2024/25 Stage 2 Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 5

Truth be told, Cassian couldn’t remember what had happened; or rather, he didn’t even register completely what had happened. Some spells were cast and bright lights from spells and flame danced across the piste. Cassian heard the students call out their various incantations but he couldn’t focus on any of them in particular. He couldn’t even tell if his fire spell had hit his intended target and, in fact, Cassian wasn’t even sure he actually had an intended target for it. His whole body hurt, his vision was blurry from his pounding headache, and he was swaying from side to side like a drunken goblin. But he could vaguely feel his wand in his hand. That was something at least. Cassian wondered if he even had enough left in him for another spell, but he sure as hell had to try for his teammates.

Effect: Cassian is hit by the Weather-modifying Charm and takes 275 damage.

The Ravenclaws went for a barrage of Knockback Jinxes this time. While the others chose to target Axyen, Mylo focused on Emma. They sent a respectable Flipendo her way, but it flew much too high over her head. Cassian found similar results as his Knockback Jinx went for the crowd instead of his target. Thankfully, the blast of energy dissipated before it could harm any of the onlookers. Jessamine’s cast was magnificent. Pyxis watched as the spell floated through the air in all of its majestic glory. Unfortunately for the Ravenclaw and similar to Mylo’s spell, her jinx went over Axyen’s head as well.

Emma fell back to her trusty Cracker Jinx, only this time, it wasn’t so reliable. She intended to set the crackers at the feet of Jessamine, but something went wrong while she casted, leading to crackers exploding in front of Cassian. However, the summoning point was a ways away from any of the Ravenclaws, allowing them all to escape the painful pops this time around. EmmaLee wanted to repeat what her teammate did in the last set of spells, but she also couldn’t find her target in time. The flames shot off to the side, away from Mylo. Did something just get pumped through the air?

The only duellist with some success was Axyen. The Hufflepuff pointed over the heads of the Ravenclaws and Pyxis thought that he was about to miss his cast as well. To his surprise, a crackling rain cloud materialized over the Ravenclaws. As thunder echoed around the piste, three strikes of lightning came down to say hello. Jessamine and Mylo, with quick feet, managed to jump away in time. However, a shock ran through Cassian’s body as the lightning bolt struck him. He fell to the floor and didn’t get back up.

“Stop!” Pyxis called out. He held up his hands as a visual aid while eying the rain cloud warily. Once Cassian was removed, the Slytherin dropped his hands and signaled for the duel to continue.

Things weren't going well none of his spells had hit and although they had evaded the spells coming their way Mylo started getting concerned as they saw clouds forming above their groups head. As they had noticed them forming he was able to move out of the way in time and not get struck by the lightning that made itself known, although their teammate Cassian wasn't that lucky and dropped unconscious.

This was become a lot like their previous duel where they hadn't even gotten one person on the other team down, and Mylo tried to hope that maybe things would get slightly better from here.

Axyen knew that the next few moments would be important, he had an idea and if all things went well, he would do a lot of damage and cause a lot of trouble for the Ravenclaw team! Axyen only had a bit of time to think, his hands were somewhat shaky as well, luckily for him he wouldn't need to worry about his aim too much with this spell. The only thing he needed to be concerned about was whether or not he was able to cast it correctly and especially the wand movement, he couldn't mess that aspect up either. Axyen decided that he wanted to cast the Weather-modifying charm over the Ravenclaw team, if he could create lightning to strike down the Ravenclaw duelists, then maybe it would be sure to deal some serious damage to them. 'Take a deep breath and clear your mind and calm down with the shaking!' Axyen told himself as he swiftly took a deep breath, it was time to jump into action.

All of the Ravenclaws chose to use the knockback jinx, but Axyen kept a careful eye and made sure to observe as much as he possibly could, he would have to look out for anything that might get directed towards him. Cassian and Jessamine both chose to target Axyen and Axyen made sure to duck underneath Cassian and especially duck underneath Jessamine's spell, something about it seemed extraordinarily powerful. 'Phew! I managed to avoid those spells, that's good!' Axyen thought to himself, it was important to avoid taking damage in duels and after dealing with the past duels as well as getting hit earlier in the match, Axyen decided it was incredibly important to not act so reckless, so as long as he kept focusing on observing what happened in the match, he had this. Mylo, the third duelist on Ravenclaw's team, chose to target Emma but thankfully Emma would find success in dodging. 'So far, everything is going our way... but that can still change, so I can't get too confident!' Axyen reminded himself, he couldn't let himself mess this up; he didn't know how long luck would remain with Hufflepuff, so he needed to find a way to end this as quickly as possible and go for the win!

Axyen focused his mind, but it was hard to think; he was really trying but it was really hard with all of these flashy spells getting thrown around everywhere. 'Ugh! Think, think, THINK!' Axyen repeated to himself, trying to get it into his head, he needed to think of a thunderstorm of some kind, so that it would make casting the spell easier for him. Emma cast the Crackers Jinx, but unfortunately it failed to hit any of the Ravenclaws and EmmaLee also found failure in attempting to throw flames at Mylo. 'Just cast the spell, I can't sit around anymore.' Axyen decided as he held his wand tightly, being very cautious as to not break it in his hands or anything like that. Axyen made up his mind after all, he was going to make his move right here and now.

