Roleplay:
The warm glow of morning sunlight filtered through the iron-and-glass ceiling of King’s Cross Station, casting long golden streaks across the bustling platform. The air was alive with the sounds of chattering families, the occasional hoot of an owl, and the rhythmic hiss of the large red steam engine known as the Hogwarts Express.

Richard stood beside his luggage, gripping his trunk in one hand and holding Aegis’s cage in the other. His heart raced—not out of fear, but anticipation. This was it: he was finally leaving for Hogwarts.

His father, Arthur, gave him a firm clap on the shoulder. “Remember, son, knowledge is your greatest tool, but instincts will save your skin. Trust both.”

Eleanor, his mother, brushed a wayward strand of dark hair from Richard’s forehead. “Write to us as soon as you get settled, alright? And be careful with magic. Just because you can do something doesn’t always mean you should.”

Richard smirked. “So you don’t want me to turn Cassandra’s hair blue the next time I see her?”

Cassandra scoffed. “As if you could, squirt! Besides, I’d just make your robes sparkle for a week.”

Arthur chuckled. “That’s the spirit. Keep each other on your toes.”

The train let out a long, echoing whistle.

Eleanor exhaled, her grip tightening on Richard’s hand for just a moment. “We love you, sweetheart.”

Richard felt a pang of emotion rise in his chest but pushed it down with a grin. “Love you too. Don’t miss me too much.”

He turned, gripping his trunk, and took a deep breath. Then, with a final glance over his shoulder, he stepped onto the train.

The interior was warm and alive with excitement. Students bustled about, laughing and calling to friends as they found compartments. The scent of polished wood and faint traces of sweets filled the air.

Richard walked down the narrow corridor, peeking into compartments as he went. Most were full of students already deep in conversation. He finally found an empty one near the back, sliding open the door and heaving his trunk onto the overhead rack. Aegis, still in his cage, let out a soft “hoo” of approval as Richard settled into the seat by the window.

He released a breath, watching as the station slowly faded away, his parents becoming smaller on the platform. A mixture of nerves and excitement filled his chest.

Just as he was about to get lost in thought, the compartment door slid open.

Scene:Inside, the train was warm and inviting, with rich wooden paneling lining the corridors and large windows offering breathtaking views of the landscape as it blurred past. The plush seats in the compartments were deep and comfortable, upholstered in deep scarlet fabric, and framed by elegant brass fixtures that gave the train an air of old-world charm. Lanterns, softly glowing with enchanted candlelight, swung gently from the ceilings, casting golden hues over everything.

The corridors bustled with students—first-years darting from compartment to compartment, excitedly introducing themselves, while older students leaned against the walls, catching up on summer news. Occasionally, an owl hooted from its cage, or a cat padded lazily across a seat, curling up in a warm patch of sunlight.

The scent of butterbeer and pumpkin pasties filled the air as the Honeydukes Express trolley made its rounds, its elderly witch pushing it steadily along. “Anything from the trolley, dears?” she called, her voice familiar and kind. The cart was overflowing with Cauldron Cakes, Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, and Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum, tempting every passing student.

XXXThe air was filled with thick, pale grey smoke pouring from the train chimney, amassing on the platform. Eonaria stood near the wall, watching the other families as they mingled with each other and gave their children encouragement speeches or whatever it was that they were doing. Her parents had already apparated away after a quick reminder to make them proud, leaving her and her twin brother to get on the Hogwarts Express.

XXXEonaria knew she would have a least a few friends at Hogwarts, but it was still incredibly nerve-wracking to take the first step into a whole new life. It's just like moving homes. Except your parents are back at your old home. She shivered, looking at her brother, Raiame. "Um..." He seemed to have a little more patience than usual, understanding that this was an intimidating milestone, but not much.

XXX"Ready?" Raiame asked. Eonaria inhaled nervously, ended up breathing in smoke, and coughed harshly. That was definitely not intentional! "Right. Right, yes," she squeaked once she coughed most of it out. "Let's go, then." Eonaria hoisted her trunk off of the ground, very thankful for the Feather-light Charm on it, and climbed onto the Hogwarts Express.

