Date : December 17th, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said "That was another critical failure." Sere exclaimed as she saw Avis, a duellist from Ravenclaw Team, who had shown good back-to-back performances in, had to be knocked back several distances from her place because of the failure in cast The Knockback Jinx. "Stay focus, guys." The moderator gave advice, not only to Avis, but to all the duelists on the piste. Two firebacks in one game was not the worst, but considering the duel had only been going on for 4 rounds, of course it was not a good thing to continue.
Maisie was able to save the team's position this time, providing balance through The Fire-Making Spell which managed to hit Alyss, and even lit it up aflame. On the Slytherin side, Saunders who was still sneezing tried his luck once again by casting the same spell, Verdimillious, still at the same opponent. Unfortunately, the result was also the same. He missed by only a small gap. "That was, again, a miss." Sere hoped that Saunders' condition would be better in the next round. She hadn't seen much of his performance in good condition.
Alyss, who previously seemed to be very fond of her Flipendos, changed her strategy this time by casting The Dancing-Feet Spell. The Viper tried to make Maisie lose control of her own feet, but the Raven skillfully evaded it. Sere felt that she should keep an eye on Alyss more often when she saw her concerning condition. "Okay, next round. Start!"

Ready. That was the tone the girls had set. And yet there was no way they, like Alyss before, them could have anticipated the way Avis' wand blew up in her face, pushing her backward as the result of a misfired Flipendo. Wincing, Maisie extended a hand in case Avis needed help getting back up. "You all right?" she asked, checking in on her best friend with a little self-deprecating humor, "At least you didn't set the common room on fire, ha." Her own critically failed spell around the holiday period still lingered her mind. She was ashamed of it, but she knew Avis had no reason to feel that way. There were known risks on the block; it was part of the social contract of the sport.
But that wouldn't deter them. In fact, despite the hoopla, both girls had managed to deftly dodge incoming Slytherin attacks. She acknowledge this with a gentle nod to Avis, taking Sere's words about focusing into account. There was still plenty of time and things could change again as Sere announced the start of the next round.
Shifting her feet, Maisie took a breath. With Avis at her side, she knew they could do anything, including this. This just had to stay focused—and ready.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!

On seeing that Avis' spell had so delightfully backfired, Saunders flashed a keen and feline grin that he would hardly have thought of as honourable under other circumstances. His earnest plea to fortune, it seemed, had found a response. "Betray them this time," he had mused as he fell to his knees before Lady Fortuna, the most famous supplicant in the grand folly of life, in the vast reverie of his mind, and lo, it seemed that she had decided --not with unqualified generosity but with a slight inclination-- to be a tad favourable towards them, that unfaithful saintess. ‘Thanks," he murmured inaudibly as he crossed his fingers beneath the concealing veil of his hand.
Although... there was the fact, an undeniable fact, that Alyss was aflamed. Life, after all, could be seen, after a certain blue fashion, as a succession of interlocking strands of travails. "Hey," the Napier boy said, with a subtle note of tenderness in his voice, "hang in there, you can do it!" Saunders harboured no doubts concerning his words - Alyss was indeed a stalwart ally, and though she looked rather gaunt compared to the initial stages of the duel, he was fairly confident that she would exert herself to the best of her abilities. "She possessed the unyielding mettle of a Slytherin," Saunders thought.
Whilst it is a mildly reprehensible thing to rejoice in one's own well-being when one's friend is in poor shape, Saunders felt a great, indeed "colossal" joy as his nose was eased after a long and infuriating bout of sneezing. Even though he wasn't sure how this fitted in with duelling etiquette, "Come on now!" he called out to Maisie, the girl that he would never have guessed could be this menacing, especially while having that little satchell, "I thought your problem was with me."

