Jake was looking forward to watching this one - the Gryffindor team had two members that he had faced in his LAST duel, and well, to be quite honest they had absolutely destroyed his team. It would be fun to watch them duel again without having to be on the other side of it. And with Rose, he had seen her duel a lot over the years, since she had been in the FIRST duel he'd ever officiated over, and the second too for that matter. The Slytherin team was really going to have their work cut out for them, but then again, with Hanako on the team there was no telling what would happen. Jake had gone back a long way with HIM too, and well, a duel with him involved was always...interesting to say the least. Jake had seen him duel both from this position and as an opponent. It hadn't been his favorite experience seeing Hanako's flirting in action, but that had been a long time ago, so hopefully he was done with all THAT.
"Alright everyone! Get ready, because the duel is about to begin! This time we'll see Gryffindor taking on Slytherin. You all know what to do, so on my mark, you can all begin!" Jake took a moment, letting everybody soak in the anticipation, and then finally he made the call. "Begin!"
He stood back and watched, knowing that Gryffindor and Slytherin duels always seemed to have everybody's interest. The Gryffindors had the advantage in year but would the Slytherins bring the fight to them? They were all about to find out!

Another day, another duel. And it seemed Mahlioz was once again paired with Ara Villa and Hanako Tone. Ara she was getting to know decently well after countless duels together (though she still found her slightly scary) - she let out a "Hi" at her approach. Hanako, not so much, but he was certainly good at duelling and probably not too happy to be in a group with itty thirdies again. Mahlioz could have bet quite a few galleons that Ara would be calling him grandpa more than once this duel.
On the other side of the piste were the Griffindors, and this was where Mahlioz began to stress. Two sixth years and a fourth year? There was no way that was fair. Slytherin was obviously at a disadvantage. It was slightly concerning third years were being paired with sixth years.
But if this was what was happening, the Slytherin wasn't going to complain. They would fight as much as they could, and even if they went down they would do so having tried. Besides, Rose was one of their opponents! Mahlioz had always wondered what it would be like to duel her (never really expecting it to happen, considering the age difference). They grinned at her in hello, wishing the Gryffindors "Good luck," and then the duel began.

Feb 10 2025 (17:28)Life was hectic. She didn't know who would die or be attacked next in her family or who was behind it. Maybe dueling would take her mind off things... Even just for a bit.
The young Villa was honestly exhausted.
Before the round even started, the third year knew they were at a quite big disadvantage. But at least they weren't that other Slytherin team that got people like 4 years above them as their opponents, right? They might be screwed but not that screwed. On the other side of the piste, she saw the Gryffindors. Two 6th years and a 4th year. This won't be an easy duel, hm?
Her teammates were yet again Mahlioz -- a person who she was all too familiar with -- and Hanako, the old man. Even if they lose, Ara was sure to get some fun out of this unfortunate situation. "How's the back, gramps?" she greeted the obvious almost-corpse in the group after bowing silently to Mahlioz as a way of greeting them too. Oh how she would love calling people on their birthdays "uncle" "grandpa" "grandma" and the like.
The Slytherin's hair was still the toned dark silvery grey it was last stage when her blue hair faded. Her short silvery locks were in a half ponytail. From an angle, she just looked like a guy with long hair. Her opponents were a Santa Claus wannabe, a tomato with no soul, and a beanpole. They may be intimidating because of their seniority but Ara tried her best to shrug it off and act as if it was a duel with someone the same year as her.
She could insult people all day but she wasn't one to ignore style. "Nice braids," she said promptly. The Villa meant it as a compliment but the delivery had much to improve on.
A few moments later, the Slytherin team got up to the piste with their opponents and Ara took a breath as the duel finally began...RP Word Count: 307/50

After many years, he was back...and already the adrenaline was hitting like a truck. He had definitely missed it, the nerves, the thrill...the little staredown phase before the spells started flying that you used to get a good read on your opponents. It was like he had never left.
Things were different now of course, it was three vs three for one thing. It was a minor shift overall, it didn't exactly matter how many teammates he had, Just which teammates they were.
AJ wasn't familiar with Rose or Kim particularly, they had likely seen each other around. Maybe even spoken once or twice. However, he would do his utmost to look out for them both, and hopefully they'd do the same for him. Hopefully if he did screw up nobody here would remember that he used to be the Captain of the Gryffindor team.
He twirls his wand around on his finger tips before taking it into a duellist's grip. "Hunnured t'beh heer...goo' lu' t'yoo ull." "Honoured to be here...good luck to you all." He smiles softly.

