Eun-ji didn’t wait for any kind of reaction after telling Eve about her last vote. She was not interested in arguing further and she could tell Peri didn’t want to linger any longer either. And who could blame him? The mint-scented air had grown thick with tension, like poison waiting to strike. If she wasn’t eager to stay, then he had all the more reason to want to remove himself from the situation. Luckily for him, Eun-ji was happy to oblige.

Locking their hands, the two Ravenclaws finally slipped back into the whirl of the ball. It was not hard to tell that there was plenty of mayhem happening while they gone… luckily, as it was later in the evening, things seemed to be settling down. A ball without deadly disaster? Who would have thought? The witch was almost impressed. However, all those thoughts were swiftly pushed aside once her partner in crime finally spoke up. Eun-ji shook her head, unwilling to let him make wrong assumptions and wallow in groundless self-doubt. While she understood why he felt that way, he was missing some vital points.

“I wouldn't be so pessimistic about it. I get why you might feel discouraged but her hostility is a gift wrapped in thorns.” She argued calmly. “Think about it - she was prickly before we even started playing the game and she barely knows me. There was no reason for that.” Eun-ji's lips curved into a knowing smile. “She acted like a child, seeing someone else holding a toy they desperately want.” Call it a woman intuition but she was pretty sure about that one. She might have fumbled with her own hearts matters, but reading others? That was as natural as breathing to her. “If she'd been sweet and welcoming, that would have meant you mean nothing to her. Or at least nothing more than a friend. But her senseless disregard of you? This spite?” Eun-ji shook her head. “That's jealousy in its ugliest form. Granted, she might have been a little bit too pissy about it, but the fault does not lay with you. It's most likely that she was just annoyed because she didn't understand her own reaction. Trust me, people can be incredibly oblivious when it comes to love and the frustration, which often accompanies it, is had to overcome.”

This was Eun-ji speaking from experience. A bitter smile twisted her lips as memories of her own obliviousness surfaced. Hana. Even thinking his name made something in her chest ache. She remembered how that oblivion turned to denial, and then, only after her feelings hit her like a curse this summer – sudden and violent, had they morphed into a reluctant acceptance. Not that she was happy about it. At least Peri seemed to have a fighting chance with Eve, but her and Hana? She hardly dared to entertain such fantasy. “Besides, Eve comes across like a very competitive person so people ganging up on her and not following her train of…” she paused for a moment, wondering whether to sugarcoat her words, considering Peri’s attachment but eventually decided against the idea. That was not who she was. “…flawed arguments, probably didn’t help her mood either so don't let it get under your skin, alright? She just needs time to figure it out.”

In truth, the witch still wasn’t happy with the Gryffindor’s attitude. Sure, she understood the twisted logic of it but that didn’t mean she had to like it. Even if Eve did not comprehend her own emotions at the moment, Peri and Eun-ji were merely playing at romance tonight, but Eve had walked in with Allister on her arm, all genuine smiles and no pretense so what right did she have to treat Peri that way? The Ravenclaw knew the redhead probably didn’t mean it but she always kept her own emotions on a tight leash so she simply couldn’t relate.

Too invested in trying to motivate her fellow housemate, Eun-ji failed to notice the handsome boy, who had so sneakily stolen her heart, reentering the ball area as well. It was not that she wasn’t thinking about him, rather she was scared to look for him in a crowd and witness him flirting with somebody else. “We should dance while we still can.” Looking at the offered hand, the ballerina smiled, her eyes sparkling with excitement. At last, something she could get behind one hundred percent. “Yes, please. I’d love that very much.” She nodded, accepting Peri’s hand without a moment of hesitation. Whatever happened to their plan, they deserved at least some fun.

