Third and Final Task - Ashwinder eggs and a Wooden Cabin

After a busy morning in which all teams had the opportunity to brew their best potions, using all their knowledge and best of skills, professors Melisande Lennox and @Méabh Regan would be waiting for the brave and daring contestants at the Quidditch Stadium. Alongside them was the prestigious and international panel of judges, constituted by Hogwarts' Hjørdis Jensen and Dusana Sabo, Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbatons, Évodie Ndoto Masudi of Uagadou and Hugo da Silva[NPC] former Castelobruxo's potions professor and a renown author.
It was mid-autumn and the Scottish highlands would welcome them with gray skies and a very unpleasant cold wind. Meli looked at the heavy clouds forming a dense blanket that threatened to dissolve into raindrops and hoped that wouldn't happen for a while longer. Behind her, the representatives of the various schools participating in the tournament were sitting comfortably, they would be the ones who would evaluate the performance of all the teams and they would be the ones who would decide the winner in the end. Who among them would deserve to walk out of the stadium with a shiny new golden cauldron and bring honor and prestige to their names? Melisande knew that she flinched a little when she saw some of the potions being prepared...now she only could hope for the best!
The Quidditch Stadium was completely renovated and prepared to receive the event. In it, three different sections could be found, each prepared for the challenges corresponding to each age group.
Second Section:
There in the second third of the Stadium was a clearing, where in the centre was a cozy wooden cabin with a glass roof that offered spectators visibility into the humble building. It was a small hut, it only took up space for one internal room. The cabin was surrounded by a group of trees, but the vegetation was not as dense as it looked like in the first third of the stadium.
Once inside the cabin, those who would cross the threshold would find themselves surrounded by a dark, cold space provided by by the shade of the surrounding vegetation. The cabin was dimly lit, the only sources of light were three round fireplaces that were almost out and the embers were glowing weakly. The students knew what they would be looking for inside the cabin, so Melisande hoped that they would know what they should be looking for coming from the dying embers. The furthest corners of the hut were silent. For now... But perhaps that was where the brave participants could find what they were looking for? Once the adventurous students entered the inviting clearing their mission would prove to be quite difficult, of course! To achieve prestige the challenges could not be easy to overcome!
Melisande and Méabh were standing together, making themselves noticed among the seated spectators, as they waited for all the competition participants to arrive at the place where the last part of the Potions Championship would be held. Once all the contestants were present, Meli, with her voice amplified by the Sonorus spell, would finally address everyone present, "Dear students and honorer guests, welcome to the third and final part of the Potions Championship. As you can see, in front of you is not the usual sight that we are used to finding inside our Quidditch Stadium. The organisation of this event took liberties and transformed it into a more suitable setting for this contest.”
“Inside that small wooden cabin,” Meli continued pointing with her hand and outstretched arm towards the clearing in the middle of the Stadium, “There are three or two Ashwinders waiting for giving you a warm welcome to theirs nests. Your goal, is to steal two or three ashwinder eggs without setting the whole place on fire. You’ll need to use all your courage and wits to succeed in this dangerous mission."
"Completing your task should be your main goal, but let me remind you that you’ll lose points if you get yourself harmed or any of the Ashwinders. I hope you’ve done your best and brewed the most outstanding potions!” She merrily ended saying, giving the crowd one of her brightest smiles. It certainly would be entertaining!
“So when you are ready…” She started again, looking at the participating students with an encouraging nod and smile, “Remember you will only have one hour to finish this challenge, when the time is over so it is your opportunity to succeed. Time starts as soon as you enter your challenge field. In your case, as soon as you cross the gate in the fence surrounding the clearing. Time will stop counting when you return."
"Pay attention to your surroundings, remember everything you have learned so far, trust your companions and I’m sure you’ll be victorious! Good luck!” Then she would give them a signal, letting them know that they were free to enter the forest and start their challenge.

