❂《 ⌜ January 6, 2025 ▎ After Classes ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Another year, another brand new start and in Raizel’s case, probably new sets of misfortunes like whatever horrible luck she had last year would carry through into this year as well as adding more to it. Setting that gloomy thought aside though, the Gryffindor decided that it would be fun to hold another race just like what she did during her second year. Whenever she feels horrible and close to breaking down into pieces and tears, Broom Racing somehow cheers her up, maybe not just because of it having a lot of available spells for use compared to duelling but perhaps it was because of how freeing it feels whenever she flies on her broom. And maybe, she hopes that this sport will love her back more than duelling does.
Alyssea Brown is one of those people that she asked first to join. A broom racing captain yet she rarely has the chance to take flight to the skies and join the race. What better ways for her to do so than to join in on unofficial events like these and besides, racing on your first day back at Hogwarts can be fun, feeling the wind and soaring through the New Year’s skies. Aside from her, there are a few people that she knows. Fellow Duelling Co-Captains, Prat Pass and Cass Ito. Prat is that guy that reminded her of herself when she was on her duelling streak and that’s probably what made them friends at least. Cass is that person that she found stuck in a hoop for some reasons that she couldn’t recall, something about Quidditch strategy? Hope that went well for them. Then there’s Ulysses Drake.
Ah, yes, Ulysses. Raizel had her eyes on him the moment he arrived before taking off on her own broom, that trusty Firebolt that she misses so much. Her Silver Arrow is back in the shed this time, letting it rest. Anyway, the reason for her gaze on the Slytherin was because of last year’s fall ball. He was Alyssea’s escort, her date. That had made her so interested in him, in their relationship but of course, she’s not the person who could just walk up to them and say ‘Hey! Are you guys dating?’. No. If there was any person that could do that, it would probably be Zach. Eventually, she averted her gaze and went back to the racers.
The rest of the people who signed up were, let’s say, strangers to her. First years and none that she knows off. Nabi Park, Slytherin. Nothing much she can say about her but hopefully, she’s not that bad. The same goes for Janosch Dehoff, Ravenclaw. Maybe it was time to expand her circle of acquaintances but truth be told, she’s afraid. Not after her circle of friends started shrinking, not after when each one of them had become nothing but memories and strangers. And besides, what if her luck rubs off of them? She won’t be able to forgive herself if that is indeed the case.
“Alright! Take your places!” They probably had enough time for introductions and preparations and she’s sure they are all ready for racing.

┌ ┐ Was Alyssea insane for racing one day after everyone had just come back from winter break? Maybe. The tough part about being a captain of one sport that was a player of another at the time of their appointment was the amount of time it was taking her to get on the official roster of the team she captained. Of course, if she was still a duellist, then she would've been content to stay there now that she was a captain of that sport. But now she'd spent the last year hopping around every field since leaving Duelling, initially trying to get onto the Racing team before filling an empty spot in Quidditch, and never feeling content.
Thankfully, unofficial races could fill those gaps.
She expected to walk onto the pitch as the only one who could probably pull their weight. Then, as it turned out, her teammates were @Ulysses Drake and @Janosch Dehoff. While Alyssea was largely unfamiliar with Janosch (who was probably a First year), she could trust Ulysses to pull his weight. The boy ran her first ever race and did a decent job throwing rocks; he was also one of Slytherin's beaters, so there was no doubt he could hit hard. Probably as hard as Alyssea's spells.
Alyssea grabbed the two of them and leaned in to whisper. "Right. Fly fast, fly hard, and try to keep it clean. Try to keep your speed, but stay alert." She patted Janosch on the back. "I'm Alyssea, in case I forgot to say. Hufflepuff Racing Vice-Captain. Here's the plan with you..."└ ┘

AEIOUSAA day right after school starts? Prat couldn't understand why Rai would pick a day soon as Prat had taken part in a few broom races by now. They had been.....an experience. While Broom racing wasn't as fulfilling to Prat as Duelling or Quidditch. It did have it's own charm. Something Prat was more than happy to indulge in said sport. Thus it was no surprise when he agreed to Rai, as much as he might be regretting his decision now. He had no intention of playing a sport this early back to school. In addition the events that had transpired almost took away his attention from most things going on. The absence of a certain someone along with the upcoming announcement of someone else's arrival in his life plagued his thoughts.
There wasn't enough time to mull over broom racing strategy, he just hoped whoever his teammates were knew what they were doing. Resigning himself and his action to the wills of his potential teammates was not a bright idea in his mind. Something about his innate sense of wanting to always have control over all that involved him, a trait some would please while others might hate. Fortunately for him, his teammates were Nabi and Cass, both of whom he had known for quite a while now. He could consider them as friends and felt a little at ease knowing he had teammates he could easily coordinate with.