A wave of relief washed over Ye-jun as he absorbed Tone’s words, the tension in his body easing ever so slightly. At the same time however, he couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head. “Now that’s a massive exaggeration,” he said, a smirk tugging at his lips. “Not even in my wildest dreams would I consider myself a sweetheart.” This, he firmly believed. Although his recent track record of losing his temper wasn’t exactly something to be proud of, he wouldn’t categorise himself as a bad guy. Sweetness however, was a quality he felt foreign to his nature. To be honest, he wasn’t even particularly friendly. His instinctual distrust of others often clouded his judgement, leaving people to describe him more as cool or self-assured rather than kind. “But hey, I appreciate the compliment.”

In truth, Ye-jun was pretty sure if there was someone, who deserved to be called a sweetheart, it would be Tone himself. He embodied the kind of friend everyone longed for, always ready to have your back. The Beauxbatons student was pretty sure that this cheerful and compassionate persona was not all there was to him, but that didn’t diminish the sincerity of his actions. Ye-jun held a profound respect for the younger boy, admiring his ability to stand by others without expecting anything in return. It might not be the healthiest way to live, but who was he to judge? His own ways were hardly any better.

“Hmm…not sure I agree with you on that one.” Ye-jun replied with a wry smile. “At the moment, my heart seems a bit too violent even for my own taste.” There was a touch of self-deprecation lacing his tone. “And while I’m endlessly thankful for your unwavering support and pulling me back before I royally to fuck up, you won’t always be there to do so.” Although fully aware that his new friend meant every word, Ye-jun wasn’t naive. The reality was a harsh mistress; they lived in different countries and attended different schools. “Unless you’ve secretly decided to move to France and forgot to mention it in your letters,” he teased, hoping to lighten the mood a little.

“I believe you. You just get caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time and can't help but let your protective side out, right?” Ah…a good argument but at a certain point, you could no longer hide behind that excuse. Ye-jun unfortunately, passed that threshold a while ago and couldn't pretend otherwise. “I’ve been getting caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time far too often recently. I’m not sure that excuse holds water for me anymore. Plus, it’s not always my protective instincts that get me in trouble.” After all, his struggle with anger management had kicked off when he hurt his classmates last summer and that was solely for his own gain. It wasn’t exactly heroic behaviour. Well, technically he was ‘defending’ himself, but that could have been handled differently. He was not weaker than those bastards, so he had no excuse for that particular act of violence. Not that he would ever tell Tone about it.

“Anyway… you’re right. Let’s shelve my flaws for a while and just pretend we’re normal teenagers. After all, this is one of the few Hogwarts balls that hasn’t ended in life-threatening chaos. We should really try to enjoy ourselves. Sooo, is there anything in particular you’d like to do?”

Tone grinned back at Ye-jun's words. "Hey, was that a smile I just saw?" He teased and closed the short distance between them, hopping up a little to drape his arm over Ye-jun's neck and shoulders. But of course, Ye-jun had to go and bring him back to reality and the cold harsh truth of the world and where they currently were. The boy's words were true but Tone had already thought of this and a smile was seen on his face. He'd already planned something regarding this.

Courtesy of Eun-ji, Tone knew when Ye-jun's birthday was.

So what Tone wanted to do had a double meaning, it served both as a birthday present and as a way to help Ye-jun out too when he wasn't there.

"Indeed. I won't be there with you when you return to your school." Tone confirmed and paused, reaching into his pocket to dig something out and another wide smile spread across his face as he looked back over at Ye-jun again. "But I made something for you... something that I hope will help you during times when you find it hard to pull back." Tone raised one of his hands up into the air before Ye-jun's face and uncurled his fist, letting a beautiful silver necklace dangle from between his fingers. It was a comforting cat necklace.

Many people had likened Tone to a cat and this necklace symbolized who he was. Not only did the beater love all types of animals, especially cats, but he also was independent like the felines and loved cuddling and being pet like certain types of kitties. He also would go out of his way to defend those he cared about and struck hard and fast like a feline might do. This particular necklace had the cat stretching its cute long arms out to the wearer's neck as if it wanted to stop them.