Jake could celebrate today as he will soon find out Hanako’s taking a temporary break from flirting at this stage. Hooray for Jake! He thought he needed the break after getting annihilated in the last stage, probably. Or perhaps because he wasn’t in the mood because he was up against 2 classmates and Kim. And backing him up were children. “Are they really the ones that need luck right now, kid?” he teased Mahlioz with a grin. And the other kid was just- amusingly annoying. “ Well, you better hope its good enough for me to keep standing in this duel today if you want a chance of winning, don’t you think?”
On the other side of the stage, he managed to get a glimpse of Kim. Who seemed… sort of better since the last time they talked. Well… he knew enough that appearances can be deceiving. He let out a sigh, twirling his wands between his fingers as they readied the first round. This wasn’t the first time he was against annoying opponents. It’ll end soon enough.

This was his very first duel against Slytherin and Kim was a little hesitant about this because not only was Slytherin his father's House but the boy who'd been obsessed with kissing him was going to be up against him. In other words, Hanako Tone. Kim wouldn't be surprised at all if Hana went after him the entire match. It wouldn't be out of character for him. At least not from their past experiences together. But Kim had to admit, he wondered if Hana had brought along Cu Sith because he hadn't seen her in quite some time. He had missed seeing her and wanted to catch a glimpse.
That is, if Hana had brought her along with him.
Kibō had come with him and Kim had set him down off-stage as he made his way onto the piste. Since he'd come out from under the heavy depression he'd been dealing with for the past two years, Kim had taken more of an interest in things again. Baking, cooking and Cu Sith namely, all of which he'd neglected for some time. The only thing he'd continued to do all these years despite the depression had been to take care of the plants in Greenhouse One. But after Val had confessed he loved him and that he would always be there for him as often as possible, there had been a spark.
That was when Kim's life had taken a turn for the better and everything had changed. It almost seemed as if his luck had turned both with his former relationships with others and even dueling as well. Over the past year he'd lost every single one of his duels, further driving him into depression. But since the start of this year, he'd won the first of his duels and had hopes of winning the second too. Kim's energy was slowly becoming more positive by nature, after being consumed by darkness for such a long period of time. This time, Kim would also win the duel, despite what it represented to him.
After all, a small part of him wanted Slytherin to win because it was his father's House. Kim had even seen himself as being part of that House and Colin was in it too. So he had sentimental feelings towards Slytherin in general. But at the same time, Gryffindor was Kim's House and he had a competitive spirit and didn't want to lose against Slytherin. This would quite literally be the most intense match he'd ever participated in before and would be remembered for all time. Regardless of how the match turned out for him. Kim inclined his head towards Rose upon seeing the familiar duelist.
She'd been his teammate for the past few years and Kim was very comfortable with her.
Unfortunately, their other teammate had decided to quit the dueling club which was a shame. Kim would miss her as he'd enjoyed working together with Rose and Elsa. But their new teammate seemed pretty capable, perhaps he would be able to help take them to yet another victory for the new year. He inclined his head towards AJ and then focused on their opponents, getting his wand ready to cast spells at the targets they'd decided upon earlier. One thing was for sure, there would be a flurry of spells cast in Round One. Whether any would hit remained to be seen but it would be chaotic.
"Let's do this!" Kim said, making eye contact with Mahlioz and nodding at her. He seemed to be taller than any of their opponents but that didn't bother him. Even with height he could dodge pretty well, although his height did make him a lovely target to hit. But Kim was used to being targeted first, being the baby of the group all the time. Plus, being hit by Hana was kind of something he wanted to experience... not that he was masochistic... of course not... Kim tried to banish those thoughts. Val really did seem to have had an influence on him in more ways than one. A sigh escaped him.

