2024/25 Stage 2 Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 5

Axyen didn't know what he expected to happen, his hands were shaky and one moment he was perfectly fine and the next moment everything seemed to go wild. He was nervous but he was also thrilled at the same time, this was the excitement of dueling! Axyen knew what spell he wanted to cast in that chaotic instant, he didn't want to worry about three Ravenclaws at once, so how would he achieve that? He could just momentarily take one out of the match or try to and the first spell that happened to come to mind when he thought of that was the Full Body-Bind Curse. Now the question was who would Axyen target and seeing one of the Ravenclaws (Jessamine) with their wand aimed at him, Axyen instinctively decided that Jessamine would be his first target.

Axyen couldn't properly hear what spell she was using since he was trying to tune out all sounds so he could concentrate on the duel properly, but he definitely didn't want to find out either. He moved out of the way, dodging whatever spell may have been sent his way, in response Axyen saw an opportunity to use a spell of his own. He moved his wand in a curve, moving it horizontally towards the right before vertically moving it downwards with a shaky hand, he wondered if he messed up the wand movement. 'Please let it be good enough!' Axyen thought to himself, he tried to keep a clear mind but it was hard to, he just had to go for it because standing still and doing nothing was unacceptable. "Petrificus Totalus!" Axyen said as he shakily aimed his wand, he was very conscious about his aim.

'It is going to take a miracle and a big sip of Liquid Luck to even land that!' Axyen thought to himself, except for the fact that maybe miracles did exist after all since Jessamine ended up getting hit by the spell which meant that she was unable to move for a bit. Axyen wasn't sure what Petrificus Totalus felt like, he was lucky enough to have not experienced getting hit by it. Axyen watched as Jessamine hit the ground, that must've hurt, Axyen would've felt sorry had he not been worried about what else was being aimed at him. However, the good thing was that he hit Jessamine and she was out of the match for a bit, so that meant there were currently only 2 Ravenclaws to worry about. However, Axyen wondered how long the spell would last, preferably long enough where the situation would be more manageable...

His teammate, Emma, cast that one really cool spell (or that is what Axyen calls it at least) which managed hit all three of the Ravenclaws. The match seemed to be going perfectly, it seemed like everybody on Axyen's side were experiencing some type of good luck, or maybe skill, or maybe a mixture of the two. Suddenly, Axyen heard the incantation for the Knockback Jinx, Axyen looked towards Mylo, the Ravenclaw who chose to fire off an incantation at Axyen. Axyen prepared himself, but something seemed very off since there was no light being sent towards Axyen; instead, it was sent flying at Cassian, one of the other Ravenclaws! The best part? Cassian was hit, though Axyen knew how much a Flipendo could hurt, so he felt a bit sympathetic, even if they were dueling.

Axyen was about to be unfortunate enough to experience a bit of pain himself, as Cassian was the one to aim a Flipendo at him; for whatever reason, all of the Ravenclaws seemed to be targeting Axyen except for the fact that Axyen was had been able to dodge everything up until now. 'AHH! Dodge! Dodge! Roll out of the way, maybe jump out of the way! Do something!!!' Axyen thought to himself in a panic as he tried to get out of the way, but unfortunately for him, he was sent spiraling flipping backwards through the air before getting flung into the ground and it was very, very unpleasant. "..Ow..." Axyen said to himself as he got up. He didn't want to get hit like that again, Axyen focused, he couldn't let himself become frantic at a time like this; maybe the reason he failed to dodge was because he was distracted and panicked when he needed to dodge, or maybe he was too slow or something. Axyen made sure his wand was still in his hand and observed the dueling stage carefully thinking of what he needed to do next and if there was anything else that would be targeting him; speaking of which, his two teammates seemed to be perfectly fine which means they probably chose to go after Axyen specifically.

EmmaLee sent a spell towards Mylo, the Ravenclaw who accidentally sent a spell towards his teammate Cassian, which unfortunately missed, but that was okay, everything was going well except for the fact that Axyen had been hit and as much as he tried to hide it, he was still feeling the pain. However, he had to get over it; he was doing a better job at handling pain, it did help that he often got knocked out for the majority of duels... but he had a good feeling about this one, he had a feeling that they would win!