From doing something above. Or it could be looked at as just wanting a hug from them. There were many different interpretations. Tone reached out with his free hand and grabbed Ye-jun's hand to gently let the necklace descend into the palm of the other male. "Happy Birthday, Ye-jun. Eun-ji told me when your birthday was." The beater told him with a smile. "Want my help to put it on?" Tone asked with a cheeky grin and nodded at the necklace he'd given him.

"If you ever feel as if you might lose control of yourself when I'm not there, grab the cat and think of me. The cat symbolizes me reaching up to try and calm you down. Or if you ever need a hug, the cat can hug you too in the mental world. Think of the cat as being me." Tone said with a smile. "As for moving to France, unfortunately I will not be doing so. I have way too many responsibilities back at Mahoutokoro.

But you coming to Japan... if you ever decided to do that, I'd welcome you with open arms!"
Tone said with a smile. He didn't say anything about Ye-jun's words about other things getting him into trouble but filed that away for later. He pondered for a few seconds about Ye-jun's words about it being a non-chaotic ball and that they should enjoy themselves, asking if he wanted to do something in particular there. "Hmmm... not really. I tend to just wander around and take in the sights when I'm on my own. You?" Tone asked.

He was curious. What did Ye-jun do when he was alone?

Pericles' bitterness was as palpable as it was atypical. His eye strayed for the Great Hall doors, tempted by the notion of an early exit, while his defeated tone carried the cadence of a fox deeming grapes sour. Better to convince himself that he didn't want them. Yet Eun-ji, unsurprisingly, saw clean through the attempt. To hear their situation described as "a gift wrapped in thorns” was met with an eyebrow quirked by disbelief; he couldn't derive any poeticism from the interaction. “Think about it - she was prickly before we even started playing the game and she barely knows me. There was no reason for that.” "Unless she wanted to be left alone with her- date." The word nearly caught on his teeth, forced out as a cynical mutter. Whether or not Eve felt the same way, before all else, they two were friends. Injury lay in the thought that some dance partner could take precedence over that. Yet his fellow eagle identified jealousy as the culprit, deducing that somehow, Eve was envious of them. The only intended casualty of their team-up was supposed to be Hana. If Eun-ji was right, things were drastically different from how they appeared....

Annoyed because she didn't understand her own reaction. The thought caused a crack in his dubious expression, reluctant hope shining through. It sounded apt enough: Eve strove for self-control, and an unwelcome, unfamiliar emotion threatened that. Pericles understood the trait as one which they shared. He recalled the night of the Mistletoe Spin, the sharp sting of envy he suffered at the sight of smudged lipstick, and the ensuing anguish as he grappled with the identity of his feelings. What he had experienced and what Eun-ji described seemed one and the same. An unhealed piece of him feared that this was wistful thinking, that he risked losing what they had by asking for more. The other half began to doubt. “...people can be incredibly oblivious when it comes to love and the frustration, which often accompanies it, is hard to overcome.” Peri's tense posture slackened into resignation. He was torn, and whatever he was feeling, it was exhausting. "That I believe." She had given the glum mage something to unpack. While the cloud hanging over him hadn't dispersed, it had at least lightened.

The band struck up a song suiting this Gala Noir: a tango both charged and somber, painting the symphonic story of a standoff between a Detective and Lady in Red. Pericles took Eun-ji's hand in his, smile shaped by the understanding that neither was with their preferred partner. The irony might have been exquisite if it wasn't quite so cruel. Cellos hummed a syncopated rhythm, leading the duo to the beat of a solemn march. They danced as blue-blooded Ravenclaws in mesmerizing synchrony, each step or spin as graceful as it was meticulous. Pericles, a skater, acted as anchor and lead. His poise showcased a mastery of balance, stance solid as he guided Eun-ji through a twist, then fluid as he bowed her into a dip. Eun-ji, ballerina that she was, danced with seamless execution. Each movement carried a clarity of form only earned through dedication. As much as the show they put on was meant for Hana, Peri allowed himself to enjoy it, grateful to share the song with someone who made art of it. He spoke low beneath the desperate keening of a violin. "He was mad not to ask you, you know." Pear was projecting again, but at least the sly humor in his voice implied it was intentional this time.