And then they were off!
Jake watched closely to make sure Kim's pet snake made its way to safety before the spells started flying. Luckily, the animal was out of range of the spellfire, but Jake was determined to keep an eye out to make sure it stayed that way. He nodded at Kim, who had been kind to him in their last duel, offering chocolate frogs to his whole team. Of course, once the duel began, none of that mattered, and the duel was very quick to begin.
The Slytherin team had the disadvantage with age, and they instantly started out with a strategy to make up for it. If you can't beat them on experience, why not outnumber them? As soon as they could, all THREE Slytherins turned their wands on AJ and let loose knockback jinxes!
That was the intention at least. Mahlioz's spell flew astray, going off more towards Rose who stepped out of the way. Still, two spells made their way towards AJ. AJ tried his best to dodge, but dodging two spells at once was difficult, and while he managed to avoid Hanko's, it was one of the younger Slytherins, Ara's, spell that connected. AJ was not to be out done though, and would show what experience could bring to the chamber. He had a dragon heartstring wand, famously powerful, and he set forth a confringo against the girl who had hit him. Even though she was quick to get out of the way, the range of the explosion was too great, and she would be singed by some of the splinters.
Rose took advantage of all three Slytherins attention falling on AJ to let forth a blindfold spell on Hanako, which ALSO connected. Maybe it was because she remembered what it was like to duel Hanako, as Jake had once wished HE could blindfold him when they were in the middle of a very uncomfortable duel since you couldn't flirt if you couldn't see right? (though to Hanako's credit he was much calmer today! So far...)

This duel was actually turning out to be a lot of fun for him, perhaps it was because Kim was finally starting to enjoy things again. Despite being placed against two of his juniors, Kim actually liked this more. He'd helped a fellow junior out with her duel recently and liked doing that more than actually participating in duels with his peers. Kim had given her tips and been impressed by her actions. When the duelist eventually graduated, Kim could rest assured his place would be taken over by those he'd helped in the past. Even though some didn't consider lower years from other Houses their juniors, Kim didn't differentiate. If they were younger than him and wanted help from him, he would help them.
It was just how he was. After all, helping others not only helped them but helped him out too. He could learn and grow at the same time. It also had the potential to help him make connections with others he might not have ever made. Oddly enough, the most recent edition to his and Rose's team was not taking off too well as AJ had ended up missing his target by quite a lot. Despite being a sixth year and going after a third year, she ended up evading his attack very easily. Kim was impressed by Ara's skills and surprised a little by AJ's failure. The duelist's own spell directed at Hana had also missed but at least Hana was a higher year than him. Rose had managed to get her spell off with 100% success for her.
She'd blindfolded Hana so he couldn't see anything around him. Well, at least they'd had one success. On the other hand, their opponents had almost mirrored their success. Hana and Mahlioz had missed their spells and Ara had been the only one who had succeeded. She'd managed to hit AJ particularly hard and Gryffindor was currently worse off than their opponents. But it was only the first round and anything could happen throughout the remaining nine rounds. Kibō watched from the shadows of the dueling piste, his gem-like eyes taking in every little detail. He didn't want Kim to get hurt but knew enough not to venture out and use himself as a distraction to save him. This wasn't an attack on his man.
It was just practice.

Gryffindor vs Slytherin: Match 3
"Confringo!" A loud crack and a shockwave of debris shot forth from the ground where his wand was pointed, and though it was powerful it had missed its actual target. "Ach, stull cannae ge' th' hang o' tha'!" "Ach, still can't get the hang of that!" He mutters in frustration, catching the disappointed glance from Kim out of the corner of his eye. True that maybe he wasn't setting the greatest example of duelling prowess ever but it was his first round back after a long hiatus, surely he was due a bit of slack?
Apparently not, according to the opposing team. After the initial spells flew he quickly noticed the three wands pointed directly at him, and he suddenly felt like the victim of some kind of magic firing squad. He didn't even have time to let out a quip or a joke before the first streak of blue light was shooting towards him.
The first shot whizzed past him, luckily. The second one he had to duck under, feeling his hair blown around by the force of it, unfortunately that left him squarely in the path of the third. It struck true and sent him flying backwards in an impressive spiral before unceremoniously clattering to the floor.
He took a brief moment to wallow in self-pity before picking himself and his wand back up and dusting himself off. "Reeght, no' enteerully shoor wha' ah ded teh dusurv tha' buh et surtunleh wo' meh up." "Right, not entirely sure what I did to deserve that but it certainly woke me up." He chuckles, rubbing his bruising ribs.