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
Avis gripped her best friend’s offered hand with her own shaky one, pulling herself to her feet with a muttered ‘thanks’. Her cheeks flared with embarrassment and a bit of anger as she replayed in her head the moment her own wand had backfired on her just seconds earlier. The girl winced at the new collection of bruises forming on her elbows but it was mostly her pride that hurt the most. She glanced up at Maisie’s probing question and looked away in annoyance at herself.
“I’m fine,” she said through gritted teeth, her anger showing through in her voice. It seemed her best friend had picked up on it, however, as her mention of an earlier mishap in the common room made Avis let out a reluctant chuckle. She’d of course heard all about Maisie’s misadventure with the pixies and half of Ravenclaw it seemed and the two had had their fair share of giggles about it. Avis began to feel her anger fade as she loosened up… only for it to come back in a rush at Saunder’s Cheshire grin from across the piste. Avis felt her nostrils flare involuntarily and her eyes turned to slits at his vocal barb towards Maisie. Avis couldn’t help but respond with her own jab.
“Oi don’t get your fancy knickers in a twist, Napier. We were just waiting for you to put down the tissues and join the duel!” she sang out with a grin of her own as she noticed the effects of her hex had finally disappeared from the Slytherin’s nose. Avis’ confidence might still have been a bit shaky but she was never one to refrain from a bit of lighthearted banter.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
December 17th, 2024 Duelling Club“English” “Gaelic”
Despite how much Alyss despised being wrong, she was alright with it in this case. Yet again, Alyss looked to see two wands pointed directly at her. She had burst into flames and prepared for another Flipendo- likely the one to send her out of the duel- but it hadn’t come. She was left untouched from Avis, but the girl was not left untouched herself. It was a tragedy how many backfires were happening in this match. Perhaps they should simply try again a different day, and postpone the duel. Alas, that’s not how that worked, and even with the second backfire in the match, the duel continued.
It hurt Alyss as she watched Avis get hit by her own spell, the same that had happened to her. It wasn’t fun, which she had experienced on her own. Other than that, nothing else had necessarily gone the snakes way. Both she and Saunders had missed their marks, and Maisie had hit hers. The worst part? Saunders turned to look at her, and said “Hey, hang in there, you can do it!” Did she look so bad that he worried she would quit? Now, while Alyss was certainly hurt, she would not, and would never quit. “I know we can.” she hummed in agreement, before pressing her lips together. The flames really hurt.
And the came the talk. First from Saunders, seemingly defending her. A stupid move, trying to direct their attention to him. But perhaps a noble one. It didn’t take long for Avis to shoot back something about fancy knickers and Saunders needing to join the duel. “Will both of you quit it? It’s a duel, not a debate. Stop your yapping and pick up your wands.” she sneered, equally at Saunders and Avis. Alyss was not the best with her words, which is why she didn’t engage in any sort of activity that would lead to a verbal confrontation. She tended to lose her temper. With a duel, she could let out all anger in the form of magic, no fancy words needed.
“We’re still in this, Saunders. Focus.” She said quietly, reminding him of their purpose here. Not to make friends, or to chat, but to duel.

Date : December 17th, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said The match was halfway through, with some brief intimidating exchanges but still tolerable, when Sere saw a duellist from the Slytherin team, with the last amount of her energy and her body engulfed in magical fire, casted her signature Knockback Jinx towards her opponent. Alyss managed to cast a Flipendo and aimed perfectly at Maisie. "You're doing goo--- Oh no," Just as she was about to praise the girl, a Flipendo from Maisie sent the girl flying far away and finally unconscious.
"Time out,"
Sere raised her right hand, her eyes scanning all corners of the Duelling Club and luckily found some of her acquaintances not far from her. "Sorry to bother you guys, but could you help me for a moment? Take this girl to the Hospital Wings. Thank you." The Gryffindor girl watched Alyss disappear behind the entrance before turning to the remaining duellists on the piste and saying, "They're trustworthy. She should be fine after a little rest."
Sere blinked, just realizing that Avis had lost her wand from her hand. She had only heard that the girl was about to bring Saunders back under the effect of the Sneezing Hex, a moment before she focused more on the knocked-out Alyss. Seeing that Saunders looked very fine, it was a clear miss. "You succeeded with your Expelliarmus? Impressive." Sere gave a respectful nod to the Viper, then signaled them to start the next round.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!