There was only one counterargument to Eun-ji’s analysis and she did not bother commenting on it. Peri was perceptive enough to refute his own claim once his emotions settled - he was too clever not to. It went without saying that if Eve wanted to have a private moment with her date, she wouldn’t have joined the game in the first place. No, this wasn't about wanting to be alone. Eve got along just fine with every other participant, except maybe Matt but that was hardly surprising. That guy was like a splinter under the skin—irritating without even trying. So yes, Eun-ji was certain Eve must have been jealous.

Luckily, while her housemate did not share more than two sentences regarding the subject, he did agree with her at least to some extent. And though he may have not looked overly optimistic, his thoughtful expression spoke volumes. Thoughtful was good. One needed to take time to think about their feelings to figure them out... although perhaps not here. The Hogwarts ball might not have been the ideal place for love riddles, but it was perfect for what came next: dancing! Especially when many students decided to clear out and the first tones of tango tickled her ears.

She took Peri's hand, surrendering to the pull of the music. Eun-ji prided herself on her independence, wore it like armour in every other aspect of her life but dance…dance was different. While dancing, her behaviour shifted the exact opposite way. Freely surrendering to the other person and letting him take the lead without any resistance. Well, mostly freely. This was tango after all, where resistance was part of the game. A little push and pull was simply necessary. Like a little game of cat and mouse. Eun-ji always thought this particular dance was the most beautiful oxymoron. No other dance made you so close to your partner while demanding to wear a mask of reluctance.

Unsurprisingly, it took virtually no time for the two Ravens to find their rhythm. Both were excellent dancers and both enjoyed the art immensely. It was bound to show. For a moment, Eun-ji’s world narrowed to just the two of them. A tangle of red and black, moving across the dance floor seamlessly as if it was the easiest thing in the world. She twirled then dipped, falling backwards only to be caught by Peri’s strong arm with practiced grace. She let herself be pulled towards him, bodies pressing against each other as if they were lovers. By all accounts, Eun-ji should have been terribly uncomfortable, considering she did not do well with physical touch, but dance was different. In dance, intimacy transformed into something else entirely. No matter how close they got, the meaning was simply not the same. This was passion yes, but for the artistry. Her heart burned not for the body but for every beautiful movement. It was about the perfect arch of a spine, a perfectly timed steps and the precise angle of a turn.

Smiling, the witch circled the ivory haired boy like cat, all grace and hidden teeth, only replying to his remark once they were back facing each other. “Oh but I digress…” She purred playfully as they moved sideways, gliding across the floor in perfect sync. Only on the dance floor did she come alive like this. “I think not asking me was the first smart thing he's done ever since he started pestering me.”

Of course, it was not a conscious decision made by him. Most likely, the thought of asking her didn’t even cross Hana’s mind. In fact, did he think of her at all? What would flash through those beautiful eyes if he saw her now? Would jealousy twist his handsome features, or would she find only indifference? Eun-ji was almost scared to think about it yet she couldn't stop. “It has its benefits though. I get to dance tango with someone who actually knows what they're doing. That’s a memory to cherish, wouldn't you say?”

♥♥♥ Xiomara frowned as Aamon spoke about the girl who had just gotten engaged. It was not as positive as it had looked when she was snapping the photos. The girl was a victim? Trapped in a web? She had promised him that she would stay away, so she would do just that but she could not help the pull of her heartstrings. Guilt. Even though she had absolutely nothing to do with the situation, was it not bad for her to just stand by and watch it? Then again, what was an eleven-year-old supposed to do? She could barely manage to control the colour of her hair, let alone get involved in matters of someone's engagement.