XXXThe aisles were filled with students shouting and rushing around trying to find empty compartments, immediately creating a crowded environment. Everything was just so... lively. Too lively. Eonaria gulped nervously. No matter what she said, this was still a very, very frightening experience. Raiame touched her shoulder. "Find your own compartment, okay? Just breathe and you'll be fine." He vanished in the crowd in seconds.

XXX'No, come back!' Eonaria wanted to screech. At least stay with me until we actually get there!! She looked around, desperately trying not to get trampled. The train whistle blew, signalling that it would soon depart.

XXXFinally, she managed to sidle to the end of the train car, where it was emptier. Eonaria breathed a sigh of relief, opening the least occupied compartment she could find. There was still someone inside, but at least it wasn't five someones. No turning back now... The train was beginning to pull away from the station, so Eonaria quickly placed her trunk on the rack and sat down awkwardly.

XXX"Um, hello... is it alright if I sit here?" She squeaked. Her voice was definitely higher than usual. Not only was it embarrassing, but it would probably also end up hurting if she continued. Eonaria cleared her throat, trying to fix it. Maybe it was from the smoke from earlier...

Plush, deep red cushioned seats lined both sides, their fabric slightly worn from years of student use but still comfortable. Roleplay:
Richard had been sitting by the window, his chin resting in his palm as he watched the crowds thin on the platform before fading into green scenery before long. The rhythmic chugging of the train had already started to lull him into a state of quiet thought, his mind running through all the what-ifs of the coming school year. The air inside the compartment smelled faintly of old wood and parchment, the soft rumble of voices and footsteps beyond the door serving as a constant reminder that he wasn’t alone.
When the door slid open, he tensed slightly, his fingers gripping the hem of his sleeve. He turned to see a girl with dark hair and an equally uncertain expression.
"Um, hello... is it alright if I sit here?" she squeaked. To him her voice noticeably seemed high-pitched, like she had been caught off guard by her own words. Richard blinked at her for a moment, then quickly nodded, shifting slightly in his seat.
“Yeah—uh, of course.” His voice was quieter than he intended, but he managed a small, polite smile before looking away again, watching the small villages and farmstead roll by.
There was a brief silence as the train rattled along the tracks, only the occasional murmur of voices from other compartments filling the air. Richard shifted awkwardly, feeling the weight of the quiet between them. He wasn’t great at starting conversations, but it felt rude to just sit there and say nothing.
He stole a quick glance at the girl, trying to gauge her reaction. She seemed just as nervous as he was, which oddly made him feel a little better. At least he wasn’t the only one feeling out of place. After a moment, he hesitated, then glanced at her. “Um… so,” he started, his fingers fidgeting slightly in his lap, “if you could bring one magical creature with you to Hogwarts—like, as a pet—what would it be?”
It wasn’t the best question, but it was the first thing that popped into his mind. He knew most people just had cats, toads, or owls, but there were so many fascinating magical creatures out there… and maybe, just maybe, talking about them would make this whole thing a little less nerve-wracking.

XXXEonaria could hear the commotion inside the train begin to die down as students quickly found compartments to sit down in. She wondered where Raiame had chosen to sit. Seriously, why couldn't he have stayed? It wouldn't kill him to put up with me for another day, right? Inside the compartment, the unknown someone, now revealed to be a boy with messy brown hair, looked over and blinked before nodding with an awkward smile. It seemed that her arrival was rather startling to him. Eonaria smiled back uncertainly, letting the silence sit.

XXXMore seconds than appropriate had already passed, so it would be weird to start a conversation now. Then again, it would also be impolite to sit here in uncomfortable silence for the entire ride. It would be many hours before they reached their destination. Shouldn't transportation be a little faster? Eonaria was not at all a fan of trains, easily influenced by the symptoms of motion sickness. The window showed a winding landscape up ahead, causing her to grimace. Not good. Not good at all.