New Year's Skies
Jan Dehoff had signed up for the race because Nabi Park had mentioned in passing—not as an invitation, but a quiet remark as they left their last class before winter break. She had mentioned about the race’s sign up sheet and murmured something about it being “worth the try”, unsure whether the suggestion was meant for him or herself. Still, the words had stuck. Jan hadn’t expected much to come with it, beside the faint idea of pairing up with someone familiar to make the race less daunting.
But the list that met his eyes this morning dashed that hope quickly enough. His name sat beneath two others he didn’t recognize while Nabi had been assigned to his opponent team. Darn, he’s racing against her. With a tiresome ache settling on his legs from climbing up and down the stairs, Jan headed to the track for the first time. The snowy expanse stretched out before him, accompanied by a couple of racers preparing their broom in the cold.
Jan took his time to observe the track as he made his way to the gathering racers. He was busy gathering a strategy on his own when he let out a yelp out of a sudden. “Oi!” A hand gripped his shoulder, pulling him away from his reverie. He turned to find himself face-to-face with two unfamiliar people—one was a brunette girl with a jock vibe and one was a lanky, charming dark-haired boy.
“Right. Fly fast, fly hard, and try to keep it clean. Try to keep your speed, but stay alert.” The girl told the two boys. She continued on by introducing herself to Jan. A vice-captain for Hufflepuff’s racing team? No wonder. “Hi, I’m Jan Dehoff,” he smiled at her, trying to keep the introduction short so they could get into their discussion of the plan. Throughout the discussion, the Ravenclaw boy just gave a silent nod at her instructions. All he can think during that is hoping he won’t end up in Hospital Wings by the end of the race.

I did not expect the race to be fresh after winter break... Her eyes narrowed in thought glancing at the signup sheet she had seen before she had gone back home for her break; I wonder who will be in attendance. Nabi did not know what to expect regarding the track's layout and who her teammates would be, and that only served as flint to her curiosity.
The evening air was cold like needles to her face as she walked to the designated meet-up area. She noticed the young boy she had met not too long ago, he seems nervous...perhaps even excited... Noticing the young Dehoff getting pulled by the girl with the deafening voice she had crossed paths with during a dueling match; Nabi decided to refrain from bidding a good morning.
She walked over to the two other students in attendance, concluding they were her teammates. Nabi gave a slight nod to Prat and the other student she had never met, debating if she should introduce herself to the young student. With a soft hum, she placed her attention on them, I suppose I ought to, they are my teammate, after all
Nabi's expression, much like her voice was blank. Any hint of excitement or curiosity she felt toward the race, was not visible.

Initially, Uly had planned to have a chill afternoon after his classes without much else to do until another Slytherin who had signed up for the game couldn't make it and knew the second year's affinity for Broom Sports (alleged) and asked if he could take his spot.
Without much hesitation at all, a grin was plastered over Ulysses Drake's face as he grabbed onto his moontrimmer from his room with Renzo and rushed off to the Outdoor Club Area and immeditaely noticed @Alyssea Brown and @Raizel Voltrouz and a deep, guttural noise rose from the pit of his stomach in annoyance at what happened the last time they were all together.
He was quick to look up to the Gryffindor and let out a quick warning. " No fucking funny business, Voltroz or it's your broom. " He already knew she wasn't as meek as their Ravenclaw friend but he figure it'd be best to let her know that he wasn't messing around.

Cass Ito was running late. This was not the first time either. Maybe they weren't late late, and they were 60% sure the race hadn't even started, but getting there last was just embarrassing. They hadn't even been up to anything awesome and interesting beforehand, just drifting through the castle like a ghost. Anywhere there was people was good enough for them. Anything, anyone, just not alone. As long as they kept moving, kept doing something, everything was ok. Why wouldn't it be? And this race, that they were currently just a teeny tiny bit late to, was going to be better than okay. They had an awesome team, consisting of Prat and someone else they didn't really know who was awesome anyway because she was on their team.
Brand shiny new silver arrow in hand, they came hurtling out of the castle towards the racers gathered. "Hi Rai!" they said, very glad to see that she hadn't started the race without them. Also just glad to see her in general. In their opinion, Rai was very cool™. Hogwarts best broom racer without a doubt, although they didn't have any logic to back up this opinion at all. On the opposing team, they spotted a familiar face, a face that might be familiar, and a face that was definitely not familiar. They waved at Alyssea and her sidekicks, not wanting to keep their own team waiting too long. There was a possibility that they might want to do something like strategise, which was kind of boring and not really necessary at all but Cass could bear it if they really wanted to.
Prat was being Prat like usual, looking far too serious for a race like this. Where was his sense of fun? Their other mystery teammate was also serious, which was far too serious for one team. Possibly even more serious than Prat. The more they thought the word serious, the weirder it sounded. "Hi Nabi" they said, sort of frowning at how much she looked like a very old and boring statue. Not to say she looked old. Just sort of dead. "Why do you look like you are made of stone and also half dead at the same time?" they asked. The best way to get to the bottom of this mystery was to ask after all. It didn't even occur to them that perhaps, just maybe, they were being a little bit rude. "Has someone died already?" they said in shock, looking around to make sure Alyssea and friends had not dropped dead while they weren't looking.