Shaking her head, she tried her best to push the thought of her mind and focused on the dancing, and the person in front of her. Every so often, she would pull out her camera and take a photo or two before resuming the dance. After some time, she excused herself to grab a drink, kind of exhausted. She needed to rest her legs for a moment as her energetic dancing took a lot out of her. This gave her a chance to catch her breath too. As she had excused herself, she decided to pop to the washroom too. All of the juice had gotten to her bladder!

Returning, she found herself surrounded by chaos. She had no idea what she had missed, someone said something about a snake and another person mentioned dungbomb but she could not see anything specific. Lifting up her camera, she went ahead and grabbed a few more photos as she tried to spot any evidence of these things happening. They could have been rumours, they could have actually happened. Either way, she struggled to find her way back to Aamon in the chaos of everything.

She eventually heard a voice announce the end of the ball. Sighing, Xiomara looked around once more, trying hard to spot her date whilst also avoiding getting caught up in anything. Failing to see him, she sighed. Wait - was that him by the exit? Ugh, she had no idea as the figure left quickly.

Following suit, the Ravenclaw left the Great Hall kind of miffed at herself for getting lost in everything. She did not even get a chance to say bye to Aamon or thank him for the, otherwise, wonderful time - at least prior to her sudden departure. Darn her tiny bladder!

Misery loves company, as the saying goes, and some secret part of Pericles was glad he and Eun-ji shared their predicament. He had never cared much for matters of the heart. The wizard was a rational creature, averse to what he perceived as needless convolution, content with his friendships and wanting for nothing more. Trying to ignore this pesky feeling had enabled it to creep up on him like a predator, pouncing from the dark and pinning him at its mercy. The more he writhed beneath the weight of it, the deeper its claws sunk in, shredding his certainty to ribbons. Acknowledging its existence had granted him his first dose of relief. Sharing it with Eun-ji led to the second. That a fellow heir could glimpse him in a torn, vulnerable state as this and not look down on him for it opened an avenue of trust. She didn't compel him to hide his struggle or place blame on factors beyond his control (hormones, he'd been accusing for several months now). It was one thing to be seen, another to be understood, yet greatest of all to be empathized with.

Gratitude bled into the dance itself. Pericles' movements were mindful, his touches as few and fleeting as they had been through the night, though an onlooker could pin the instant in which going through the motions gave way to earnest enjoyment. Any chance he took was met in stride: Eun-ji twirled through every spin, leaned into each dip and pull, artfully answering his lead as though she could predict the moves before they were made. In a rather daring instance, he turned her leap into a lift, bracing the heels of his hands to her hips and hoisting her overhead. Pericles' face was taut with concentration, though it dissipated once the ballerina was back on the dancefloor and in his arms. One good eye shone as it met hers, seeing and being seen, two lovestruck birds forsaking their troubles for the length of a song. It didn't hurt that she was lovely, either. Eun-ji danced with Andalusian strength and grace. The perfect coifs of her hair had loosened into wilder waves, made all the more untamed by the violent red of her dress. There was a slyness to the eagle's half-stare as it wandered the sidelines, wondering if Hana was there to see her in all her dexterous splendor, darting away should Pear spy his face in the crowd.