XXXThankfully, the boy interrupted the silence first, asking her what magical creature she would bring to Hogwarts. The question popped up out of nowhere, causing her to jump slightly. Then again, during awkward silences, people tend to find random questions to ask.

XXX"Oh, um- If I could, I would absolutely bring Aquaenala. She's a Maine Coon/Kneazle mix. I would have, but apparently she's too big to come to Hogwarts." Eonaria felt a little odd discussing this out loud, but hey, a conversation was a conversation. Why not? "But any creature at all... tamed, of course...maybe a Mooncalf? It'd be more fun if it wasn't restricted to only coming out on the full moon, but it'd be an interesting experience nonetheless. They look a little creepy, but still pretty cute." She tilted her head. "What about you?" For a moment, Eonaria imagined all the other creatures possible. The dragons, of course, and winged horses, but also the small ones like Pygmy Puffs and maybe even the many different breeds of snakes.

Richard hesitated for a moment, his fingers fidgeting with the silver clasps on his coat. He hadn’t expected her to return the question so quickly. His first instinct was to mumble something short—maybe a Niffler or something simple—but instead, the words spilled out before he could stop himself.
"A Thunderbird," he said, his voice gaining a bit of confidence as he spoke. "They're native to North America, mainly in Arizona, and they’re related to the phoenix. But they’re bigger, way bigger—like, majestic and powerful, with these enormous golden wings that shimmer like a stormcloud when they fly. They can sense danger, sort of like a Seer, and when they flap their wings, they can summon actual storms. Not just little showers—huge, rolling thunderclouds, lightning, even hurricanes if they’re angry enough."
As he continued, he found himself leaning forward slightly, his brown eyes lighting up with rare enthusiasm. "Some of them bond with wizards, but only the really special ones. There’s this whole legend about how they only trust those with good hearts, kind of like phoenixes. Oh, and their feathers are used in wand cores, but it's super rare compared to phoenix feathers or dragon heartstrings. Not many wandmakers can even handle them properly because they’re unpredictable, but if you get a wand with a Thunderbird feather core, it usually means you’re destined for something big."
Richard stopped abruptly, realizing he had been talking for far too long. His ears turned red, and he quickly looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. "Er—sorry. That was... a lot. I, um—probably be silly to bring such a creature." He laughed awkwardly, his voice going a bit quieter again. "I guess I just really like magical creatures. Guess I take after my dad."His fingers tapped anxiously on his knee, bracing for a reaction. Had he completely overwhelmed her? Was she regretting sitting here now?

XXXThe boy seemed a bit taken aback at the way she had jumped right into her answer. The timing! Eonaria chastised herself. Now hit with second-hand embarrassment, she sat back and quietly listened to his response. He seemed... extremely enthusiastic about thunderbirds. Eonaria had read about them, but other than the initial amazement about the thunderstorms, it hadn't exactly piqued her interest.

XXXAfter all, they were in North America. She couldn't think of any possible scenario in the future where she'd be in either America, much less Arizona, so knowledge about thunderbirds wasn't very useful to her. At least it was a good conversation topic? Fun facts? Either way, this boy was talking very quickly with a very large amount of information.

XXX"Huh, you know a lot about thunderbirds," Eonaria commented, offering a small smile once she processed that he was done talking. "No worries! I don't think it'd be very silly, unless it came to a rainy Quidditch match and shot down the players, which is quite unrealistic." She paused, wondering where she was even going with this sentence. "But all magical creatures can be fascinating in some way. I love them, too. Do you think Care of Magical Creatures is going to be your favorite class?"

XXXThe boy seemed quite nervous about all the facts he had just blurted out, and Eonaria wondered if she should try and comfort him in some way. Unless I inadvertently did earlier in the conversation? Would it be weird to reassure him twice? What if I already said it twice? Yikes!

XXX"...but would you realistically want a thunderbird as a pet?" Eonaria wondered out loud. "I mean, the way you and the books described it, they seem pretty dangerous. I can't believe they're classed with four X's instead of five." Wait, was that a weird thing to say? I'm not trying to be a walking encyclopedia! Well, I could be for some things. Shush, me!