- Retrieve Ashwinder eggs from a wooden cabin. Be careful - the parents are still around.
- The groups will be judged and rated by a prestigious panel of international wizards, by the following criteria:1. Quality of the potions2. Successful completion of the task3. How fast they finished the task4. Injuries and other harm to the competitors5. Injuries and other harm to the beastsjjjj
- The tasks will be performed in the same groups that brewed the potions in the first and second part. Each member of the group will have one dose of each of the two potions they brewed to use - but be careful, their effect will depend on the success of the brewing stage, and a bad brew might harm more than help!
(This potion is IC only and only usable for this thread - there is no potion item associated with this.)
- The event has a total of three moderated rounds, after which the time is up! Your characters can perform one moderated action per round (incl. casting spells - think adventure threads, balls, sports etc.). Using a potion as a bonus action (can be performed additionally to the moderated action). You can use both potions in the same round, in this case one potion counts as the first moderated action and the second as a bonus action. Will your strategy lead to victory?
- Moderations take place roughly weekly. The deadline for posting is six days (144 hours) after the moderation is posted. The word requirement is 200 words per post.
- The top team of each age group is crowned victor and earns eternal glory for their schools. And of course, a magnificent golden Cauldron!
- OOC reward: One dose of a potion depending on your age group for every participant who has posted in every moderation round:1-2nd Year: Fire Breathing Potion
3-4th Year: Invisibility Potion
5-7th Year: Strengthening Solution

┌ ┐ Alyssea fiddled with the potions in her hands as she listened to the instructions for their task. Ashwinder eggs weren't a stranger to her, at the very least, with one of the broom racing tracks from last year having them. She did her research as well, asking some veteran racers how to handle the eggs. But having the parents around? Alyssea didn't pick Care of Magical Creatures as one of her electives this year, so if they learned something in that class, she had zero clue how to approach this.
One thing was clear from the instructions, though: retrieve the eggs without setting the whole cabin on fire. Don't injure the parents and don't injure yourselves. Easier said than done.
She took a deep breath and turned to Raizel and Zach. "Ready? You know what you're doing, right?" Because Alyssea kinda wasn't She quickly wiped her wand hand against her robes and tightened the grip on her wand. She was a bit worried the two of them would goof off, but they wouldn't, would they? The stakes were higher now that they were at the final task. They could very well get injured if they got distracted for just one second.
The signal went off, and after a few seconds, Alyssea walked in.└ ┘

The Wizarding Schools Potions Championship

While there are still traces of Raizel’s exhaustion on her face, gone was that usual sleepiness on it that she had shown when they were making potions. There are times when she just feels like goofing around, doing the bare minimum just to get things done or would joke around with her friends, usually with Zach as the two just have this habit of getting distracted from whatever they were doing. This time however, is not that. This was the final task and it would need all the focus they could muster to finish it right.
When things get serious, Raizel does as well, just like what she always does. She could feel the adrenaline already, thinking about what they are doing. Inside that hut, Ashwinder eggs that they need to retrieve. To make it more challenging, the parents are there. Just thinking about it is making her nervous but excited at the same time, signified by that grin on her face. Luckily she took Magical Creatures as an elective. The knowledge she had gained there could prove useful in this situation and Broom Racing had these eggs as part of the obstacles they needed to pass. While she hasn't encountered them on a track just yet, she has the basic idea of them.
They set things on fire, they will burn you if not handled correctly, the parents are nasty and they are still lurking inside. “I’m always ready for action.” Raizel said to Alyssea, drawing her wand and the other holding the potions they made. She waited until there was a signal for them to start. Alyssea took the first step and she followed after.▪ ▫ ◙ 283/200 ◙ ▫ ▪