From afar, they Ravenclaws seemingly swayed to the lyricless narrative. The Detective tested the Lady in Red's openings only to find none. She played along to his lead, occasionally outpacing him, each "clash" ending in collaboration. Tangos told a passionate tale of push and pull, diversion and connection, sublime harmony found in the midst of struggle. As much as Pericles was still seeking resolution to his tormented song, he could appreciate not having to dance it alone. Yet in typical Dralt fashion, he kept the feeling to himself. Eun-ji's purred words elicited a snicker. "Dancing at all during a ball is a nice change of pace," he drawled. "A memory in itself. Usually we'd be caught up in a duel by now. Though, if he does come around, you ought to give him some grace. I don't think I'd have had the gall to ask you, either, if our stars hadn't aligned just so. You're a formidable witch." The tease was accompanied by a rare wink. At the final poignant wail of a violin, their tango came to a close with the duo at the end of one another's outstretched arms. Pericles could feel his blood still thrumming to the rhythm. Turmoil had been shuffled to the back of his thoughts, leaving him aglow with satisfaction, and- caught up in the thrill of the moment- the tall mage stooped to press a chaste kiss against the knuckles of Eun-ji's glove. "Between you and I, I think I'll work on being a bit braver myself," he confessed, squeezing her hand before his slid away. "You've given me something to think on." No elaboration followed. Whether Pericles sought the bravery to move in or walk away from his situationship, he was at least on a path towards closure, and could only hope Eun-ji managed to plot her course in turn. "I wager the band still has a song left in it, should you find a partner... or, should a partner find you. As for me, I think my bed might have the answers I'm looking for. Goodnight, Eun-ji. And good luck."

Despite many students leaving, the grand hall of Hogwarts was still alive with the sound of music, chatter, and the soft shuffle of elegant shoes across the polished floor. Ye-jun shot Tone a brief, bemused smile, shaking his head a bit. “Yes, I’m known to smile…occasionally,” he said coolly, though the warmth reserved for his closest friends only, lingered in his tone. Even with tussled hair, caused by Tone’s arm around his neck, he looked every bit the handsome young man he was—confident, composed, though perhaps a little distant, his quiet demeanor often mistaken for coldness. Beside him, Tone was the complete opposite. All energy and eyes constantly glinting with excitement, his bright smile practically lighting up the room as he bounced on the balls of his feet. Yet he never seemed to mind how stoic Ye-jun could be at times. And tonight, the air between them felt just a little more charged than usual. Perhaps because they had seen each other for the first time after a long time.

Lost in thought, the Beauxbatons student almost missed his friend’s fingers slipping into his pocket. He did pay attention when they came out however, revealing a delicate silver necklace with a small, intricately crafted cat pendant. Ye-jun blinked, momentarily taken aback. The necklace was beautiful—cute but with an understated strength to it. The cat was smart in its design, its eyes seemingly watching over him. “Happy Birthday, Ye-jun. Eun-ji told me when your birthday was.” Ye-jun arched an eyebrow in surprise. “My birthday is still three months away though…” He commented, his lips curling into a small, amused smile as he ran a finger over the cat’s sleek form.

When the Mahoutokoro student pressed the necklace in his hand, Ye-jun’s smile faltered for a moment. No one had ever given him something so thoughtful before—let alone something that held such a personal meaning. “I...Thank you…I really appreciate it,” Ye-jun said, his voice low but sincere, his gaze lingering on the necklace now lying on his palm. Despite his genuine gratefulness though, he hesitated. He had always been someone who kept his distance. Someone, who preferred to keep things impersonal and controlled. But the necklace felt important, more than just a gift. Accepting it seemed like a big deal but somehow, he couldn’t even imagine refusing.

After a brief moment, Ye-jun handed the necklace back to Tone and turned around slowly, his back now facing the younger boy. “Yeah…help me put it on. The backup guardian might come in handy, when you are not around.” He said, his voice hesitant yet trusting. The grand ballroom of Hogwarts shimmered under golden lights, the soft hum of tango music filling the air. Ye-jun stood at the edge of the dance floor, his sharp eyes scanning the crowd, his dark hair falling slightly into his eyes, his posture effortlessly regal, hiding the emotional turmoil. Thankfully a distraction came soon enough. “Ah…Eun-ji's back.” His cousin’s name slipped out as soon as he noticed her on the dancefloor. It was a sight to behold, with her partner matching her level of skill effortlessly. It looked like their dance was just ending but even those few moments were a pleasant picture to witness. Good. She is having fun then…

𝓢lender fingers curled around the crook of @Allister-Jameson MacAllister's elbow as they made their way back to the gala proper. A bitter taste lingered in Evelynn's mouth, the mystery game having somewhat fizzled out with a somewhat anticlimactic reveal. The Gryffindor cast one last glance back towards where she'd parted ways with the rest, concern for Winnie still clinging. With a centering breath, however, she pulled her attention back to her partner, reminding herself that the whole point of tonight was to try to actually let loose a little bit and at least try to have some fun. And barring that, at least be a suitable date to make sure AJ had fun and didn't regret attending with her.