Axyen aimed the wand over his head and had it slightly tilted towards the Ravenclaw team, he moved his arm in a circle around his head. 'Do not mess this up, do not mess this up, please do not mess this up!' Axyen had never really used this spell much, so he was hoping for the best and prayed that he was able to cast it. "Metelojinx!" Axyen yelled and much to his relief, rain clouds appeared over the Ravenclaw duelists. Now this was the moment Axyen was waiting for, 3 bolts of lightning struck down onto the Ravenclaws. Jessamine and Mylo managed to get out of the way; however, Cassian wouldn't be as fortunate as lightning struck him down. Axyen flinched, that looked like it really hurt, he didn't know how bad it was to be struck by lightning but he just silently hoped Cassian would be okay after that. He wasn't moving either, he was just eerily still.

Pyxis placed the match to a halt after Cassian went down and after taking Cassian off the stage, the moderator allowed the match to continue. There was one good thing about that, they had one Ravenclaw down, that was good news, Axyen only had to worry about two duelists now and looking over to his teammates, they both seemed to be pretty good and didn't get hit once through this entire duel. This was working out well for them, Axyen had an idea about what he wanted to do now. He thought of it now so he would have a better idea of what to do before spells went flying everywhere again. Axyen readied himself for everything to go to chaos again...

The duel showed no signs of slowing down and Pyxis watched the next exchange of blows with wide eyes. There was no mercy on both sides and even though the Hufflepuffs had the age advantage, the Ravenclaws were absolutely making use of their talons.

EmmaLee, presumably unsatisfied with how her last spell went, repeated the same incantation at Mylo. Unfortunately for the witch, the flames she conjured still strayed away from its intended target. Emma, on the other hand, found success with the Cracker Jinx after misplacing her cast in the last bout of spells. The crackers finally fell at Jessamine’s feet and exploded on contact with the floor. Both Ravenclaws were caught in the explosions, but that didn’t stop them from returning two Knockback Jinxes at Axyen. The Hufflepuff struggled to step out of the way of both spells and ended up taking both punches. The duo of jinxes was enough to knock him down, but not before he sniped Jessamine with a Flipendo of his own.

“Alright, stop again please!” Pyxis flagged down the duellists almost immediately after stopping them to remove Cassian’s body. Now it was someone from the opposing team who needed to be carted off, and once Axyen was in the clear, Pyxis allowed the duel to continue.

Axyen knew what he wanted to do this round, he was going to cast the Knockback Jinx and hopefully with the combined efforts of everybody and with the hope that lightning struck the Ravenclaw duelists Hufflepuff would win! Axyen didn't know what to expect out of this round, but he was incredibly focused on clearing his mind to use the Knockback jinx, so focused on that that he wasn't paying enough attention to his footing for this round and that would prove to be a fatal mistake. Axyen watched carefully as EmmaLee sent out flames towards Mylo, but like last time, she would unfortunately miss as Mylo was able to evade the spell again. 'It's okay, things are still in our favor!' Axyen thought to himself,e everything was still fine and a miss or even two misses didn't mean anything as long as at least one of them hit their target or none of them took damage. Emma would choose to use the Cracker Jinx again and would find much more success in casting the spell as it not only managed to hit Jessamine and it also managed to hit Mylo as well.

Everything was going well for Hufflepuff and Axyen was slowly starting to get confident, perhaps a little bit too confident for comfort. Jessamine and Mylo both send Knockback jinxes towards Axyen and his eyes widened as he stumbled a bit. "I am not going down without a fight!" Axyen said more to himself than to anybody else. Axyen moved his wand downwards diagonally to the right before sharply bringing it upwards and creating a hook at the end in a single frantic motion and then aimed the wand at Jessamine. "Flipendo!"

Axyen would be able to back up his claim by shooting out the blue light towards Jessamine; luckily for Axyen, she wasn't able to dodge it in time and she was sent flipping into the air and landing roughly into the ground. Everything happened very fast and Axyen was surprised by his own speed in that very moment, but it seemed both his skill and luck ran out. He probably got too comfortable or something and now he was paying the price for it, whatever the case may be, Axyen was aware he was unable to dodge. 'Crap! Do something! Do something!' However, no amount of mental begging or telling himself to fling himself out of the way would help him.

Axyen's eyes widened as he hit with the first Flipendo and got sent into the ground. "!" Axyen gasped in pain as getting hit by that spell was painful, but he wasn't able to catch a break as he would swiftly find himself meeting a second Flipendo. Once again, he was sent getting flipped through the air and then getting sent downwards back onto the stage. This time was different, Axyen was silent and he didn't move. He would be unconscious from taking around three Flipendos that round in total.

Whenever he wakes back up, he would anxiously wait for news about how the duel went. That was something for the future, however.

• 10% chance that a random spell known by the caster will be cast in addition to the spell that they have already cast. The spell will target the same target the caster had attacked/aided with a spell that round. If the spell cast had no target, then a target is assigned randomly with no consideration of friend or foe. The second spell still has to go through the normal targeting mechanics, it would not be an automatic hit or anything.This effect will not take place if the wand is not drawn.