"I thought your problem was with me."
"Don't flatter yourself, Napier," she scoffed after Avis, "Didn't your mother ever tell you it's not very becoming?" Of course, he was correct: with his quaffed hair and holy-art-thou attitude, he was the pebble in her shoe. Alyss, unfortunately, just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time: right across the way from Maisie's wand.
The Flipendo was smooth and easy and hit the Slytherin girl squarely. It was more than necessary to knock the girl out and yet somehow Maisie, who had never knocked anyone out, went slightly wide eyed when it actually happened. The blonde fell back as expected, but she didn't get up. And as Sere called for a time out, Maisie felt a tinge of guilt.
And it was perhaps in that moment of surprise that the last spell Alyss had cast managed to connect with her body, hesitating, and the magic flung her back. As she caught her breath, Maisie could feel exhaustion and pain setting in as it had when she'd been on this stage with Tracey before. And somewhere out of the corner of her eye, she spied—
"Your wand!" With a pointed finger, she tired to direct Avis in the direction of her precious wand. Whether she would see it too was another question. All these spells Saunders was throwing out were unexpected. He had to have a private tutor or something; he seemed the type. And if that was true, he had plenty of other advantages too.
But there was something she had he didn't have: grit. Standing up slowly, she gripped her wand as tightly as she could and gave Avis a nod of reassurance. This wasn't over—
—not yet.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
Avis bit back a retort to Alyss which turned out to be unnecessary as it would’ve fallen on deaf ears anyway. She watched with wide eyes as a few of Sere’s classmates helped the unconscious Slytherin off the piste and despite their opposition during the duel, Avis sincerely hoped the girl would be alright. Even so, she gave Maisie a subtle congratulatory nod. Her Flipendo had been performed with flawless grace, unlike her own Steleus which her intended target had quite easily evaded.
To add to the general misfortune on the piste, it seemed Alyss had also managed to get off her own Flipendo as Avis watched her partner fly backward in a sudden whoosh of blue. In a quick sequence of events, the Ravenclaw had no time to respond as she felt her wand being violently tugged from her grasp by an unexpected Expelliarmus. It flew somewhere behind her and Avis scowled at a solo yet successful Saunders from across the dias.
“Bollocks,” she muttered distractedly as she turned to look for her wand, glancing up as Maisie alerted her to its presence. Her eyes trailed after the direction her friend had pointed in, her eyes scanning the ground desperately as their opponent prepared himself for another round. Blast it all. Where was the damn thing? And did she have time to search for it before Saunders started blasting at them again?

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!

And the expected came to pass. Alyss, struck by the final Flipendo casted squarely at her, was now in no condition to continue the duel. Before bidding farewell to the duelling scene, though, she had not neglected to give Saunders a thorough scolding. Clearly, she was not that supportive of her comrade’s penchant for verbal sparring. "Good thing I learned this," Saunders thought, tucking this piece of information away in a corner of his mind. Yet, he couldn’t help but marvel, "Who doesn’t enjoy a good war of words, though?" After all, a well-articulated, subtly insinuating remark could, at times, be more effective than a sword strike. Saunders, unlike Alyss, evidently had a greater appreciation for this particular pleasure of life, the art of "handbags at dawn", a skill bestowed upon only humankind.
As Alyss was being carried away from the Dueling Arena by a few of Sere’s Gryffindor friends, Saunders strode over to her side. Though unsure if she was in any state to comprehend his words, "Thank you for everything," he quickly whispered, "you were truly amazing." After a slight and respectful nod, his gaze turned back to the eagle gang. Now, he was alone against two.
Then he remembered the truth that had momentarily slipped his mind due to Alyss’s condition: he had disarmed Avis. This meant that dear and beloved young lady's distinguished bodyguard was now deprived of the only instrument she could use to launch an attack against him. The Napier boy suddenly felt his chest swell with pride. It wasn’t as though he had never used the Expelliarmus before, but this was the first time he had cast it in a duel, and at the exact moment it was direly needed. Had Avis still been holding her wand, he would have been in a much worse situation. "This buys me some time," he thought.
"Let's cross the Rubicon," he mused as he raised his wand once more toward his opponents. "The fate of this duel is about to be decided."

Date : December 17th, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said This round was not the typical where the spells flying here and there with such a fanfare. There was only one spell flying from the Slytherin team. Saunders who saw an advantageous position executed the right offensive move with The Fire-Making Spell, but this move was also too easy to read. Sere would also take a defensive move if she were in Maisie's position. Sere knew from the start, even since the previous duel, that Maisie was a talented roster candidate. The dodge she did just now made Saunders' Incendio miss. Sere could judge that the spell would went success if Maisie stood still on where she was.
Ravenclaw's teamwork was also revealed further in this round. Sere could see the chemistry between the two. Maisie tried to give a hint about the location of Avis' wand so that the girl who seemed still confused in finding the object could get it in the next round, if her eyes were sharp enough as well as her movements were agile enough. Sere herself could also see the position of the wand and folded her arms to restrain herself from giving out the location to the Ravenclaw team.
"Okay, I hope you all could stand on this piste for a little longer," Sere raised her face, glancing at both sides: green and blue, before shouting, "Seventh round, start!"