"Well, here we are," she announced, motioning a hand towards the various food items. AJ had said that he was hungry, their steps following the lure of his stomach. "And not a drop of rain in sight. What a concept," she noted dryly. A chocolate mousse dessert caught her eye. It appeared as though someone had attempted to make it look like it was drenched in blood, but a finger sampling of the glaze confirmed it to be raspberry. She contentedly helped herself. Savoury sweets always did seem to take the edge off.

"Did you have fun in the game?" She wondered, waiting for AJ to pick himself out something before easing herself into a nearby chair. "I will admit, I was not expecting that early deception from Winnie..." She took a moment to savour the rich flavour off the spoon before continuing. "And I am a bit disappointed that it took me so long to catch on." Brows furrowed even as she crimped her lips, thinking back on the events. "Am I really so untrustworthy?" Her spoon sunk down to the dish, her gaze fixed on the dessert, perhaps to protect her from seeing AJ's immediate reaction to her question, perhaps to avoid acknowledging the crimson dress that had circled around to the near side of the dance floor. "Nobody seemed to believe me. Nobody seemed to even want to believe me."

Those who had seen the magnificently lovely vision that had been the sixth-year Ravenclaw Aly Salinger before she had left for the Haunted Halls might not have recognised the bedraggled sight that staggered back into the decorated Great Hall some time later. Her dress, layers of tulle and ribbons in various shades of brown that had once appeared to have stepped directly off the screen of an old-timey Muggle sepia film, now seemed to more aptly fit into an action movie, as its entire front was covered in a thick layer of dust and debris, as was the Ravenclaw's face and her magnificent mane of hair. Some of the dust around her eyes had been smeared, but she still kept the right one tightly closed, flickering slightly as though she was trying to blink the debris away without actually opening it. A vermillion stain of blood adorned the fluffy fabric of her left sleeve, matching similar small smears all over her face and a small trail dripping from her lower lip as though she had spat some out earlier. No, perhaps action movie wasn't quite accurate - zombie film was more like it. And the lack of grace with which she stumbled into the Great Hall seemed to match the undead vibe, though of course, she was alive and well and had simply caught the brunt of some collapse's spray of rubble within the Haunted Halls.

In truth, Aly had no intention of staying and simply needed to pass through the Great Hall in order to get to the Hospital Wing and, then, the Ravenclaw commons, where a night of debriefing with her best mates, cleaning oneself up, and resting awaited her. On the other side of the Hall, she spotted the tall, white-haired, and black-clad figure that was unmistakably one of these aforementioned best mates, Peri, taking his own leave - setting an excellent standard which Aly was all too happy to follow. Chalk one up for another useless Hogwarts ball. Why do I even bother coming to these anymore? And yet, even as the thought passed through her head, she knew that she would be right back at it in the spring, full of newfound hope and vigor that maybe, just maybe, she'd make it to the dance floor this time.

Emphasis on the maybe.