They did seem to have much better chances and now the only thing that Axyen had to think about was what he was going to do next. All Axyen had to do was to try and go with the flow and come up with ideas and moves as quickly as possible, after all, dueling was very fast-paced. So Axyen needed to find a way to keep up, no matter how difficult it would be. Even if Axyen got knocked down again, he would just have to stand back up again and as long as he or either of his teammates could do that, they haven't truly lost...

Prodigal Defense Against the Dark Arts Learner - Able to learn Defense Against the Dark Arts 1 year ahead of their actual school year. You may only choose a spell taught in DADA classes. At end game they learn 1 restricted spell. This can also serve as an alternative means to learning spells besides earning them through DADA class.

Wand Maker (Phoenix Feather Core):
• 10% chance that a random spell known by the caster will be cast in addition to the spell that they have already cast. The spell will target the same target the caster had attacked/aided with a spell that round. If the spell cast had no target, then a target is assigned randomly with no consideration of friend or foe. The second spell still has to go through the normal targeting mechanics, it would not be an automatic hit or anything.This effect will not take place if the wand is not drawn.
• In duels the wand only chooses from the list of official duelling spells.
• +2 accuracy to spells cast.

Emma was the queen of the Cracker Jinx. Cassian, once again, found himself surrounded by lights and smoke, the sound crackling around the Ravenclaws. Unfortunately, Cassian was all too familiar with how well Emma could cast that particular jinx from their duel last year. Blinded by the smoke, Cassian felt himself get hit with what felt like a Knock-Back jinx, although he couldn’t tell where it came from. Steading himself, he took aim at Axyen, who Cassian knew to be a powerful caster. He was, after all, the Dragon Kid. Cassian’s own Knock-Back jinx was successful, but it seemed that was the only spell that seemed to affect the Hufflepuffs this round. As the smoke began to clear, Cassian saw Jess lying on her back, rigid as a board. The Full-Body Bind curse. Blast, these badgers were good. It was definitely a rough start for the Ravenclaws.

Mylo couldn't believe what had happened, likely due to the shock of the firecrackers going off near them, they had missed their original target. Now that wouldn't have been a problem but they had instead hit their own teammate.

This wasn't going well, although at least they had been able to evade the spell coming in their direction so that helped. But preparing themselves to hopefully hit this time Mylo got ready again.

Pyxis couldn’t see how things could get any worse for the Ravenclaws after the last bout of spellcasting, but he clearly hadn’t seen it all.

While her teammates took their shot at Cassian, Emma had decided to go after Mylo. It was a smart choice as the wix looked like they weren’t prepared for the flames that ambushed them. The jet of fire blasted their face with heat, and after the flames died down, they found that fire had caught on their robes and was slowly creeping up to their neck. The other Hufflepuffs sought to take the oldest Ravenclaw down. Axyen succeeded with precision that Pyxis had only heard of. He launched his extra-powerful spell towards Cassian who took its full force on his chest, briefly knocking the breath out of him.

Trying to rebut, Cassian and Mylo continued their assault on Axyen. Unfortunately, they found no success. Cassian conjured flames that were weaker than Emma’s, but they still burned hot. However, the Ravenclaw miscalculated his aim and overshot his spell by a long margin. Mylo chose to go for Axyen with the Knockback Jinx, but the wix could not even muster the smallest orb of energy. The tip of their wand sparked for a moment before fizzling out as nothing happened.

There were only two sources of reprieve for the Ravenclaws. One came in the form of EmmaLee missing her chance to take out Cassian. The lad had at least one more round left in him. The second was Jessamine pushing against the confines of her paralysis with just enough force needed to break free from the effects of the spell. The Ravenclaw still felt like her legs were a bit stiff, though. It seemed that the petrification spell left some traces of magic behind.

He hadn't even been able to cast his spell due to the flames surrounding them. It was not going well at all and they didn't know why. The amount of practice Mylo had been doing since their last duel had made them think things like spells not leaving their wand would be over, apparently he was mistaken.

Looking over at their teammates they saw them all still standing, although Cassian looked worse for wear and Mylo knew that if he got hit again he'd likely go down. Which would be very very bad for them.

Taking a breath Mylo steeled themselves for the next round of spells and hoped that things would turn around for his team.

