been done with quills. She listened as he suggested starting right in the corridor. "Right here?" Viva was a little hesitant. She blinked as she noticed Matthew pausing and looking at her, not quite sure what to think. Blinking even more at his next words, Viva began to blush. "Oh," she murmured in a quiet voice, "Thank you." Her traitor heart fluttered in her chest as she felt Matthew's warm hand help her to the ground. She wasn't talking much, but she felt like that was okay. There wasn't much she needed to say.
She could feel her throat closing and her heart rate increasing. It wasn't a horribly bad feeling, though, more of an exhilarated feeling. Viva couldn't think about anything else as she watched Matthew, listening to him speak. She felt for him, felt deeply. She felt his hurt, but also his happiness. Right here, right now. Laughing a little at his last comment, Viva turned the pencil around in her hand. She reached out for a piece of paper, then looked around for something hard to write on. She could use one of her textbooks... but that might harm them. Viva shrugged with a smile, and slid down she was laying on her stomach on the ground, head propped up with one hand and feet dancing in the air. Imagine if someone walked by and saw us, she thought with another laugh.
Nibbling the end of her pencil (a habit she had picked up at her old muggle school), Viva stared at Matthew, brow furrowed. She looked down at the paper, then back at him. This was going to be difficult. She reached back through the hands of time, remembering something her mother had once told her in those special stolen moments when they had been alone together. "You draw beautifully, Nevi," her mother had said. "You just try too hard and stress too much. If you would let yourself be free, and do whatever your hand wants to do, you could be magnificent." Well, now was as good a time as any to try out that advice. Viva lowered the pencil from her mouth and put the tip to the paper, breathing out. Just let your hand do what it wants to do. Kicking her feet in the air, she began to draw. First the outline of a face. She slowly started adding more and more details, jawline, face shape. She then started on Matthew's eyes. Glancing up to look at his eyes, she was distracted by watching the way he was working. He looked very focused. Viva shook her head to clear her thoughts and returned to her paper. His eyes were large and deep, and had this sort of far-off dreamy expression that she really wanted to capture. She bit her lip as she worked, concentrating.

Speech: #008000Being distracted by @Matthew CampbellIt was quiet, but a companionable kind of quiet. Both the children were hard at work, doing something special and deeply emotional. Viva felt the warm sunshine filter through the window and hit her skin, illuminating the patch of floor on which she was laying on. It felt lovely, and the blue eyed girl lifted her chin up, up, stretching her face towards the sun and the light. It was surprising that it was still sunny this late into autumn, but for some reason the sun was out today and Viva absolutely loved it. Momentarily distracted from her drawing, she cupped her chin in her palms and basked in the glorious warmth and comfort of the sun. Sometimes Viva really felt like she understood cats and how they acted. She loved to lie in the sun, and could fall asleep instantly if she was somewhere warm and quiet. Right now, she was feeling really content and happy, and she could tell her exhaustion was catching up to her. Blinking sleepily, she forced herself to bend back down and continue to draw.
Glancing up as she heard Matthew's voice pierce through the comfortable silence, Viva was once again distracted from her drawing. She blinked, once, twice, as she comprehended what he had just said. Some sort of wonderful warmness once again seemed to fill her from top to bottom, and she could tell Matthew was very sincere. Trying not to show how close her eyes were to filling with tears, Viva quickly looked down again and made another line with her pencil. Finally, she couldn't help it and looked up at him. Is he comparing me to his mother? "This is so magical," she said softly. "I can feel it, the deep connection. It's there, I know. Is this the way your mother felt, I wonder?" The way she felt when she was drawing people she cared about? She let a soft smile grace her lips at the sound of his laugh, and looked up yet again. Really, it seemed she couldn't help but give all her attention to Matthew. She couldn't seem to focus on her drawing whenever he had something to say. "What?" she asked, still wearing a bewildered smile and blinking her eyes as the sun shone into them. "What are you laughing about?"
She bent her arm down, and in a few quick strokes with the pencil, finished the outline of Matthew's hair. Just like in real life, the hair seemed to have a life of its own, the curls not in place and doing their own thing. Viva smiled. She carefully began to make marks for Matthew's shoulders, tracing lines over her own work as a sketched body began to appear on her paper. She hadn't finished the face yet, instead leaving it blank, deciding to finish that last. Biting her lip once again, Viva brandished her pencil and continued on the rest of the body. She picked up her paper and turned it this way and that, examining it once she had finished the body sketch. Viva had drawn Matthew in a sitting position. In the sketch he was sitting on the floor with his legs crossed, chin rested on a hand propped up on his knee. She smiled and pulled the paper back to the floor, leaning close as she began to make the first marks on his face. Viva glanced up at Matthew again, studying his facial features closely so as not to get anything wrong. This had to look right.