As Aly slipped by the food tables, her gaze firmly set on the door from which Peri had slipped on the other side of the hall - her shortest way out of here, and one that would hopefully avoid all of the young couples that had no doubt filled up the surrounding corridors looking for a moment by themselves - her stomach growled, a loud, grumbling sound, and Aly was helpless to resist. She hadn't eaten anything since lunch, having fully intended on helping herself to a slice (or three) of the now-picked-over three-tiered cake, and she let her eyes wander from her escape route for just a moment. Just enough time to pluck a scarlet cupcake, adorned with a pile of white icing and similar red drips, from the tables she was passing - and immediately rid it of the fake glass piece atop it, no doubt some kind of melted sugar. Normally the Ravenclaw wouldn't have passed up an even stronger sugar rush, but at the moment she'd had enough of glass. She paused just momentarily to unwrap the cake and pop a bite of it, icing and all, into her mouth, and that's when it happened - she saw her.

Stopping had been a bad idea in the first place, but now Aly froze in her tracks.

Eve's crimson curls were a darker shade than the cherry-coloured sweet that sat half-touched on the plate in front of her, each lock of hair perfectly styled and coaxed into a well-shaped bob that did seem more vintage, classier perhaps, than any else Aly had seen. A vision in black, her skin seemed more pale than usual, as if perhaps all the blood had been leeched out of her and unto her plate; the dark fabric draped beautifully upon her slender frame, a sweetheart neckline and off-the-shoulder sleeves complimented with a bevy of matching accessories such as gloves, earrings, and a moste majestic hat. Aly herself had felt pulled-together before the ball, a beauty herself (until a cascade of debris had taken that away from her), but Eve? She was breathtaking.

Indeed, Aly forgot to breathe for a moment.

By the time she remembered that that was, y'know, necessary for survival, it was too late and the bite of cake and icing caught in her throat; coughing loudly and remembering only when sugary sweet mixed with irony tang that some of the dust and shards had gotten into her mouth, and that was part of the reason as to her trip towards the Hospital Wing in the first place, Aly stumbled backwards, the urge to grab a nearby goblet of whatever liquid she could find and swig it all down to clear her esophagus overpowering. Her blind hands fumbled round the tables before remembering. Liquid. Eve.

Suddenly filled with an overwhelming sense of calm, Aly reached into her pocket and pulled out the antidote.

She had realised at camp. Gotten the ingredients at Diagon. Brewed it in her dormitory. Avoided Eve in the halls until she could work up the courage to take it. Why her mind had decided that now, bloodied and spitting up dust and cake combined in the Great Hall less than twenty feet from her one-sided beloved, was the right time, Aly had no idea - but it was the right time, and for once, there was no anxiety accompanying the decision, unlike what she had felt the entire process of getting this potion. She uncorked it and took a look once more at Eve, all of her other issues - the eye, the tongue, the dust, the cake, the dress - fading away, leaving nothing but the fast, pitter-pattering thumps of her heart behind, rushing a rhythm in her ears.

Moment of truth, Salinger.

If she took the potion and her feelings dissipated, she had definitely been dosed with Love Potion, and that was the reason for these thoughts about someone who she thought had only considered her a friend. If she took the potion and they didn't dissipate... well... Aly didn't want to think about that yet. Best to check first and see before dissolving into wild accusations and leaps to conclusions.

The vial hit her lips, and then she paused.

Did she even want to know? Or was she all right with continuing on as she had these past few months, staring at Eve from afar like some obsessed, besotted fanatic, making up excuses to leave when she entered a room for fear of vomiting on her shoes or some other equally embarrassing thing that would make sure the redhead never thought about her again, much less spoke to her? Was she okay with never knowing?

No, came the answer, almost immediately. I am a Ravenclaw. I must know.

She tilted the phial back, letting purplish concoction wash cake, dust, and worries alike away.

After a few moments of studying Eve and her unfamiliar date further, Aly turned and left the room, her answer known. Whether it was what she had expected or not, none could really say - not even the Ravenclaw herself. But if any chose to look at her dust-covered face more closely as she fled from the Great Hall, they might have seen two small, clean lines drawn in the debris upon her freckled cheeks, painting a very clear picture from the bottoms of her eyes down to where they met at the tip of her chin. Expected or unexpected was not the question, but rather, if the answer had ever actually been wanted in the first place.