Axyen prepared himself as the next wave of spells, he didn't know what to expect or what would be fired at them, but all he had to do was to do was dodge whatever was sent towards him and send off a spell of his own. If Axyen could do that without messing things up, then he would be okay. 'Just don't mess up, don't mess up! I'll probably mess up- whatever! I got this! Just try!' Axyen thought to himself anxiously, he didn't know what was going to happen but he felt a lot more jumpy. Axyen readied himself and hoped for the best. Axyen focused and tried to observe everything closely, he noticed flames come from Emma, she aimed the spell at Mylo who was not prepared to dodge the flames since they ended up getting hit by the spell and having flames burn at them; Axyen knew that wasn't pleasant.

Axyen knew he had no time to waste, he also needed to contribute to this duel and he decided that after getting hit by the Knockback Jinx earlier, he just so happened to feel quite inspired to use the same spell against the person who had hit him with it earlier. Axyen aimed his wand towards Cassian and cleared his mind, thinking about nothing except creating a powerful Flipendo. Axyen moved his wand downwards diagonally to the right before sharply bringing it upwards and creating a hook at the end. Axyen couldn't mess this wand movement up, not again; he was unfortunate to have had this spell backfire against him, but that was in his first duel, when he was still new. This was different now, he would be able to succeed in casting the spell!

"Flipendo!" Axyen said with a bit of a higher pitch. He needed it to be clear and maybe if he sounded powerful, that would somehow boost the spell's power. Maybe it would just increase the chance that he had a successful cast. Axyen put a lot of focus into this spell as well, he really was determined or maybe even desperate to win. 'Put everything into this spell!' Axyen thought to himself, this spell was a more powerful one; it dealt more damage so Axyen figured it was perfect for what he was currently trying to accomplish at the moment.

A bright blue light shot out from Axyen's wand which he aimed towards Cassian and he would find success in both casting a powerful spell and hitting his opponent. Cassian was sent flipping into the air and from the looks of it, all it took was one more spell cast to have him out of the duel. Axyen prepared himself just in case spells were fired at him again; while he failed to prepared the first round, he was prepared to dodge whatever was sent at him this round. 'Watch closely and then move out of the way; duck, dive, roll, side step, jump, dash...' Axyen kept extra movements in his head, anything that would help him evade anything. Axyen thought ahead of time about ways to dodge and it seemed to pay off... or he was just lucky, or maybe it was both.

Axyen watched as flames shot out from Cassian's wand and it just so happened to be aimed in Axyen's general direction. Axyen was fortunate enough to not have been hit by the incoming spell. 'Good, I wasn't hit by that!' Axyen noted as his attention now turned towards Mylo who had his wand aimed towards Axyen, Axyen readied himself for a spell that wouldn't appear. Apparently, luck seemed to be working with the Hufflepuffs... for now, at least. Axyen didn't know how long things would be going well for them, after all, it didn't take much to turn things around.

Axyen didn't fail to notice Jessamine was standing again, she was back in the duel. 'That's fine, I was able to stop her from casting any spells, even if it was for just a few moments.' Axyen thought to himself, he wanted to be hopeful, but he was worried that if he did that, the good luck would somehow disappear. Axyen was doing a pretty good job at not looking at the crowd, so he was able to keep his cool for the time being. Whatever got them closer to victory, it's been a long while since Axyen last won a duel and he didn't want to stay on a losing streak; he just had a inner feeling that this may be an opportunity to fix that. 'Am I overconfident for thinking about that?' Axyen pondered.

'No! Not right now and definitely not here! I need to focus!' Axyen remembered that he couldn't zone out in the middle of a duel, that would not only be embarrassing, but that could also end up costing his team the win. Axyen waited for what happened next, he just needed to make his next move and hope for the best. 'As long as I keep giving it my all, I got this.' Axyen told himself. He was trying to place more confidence in his system in hopes that it would somehow boost his performance; however, he also needed to balance it out, overconfidence would definitely mess things up. 'Just go with the flow, everything will come to me.' Axyen ultimately decided.

Axyen looked over to both Emma and EmmaLee, both of them were yet to get hit by anything, so they were doing just fine. This duel was still in their favor and Axyen needed to find a way to try and keep it like that. 'Think, think...' Axyen pondered different possibilities, it was easy for him to imagine different outcomes. Now he just needed to trust himself to pick the right move.