The Wizarding Schools Potions Championship
Competition. Zach didn't realize that he actually enjoyed a competition so much. He stood near Alyssea and Raizel, listening to the instructions given by the professor. "Sounds exciting," the boy unconsciously mumbled when he heard about the Ashwinder. He had some when spectating broom racing but never got too close to the creatures yet. Had he studied the creature before? Not really. He just knew the basics of the creature but never learned it deeply. As long as the racers knew how to avoid it, he was already satisfied. He would rely the studying part on Alyssea and Raizel. They were reliable with this kind of thing. But it didn't mean that he would not do anything either. The boy silently looked at his friends' condition closely to prevent any injuries and make it as minimal as possible. They should be alive after all.
Zach followed Alyssea and Raizel behind. His wand was ready in his right hand and the Black Fire potion was ready on the other side. "I am ready," Zach smiled and gave Alyssea a nod. His heart was racing too much from excitement. What they would see inside the cabin? How would they go? He took further steps expecting many interesting ahead. "Let's take the eggs." He chuckled.

Wrapped tightly into her cloak to protect herself from the cold weather, Méabh had cheerfully pulled out her wand to point it at her own throat. "Sonorus." She was not part of the judges' panel - as an organiser, she was busy enough, and also likely not quite impartial as she was teaching most of the kids on the pitch right now, but she intended to enjoy herself to the fullest by commentating.Round: 1
"Next up, we have Alyssea Brown, Raizel Voltrouz, and Zach Zaphiere, representing Hogwarts!" Her voice was cheerful. "I believe they chose to brew a Black Fire Potion earlier. And off they go! Will they be able to find their quarry?"
"Looks like we already have quite a bit of fire with this group," Méabh narrated the obvious, orange and yellow flames licking up within the cabin. "Let's hope that Fire Protection Potion works, eh? Let's see how they do~"Black Fire Potion was successful. All three contestants are now fireproof.

"Ooooh." Méabh sounded perhaps a little too happy, even as she winced in sympathy with the spectacle down on the pitch. While Alyssea had conjured an impressive snow cloud which should both cool down the eggs and slow the spreading fire, her team mates were not as successful. "Raizel appears to have gotten herself in a tangle with an Ashwinder - literally. And Zach, in an attempt to help, immobilised his team mate! How will they get themselves out of this pickle?"Alyssea casts Nix Facitur.

- Raizel spotted five ashy trails and two eggs. She tried to immobilise the ashwinder next to one of the eggs but missed, and the ashwinder didn't appreciate that and is now trying to strangle her. She is also immobilised, thanks to Zach.
- Zach spotted all the ashy trails and all the eggs, but accidentally immobilised his team mate. Oops.

┌ ┐ The slightest bit of wind can trigger the Ashwinder eggs to catch fire, Alyssea reminded herself. Considering the air would be still with only the Ashwinders inside, the door opening and their very presence would trigger the eggs. As soon as the door swung open, she waved her wand and said, "Nix Facitur!"
Unfortunately, she wasn't quick enough and the cabin quickly went up in flames. Alyssea swore under her breath, greatful that she had the hindsight to drink the Black Fire Potion before coming inside. Instead of a stinging pain at her skin, the flames merely tickled. Well, they'd get points taken off for having the cabin on fire, but at least she'd slowed it down and they would come out mostly unscathed.
When Alyssea turned to Raizel and Zach, she wasn't prepared for the fear chilling her bones (or was that just the spell she cast?)
Now, mistakes were bound to happen, but this... oh, someone would die today if not handled right. By someone, most likely Raizel with the way the Ashwinder glared at her. Not good. Alyssea briefly looked at the eggs. Then, she turned and ran towards Raizel. Later. The cold will slow the fire for now.└ ┘