Speech: #008000Finishing drawing @Matthew Campbell and trying to braid her hair"Oh!" Viva's quiet surprised voice echoed through the empty corridor. She blinked, then looked down at her drawing, blushing furiously. "It's... really not that good," she said quietly, trying to hide the warm feeling that stole over her as Matthew complimented how her drawing was going. "And I think yours will be wonderful, it doesn't matter how professional it looks, all that matters is the heart going into it." Smiling slightly, Viva looked into Matthew's hazel eyes. She let out a breath. "And your heart is surely the loveliest I've ever seen." Blushing still, Viva dragged her eyes away from his and bent back over her drawing, biting her lip. She wasn't exactly sure what to say, so she spent the next few moments in silence, working on the paper.
After a while she began to kick her legs and hum absent-mindedly. She yawned widely, stretching her neck up to the sun once more. Ah, it was glorious. She smiled, then bent back down. Slowly, the facial features on her drawing began to appear. As Viva continued with her drawing, she felt so relaxed. It was nice to feel this way. Just to be here, warm and happy, doing something wonderful and creative with someone she enjoyed being with. Glancing back over at the boy next to her, she blinked as she studied him carefully, making sure she was drawing this correctly. The dreamy, far-off expression she had been trying to capture was slowly making it's way onto the page.
Almost done, Viva decided to take a little break and try to braid her long brown hair. It was really bothering her, and kept falling into her face as she was working. Viva had always had trouble doing her hair, she just really wasn't the best at braiding or anything else to do with hairstyling. She sighed in frustration as she divided her thick smooth hair into three sections and began to try and braid them together. It wasn't working out so well, Viva kept stopping and restarting with a frustrated sigh. Oh well. She gave up eventually, disappointed in herself, and bent back down, determined to finish her drawing.
Glancing up when she heard Matthew's voice, she smiled. "Ok!" she said. "I'm so close to finishing." She gently took the drawing into her hands and looked at it. "Woah," she breathed. It really was quite the work of art, Viva wasn't quite sure what Matthew had been talking about when he had said he wasn't a very good artist. Creativity and vision must run in the family. She smiled as she looked at the wonderful likeness of herself. It looks like me, but... better somehow. More bright. More beautiful. She thought, with a curious look in her eye. She chewed her lip thoughtfully. "This... is amazing, Matthew," she said quietly. "I love it." Viva smiled, so happy in that moment. No, more than happy. Joyful.
"Now, mine is almost done," she said as she bent down for the last time. "Sorry, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I only need a few more minutes!" Viva blew a strand of hair out of her eyes. "Well, maybe a bit longer, as I keep getting distracted by these wisps!" Laughing, Viva blew another piece of hair away. She squinted as the setting sun cast its blinding rays directly into her eyes.

Speech: #008000Having too many questions.
@Matthew CampbellViva continued to hum a little as she worked. Just some sweet melody she had heard on the muggle radio, probably. Why in Merlin's name did she feel so wondeful right now? She felt warm, and joyful, and bubbly, and other things she couldn't even start to name. Viva couldn't remember feeling this happy for a while. Stealing a glance over at Matthew, she hoped he was feeling happy as well. It was his birthday, and she really wanted it to be a wonderful day for him. Even though she knew he could probably never fully enjoy this memory-filled day, maybe, just maybe, she could squeeze a little warmth in it somewhere. That was what she wanted more than anything right now, to make Matthew feel better. Viva knew it was impossible to fix everything that had been broken and smashed into a million pieces, but she couldn't help wanting to. It was an innate part of her nature.
Finally, finally, Viva began to finish her drawing. It wasn't as good as some, it certainly wasn't perfect, but she loved it anyway. She hoped Matthew would feel the same way. Brushing her pencil back and forth in different spots to give it a last bit of shading, her brunette head shot up as she heard his voice. She started to laugh, but it died in her throat as he finished his statement. What could that possibly mean? At once all the feelings rushed through her body as she sat there staring at the boy, a graphite smudge on her cheek, somehow. Her hair was mussed, and her eyes were shocked. His own were sparkling in the fading light like dusty gems, and she became quite lost in them. What was happening to her? Viva really didn't know. She had so, so, many questions, and didn't know if she wanted the answers.
Slowly, oh ever so slowly, she dragged her eyes away from the deep chasms that were his. Blinking, blinking, blinking. The light danced and played with something in the corner of her eye. Multiple somethings. Viva's gaze trailed over lovely little paper flowers decorating the window ledge. Where had those come from? Had Matthew made them? She felt the upper corners of her lips perk into a sort-of smile at the sight of the lovely origami designs. Once more, she felt herself drawn back towards him. Still silent, still questioning, she simply looked at him. But for those few seconds, when his eyes met her gaze, the world stopped existing.