❂ --:-- ▎ --:-- ❂▪ ◚ ◚ ◚ ❂ ◚ ◚ ◚ ▪She was ready alright, ready to face whatever was inside, to face those Ashwinder and the challenge they present but what she wasn't ready for was her horrible luck. She had completely forgotten about how bad it could get, how the universe seemed to hate her so much. She had hoped it wouldn't strike that time, praying that she’ll be able to accomplish something. She had managed to muster the courage and confidence for this event, believing that it would be different.
She was wrong.
Once again, she was reminded of her cruel fate that she can't seem to change no matter what. The moment she saw the Ashwinder, her instincts told her to cast a spell despite trying to learn more ways that don't require relying on your magic. They were against Ashwinders and she didn't know anything about them. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why, despite how she casted her spell effortlessly, the Ashwinder was too quick for her. She wasn't expecting that kind of speed. “Oh shoot.” Raizel tried to step back but the Ashwinder was already in front of her, coiling itself around while letting out an angry glare. Raizel grinned, cold sweat ran down her temple as the two exchanged stares. She could feel it tightening, squeezing. While it doesn't hurt that much yet, she’d rather not find out how painful it was gonna be.
Raizel squirmed, struggled but to no avail. When she turned her head when she heard a familiar incantation from Zach, she hoped for it to become her key to freedom from the coils of this fiery snake. But again, she was reminded of how much the universe was trying to get her, how it wanted to continue revelling at her misfortunes that she's trying so hard to free herself from as if it was telling her that all her efforts were futile. Her only way of escape was taken from her in an instant, snatched away as always. She felt her whole body froze in place, leaving her as an easy target for the Ashwinder to squeeze.
Damn it! All she could do was curse in her mind. She tried to move despite the spell that she's under. No, she knew she couldn't just let it end like this. There was no way she's losing to some snake and a spell. Move! Footstep, rushing, Alyssea? No, she should be focusing on getting the eggs. Before all the misfortunes struck her, she saw how Alyssea was doing well compared to them. She could get an egg or two but she's rushing back to her and Zach to help. Perhaps she is underestimating the situation that she's in, thinking that she doesn't need any assistance and that Alyssea should just keep her focus on the egg to at least get a point for them. If she could speak, she would be yelling for Alyssea and Zach to just forget about her and handle the eggs, telling them that she could take on this Ashwinder and maybe, even the rest.
That’s a lie, however. In her current state, she could barely fend off one Ashwinder and needed all the help she could get. She’s actually glad that Alyssea is coming back to help her and that she has Zach around to assist as well. In a helpless situation like this, she knows she needs them, both of them, much like how she needed them to keep her grounded, to keep her sane by just merely being with her. Scared? Pulling her cloak tighter around herself, Méabh gulped down a quick sip of tea before continuing her questionable commentating of the spectacle down below. "This is easily one of the most entertaining groups we've had so far. They've gotten themselves into a tough spot entirely of their own making. How will they get out of it?"Round: 2
"Fire is spreading!" Méabh observed, watching it consume more and more of the wooden cabin. Smoke filled the space, and much of it was obscured by flames. "Even with an excellent Black Fire Potion, breathing in that much smoke can't be healthy. I'd recommend getting out of there quickly. Time's ticking!" But the three contestants still had an immobilised Raizel and her new pet ashwinder to deal with. While Zach seemed frozen from the shock of having hit his own team mates with his spell, Alyssea showed faster reactions.Zach missed his post, no rolls.
Environment: Base 50% chance that eggs spread fire, reduced to 20% due to snow (9-10):

"Kind of. Now... time is running out. How many of the three eggs will the contestants be able to get out of their fiery surroundings?"Alyssea casts Reducio.

Out of all the spells she could've chosen to subdue the Ashwinder with, Alyssea really had no clue why she chose to reduce the size of it in the end. But did it really matter why if it worked? Alyssea fought back a laugh at how tiny it had become, and stark contrast to the terrifying creature it was just moments before. Alyssea hadn't wanted a pet snake until this moment. Was it even possible?
Thankfully, no other Ashwinder thought to attack her while her focus was on Raizel, or attack Raizel while she was still down, or attack Zach who had frozen in place. "Zach!" Alyssea called out, only for the words she wanted to say die on her tongue the moment she inhaled. She coughed, wet and grating against her throat as the smoke settled into her airways.
Putting a hand over her nose and mouth, she said, "Get an egg and run! Accio it or something. I'll cover for you." She raised her wand, hoping they would at least make it out before the place collapsed on them. Screw the championship; as long as they made it out, Alyssea could not care less about the points they lost letting the cabin go up in flames.└ ┘
